Hey there all, I know it's been a long time but "For The First Time in Forever I have a New Chapter" (LOL). Hopefully more chapters for this story and other stories will be along soon. But for now. Please Enjoy as I give you Protector of Arendelle Chapter 12
12- The Coronation
2 years had passed since you had been shut out, You had spent that time in Arendelle, you kept watching over Elsa and Anna from a distance, you even wrote to them not knowing if the letters ever truly got to them. You woke up and saw the town becoming packed to the rafters, decorations adorning the town square and the streets. Even the clock tower where you had placed the Tardis was decorated. You grabbed a red velvet jacket, and waistcoat, putting them over a graphic t-shirt before walking out. There you saw people in their finery as you walked. Eventually you then could hear singing, a sweet and joyful voice you hadn't heard in awhile.
The Voice of Princess Anna.
You moved through the crowd and watched her dancing around and singing, some song about first time, not that you could hear the lyrics of her merry tune over the sounds of the crowds. As you watched you saw her walking along when you noticed a man on a horse heading in her direction, you go to say something but. WHAM. You notice the horse hit Anna and knock her into a boat. You slowly walk along and watch as she converses with the man on the horse, chuckling as you see Anna get into typical Anna shenanigans and notice her showing a sense of awkwardness you'd only see when you see someone you find as attractive. You put your hands in your trouser pockets, pushing the bottom your velvet jacket back as you lean against a wall, smirking as she leaves and the guy she was with taking an untimely dip into the fjord. Your eyes then turn back to Anna before you disappear into the crowds eventually appearing next to her, you smile at her "So who was the guy?" You ask curiously, Anna turns her head and smiled, replying "Oh just some prince from the Southern I… Oh My y/n" She said dropping a hug attack on you before backing up quickly "You saw me?" she asked curiously before you replied with a sentimental "When do I not see you two" you said before hugging her again and looking at her with a smile.
Anna looked at you when the hug broke up, she then heard the bells before grabbing your hand "Come on then, the coronation we're gonna be late" she said before you followed her at speed, you then thought before saying "Uh Anna I don't think I have an invite for the inside ceremonies" You say to which she laughs. "Well in that case you're my plus one" she said as you run past the guards and into the cathedral.
You looked around in awe, the place looked different from what you were used to, it was more open, and decorated according to the occasion. It looked beautiful.
Anna showed you where you could sit, then excused herself to stand at the front, after all, she was the new Queen's sister, of course she was part of the coronation.
It didn't take long for the ceremony to start. A choir started vocalizing a festive melody as Elsa entered the room. One look of her face and you could see that she was anything but comfortable with the situation. You didn't have to be a mind reader to know that she still wasn't a people's person and would rather be in a place far from here, for from all the people, far from all the pressure.
But she handled it well. To someone who didn't know the young queen as well as you did, she seemed like the epitome of grace, beauty and responsibility as she approached the minister with slow, deliberate steps.
You were watching her carefully, noticing every little thing that wasn't there two years ago. Like the look in her eyes… It had always been serious but even more so now. The sparkle that you saw when you almost kissed under the mistletoe that fateful evening, it was dulled, not completely gone, but hardly visible anymore. Her shoulders seemed more tense, her posture straighter, though that might be caused by her nervousness.
Everything went well, it almost seemed like the tiny little voice of worry in your head was there without a reason.
Apparently that seemed too good to be true, though. The ceremony was almost over when the minister asked Elsa to take off her gloves. It seems like in Arendelle it was frowned upon to wear gloves when holding the golden orb and the scepter. You could see Elsa's hands shaking when she took off her gloves and held the items in her hand briefly. You tried to make eye contact, to assure her that you were there and she didn't have to be afraid, but the young queen stared straight ahead, not even glancing in your direction.
With a little surge of panic you notice the thin sheet of frost that began to cover the orb and scepter and you couldn't help but sigh softly in relief when she placed them down on the velvet pillow again and put on her gloves.
Once the ceremony was over, the guests moved into the ballroom. It was one of the empty rooms you have known from your time in the castle, but just like the rest of the royal residence it was hardly recognizable today with all the people, food and decorations.
You scanned the room for Anna who was having a quiet and slightly timid conversation with her sister until they were interrupted by a short man with a not-so-subtle hair problem.
The Duke of Weselton, or was is Weasletown, with all the music you couldn't be sure what he said, took Anna's hand and led her to the dancefloor where he proceeded to dance in an… interesting way with the Princess.
With Elsa now alone, you saw your chance to talk to the girl you were so close to just two years ago.
"I must admit… I feel sorry for your sister.", you said as you stood next to the newly coronated queen.
Elsa startled and whipped her head around, her eyes widening in surprise but other than that there didn't seem to be a lot of emotion in them. You couldn't say if she was happy to see you or if she didn't really care and as much as you hated to admit that… It hurt.
"Well, y/n" She started, her voice just like you remembered, clear, soft and composed. "That is exactly the reason why I don't dance." Her eyes softened at that and she actually cracked a small smile. "I missed you." She whispered.
"I missed you, too." You replied softly, reaching out to take her hand but retrieving your hand in the last second. You didn't know how Elsa would feel about it, didn't know if she'd allow it. "I never wanted to leave. I hope you know that." You said, feeling the need to reassure her. "And I think you managed everything wonderfully today. Even without your gloves." With a lopsided grin you then took her hand, studying the glove with exaggerated scrutiny. "Those are nice. Who made them?" you ask teasingly. To your relief, Elsa didn't pull her hand away or slap you but a small giggle escaped her, it was a beautiful sound. "Oh… it was a gift. From someone really amazing." She said with a small smile.
"Well… that person has good taste." You teased and your gaze landed on Anna who was dancing with the boat-guy as you decided to call him.
A strange feeling of protectiveness started to spread in you when you saw the two dancing. Even though you hadn't seen the sisters in a while, you had still been their personal protector for the biggest part of their lives and you already knew if Boat-Guy broke Anna's heart, you'd break him.
When Anna seemed to be disappearing from the surface of the earth and Boat Guy was nowhere to be seen as well, you almost set off to search the whole castle for the maybe-lovebird but your worry seemed to be unfounded when just a few minutes later the two of them rushed back into the ballroom and up to Elsa.
Seeing as the moment between you and Elsa was broken now, you took a step back to give the sister and Boat Guy a minute of privacy but you couldn't help but stay in earshot.
But when Anna and Boat Guy, whose name was Prince Hans, as you found out, started stuttering you edged a little closer. Their faces were flushed and they both seemed to be nervous and excited at the same time.
"We would like…", Anna started when Hans interrupted her. "…your blessing…" The Princess giggles and took over. "…of…" The couple looked at each other and finished in perfect unison. "Our marriage!"
Now that was a turn of events…
