Ranko 1/2
Chapter 4: The Doctor's Verdict
Author's note: I am sorry for not updating this story for a VERY long time. I had gotten caught up in school work, and when I had time I didn't believe I would be able to keep my sanity trying to stay somewhat grammatically correct. Though in hindsight it wouldn't have been as bad considering my English class only requires the ability to use the Pro-Key and learn a few new words and their synonyms. So I guess it was me being lazy. But here I am! I am writing! I am not promising any updates within any amount of time, but I am promising a conclusion at some point. So now lets see if after a year I can still write in a comprehensive manner!
{[I do not own Ranma 1/2. Ranma 1/2 it is property of Rumiko Takahashi.]}
Ranma and Akane opened the door to the examination room in the Tofu Clinic. "Hmmm, it seems that nobody is here." Akane said.
"Oh, is that so?" A hand landed on Ranma's shoulder. This mysterious hand caused Ranma to screech and hide behind Akane.
"Hey Akane," Dr. Tofu spoke, "So this is Ranma? Seems a bit more jumpy than I would have expected, specially for a martial artist."
"Yes," Akane started, "And Ranma seems to be a bit nervous. He says that he hasn't ever been to a doctor's office before."
"Really, and how old are you Ranma?" Tofu questioned.
"I'm 16." Ranma replied from behind Akane.
"I'm sorry Ranma I couldn't hear you." Tofu said with the intent of making Ranma come from her Akane shield.
"16." Ranma replied, stepping to Akane's side, Ranma was holding Akane's arm in a nervous manner.
"How have you not been to the doctor's before?" Tofu questioned farther.
"The Saotome family, has a high immunity to most illnesses." Ranma stated proudly as if a old Ranma was speaking.
"Well then, enough questions you are here for a very specific reason. Please take a seat and explain to me exactly what happened." Tofu said taking his seat, and motioning for the two girls to sit upon the examination bed. The girls took their seats, Ranma still rather close to Akane.
They explained what had happened. They also had to demonstrate Ranma's ability.Sometime during their explanation Ranma had become comfortable around Tofu.
"Well that certainly is an interesting case. Ranma, would you allow me to examine were you were hit?" Tofu said.
Yea, go ahead. Ranma said faintly. Tofu then rolled a bit closer and examined her head.
Amazing! A blow that caused your entire personality to shift left such a little mark, perhaps that Saotome resistance is more than just a strong immune system." Tofu stated, thoroughly amazed. "Now, we must evaluate this new personality of yours."
"Is that really necessary?" Ranma inquired.
"Yes, if you would prefer it, I'm sure Akane would leave the room." Tofu asked.
"No, I'd prefer to have her with me." Ranma said grabbing Akane who had already started to shift in her seat.
"Alright well since you would prefer to have her hear, she may stay. I guess we'll start with how you feel Ranma."
"I-i feel, I think I feel that I would prefer to be a girl."
"But you were born a boy." Tofu stated.
"I think so."
"So you do not recall the gender of your birth?"
"Well, yes, I do. But I don't feel that that was me. It feels like a dream, as if I was watching a dream of another." Ranma stated, acting nervously.
"So you don't feel like Ranma?" Tofu questioned intrigued at the girl's words.
"No, I feel as if I were a different person."
"Would it be fair to say that you feel like Ranma did inside his curse from?" Tofu asked, after a few moments of consideration.
"Maybe." Ranma stated after a long pause.
"Well, perhaps it would be best you live as a person separate from Ranma until we figure out just what this means." Tofu said, pushing his glasses up on his nose.
"So you can't help us!?" Akane exclaimed standing up, startling Ranma.
"I never said I couldn't, Akane, best not we jump to a conclusion." Tofu said looking very seriously into Akane's eyes.
"Yes, I guess so." Akane said returning to her place next to Ranma.
"So this means I'll have to come back?" Ranma asked.
"Yes. Now if we intend for you to live as another, for the time being of course, we should call you by a different name. What is the name that you would like to go by." Tofu asked.
"I don't know," Ranma began "I'm not good at naming things, nor people."
"It doesn't matter, so long as you like it." Tofu said.
"Well, I don't want to change it too much. Perhaps if I go by Ranko instead."
"Alright, Wild Child it is!" Tofu said spinning in his chair.
"No, I meant Orchid Girl."
"Oh?" Tofu said surprised. "Well it is up to you. Orchid Girl it is!"
Alright! So this last part might be a bit confusing. Tofu first exclaimed "Wild Child" This refers to the spelling of Ranma's name specifically the Kanji, Kanji is used for names and each character has at least one word that it means. His name being "Wild Horse" the Kanji for "Wild" and "Orchid" are the same sound, but have a different Kanji character, Tofu thought that He had only meant to change the one character, the Kanji for "Child" and "Girl" are the same.
So I am grateful to have put up this post! Now, someone had stated that a blow to that head that could cause an entire personality shift would have killed first, I have two responses to this "This is Ranma Saotome, he is extremely strong even at the first episode he is really strong." and "How do you know that I am going to decide that Ranma is using this as an excuse to not have to do training so he can pursue his lifelong dream of being a lumberjack! (Spoilers)" Now clearly one of those responses is more serious then the other but there is a thought in each that warrant his personality shift.
I am not promising an update soon, but there will be one when I have the time. (Right now it looks like I might start to work on another chapter this weekend, but that doesn't mean I will finish it.)
