TBO: Thank you all for the reviews for the previous chapters and here I present to you all the final chapter of this fic.
Warning: Major OOCness and Touka with amnesia. Didn't proofread either.
This chapter is absurd...
What was he still doing here? He wondered.
What business did he have sitting outside in the hallway, waiting outside for her like a pervert? Kaneki scratched his head and shook it, taking the thought back immediately. Wait, no. I'm not a pervert. He sighed and flexed his fingers. I'm just looking out for my friend who is sick and currently has the mindset of a ten year old child.
Yes. That was all he was doing.
He rapped his knuckles against the wooden bathroom door, and cleared his throat. "Touka-Chan, are you OK in there?" He asked worriedly. The sound of water swishing around and hitting the tiled floor filled his ears and he flushed pink in embarrassment.
Dead puppies, dead puppies, dead puppies-
The door gingerly opened and Touka stepped out of the bathroom; hair dripping wet and flushed pink. Kaneki turned towards her, and sighed in relief. It seemed that the clothes that he had picked out for her fit her perfectly. Then he noticed her wet hair and quickly pulled out a towel and started to dry it.
"You should know better than to leave your hair wet, your cold may get worse…" He scolded the teen lightly, concentrating on drying her hair. The navy blue haired girl sneezed abruptly causing the older boy to jump in surprise then stare at astonishment as he wiped her nose.
Kaneki paused and bowed his head to look at her. Touka's nose was a bit red, and Kaneki shook his head in disbelief. It has gotten worse...He let the black towel rest on her head and smiled sympathetically.
"Are you OK, Touka-Chan?"
Touka sniffed and nodded lethargically. "Just fine Papa." She chirped. He sighed.
"I'm not your…" He trails off when she smiles brightly at him.
Kaneki blushed heavily at her out of character actions and quickly continued to dry her navy blue tresses. Then he took her by the shoulders and steered her into the living room and sat her down on the brown comfy couch.
"You just sit down there, and I'll be back."
Dazed, Touka removed the damp towel from her head, and shot a look of bewilderment at the raven haired boy. The college boy walked with a quick pace towards the small kitchen that was connected to the living room, and snatched the kettle from the counter.
Touka cocked her head to the side, her short blue hair softly brushing her shoulder. "Papa, what are you doing?" She asked curiously. Kaneki opened the cabinets and grabbed the bottle full of coffee beans and placed it beside two mugs. "Making coffee…" He murmured, pouring water into the silver kettle. He turned off the faucets and placed the kettle on the fire, and wiped the back of his hand over his forehead.
He hadn't noticed that he was sweating. He was probably just nervous...what else could he feel in this situation? He was alone with this strange Touka. Not the strong, independent, and stubborn Touka. He was alone with the blunt, cutesy, and gullible little girl that was now sitting on the couch, and believed that he was somehow her father.
He knew that he should have gone to Yoshimura or Yomo to tell them about her weird condition-But whenever I even glance at the door, she starts pouting and gets upset. He sighed, and turned the knob on the stove, turning off the flickering flames.
Several Hours Earlier...
"Touka-Chan, why are you on the floor?" Kaneki asked worriedly, having just walked into her apartment and noticed that the younger teen was out cold on the ground. A small light shone in her eyes and Touka instantly recognized the pet name. She tightened her grip on his hand and smiled a closed eyed smile at him. Kaneki's eyes widened, astonishment at her sudden smile.
S-Touka-Chan is smiling!
"Papa, you're back!" She chirped happily. When she saw the dubious and surprise look on his face, she looked down at the blankets that she had surrounded herself in and scratched her cheek sheepishly. "I was waiting…for you to wrap me up." She sniffled and rubbed her nose. "I got sick again, Papa."
Papa?!
He deferred the memory and diligently pouring the water into the two mugs. He mixed the coffee, and inhaled its bitter yet relaxing aroma. This should help her cool down…Kaneki cautiously made his way over to the quiet blue haired girl and offered her a mug.
"Thanks Papa." She said accepting it. Kaneki held down his embarrassment at the name, and sat down in front of her in the smaller couch. He placed his coffee on the small coffee table and took in her reaction to the coffee that he made. The teen's nose hovered suspiciously over the mug, before she hesitantly placed her lips on the rim.
"Uh, Papa. I can't drink coffee."
Kaneki's head shot up. "You can't?! Why didn't you tell me? Can it kill you?! Are you going to die?! Do I need to take you to the hospital?! I mean I don't understand why because you drink coffee like all the time-"
Touka laughed openly at his reaction, which was short lived because her laughter was all reduced to coughs in a matter of seconds. She coughed into the crook of her elbow, and Kaneki immediately went to her side, gently massaging her back with his hand.
"You're…acting really…weird Pa…pa…" She said between coughs.
"Yeah…uh…sorry." Kaneki dropped his hand from her back and reached into his pants pocket for his phone. He was delaying it for too long- he had to call Yoshimura, someone that would actually be able to help. Touka was most likely going through a Ghoul related problem- and the Manager was a Ghoul. "I'll just call the Manager and we'll get you to the hospital…" He murmured lowly to himself.
"Manager…?"
Kaneki flipped open his phone and to his dismay, it was dead. He slapped the top closed and shoved the phone back into his pocket. "Damn," He glanced down at the confused girl, "I can't leave you here to find him either." He covered his face with his hands tiredly.
"I'm so useless…"
"Papa…I'm hungry." Touka deadpanned. A light bulb went off in the raven haired boy's head, and he patted her head sympathetically. "You must really be hungry right? I mean, when was the last time you ate? I'll get your dinner ready right now!" Kaneki said exuberantly, happy to be of help, and speed walking to the fridge.
Touka peeked over the head of the couch, and her eyes lit up at the thought of food. "Are you making my favorite Papa? Fingers sprinkled around intestines like Mama?" Kaneki almost gagged at her suggestion of a meal. He gave a quite noticeable shudder as he opened the fridge.
Touka…ghoul…right. He should be used to it, but just hearing her words made his insides scramble with unease. Kaneki pulled out the meat package that Yoshimura gave him and gave it to the skeptical teen. He plopped onto the couch and smiled reassuringly, as she eyed the package in confusion.
"Aren't you going to eat it?"
"Uh…yeah…"
"...is there something wrong…?"
For a moment, Touka looks up at Kaneki, and furrows her eyebrows together. Kaneki freezes and he clamps his hands together tightly, hoping that she remembers the package and where it came from. And he hopes that she can at least remember him.
"Oh, no it's nothing." She said, digging her nails under the tape. She rips open the package, and he turns away abruptly. His stomach is churning at the smell, and he presses his hand against his nose to try to suppress it.
Sensing the older teen's discomfort, Touka makes an effort to close the package and place it on the coffee table beside them. "Papa, I'm not really hungry." She said, tightly. "Here, take it." Snapping out of his discomfort, Kaneki slowly turned to her and was surprised to see her hold out the mug of coffee that he had made.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded.
Kaneki took the coffee from her hands and bowed his head. "Sorry." Touka cocks her head to the side, and drinks from her own cup of coffee. Kaneki smiled, and reached into his pants pocket and pulled out a small pouch. He can feel his left eye pulse uncomfortably under his eye patch.
Thank god I brought them.
Touka curiously watched as he drops one sugar cube in his coffee, and her mouth watered slightly at the smell. "Papa…can I…?" She motions shyly to his pouch full of cubes. Kaneki nodded and gingerly pulled one out for her. He holds it over her coffee and drops it in.
Touka drinks it all in one gulp, astonishing the half ghoul.
"It's good!" She exclaimed, surprised. "Papa, you're getting better at making coffee." She complimented him, making him flush pink in embarrassment. Kaneki rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.
"Thank you."
Refreshed, the blue haired girl sighed in relief, and her eyelids droop slightly. Kaneki took the cup from her, and chuckled at her expression. "I can't believe you had six cups, I didn't know it would be that good." He said jokingly. Kaneki realized that she was getting tired, after noticing that her droopy expression.
Wow, that's weird. Coffee is supposed to keep you up, not sleep.
"Papa, I'm tired. Where are the blankets?"
"Blankets? Aren't you sleeping on the bed?"
Touka's eyes widen and she looks at him dumbly. "You're so dumb Papa." She retorted bluntly, shocking the college boy at her not so sugar coated words.
So Touka-Chan wasn't as polite as I thought she would be as a child. He laughed the comment off, and stood up. "Of course, I'm sorry for being so dumb Touka-Chan." He apologized. Touka cocked her head to the side, in what Kaneki had to admit was very adorable and she huffed.
Kaneki walked into Touka's bedroom and snatched up all the blankets on her bed. And once he returned to the living room, he spread them flatly on the rug. "Alright. Blankets. Now, sleep." He gently pushed her shoulders and ushered her over to the blankets.
Touka blinked twice and stood still, and then much to Kaneki's surprise she spread her arms wide, smacking him right in the face with the back of her fist on impact.
"OUCH!" The black haired boy shrieked in pain. He immediately cupped his throbbing head, and moaned in pain. "Touka-Chan, you could have warned me first..." He groaned, massaging the bridge of his nose.
Touka puffed out her cheeks and continued to stand with her arms wide, determinedly...or annoyed. When she realized that Kaneki was still standing behind her, recovering from the hit, she frowned and turned to him.
"Papa, I thought you said you were putting me to sleep!"
"Of course, and that's why I pulled out the blankets. What else do you need?"
"I need you to do it right." Touka picked up a blanket and demonstrated what she wanted by wrapping it around her torso briefly. "Don't you remember Papa? Like this." Touka said, raising an eyebrow.
Kaneki laughed nervously. "You want me to wrap them around you?" Touka puffed her cheeks and shook her head vigorously.
"No, no, I want you to wrap me in them." Touka shook her head in disbelief and opened her arms wide once again. "Papa, you're so dumb. You wrap us in blankets all the time. Are you sure your my Papa?"
Kaneki picked up the blankets and sighed. "Even I ask myself that sometimes..."
After successfully (after so many tries) wrapping the teen up with the numerous blankets, Kaneki stepped back to observe his work. The bluenette stood stiffly in the middle of the living room, and her cheeks puffed out with a pink tint.
She looked like a huge balloon, ready to burst any second.
Kaneki sweat dropped at the comical scene. "Can you even breathe?" He asked her, adjusting the fabrics that were covering her lower face. Touka nodded, or at least trued to, though it was difficult due to the restrictions on her neck.
"You seriously look like you're about to choke."
"I'm fine..."
"Really now? Papa can tell that your uncomfortable."
"OK, OK, it's too tight!" Touka whined, trying to move her arms. Kaneki laughed and started to undo the knots-and then he remembered something very important. He pulled out his cellphone from his pocket and pressed a couple of buttons, before he aimed the phone at Touka.
The teen furrowed her eyebrows. "Papa, what are you doing?" She asked, looking skeptical. Kaneki smiled reassuringly and took a couple of pictures of the inflated girl.
"Nothing you have to worry your cute little head over." Kaneki chuckled, putting his phone back into his pocket. "Just in case a certain someone doesn't believe me in the morning." He murmured. And then he loosened the knots in the blankets, earning a relieved sigh from the girl.
Touka took a few steps from Kaneki, and fell to the ground, rolling over so that her chin would be touching the floor. Kaneki sat cross legged beside her and the two stayed in silence for a few moments.
"So...I guess this is where I tell you a bedtime story, right?" Kaneki asked the girl, smiling widely. Finally, something that he could probably do right. Kaneki pulled out one of his personal favorites-Monochrome Rainbow by Tatsuki Sen.
Touka lifted her head and sweat dropped at the sight of the book. "Why don't we just read a bedtime story?" She suggested, not interested in listening to the long book reading. Disappointed, Kaneki agreed and settled for a shorter version of a book that he had read when he was younger.
"Once upon a time, there was a young man; he was a salesman, a very busy one. Any, that busy man had woken up one morning and to his shock, he had woken up with the body of a vermin." As Kaneki began the story telling, he leaned back against the couch to make himself more comfortable. Touka furrowed her eyebrows, confused.
"What does the word vermin mean?"
Kaneki smiled wryly. "A vermin is an insect, and in this man's case he was a frightening insect. Surprisingly, the first thing he realizes is that he's late for work. As he struggled to get out of bed, his family also made efforts to get him to open the door as well. He was so late that even his boss came to see him."
"Did he open the door or what?"
"Oh, he did. And there were all so shocked that they chased him around and hunted him down like he was actually an insect." Kaneki said, still smiling.
"Does this story have a good ending Papa?"
Kaneki stayed silent.
Touka covered her face with the blankets, and sighed.
"Worst bedtime story ever."
But alas, the young bluenette fell asleep eventually during Kaneki's many attempts to find a story that she would like. Kaneki was also on the verge of falling asleep. He was still sitting on the couch, legs crossed, and his eyes were hesitating to close.
Can't sleep...must...sleep...
Despite his wishes and determination, the half ghoul slumped over and fell asleep.
The next morning, he found himself hanging upside down. He raised his head and realized that his feet were tied to a ceiling with a rope, and in front of him was an irate Touka whom was still dressed in her Anteiku uniform, and pacing around the living room.
"Uh...Touka-Chan?" He called out.
Said girl stopped pacing and marched over to him. She glared at him once she was close enough. "What the hell were you doing in my house last night, you pervert?" She asked angrily, crouching down to meet his gaze.
Sweating nervously, Kaneki held his hands up in defense. "I-I was just taking care of you, I swear!" Then he paused and got a better look at her. "Wait...you don't remember?" Touka pressed her lips into a thin line.
"Gee, do you think I would tie you up if I did?"
"...I have a picture on my phone...I took it in case you wouldn't believe me." Kaneki said, glancing at his pants pocket. Touka hesitated, before she stood up straight and pulled out his cell from his pocket.
She flipped it open and clicked on his recently taken picture. Touka was bewildered to see that it was a picture of her, wrapped in multiple blankets, and staring at the camera with a red face and puffed out cheeks.
Spontaneously, she laughed at the silliness of the picture. Kaneki was flustered by her actions, and raised an eyebrow at her. Touka crouched before him again, and cracked a smile.
"Were you trying to wrap me up in blankets?"
"Yes. Do you believe me now?"
Touka chuckled, and looked at the image once more. "My father was the only one who would wrap me up like this. I guess, I was just surprised...but I believe you, Bakaneki. And thanks for taking care of me." She said with a small laugh. She stood up, with his phone in hand and walked to the door. Kaneki struggled to raise his head.
"Touka-Chan, where are you going?"
"I have a morning shift, remember?"
Kaneki smiled nervously. "Aren't you going to untie me first?" He slowly asked, feeling the blood rush to his head. Touka smiled sickly sweetly and grabbed her house keys from the kitchen counter.
"Nope. This is your punishment."
"For?" Kaneki squeaked.
Touka smiled sickly sweetly and waved, half way through he door. "See you in the afternoon." She said, walking out the door. Kaneki struggled against his restraints helplessly.
"Touka-Chan?"
No answer...
"TOUKA-CHAN!"
TBO: Crazy, I know.
Well, this is what I was working on for chapter 5. Honestly, I'm so happy that I changed it.
Anyway, I want to thank everyone for reading and following this fic. It means a lot!
