Chapter 8

"What?" The tone was steely, almost deadly and hissed with a glint of ominous presence within the luminous gaze. Sesshomaru looked cold and uninviting, almost as he had before the circumstances that had changed their relationship to the one they shared now.

Kagome lowered her gaze to her hands, folded into her lap and not daring to look up at him. She didn't say anything and felt the slow curdling feeling bubble in her stomach as she felt the disappointment oozing in the atmosphere. If he had yelled, she might have felt better, but Sesshomaru was not that type of man and his single utterance and the silence that rang were painful to endure.

She felt as if his words echoed around them in the aftermath; she really wished he had yelled it instead.

It might have made her feel better. Just a little tiny bit. Still she sat there, eyes on her hands. Her fingers twitched nervously against each other. She could feel his gaze on her; steady and unwavering. Closing her eyes she wished he would look somewhere else. Anywhere than at her, she wasn't ready to look up and see the total disappointment that was lingering in his eyes.

To make matters worse, Inuyasha was standing by his brother's side. Stealing a glance to look in his direction, Kagome noted the tremble in his hands. He was furious, at her, at Kuronue; at himself. He didn't need to say the words, his body language was all that she needed to go by.

"I almost.." she started, her voice small, so meek; far from her normal solid sounding tone," I almost purified Lord Kuronue..."

"What in the hell were you thinking Kagome?!" The loud boisterous cry of Inuyasha's voice echoed around her. It was at that point in time that she came to this conclusion; she preferred Sesshomaru's deadly quiet tone of voice.

"I'm sorry."

The rustle of fabrics caught her attention. Slowly she would raise her head up, watching as Sesshomaru moved from the desk. He had walked over towards the balcony, his back facing her. A hand moved up to rest on the frame. His nails, tapped along the wooden surface. Each tap sounded hollow, precise, calculating. She couldn't stop the thoughts running through her mind, she was unsure as to what he was planning.

"Sorry doesn't begin to cover the damage that has been caused."

Each word he spoke was sharp as a knife, cold as ice. Cutting out pieces of her heart, while at the same time, making the blood run cold in her veins. A shiver tore through her body, guilt started to eat at her.

"I should be able to help in some way..."

"For now," he started," you should have dinner in your room tonight. I think it's best given the situation. You've done enough for today. The children can join you."

He turned to look at her, his gaze piercing and her breath hitched in her throat. It felt like a hand had burrowed its way inside her chest and started to squeeze. Taking slow and steady breaths, she stood with her head hanging low; her locks cascading to a curtain around her. Hiding the unshed tears she refused to fall, not until she was out of sight.

"Of course Sesshomaru."

Turning her body, she took tedious steps towards the door. Wanting to run, wanting to get away from the room; away from the disappointment that she had caused. Dainty hands reached for the sliding door, pulling it open just so she could get her small frame through before closing it fully behind her.

The hallway was silent, it was here that she nearly broke down, a few tears broke through the damn, sliding down her cheeks. Quickly brushing them aside, she continued on. Not noticing how the occupants of the castle moved out of her way as she passed them by.

Sunlight filtered into the room, the area basking in the glow of the setting sun making it seem tranquil, the atmosphere told a different story. The three occupants were quiet, thinking over the day's events. One wore a look of indifference, one looked like a cat who ate the canary, and the other, well he looked livid.

Yomi leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. Eyes glancing over the two who were currently locked into a staring contest of sorts. A light chuckle filled the room.

"Kuronue was able to see the woman naked before you, Yoko? My my," a grin appeared on his face, eyes glancing over to Kuronue," tell me, were her breast as plump as they look?"

The fox turned his head in time to see his highest ranking general holding his hands out, a woman's height and making squeezing motions. As if he were groping a set of breast. The male's eyes held a look of glee, looking at nothing but down at his hands.

A sharp laugh left Kuronue, finding the situation hilarious," They were plump, perky even."

A snicker left Yomi, lowering his hands and placed them back across his chest. Low chuckles erupted from Kuronue once more. Yoko narrowed his eyes at them both. Turning towards the bat demon, he grabbed his arm. Nails sinking into the flesh that had been burned by the little priestess.

Kuronue let out a scream, hand reaching for his burned arm. Yoko tore his nails away as he stood, knocking back the chair he had been sitting in. Kuronue sat up in bed, lifting the injured appendage to his chest, cradling it close. The marks Yoko had made with his nails were slowly starting to heal. Snarling, he glanced up at the fox.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!"

Yoko stood away from the bed, not saying a word to either one of them. His eyes narrowed as he continued to look between them both. The edges of his iris's tainted red, closing his eyes he took several deep breaths. Nails digging into the palms of his hands.

" While you're both are having a laugh," he started, his voice even and cold," you seem to be missing something. Kuronue could have started a new war with Sesshomaru . Just by the fact that he 'accidentally' flew down and thought they were being attacked."

Kuronue averted his gaze to a nearby wall. Yomi said nothing, the mirth bleeding from his form as Yoko's words lingered in the air. The third in command opened his mouth, but shut it again. Just by looking at his lord and friend, Yomi could tell that there was nothing could be said in such a situation and any arguments were unwanted.

"A few soldiers arrived while the incident took place." Yomi decided, after a lengthy pause, to say. He waved his hand in a motion as if to say he wouldn't mention what happened, "If you like, we could go down to the training grounds, spar with a few until dinner is called?"

It was clear that Yoko needed a distraction. What better way to distract him than sparring while under the guise of checking on his men's progress? Usually it worked, Yomi had often used the tactic from previous experiences. The end result always turned out favorable for all involved: a calm Lord and a far more peaceful atmosphere. If the usual ruse didn't work, then someone died - Yoko would still end up soothed either way.

Bloodshed was the 'cure-all' for demons. Tried and true - if you feel otherwise, you need to do more killing.

Ears twitching atop his head, casting a quick glance over to the bed before moving out of the room. Yomi smiled moving after his Lord, his friend, before leaving he turned towards Kuronue. Giving a quick wink then ran off.

Kuronue groaned, falling back onto the bed. Glancing to his arm, wincing as pain shot up through the limb. The appendage looked as if someone had peeled back every square inch of skin, leaving only the muscle exposed to the elements. He was told it would take twenty-four hours for it to heal completely. Along with a salve, according to the Physician, would aid in the healing process. For now he was to rest, not to move around too much, though adding to his new injury may take a while longer.

Due to the incident before, the tension at dinner - there were political implications that could not be ignored. Thus, when his counsel requested a meeting, he was not surprised. He expected it even, just had hoped to put it off till much later. An action that was not wise, however. With a slight grimace forming at the corner of his lip, he readied himself for what was to come, knowing that the meeting was going to spiral rapidly. He wished not to discuss Kagome, her position in his court or the predicament she was in.

Still, he could not delay this any further without the issue growing out of hand.

Once the door to the Council room was open, a spew of voices greeted him. Glancing to his younger brother, followed by a nod of the head they moved in. At once the talking ceased, every gaze zeroing in on the brothers. Both brothers moved with deliberation, slowly making way towards the head of the table. By right as the Lord, Sesshomaru sat there, a position of authority. Inuyasha took a position to his right, claiming position as second in command and the right hand of his brother.

Auric hues glanced about the table, cool and unreadable. Sesshomaru was paying rapt attention to those in attendance, able to recall every face that surrounded him - the same faces that had served his own father. They were old demons, one had even served on the council for his grandfather. When his gaze landed on each member, they bowed their head in show of respect to the brothers. Sesshomaru was their lord by right, Inuyasha had earned his place of respect due to him defeating Naraku, the demon pest. Before they would not have accepted the hanyou, but since proving himself as the son of their father they would not turn the half-human brother away.

At first, no one spoke. It was as if the counselors were unsure of how to approach the subject, but was more likely they were working on forming the right arguments for their respective cause. Minutes passed, each shifting under the hard gaze of their Lord until finally someone spoke out.

"Mi'Lord," a raspy, weathered voice broke through the silence," We have called this meeting to discuss, not only the events that have transpired today, but as well as the rumors that are being spread through your household."

The one who had spoken was the eldest there, a lizard demon. His eyebrows were grey and bushy, with wrinkles adorning his skin; the most visible were those around his mouth from a millennia of smiling and laughing, his eyes were still bright, full of vigor. He just didn't age well, lizards were unlucky in that department, but they also lived long lives.

"I'm well aware of the events that transpired today, Michi," Sesshomaru intoned, sounding no more inflicted, despite his earlier tensions, than if a fly merely landed in his water. To further the picture of boredom, he inspected his nails as if they were more interesting than the discussion being presented," As for the rumors, I assure you that they are more than likely just that, rumors that the staff spread for their own entertainment."

"The rumors being spread, is more than idle gossip that is being spread by the staff ," All eyes landed on the owner of the voice his head raised high, blue hair pulled back in a high ponytail, he was in fact the youngest of them, yet two-hundred years older than Sesshomaru. His bearing and tone certainly screamed condescending.

Inuyasha looked over to his brother, before looking back to the blue hair male. The youngest said nothing as he felt a gaze cast in his direction. Instead he let out a soft hum, arms crossed over his chest, at the present time, it was best if he didn't say a word.

"Incident aside mi'lord," a different voice intercepted, a sigh escaping him as he brought a hand up to rub his temple. The demon who now spoke, was a demon covered in fur of red, contrasting well with the emerald hues he used to catch the molten gaze of his lord," Is it true that you moved Lady Kagome to the family wing of the house in order to stop a courtship?"

"It wasn't to stop a courtship," Inuyasha interjected then, tension showing in his muscles," It was a move as to stop them from trying."

Sesshomaru had remained quiet throughout the accusations, able to hear words his brother was not yet learned in. Raised to be a lord, a political figure and diplomat, he could read between the lines. Shaking his head, he felt it best to just get straight to the point," Katsuo, do me a favor and get to the point."

It was not question. It was an order.

Emerald eyes glanced over to the others before looking back," We believe it was a ploy to try and take over the western territories from you."

Silence followed such a proclamation, gaining the attention of the other demons besides those whom had already spoken their peace. Michi, Katsuo and the unnamed advisor's attention were on the brothers, as if trying to gauge the dog demons' thoughts.

Laughter broke the silence, coming from Sesshomaru's right. Indeed, Inuyasha's hand fell onto the table with an audible smack. Inuyasha's amusement was not shared with three out of the five occupants, growling in discontent at Inuyasha's reaction.

"Eh, I'm not sorry," Inuyasha stated, leaning back in his chair after pitching forward in his bout of mirth," they are not planning on taking Sesshomaru's land through Kagome.."

"Oh? What makes you so sure," the blue haired demon growled out. Hand resting on the table as his body moved to lean forward, looking as though he was ready to pounce at the brother.

"Because, Mikage," the steel tone of the lord sliced through the argument he could feel starting to brew," neither one knew that she was going to be here." Gaze narrowing,"What is your proof, otherwise?"

Sesshomaru let the question hang in the air.

The advisors remained silent. Each one looking at each other. Proof? The Lord wanted proof, they had it. Michi let out a long sigh, swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat. It seemed that he would have to be the one to give the information. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the two youngest advisors. He maybe old, but that did not mean that he would be excluded from their Lord's wrath. While he may not be killed outright, he would more than likely have to pay for withholding such important information.

"It would seem Mi'Lord," Michi started, grey eyes looking over to Dai-youkai," That Lord Yoko sent a few scouts out three days prior to him arriving here, it is possible they were meeting with a correspondence, a spy of sorts that had been planted in your home ."

The words were spoken quickly. The old lizard pushed his back into the chair, gaze never leaving Sesshomaru. Inuyasha straightened in his chair. Concern forming in his eyes, his claws scraping against the wood feeling splinters of the oak pressing under his skin. Slowly he would turn his head towards his brother.

Emotion did not show in his gaze, out ward he looked on at his advisors with indifference. Inside he was livid. Had he known that there were scouts in the area, then he would have spoken with Yoko alone. Even the thought of a potential spy within his own home caused his blood to boil. The use of scouts were not as uncommon as they seemed. As long as the group was small, as well as managing to stay far from where his land began. They had been on edge since the war with Naraku, when Yoko was gone and his own general had taken over. It was unclear to him at the time, though after he had found out, he let it slide. Those years with Naraku had pitted many against each other, more so than at any other time.

"You waited to tell me this information," Sesshomaru's tone was even, almost sounding bored," It seems to me that you waited for this type of rumor to start before you came to me with this information."

"An unfortunate misunderstanding on our part Mi'lord."

"Well did you at least watch and see what they were up too?" Inuyasha's voice filled the suddenly silent room. If scounts were sent in, it was still possible they meant to spy and gather information.

"Ahhh," Katsu started, a slight laugh leaving him," You see my young Lord, we did observe them from afar. The scouts wouldn't come any closer than they had too. It seem to me they were checking the layout of the land."

"So you let them go?"

The small statement started to escalate between Mikage and the youngest son. Words were being thrown across the table like daggers. Both ready to pounce and attack the other if need be. One stating that the capture of such scouts would increase the chance of them knowing about their arrival, that and the possible chance of a war brewing between both Lords. Such a statement only made Inuyasha laugh. While he was not brought up in his father's court, he did know that this meant only one thing. They had no reason but to even to believe the ludicrous statement. They knew nothing, and that was what scared the advisors more than knowing what was being planned. They had to be on guard, but to make such an accusation, even when no harm was being done at the current moment was not the best strategic move. Even one of his upbringing knew, it was seen as a threat, but it was not acted upon.

"You halfbreed!"

"Troll breath!"

"Charity case!"

Sesshomaru's eye started to tick. It reminded him of the daily antics between Rin and Jaken. Childish. His advisor had two hundred years on his brother, he wondered why the demon had decided to start this small round of name calling into the main focus of the argument. Shaking his head inwardly, Sesshomaru brought his hand down onto the table. A loud bang echoed around the room, causing all occupants to become silent.

Sesshomaru was not the type of male who would put on such a show as pounding his fist on the table. No, that was not his way. Most times he would glare, his voice was enough to silence even the eldest of demons. So for him to act out in such a way caused the others to look at him in disbelief. Auric hues glance over them, each person leaned back in their respective chair as his gaze lingered over them for a moment. Minutes had passed, it seemed that within this time, all had calmed down.

"Katsu, tell me how far out were the scouts?"

"Roughly a hundred feet Mi'lord, the party consisted of 3 scouts," emerald hues casted a glance over to Mikage. Mouth set in a firm line," It was one reason for not telling you this information. With there being just three to the group, and they were only here for one day. It seemed to take the back burner as we prepared for the celebration."

"Not enough to cause concern or to raise suspicion," Eyes moved over to Mikage a smirk playing on the edges of his lips. It was cold, points of fangs showing," It seems you do not have the sufficient proof you need to make such accusations. I would appreciate that in the near future, should this happen again, it to be reported to me immediately. We just got out of the war with Naraku, I'm not in the mood to be jumping into another. At least one with such half cocked information."

Mikage fumed, glancing away from the Daiyoukai, knowing that he was correct. The information should not have been held from him. Turning his head back, he glanced over to Inuyasha. Mouth set in a grim line, as the young demon sat there, arms crossed over his chest. Eyes sparkling with mirth, almost child-like. In a way reminded him of a child that had gotten his way. The elder demon had to hold back a growl that threatened to leave him.

Inuyasha waited a beat before adding on, "Besides, Sesshomaru already gave them permission to court Kagome..."

As that small sentence left Inuyasha's mouth, smirking at Mikage, all three started to talk at once. Sesshomaru turned a death glare to his brother, whom only shrugged in response. How was he to know that such a small statement would set them off? Of course, they knew of the rumors surrounding the courting, though small as it was at the moment. Now it was a different matter. Now with permission from their Lord, it was possible that all their accusations were in fact truthful, at least in their mind's eye.

Sesshomaru raised a hand, accompanied with a sharp glance. The others became quiet, not wanting to feel the building wrath of their lord. Slowly, one at a time, they would speak.

"That is a preposterous statement!"

"Mi'lord, surely you did not agree to the courting?"

"For them to even be interested in her, who is to say they won't try to use her power to benefit them in the end?"

Sesshomaru brought his hand down on the table, ominously quiet and methodical. He made a show of tapping the tips of his claws on the table, drawing out the moment as he settled an unmoved look on the three. Briefly he closed his eyes, turning his head away to fight the annoyance building in his being at such questioning. When he opened his eyes, flicking his glance to the three, he made sure his intent was clear – displeased and in no mood for their arrogance on the matter.

"You dare to question me?" His tone was sharp, disdain coating his words as his whole countenance dared them to challenge him.

Sesshomaru was rewarded with silence. None of the three advisors that spoke out were unmoved by his display. They each looked away, squirming under the harsh gaze of the Lord of the West. It was as if they realized they had overstepped their bounds, undermining their Lord with their objections to what he had, clearly, sanctioned. Shaking their heads, they answered their lord, knowing he was waiting for their answer, but did not dare look him in the eye.

"For now, their courting continues. No one is to interrupt them during this time. She will pick one," Sesshomaru moved to stand, walking around the table with his eyes scanning over the faces that peered back at him.

"This courtship could prove useful to not only the West, but to the East as well. Yoko's land is near the ocean. There his people have access to the black ore that is found in the seabed. Not only do they have fishing, they have whaling. The oil from the whales can aid in the oil for lamps. The West could use the sea to trade the spider silk to the continent. Another trade route for us, with the knowledge that our ships will be safe in his port. Lets not forget about the iron mines that we have on our own lands,"Walking behind Mikage, he could feel the demon shift, unsteady and unsure in his seat. Sesshomaru lifted his head up as he continued to speak once more," Should we also forget the military assistance? Yoko's army is tough, at times, far more brutal than my own. They help us and we help them. Stronger trade routes, as well as a stronger ally they will have with us. We could become unstoppable."

Did he mean any of the words he said? Of course he did. His words, his manner and acceptance of the match would keep the advisors busy for the moment and allow him and Inuyasha time to speak to Kagome. It would be the brothers' duty to inform the girl that she was being courted, to accept that fact and pick one, hopefully.

Satisfied, for the time being, Sesshomaru projected his path toward the door, just stopping before it. He was pleased to see that Inuyasha had stood and was at his side, as it helped to create the picture of a united conjecture on the matter. With a final look, a glare from Inuyasha and an cold look from Sesshomaru, both brothers moved as one into the darken corridor, moving away from the room quickly.

Once far enough away, Inuyasha spoke in a low, hushed tone, "What now?"

"We go to Kagome. It is not wise to play the game of 'wait and see.' She needs to understand the repercussions of today's events. We also need to go more in depth with what is now expected of her."

"She is not going to like this," Inuyasha started. Causing his brother to glare at him. A sigh left the young demon as he crossed his arms placing both hands inside the sleeves of his haori,"I hate to say it, but I agree with you. Kagome has been here for years. She ain't a little girl anymore."

As the words left Inuyasha, he stood there, an air of silence and nostalgia surrounded him. His mind going back to when he first met the young miko, became her friend, and then fell in love with it took many years for him to realize that the love he felt for her was not that of a lover, but that of a brother. It had hurt him, at first, to know the girl had fallen in love with him as well. It had taken them years to find out the truth. When The girl had first made the admission about how she felt, the young half demon felt both saddened, yet relieved at the same time. It was hard for him, though he agreed. In the end it seemed as if his heart would never know the real outcome of real love.

The clearing of a throat brought him out of his reverie. Glancing up, he saw his brother looking at him. A slight frown showing. If this had been any other moment, Inuyasha would have made a joke about how his brother seemed to be showing more emotions now than any other time. Jerking his head, the elder brother turned to walk away, causing the younger to follow in his wake.

Xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Dinner in her room had been uneventful. The children rarely said a word, most likely still stunned from that afternoon. Kagome tried to make the children feel more at ease, trying to joke and play a few games while they ate. They were not having it. Even though there weren't any words spoken to them, they knew of the trouble brewing around them. Though for their young age, it wasn't too hard to understand, especially when the adults were having conversations then they would walk in only to be greeted by silence.

Both children were use to battles, were use to the gore that came along with it. When they saw the flesh of Kuronue's arm, it wasn't a big deal to them. They had seen far worse in the short amount of time that they had been traveling around Japan with their respective travel companions. They watched as Kagome had tried to pull her purification powers back in towards her, her powers had other plans it had seem. The young miko had managed to control where her powers were moving towards. She had manage to push the bright pink power to the side. Causing the energy to hit the male's arm. A full on blast would have, probably, turned the elder demon to dust. They could remember clearly how the whole entire area had lit up in the bright pink of the miko's energy. The look of fear that had crossed Kagome's face and the look of pure pain that flashed in the bat demon's features before he would howl in pain. The children remembered how Kagome quickly got them dressed, they knew the guards were on their way. The whole event was, for lack of a better word, scary.

Everything seemed to happen in a blur of action. Yoko came, taking his friend aside, assessing his wounds. Applying some sort of medicinal herb to aid in the healing of the flesh. Sesshomaru came too, quickly to collect the children and his pack sister. Inuyasha was trying his best not kill the bat that came so close to Kagome.

Once the commotion had died down. The orders were rolled out for her. Go to her room, eat with the children for dinner and she was to stay in her room. At first Kagome had every intention of following the orders that were laid out by her Alpha. She knew some of the dynamics of being in a pack. Even if she didn't agree with the rules that were laid down by Sesshomaru, her modern way of thinking told her to buck at his commands. She was not some piece of property to be told what to do or when to do it. Once more her mind went back to the dynamics, she would have to follow his rules. It was when the children had left, leaving her to her own thoughts and worries, she had started to find it harder to stay in her room. In short, she was becoming antsy.

Looking down at her clothes, noting the plain cotton kimono she wore. It was thin, light powder blue. A light pink obi kept it in place. The perfect clothing to go out for a small midnight walk. As long as she did not draw attention to herself, or cause any-additional- problems, she should be good to go. At least that was her way of thinking. Standing up from the pillows that were scattered on the floor, she ran her hands over the soft material, straightening any wrinkles out. No, she wasn't expecting to run into any of the others, just a habit she had acquired over the years of having to straighten her school clothes. That's what she told herself, it had nothing at all with the tension that had been lingering since Sesshomaru's talk with her earlier.

Making her way to the door, Kagome stuck her head out, looking into the silent corridor. No sounds reached her ears, but that might not mean much with human hearing, it was silent. A small smile found its way to her lips as she slipped out the door. Sliding the door close, as silently as she could, her feet padded lighting against the polished, hard wood floor.

Unsure where her two demon brothers were currently located, once more the thought of getting in trouble creeped into her mind though she quickly pushed it away, Kagome breathed silently and cast the thought of where the two might be from her mind. Clutching her shoes tightly in her hands reminded that she was sneaking out for a breather, the thought of going for a walk squashed any other thoughts from entering her mind, and she hurried as silently as she could.

Sneaking around the mansion was not an easy task. The increased presence of guards should have worried her. They could have, at any moment, taken her back to her room, or worse back to Sesshomaru. It was with those thoughts in mind, that she would wait and watch for their movements. Hiding in the dark spaces, finding her way around them. Finding a small passage that Rin had shown her, not too far from the main hallway in the family quarters, in case a quick escape was needed. She needed to thank that child, it had led her to another hall. It became familiar to her, noticing that it led to the back porch. Peering out into the hall, noting the lone guard that turned and went around a corner. Waiting on bated breath, not daring to move until she was sure he was gone, did she make her move. Quickly, she open the sliding door, greeted with the smells that could only describe the night.

Lowering herself to the edge of the porch, slipping her shoes on. Casting a glance over her shoulder, giving one last look. Swearing she heard footsteps coming from somewhere behind her. A frown marred her features, she had made it this far, there was no way she was going to back down now. Feet moved along the grass, inching farther away, until she was sure that she could not be seen.

Inwardly, she thought on the fact as to why she bothered to come in the first place. Yes, both Inuyasha and her were basically ordered to attend the celebration, but she could have declined. She could have stated that she was needed at home, that her family needed her for a family emergency. If she had sent word to Sesshomaru, this disaster could have been avoided, even though she would have felt bad about lying she would have been saved from whatever this situation was. A heavy sigh escaped her. Long and drawn out with wariness. She shouldn't dwell on such thoughts as no one could have known that things would turn out the way they did, unless one had the ability to look into the future, and it was no use trying to turn back time. A smirk formed on her lips, the thought of having that ability would make life so much easier. Kagome couldn't help but think of all the trouble she could eventually avoid.

A sudden surge of demonic energy caused her to stop cold, goosebumps forming over her flesh. Subconsciously, a hand moved to her arm as she started to rub at her skin. A lump formed in her throat, eyes moving to a clearing not too far out from the gardens. Her own power danced under her skin. It took all that she had to push the energy down, she fought for control, and for now she had won. Her curiosity started to build up in her chest. The energy she felt was calling out to her, sending whispers along her skin. It felt as though it was beckoning her to come and search for the owner.

Immediately, she knew that the power did not belong to Sesshomaru. His power felt contained, almost as if he was hiding how strong he really was. No, this energy felt wild like a jungle, yet in sync with the user. Tentatively, she cast a longing glance to garden before moving forward, feet trudging forward on their own accord. She wanted, no needed, to see whose power danced across her skin, to see what was causing her power to want to reach out for it. It almost reminded her of the Shikon Jewel shards. How every time the group came across one shard, it would call out to her. Wanting her to cleanse it, to make it pure once more. Although this power wasn't calling out to be cleansed, it was calling out for a whole different reason. Her breath hitched in her throat. The wind brushed against her face. The light of the moon lighting her way. Bringing her to where she knew, to what she felt was ominous in origin. She felt like Pandora opening the box that she was told not to open, for fear of what would come out. Yet, the young woman couldn't help but go closer.

The clashing of blades were the first sounds she heard. Metal upon metal, meeting each other in strong clangs, reverberating in her ears and hitting her ear drums with such force, she could have sworn they would burst. She swore that the sound made her body shake. It seemed as though, those who were in the clash, were fighting with such vigor, as if they were trying to rid themselves of pent up aggression. Her brows knitted in confusion. Who was out, especially this time of night?

Rounding a tree, she came face to face with what, or who was pulling her in this direction. Silver hair danced in the moonlight. The sword gleamed with the light shining from above. His movements were sharp and precise as he defended and then attacked his opponent. Kagome watched as Yoko jumped back from whom he was fighting. A sinister smirk slowly appeared on his lips, studied as his body seemed to float in the air, before landing a few feet back. Quickly she looked to his opponent. The male demon was smaller in stature compared to Yoko, slimmer in build. Given the size of the smaller demon, it was quick to note that he was powerful, just not on the same level as the Lord with whom he was fighting.

Eyes scanned the smaller demon's face, then shifted as his body stiffened, his hands clamping down on the sword. The male gritted his teeth as he waited for the moment to strike. A yell broke through the quiet night. The smaller demon started to run at full speed. A blur to her human eyes. Quickly, casting a glance to the sky there she spotted the smaller demon. The brown hair demon had jumped high, causing the male to be slightly above Yoko. This movement did not seem to cause Yoko to worry, instead the Lord held out his hand.

The movement confused her first, then she saw why. The attacked seemed to move in slow motion. Creeping vines traced their way around his arm before reaching his fingertips. There they shot out, multiple, sharp as razor blades, went towards the other demon. Fear shot through the man, displayed for Kagome to see. He tried to stop, tried to move. It was too late. The vines entered through his chest. Blood shot out of his mouth, causing a gurgling sound. The male's eyes started to bulge out. She watched as the blood crawled down the vines, inching closer to the fox's fingers. The man convulsed in the death grip of the deadly vines, almost as if they were shocking him, but Kagome doubted that was the true case - it was just what it looked like.

The sword came crashing down to the ground, the blood started to pool under the demon's body. She watched the way as it made its way to Yoko's feet. The body was thrown to the ground as the vines began to recede back down on Yoko's arm. This movement caused thin lines of blood to run along his flesh, turning his skin into a canvas of blood - the other demon's blood. At a leisurely pace he brought his hand to his lips, licking at the substance. His gaze lingered on the body for a moment before turning to walk away, dismissive and cold - like the look in his eyes. Unfeeling of the life he had taken.

Kagome, unbidden, let out a small gasp, covering her mouth hastily, but it was too late. Observing the way his ears twitched, she knew she had caught his attention. She swallowed as he turned towards her direction, eyes wide before turning into slits that promised pain and suffering.

There leaning near the tree, was the cause of the catastrophe earlier today. The young woman raised a hand to her chest, clutching at the powder blue fabric. Her hair was down, curling slightly at the ends. Her skin paler in the moonlight. Had she been standing there the entire time? A smirk formed on his lips as he made his way towards her. Watching her movements with a predator's gaze.

Her heart was pounding within her chest, the fear that left her in waves sent a shiver down his spine. His hands tightened and closed by his side. He caught her gaze. Stared as she pushed her body closer to the tree, almost as if she was trying to become one with it. Her body shook, she was clearly frightened. He let his gaze linger as she pushed away and started to run. He couldn't have that.

In a movement, that was too swift for her to see, he was in front of her. This caused the young woman to fall backwards, sending her tumbling to the ground. Quickly, he reached out, grabbing her by her forearm. He pulled her to her feet, closer into his space until she was mere inches away from him. She was panting as she tried to pull out of his grasp. It was to no avail, he was far stronger, far superior than her. There was no way a mere human, like her, could cause him to let go. Even if she was to use her power against him, he wouldn't have let her go.

Slowly, he leaned toward her, sniffing. Wisteria and nightshade invading his senses. Closing his eyes, his grip lessened, but only slightly," You're out late little miko." He drawled out the word and felt her shudder, could almost taste her spike of fear. It was delectable. He smirked, pulling away, waiting for her to speak.

His nails lightly scratched her skin, not enough to break the fragile barrier. Yet hearing the soft gasp that left the human sent his blood boiling. The tremble that left her, caused his mind to drift towards other more devious thoughts. Feeling her eyes roaming over him, did he take the time to observe her. Taking note of the way her eyes were alight with both fear and confusion. How she once more tried to pull away from him, only to once more fail at such a lame attempt. It was amusing to him, especially when she moved her arm, causing his nails to come closer to her flesh, with the possibility of cutting the flesh. Then her movements ceased altogether. A soft hum left him, causing him to glance up for a moment. His gaze caught her own. There in her eyes he took note that, while the fear was still there, her features changed. Confusion crossed her features, that then blended into hope, before fading into doubt. Such a curious little puzzle she was. He enjoyed each emotion that was shown to him. Then again he wanted to know what was going through her mind, to allow such petty human emotions to show in the first place.

"I wanted to get some fresh air," her voice was soft, meak a faint whisper that could barely be heard above the wind.

The grip loosen as his hand came up to caress her cheek, her eyes closed, feeling her body jerked from the close contact. As quickly as he touched her, it was over. He stared at her, disbelief and something else, something sinister, in his gaze.

"Tch, you should be careful where you roam little miko," his voice was rough, making no move towards her.

Following her gaze, he noticed how her eyes lingered on his arm, intently staring at the was starting to dry, becoming darker, almost black in the light. Movement caught his attention. Her free hand had moved to her chest, her head tilted up as she looked at him. Her mouth opened as if she were going to speak, before abruptly closing once more. Her gaze turned sharp in that moment, mouth set in a firm line.

"I can do as I please, I am safe on this land," She had raised her head up high, trying to act brave and fearless, but they both knew the truth. He did not call her out on her bravo, but dark amusement shone in those eyes.

He stared at her. Taking in how her gaze would move to the hand covered in blood frequently. With a smirk he raised the hand to his face, tongue darting out and lapping up the substance. He continued to stare at her as his tongue slid across the metallic substance. Her gasp filled the silence between them and he chuckled darkly as he step towards her to close the distance between them. He held the covered hand out, hovering the appendage close to her face as he leaned close. His breath hitting her cheek, "You keep looking at it, miko," He clucked his tongue mockingly, "do you, perhaps, want a taste?"

Startled by such a statement, her hand had reached up, slapping his own away," Why would I want to taste that? Are you mad?"

Yoko's gaze widened as she slapped him away. She was feisty, reminding him of the first time he had laid eyes on her, when she had rushed into the room to save her kit from whatever trouble he was getting himself in. Now it was back, it made him remember the exact reason that had made him curious about her. Quickly, much too quickly for her to see, he brought his left arm around her waist, bringing her body crashing into his own. Her small frame fit in his arms, she felt wonderful pressed close to his body. Such a move was bold, after today's events, and it should not have been done - but he gave little care now. He wanted and he took what he wanted. He cared not for the ramifications that came from his actions. Leaning down, he took a deep breath, memorizing her scent.

Annoyance bloomed in his chest and his fangs flashed dangerously as hands pushed against his chest.

A warning growl left him, yet he still felt her hands push against his chest. Her body jerked in his iron grip, nearly thrashing against him. Fear broke through his senses. It overpowered her original scent, causing his own body to shudder in delight at her torment. Her hands were balled up in small fist, that continuously hit against him. Yet her attempt to make him let go, or for her to move away from him, may not happened for all of the good it did her. He merely pulled her closer. The side of her face resting against his chest, her hands imprisoned between them, forcing her to clutch at his shirt. She stopped moving.

"Why did you kill him?" the question tumbled from between trembling lips after minutes of silence.

"I'm a demon, it's what I do," his rich baritone voice filled the space around them," Our ways are no different than a human's."

"A human wouldn't recklessly kill one of their own men."

"You have a lot to learn, Kagome." the words were sharp, cold.

"You're wrong, Lord Yoko," her words were firm, once more he felt her pushing on his chest.

Abruptly, he let her go, only to reach out to grip her chin and forcing her to look up at him. His gaze narrowed on her, feeling her hands grabbing at his arm, her nails digging into his flesh. His grip tightened, not enough to cause bruising, though enough to get her attention. He smiled, as her body shook.

"Am I? You have fought in many battles, you have seen the evil of the world around you. You are naive to think if man isn't evil. Blind to think that all a man has to do is pray for a Kami to forgive them and all is well in the world," He sneered, face inching closer to her own," don't act so innocent girl. There is blood on your hands, rather you meant for it to be there or not."

"I've never-" He cut her off as he pulled her face closer to his own. Blood lingering at the edge of his lips

"You never killed? Never protected yourself? I find that hard to believe. You are not weak, yet you act as though you do not understand the world around you. Stop acting as though you are innocent, it draws unwanted attention towards you." with those words spoken he let her go. Sneering as she stumbled back. His hand falling to his side.

Yoko looked on as she had found her footing, observed as she pushed her hair out of her face, his gaze never leaving her. There he saw realization come across her features. A hand came to her chest, one flinging up to her face. His head raised up, his lips moved, forming a sinister smile as he studied her movements. How her body moved to the side, trying to move around him. Eyes moved downward, looking at her feet. Her movements were gradual and deliberate. Testing him, with each movement she took. The wind blew, causing her hair to shield her face, covering her own frightened gaze, while his own was animalistic in nature. If she were to look closely, want and longing could be seen his eyes.

"I-I have to.." Her voice breathy, slightly broken as she spoke to him.

"Go back to your room Kagome," His voice came out husky, "We shall continue this discussion at another time."

His gaze lingered on her form as she took his words and ran as though the hounds of hell were quick on the heels of her feet. It was possible that they were. Still he continued to look after her when he could not see her, he could still smell her. He turned, looking over to the tree. He was not surprised by Yomi standing there. The male demon had his arms crossed over his chest. Mouth set in a fine line. Yoko said nothing as he moved closer to the tree. The wind blowing his silver hair around his tall frame.

"Was that wise? To scare the human like that.."

The dark haired demon with horns had his arms crossed over his chest, mouth set in a firm line. The look that crossed his features was one of warning. Yoko said nothing as he moved closer with the wind playing against his silver strands.

"I am courting her, do you not think it right for her to know how demons truly are?" molten gold looked over to his third in command.

Yomi held his hands up in a truce," I was just stating, that if you wish to win her over, scaring her into your arms will not work. As an advisor, as well as a friend, I advise you to tread lightly. Lord Sesshomaru will not be pleased to learn of your late night encounter."

At this, Yoko smirked," Don't question my motives. She will be my future mate, she will have to learn these things now or she will be learning them for the rest of her life. As for Sesshomaru, I will deal with the matter personally when the time comes."

"Not questioning you, just a warning," Yomi spoke, his voice hard," stop acting like a kit who is having his first heat."

Glaring at him, he walked away, moving to the body and calling forth his carnivorous plants. He observed as they started to eat at the remains, their saliva turning the bones into liquid, aiding them in the digestion of the body. It was an interesting sight to behold. Turning his body, eyes landing on Yomi, head tilted just slightly, his tail swishing behind him in annoyance.

"You can keep your warnings and opinions to yourself for now, I know what I am doing," he sneered," if she thinks I'm monster, I can only imagine what she will think of Kuronue."

XOXOXOXOXOX

She ran. Not stopping to even glance back at the Lord. Her line of sight focused to the prize in front of her, the back porch. There she would enter the hallway and make a beeline for her room. At this point in time, she cared less if she ran into the guards, cared even less if she were to run into the Lord of the manor himself. Anything was better than being out here. She needed to get away, she needed to think. Her mind was a jumbled mess, and with what had just occurred, it caused more than confusion in her mind. It caused an awareness to the words that Sesshomaru had spoken to her only a day prior. Words she took with a grain of salt, rolled her eyes at and refused to believe. Now she wished she did take heed of his advice, she would have been able to tell them both that she didn't have an interest in them. It was possible, her speaking to them, explaining that she wasn't ready for such a courtship to occur. Though the fact that this was Sengoku period in Japan. Majority of courtships were to bring clans together, expanding land to aid each other in becoming stronger. Not only for military power, but to increase their wealth.

Slender hands touched the wooden railing of the porch, panting heavily. Her body shook, whether from adrenaline or from the run in with Yoko, left her unsure. The look in his eyes, shook her to her core. The animalistic, almost predatory gaze, caused the blood in her veins to run cold. She recognized the look, it promised both pain and pleasure, and he was the master of both. Was it possible, that he was playing a game? Toying with her mind, thoughts and emotions? No that was not it. His killing of a fellow soldier was enough to make her believe, he would do what he wanted, and how he wanted. He was dangerous, and she needed to stay far away from him. Would he stay away from her? Would Sesshomaru be able to protect her from such a man?

Closing her eyes, allowing her head to rest against the wood, allowing the rough texture to bring her some sort of comfort. Still she felt his touch on her skin, the warmth that radiated from him. The power that he allowed to skim across the surface, trying to get some sort of rise out of her. Once more her heart sped in her chest. This time not from fear, but from anger. How could she tremble before him? Making herself feel so weak. So vulnerable, that was what had angered her the most. The longer she stayed here, the more she could overcome anything. When it came to human males, it was possible to at least fight them off. Demons on the other hand made it harder. Yes they were ten times stronger, she could use her power, yes she had some control over it, but not a lot. It was still possible for her to harm allies.

Biting the inside of her cheek, she moved her hand down the wood, moving along the edge, to the opening, stepping up. Her body was still shaking, though now it settle into a slight tremble. With a shake of the head, she pressed forward. Moving with awkward steps. The thought of running, while seemed like a good idea, would draw too much attention, especially at this given time. To leave at night, especially without a word to a soul, could cause repercussions, that not even Sesshomaru would be able to fix. That was the thought that kept her here, at least for now. In the morning she would discuss her wish to leave, tell everyone good bye. Then move on with her life for the rest of the summer.

Once more she took note of her surroundings. Monitoring the area's for guards. Just like before she would bide her time, allowing them to go around their duties, before moving forward. Taking the hidden hall, back to the family wing, before once more coming to her room. The hall in which the family wing was located, was still silent. She was unsure of the time, but was confident enough to believe that it was nearly midnight. All of the occupants, should be asleep. Of course she was an exception to that rule.

Sliding the door to her room open and took a tentative step in. The door snapped closed behind her. Eyes scanned over the room, every item was still in place. Candles still lit, though running down rather quick. Stepping to a dresser, finding the spare candles. Replacing the ones that were soon to die. Her run in with Lord Yoko had caused an uncanny fear of the dark that night. The thought of placing a protective barrier around her room came to mind. Though would that be rude? Would it say she didn't trust Sesshomaru's protection? Frowning, she decided not to pull such a card. At least not yet. She would bide her time, waiting for such the day when it was needed.

Sighing, softly she moved towards the closet. Removing the Kimono as she walked, frowning she she took note of the grass stains along the bottom edge of the material. Hopefully the maids wouldn't tell their Lord about it, or start any nasty rumors. That was the last thing she needed. Running a hand over her face, she proceeded to get dressed for the night. Placing on sleeping shorts and a tank top. Normally she had enough time to dress herself, so her sleeping attire was never really questioned. Sitting on the edge of the lavish futon, running a brush through her hair. A slight knock sounded at her door. Eyes narrowed, wondering who could be wanting to visit at this time of the night. Grabbing a thin robe, tossing it over her frame. Padding across the floor, her hand on the frame. Nails digging into the wood. Holding her breath, she wanted to speak, and yet she could not form the words.

"Kagome, let us in."

A sigh escaped her. The rich baritone voice familiar to her. A voice that she had come to recognize over the years of her travels. A voice that had once brought fear tearing through her soul, now brought on a more relaxing quality. With a smile in place, sliding the door open wide, allowing them both entrance. Azure hues took in both brothers. Her heart swelled with pride, knowing that in a small miniscule way, she had a helping hand in bringing them closer together. Sliding the door close with a firm snap, would she turn, moving a hand out, offering them a place to sit.

"Now what do I owe the pleasure of this late night visit?" A nervous laugh left her. It wasn't always a good idea to visit at night. Late night visits were usually left for far more serious matters.

"It has to do with your courtship to Lord Yoko and Lord Kuronue," Sesshomaru's words were precise and to the point. Little emotion was evident.

XOXOXOXOXOXO

"Excuse me?" Those were the words that had left the woman in which he considered a little sister.

Instead of answering her, he opted to take this time to look her over. She had grown considerably over the years. From that of a pesky teenage girl, to that of a young woman. She had grown into her body, still had her moments tripping over thin air, a feat only she could manage. While she was intelligent, more so than other humans, her lack of knowledge of the past still amazed him. How many times had he tried to educate her, only to fail in the end, for his words to go on deaf ears? This time, he would make her listen, whether she wanted too or not.

Walking past her, would he catch the faint scent of a demon. Not just any demon, Yoko. His hands tighten at his side, head raised as his gazed narrowed at her. Their eyes locking on to one another, causing her to look away. Of course, was he so blind to think that she wouldn't try to sneak out at least once before he arrived. Shaking his head, taking a deep breath to clear his mind. Anger was not going to help him. Would not aid him in telling her the full truth. Her anger would be enough, at least for now.

"Your courtship to the Lords Kagome. I believe it is past time to discuss this with you."

Casting a glance over to his brother, who only nodded in return as he stood in front of the door. HIs arms had crossed over his chest, blocking the door in case she wanted to run. This was a conversation that needed to be done. Had he not been so concerned with her feelings before, this would have been done already. Instead his mind went back to the thought that she was in fact from the future, that she would have been able to protect herself in some way from prospective partners that he wouldn't have been needed as much. Instead, she had to attract the attention of demons who were in the same class as him. A deadly combination.

The shifting of her feet drew his attention towards her. An eyebrow raised, as he watched her try to move to the door, only to be stopped by Inuyasha. The younger sibling held his hand out, a frown marred his features, his head shaking back and forth. Causing Kagome to look at him in disbelief. Their sister was now looking between them both. A fearful expression crossing her features. Her mouth opened to speak, only to close when the words couldn't, or wouldn't come out. Instead they were surrounded by silence.

"I can't…" her words were small, weak," I just can't court them, it's not fair, it's not my choice."

"You have no choice in the matter," His words were final, leaving no room for argument.

Hearing her scoff, observing as her hands raked through her hair. Listening as a shocked laugh left her. If he were to be honest, he would tell her not to worry. That this was just some small bump in the road, that would only take up a few weeks of her time until both of them tired of trying to court her. Though, if he were to tell her such words, he knew they would be nothing but lies. Honestly he had hoped that such a complicated matter would not occur. How was he to know that the two demons would turn their backs on their own ways. They each vowed to never have a mate, human or otherwise, unless advised too for the sake of the lands. Yet here he found himself in the middle of a courtship, that was now even more complicated by an accident that almost led to the death of Kuronue. He had come to terms that he had the worst of luck.

HIs luck didn't seem to be turning any better when Kagome turned to move to her closet. Grabbing a suitcase out, as she started to grab items out of the dresser. He raised an elegant eyebrow, casting a wondering glance over to his brother. Inuyasha was still guarding the door, though at the present time, his mouth was open as he took the sight before him in. Both knew she was scared, but scared enough to run away, no that was not Kagome's nature. She was the type of person who would never give up, to think of ways to get through a situation.

"Kags, just what in the hell do ya think you're doing?!" Inuyasha yelled out, taking a tentative step towards her.

A laugh was the only answer, followed by her shaking her head. Causing raven locks to spill in front of her face. Still she moved around collecting various items," I'm leaving. I just can't do this, it's not right. You both know this!"

A low growl filled the room, in the blink of an eye Sesshomaru had moved towards her. Grabbing a wrist, yanking her slightly, but with enough force to cause her to look at him. Gazing into her eyes, he saw fear there. Enough fear that it was causing her to turn her back on the situation. Leaning his head down, he sniffed at her. Eyes narrowed, while the fox demon's scent linger lightly earlier, the closer he was to her, the stronger it became. Especially around her face. What had occurred during her trip outside? He was now determined to find out what had happened.

"Miko," Just the single word was enough to silence any protest that was about to leave her," You are going to tell me what event transpired between Lord Yoko and yourself, for his scent to be all over you the way it is."

The request was simple enough, yet he could tell the stress it brought to her. How her eyes moved away from his own, the quickening of her breath. The tremble that left her body, even though it was slight, was enough to perturb him. Did Yoko force a kiss onto her? Did he try other things with her? For a moment he felt his inner beast rage against the cage in which he had it locked in. The thought of harm coming to her, in any manner, would send him near the edge. Closing his eyes, fear lingered around him. Feeling the woman shift in his grasp, slowly he would release her. Movement caught his attention. Casting a quick glance to his brother, his own hand resting on his sword, knuckles white from the pressure.

"Kagome, did he force himself on you?" The words that left his brother were forced, yet said through clenched teeth. He didn't want to believe such a thing possible either.

A scoff was heard, both turned their attention back towards her. Her hand ran over her arm, before moving up to her neck. Slowly she would shake her head no. though, she had yet to speak. He figured she was still trying to form her words. He would have smelt it on her, if she had been violated. Therefore, she told the truth. Instead they wait while she mulled over the words.

Minutes passed as both observed her, looking on as she sat on the bed, eyes downcasted. The fear that had once lingered was gone, replaced by confusion, and possibly hurt. So many conflicting emotions, and that was what made her, Kagome. What had caused others to come to her, to be her friend. Even Sesshomaru could admit that was what had caused her to garner his own attention. The way she stood by his younger brother, how she adopted a kit as her own, and her own relationship with the tajiya and the monk. All part of her pack, and yet when they all joined together, there wasn't any animosity. They didn't see each other as demon, nor human. Even others that came to the final fight with Naraku. They were all the same, and only wanted one outcome.

"I was walking when I ran into him. He was sparring with one of his men. I'm not for sure if he knew I was watching or not," Her voice was small. He nearly had to strain to listen to the words," He killed him, in cold blood like it was nothing. He saw me, we proceeded to talk. I told him that he shouldn't have killed him. That a human wouldn't go and kill like that. He stated that 'It's what demons do.'"

Silence filled the room, The lord of the west said nothing but waited for her to continue. Though he could only imagine the rest of the conversation. Eyes moved to his brother as he placed a hand on her shoulder. He caught the widening of her eyes. How she glanced up at Inuyasha and then to him. A sad smile played on her lips, as she was given comfort by his brother. A small huff left him, he knew what show Yoko was pulling.

"He is correct, it is what demons do," His voice somber," Though I know what he was doing Kagome."

Both looked at him then. One waiting for him to explain, while the other only nodded his head. He clenched his fist at his side, turning his head towards the door, not wanting to explain further, but knowing he had too. Knew that he had to explain more.

"He knew you were there," his voice broke through the silence," He did it as a way to show you his power Kagome. How he is more than capable of protecting you. No matter how strong or weak the opponent, he will kill them to keep you safe."

A glance to his brother, he would nod his head in agreement," It's a show of power. Many demoness's will go by the power that is shown from the perspective male, they will take that into consideration when they make their final choice."

"I don't like it!" The scream that left her, left his ears ringing with slight pain. She had stood now looking between them both," The look I saw in his eyes, before I ran, I may be young and inexperienced, I recognized that look. Of want, of need. I can't do this, for once I'm frightened."

What else could be said, what could be said to ease her mind? To ease the tension that cut through her being? Could any word he spoke make her feel better? Could he put her to ease? Moving with precise steps, standing in front of her. Pulling her close to his body. A soft purring sound left him, a sound meant to soothe and calm down his pack mates. As Alpha he couldn't bare to see her in distress. Feeling her body sink against his own, he would glance at Inuyasha. Both meeting the others gaze.

"Kagome, You must continue with the game. If you leave now, you face not only their wraith. They will forever look for you. A war will start, we can't have that," He started. He could feel her let out a deep breath, her hands moving to push away, and yet he held her tight," For now on, you will have a lady in waiting with you at all times. No matter who you are meeting, they will be there with you. The courting will continue, as I have stated, the courting can last for as long as you never decide. At one point in time, especially if you continue to come to the past, you may have to make a choice."

His words, while hard, were also soft. His hand moved up and down her back, a comforting measure. It seemed to work. Though he still felt the distress from her, he would make sure that no harm will come her way. No matter the circumstance that surrounded it. He would make sure that she would be safe. He would have to talk to Yoko, his display that night was not acceptable. Even if it was part of their practice. Scaring a human, would only make her back away from him, he would make sure to rectify this situation. Or at least try, it was the least he could do. With a sigh, he would move away from her. Looking down into her eyes, giving her a soft smile that was only meant for his pack. Resting a hand on top of her head, before turning to leave.

"Rest, tomorrow Kuronue will be wanting to meet you," Once more a cold exterior returning," your lady in waiting will be here in the morning, I shall speak to Yoko on your behalf. Remember Kagome, I can only protect you so much, this courting is going to be draining. More so than what you are use too, the fact that Yoko wants you may only make this harder. In the end I know you will make the correct choices."

With a nod of his head, he would motion for Inuyasha to follow him. Footsteps followed him out into the corridor. Both said nothing as the door closed behind them. Neither one spoke as they continued on their journey. Both aware of the ears that could be around them, waiting to take their words back to whomever and start the spreading of a tale. Though, it was already occurring, damage couldn't be fixed overnight. Both knew this, and yet the interaction between Yoko and Kagome lingered on their minds.

"He wants her, and he wont stop till he gets her," a rough voice broke through as they entered a small conference room that was located in the family wing.

"Hnn," Sesshomaru sat down, eyes narrowed as he gazed out the window," You are correct little brother. For such a display to be shown so early in the game. It is very concerning."

"If we could only intervene…"

"You know that is impossible Inuyasha, we can take small steps to make sure she is safe. Other than that," He spread his hands out. A gesture to show his hands were tied.

A heavy sigh filled the room, the younger of the two gazed out the window. Looking at nothing, yet his mind was elsewhere. A click of the tongue as he sat down," Yeah yeah. I know, but damn it Sesshomaru this is Kagome we are talking about!"

"I'm well aware," came a drool response," For now I will set boundaries, give her a lady in waiting, if it escalates I will even place a guard with her at all times."

"Will she make a choice?"

"As I've stated, it can go on for as long as she wants. They will not give her up. In the end, she will have to choose, at this point she has no choice. Let us hope, the choice is a wise one."
