POV Grace
I sat in my class watching a video for class but my mind was on someone else. All I could do was think about daddy who we haven't seen in almost two months. I was told that he was ok and he was trying his hardest to come home soon. Danno had talked to him about four weeks ago while I had been at school. It was taking its toll on both of us I know that Danno would never mention it but he was having nightmares as was I. I would go to bed and everything would be ok, then I would wake up to hear Danno crying. I would then start thinking about Daddy and start to cry too. But what really was upsetting was that Danno had stopped sleeping in his and Daddy's room. I didn't realize just how long I have been thinking about everything that was happening till I saw my teacher standing in front of me.
"Grace is everything ok?" Mrs. Jackson asked as I looked up to her and I realized that I was crying.
"Yeah I am fine I was just thinking about my daddy Steve he was deployed and it's been two months and I miss him very much." I said
"I know it's difficult but you have a strong support with your family. Have you tried talking to them?" Mrs. Jackson asked
"They have been very busy and well Danno gets really sad too thinking about Daddy." I said
"How about your Daddy's sister can you talk to her about it?" Mrs. Jackson asked
"Yeah I was going to today when I get home she is watching me cause Danno in on a case." I said as there was a knock on the door and both the teacher and I turned to see Aunt Mary and Jonnie in her stroller standing there.
"I was getting worried when you didn't come out." Mary said as she seen the red eyes of mine and was instantly by my side.
"Sweetie what's wrong?" Mary asked
"Tell you what I am going to the lounge you two can stay here and talk. And Grace if you need to talk you know I will always listen." Mrs. Jackson said
"Thank you Mrs. Jackson." I said as I hugged her and then she left me and Aunt Mary there.
"Ok sweetie talk to me." Mary said as I looked at her and the tears started to fall more freely as all I wanted was Daddy to come home.
"I am scared that Daddy won't be coming home. It's been two months and well both Danno and I have been having nightmares. And he's even gotten to the point to sleep in the extra room. Every time I bring up Daddy it makes Danno sad so I don't bring him up. But it make me sad that I can't talk about the good time and the things to do when he comes home. And what if the baby come before Daddy gets home. I want Daddy." I cried as Aunt Mary took me into her arms and held me tightly.
"Tell you what how about you and I get Jonnie home and feed and then I'll sit and tell you anything you what to know about your daddy as a kid." Mary said
"You would really do that." I asked
"Yeah and I'll even pull out the pictures." Mary said "And Gracie never be afraid to talk to me about anything. I am just a phone call away ok?"
"Yeah I promise, and I can't wait it sounds good." I said as we gathered up my stuff and she pushed the stroller out as I followed. I watched as she got Jonnie settled into the car and then she turned to me and got me settled. And we were soon on our way back to the house I looked over to see Jonnie was out cold. She was such a good baby and I only hoped that my new brother was going to be just as good. We turned down the street to the house as Aunt Mary's phone rang. She pulled into the drive way and parked next to daddy's truck. We both got out of the car and I grabbed my stuff and she grabbed Jonnie. We headed to the front door and she put the key in and unlocked the door.
"Hmm that's weird." Mary said
"What is wrong?" I asked as she looked at the alarm pad.
"The alarm was disabled and I was sure I set it." Mary said
"Maybe you forgot with getting Jonnie settled its ok." I said as I headed to the kitchen and started my homework while Aunt Mary feed Jonnie and got her settled for the afternoon.
"Ok kiddo you finish your homework and I'll start dinner by time it's done your dad should be home, depending on his case." Mary said
"Ok after I am finished my homework can you tell me about Daddy as a kid?" I asked
"Sure thing Sweetie." Mary said as she went into the living room to settle Jonnie. I finished my homework and gathered it all up and put in back in my bag I headed into the living room to hear Aunt Mary's phone ring as she quickly answered the phone.
"Hello…Yeah I just got home with her she is finishing her homework…are you serious…no I'll tell her… sure thing I'll have dinner waiting…No problem…" Mary said
"Is Danno ok?" I asked
"Yeah he is great. Go put your bag away and change and we'll talk." Mary said. I went to my room put my bag on the back of the chair at my desk. I then grabbed a change of clothes and headed to the bathroom and took care of business. I walked back into my room to put my dirty clothes in my hamper I then walked back down the steps as I heard Aunt Mary talking.
"Yeah I am sure he's going to need the help. I am going to call Chin and see if he can help get the other room set up…Ok I'll see you soon." Mary said as I finished my way down to find Jonnie asleep in the pack-n-play.
"Aunt Mary who were you talking too?" I asked as she turned and saw me coming around the corner.
"Come here sweetie I have something to tell you." Mary said as I walked over to the couch and joined her. She reached out and pulled me close as I started to get very worried.
"Please tell me that Daddy is ok it's not about him is?" I asked
"Of course not I promised you that I would come home." He said as both Aunt Mary and I turned and there was Daddy in his swim trunks. I couldn't hold in all my excitement I was so happy that he was home I started to cry. I felt Aunt Mary give me light shove toward Daddy as my feet then started to move. I went running to him and throw my arms around him not caring about the water. I held him as tight as I could I never wanted to let go I turned my face into his neck as my tears fell. I could feel his hands rubbing up and down my back as I hear Aunt Mary mumble to herself.
"I know I set that alarm." Mary said
"Yeah you did sis. I got home an about an hour ago I went for a quick swim. I figured when you got home that Grace and I can go surprise Danny at work." Daddy said
"You haven't heard from him?" Mary asked
"No my phone got destroyed about two weeks ago I have to go to the Palace and get a new one I called from the plane. Why?" Daddy asked
"Aunt Mary was going to tell me something before you came in she was talking to someone and mentioned calling Chin to set up the other room." Grace said
"Yeah you have great hearing." Mary said
"So Mar what's going on?" Daddy asked
"Um well I think you need to sit down both of you." Mary said
"Oh god Danno." I said
"No he's fine." Mary said
"Oh god the baby." Daddy said
"Um somewhat, listen to me your son is fine. Danny got called in on a case and it led him to the hospital to talk to one of the victims' boss. While there he ran into Cath's OBGYN and she came in that morning showing signs of early labor. They hooked her up to find out that your son is a true jokester." Mary said
"What are you talking about?" Daddy asked
"Well it seems that last week the doctor thought she heard an echo. Well it seems your son brought a surprise he has a twin." Mary said
"What?" Daddy asked as I couldn't believe it not only one baby but two. How was daddy and Danno going to have time for me now? I was ok with one baby but now there was two. I felt upset and unwanted. I ran from the room not caring that both Aunt Mary and Daddy were yelling for me. I ran to my room and shut the door and throw myself on to my bed and started to cry. I had just gotten over mom and Stan treating me the way they did with Charlie and now that Danno and Daddy finally got married. I was ok with the fact that Daddy was having a baby that he was going to raise with Danno. But now that they have two babies they would ignore me to pay them attention. I heard a knock on my door and then I heard daddy's voice.
"Gracie sweetheart can I please come in?" Daddy asked and I could hear it in his voice that he was crying.
I guess." I said as I continued to cry into my pillow. I heard the door creek open and then I felt the dip of the bed as Daddy sat on the bed. I then felt his hand on my back rubbing small circles.
"Sweetheart please talk to me. What's wrong?" Daddy asked as I couldn't tell him what was wrong I was ok with having a brother around but now that changed and there was two.
"I don't want to be forgotten." I said as I felt Daddy pulled me into his arms and just hug me so tightly.
"Why would you be forgotten?" Daddy asked
"Cause with one baby around I wouldn't be ignored but now that there are two there is never going to be time for me. You and Danno will be so focused on them that I'll be forgotten." I cried as he lifted my chin and used his thumbs to wipe away my tears.
"Grace Amya McGarrett-Williams you get that thought out of your head right now. You are and will always be just as important to me no matter what. You are what brought me and Danno together and these two babies will be will bind us all as a family. I will never love them more then you. Sweetheart I love you and I could never ignore you ever and neither could Danno. And as for the babies I know that Danno is great with babies I mean look how well you turned out. I am going to need as much help as I can get and I am going to need you to be the best big sister ever." Daddy said
"I love you too I just don't want to feel like I did when Mommy had Charlie. It was like her and Step-Stan paid more attention to Charlie and ignored me. I don't want to lose you or Danno, I'm sorry I am being a brat." I cried as Daddy hugged me again and kissed my head.
"Sweetheart I promise anytime you are feeling left out just say Kai and I promise, you and I will do just that." Daddy said
"That mean's Ocean right?" I asked
"Yep any time you say that you and I will go spend time in the ocean. I promise you Grace you will never be ignored. You got that?" Daddy asked
"Yeah I got it." I said as he picked me up and carried me down to find that Aunt Mary was gone.
"Now how about you and I head to the hospital to see Danno and together we can meet your brother and Sister." Daddy said as I smiled the other baby was a girl I wasn't going to be the only on.
"A sister I thought I was going to be the only girl. What's her name?" I asked
"I don't know Danno picked it out, we only had Erik's named picked out. So what do you say?" Daddy asked
"Let's go does Danno know we are coming?" I asked as Daddy grabbed his keys and set the alarm and he carried me out to the truck. I crawled to the back seat and buckled myself in and Daddy pulled out of the drive. The whole way to the hospital I told him about things he missed. I then started to get tired and wanted to fall asleep when I heard Daddy say something.
"Sweetheart are you ok you look awful tired." Daddy said
"I know I haven't been sleeping right." I said as Daddy stopped at the light and turned to look at me.
"Sweetheart talk to me?" Daddy asked as I looked down and wanted to cry knowing that I was going to disappoint him.
"I was having nightmares about you not coming home. I would wake up and then cry myself back to sleep." I said
"Aww Sweetheart I am so sorry that I was the cause of you not sleeping. I hope that now that I am home you get more sleep." Daddy said as I know that I would sleep better as would Danno.
"And Danno will sleep better too." I said as I just gave it away the Danno wasn't sleeping either.
"What so you mean Danno wasn't sleeping either?" Daddy asked
"No he was having nightmares too and he would start out in your room only to end up in the spare. Please don't tell Danno that I told you." I said
"I won't I promise." Daddy said as we pulled up to the hospital. Daddy parked and he carried me the whole time. It made me feel loved and it was just what I needed to feel safe in Daddy's arms. We made a stop at the gift shop and got balloons and teddy bears for the babies. As we got on the elevator and Daddy pushed the number 4 button as the doors closed. After a few minutes the door opened a there stood a woman in a white jacket.
"Commander McGarrett I was told you were deployed?" She said
"I was I got home about three hours ago, Danny doesn't know yet." Daddy said
"Can we surprise Danno?" I asked
"You sure can. Your Daddy said he was going to bring you back to meet your brother and sister. So why don't you two go to room 428 and relax the nurse and Danny will bring the babies in shortly they are giving them there first bath. And Commander Congratulations." She said as she got on the elevator and was gone. Daddy walked down the hall and we found room 428.
"McGarrett- Williams Babies." I said as Daddy smiled as he pushed open the door and there sitting in the recliner was Miss Catharine.
"Steve what are you doing here? When did you get back?" She asked
"About three hours ago. I haven't talked to Danny yet I lost my phone. I have a replacement waiting at the Palace. But Mary did tell me that Erik brought a surprise with him." Daddy said
"Yeah he sure did wait till you see her is so cute. So Grace how do you feel now that your brother and Sister are here?" Cath asked
"Um ok. I was a little scared but Daddy straightened me out." I said as the door opened and in walked a nurse pushing a bassinet with a baby in it wrapped in blue. Then another nurse came in with the other baby wrapped in pink.
"Hey Cath if you are ok I am…Steven." Danno said as Daddy put me down and opened his arms in which Danno ran into. I stood next to Miss Cath and watched as Daddy and Danno hugged. Daddy pulled back and planted a kiss to Danno's lips. Miss Cath took my hand and guided me over to where the two babies were.
"So Gracie this here is your little brother Erik Caiden McGarrett-Williams he was born first at 12:45" Cath said
"He's cute he has your eyes." I said as Miss Cath smiled when Daddy was right behind me and picked me up. Danno kissed my cheek as he wrapped his arm around Daddy and me. Miss Catharine picked up Erik and handed him to Daddy as Danno took me in to his arms.
"So what do you think Monkey?" Danno asked
"He's cute. He has Miss Catharine's eyes and Daddy's ears and nose." Grace said
"That he does." Danno said as he put me down and walked over to pick up the other baby.
"And this little angel is beautiful." Cath said
"What's her name Danno?" I asked
"Well this lucky lady who has the best big sister to look after her. I wasn't sure what to name her but an idea came to me. Elizabeth Catharine McGarrett-Williams, Elizabeth after both our mom's and Catharine after the woman who gave us these gifts." Danno said
"It's perfect Danno I love it. And I love you my Pilikua." Daddy said as I saw the look on Miss Catharine's face.
"No way you two didn't. Ohh everyone's going to be so pissed." Cath said
"No one know but Grace and the Governor." Daddy said
"Um mom knows." Danno said
"How does Nona know?" I asked as Daddy sat down and pulled me next to him as he let me hold Erik.
"She called me wanting to know why she hasn't heard from us about the wedding. When I said that you were still deployed she took that something in my voice was wrong. She then asked if we were going to end it so I had to tell her." Danno said
"It's ok Danno. But now that I am home and the twins are here we can plan the wedding we both want." Daddy said as there was a knock at the door. We all turned to see who was walking in the door only to find the rest of our Ohana.
"Hey what is this?" Kono asked as Chin, Aunt Mary, Max, Kamekona and Uncle's Chin's friends Jerry.
"This is a great surprise that Erik brought with him. One we are happy with." Danno said
"No Brah I was talking about boss man being home." Kono said
"Daddy surprised Aunt Mary and I at home after school." I said
"What a wonderful surprise." Aunt Mary said holding Joanie in her arms as she slept.
"Well I aim to please." Daddy said as he held Erik and Danno had Elizabeth. I stood next to Miss Catharine with a smile on my face.
"How about you Grace how are you handling it?" Chin said as everyone looked over to me.
"When Aunt Mary first told me about Erik having a twin I was upset and acted like a jealous brat. But after talking to Daddy about how I felt I knew that it would be ok. And after seeing them both I can't wait to take them home I am going to be the best big sister I can be." I said as Danno handed Elizabeth off to Cath and he pulled me into a hug holding me tight.
"Monkey I promise that Daddy and I will never ignore you all you have to do is tell us and we will make time." Danno said
"I know Daddy said the same thing we even have a secret word. And later if you want you and I can come up with one." I said
"I would love nothing more than to do that. I love you Grace Amya so much." Danno said
"I know and I love you to Dad." Grace said
"Aww so touching it really is but can we be introduced to the babies I mean we know the names but nothing else." Max said
"Sorry guys. But I am going to have to hand that off to Danny." Daddy said as Danno walked over to Daddy and brushed his finger across Erik's cheek.
"Well this little guy was born first this is Erik Caiden McGarrett-Williams he was 6lb 12 and he is 18 inches long." Danno said
"It's perfect it really fit him." Chin said as Danno walked over to Cath who gave her up to Danno.
"Then about ten minutes later this pretty little girl Elizabeth Catharine McGarrett-Williams was born she was 6lb14oz and 17 ½ inches long." Danno said
"Danny it's a beautiful name and I couldn't have picked a better name after both our mom's and Cath its perfect." Daddy said as he stood next to Danno holding the babies. I took out my cell phone and took a picture of the two of them with the babies.
"Here kiddo go get in there with your dad's and siblings and I'll take the pic." Jerry said as he took my phone and I went to stand by my dad's. Daddy sat on the chair and pulled me into his lap and then Danno came over and placed Elizabeth into my arms as he sat on the arm of the chair and wrapped his arm around Daddy and Erik.
"Smile." Jerry said as I smiled as I looked down to my sister who I held in my arms. This was what I have always wanted Ohana who loved and lived for one another. Danno and Daddy were the best to me and were going to be the best dad's to these two amazing babies. Aunt Mary and Joanie got into the next picture as Cath took the last with our whole Ohana.
