Apollo's POV
At once, every Hellhound shot towards us. Again, found myself thanking Hephaestus that my arrows automatically returned to my quiver when I shot them. I would have run out otherwise. For every one that I killed, another two seemed to take its place. Percy was already practically nothing more than a sexy tornado of monster dust. The two of us were doing our best to keep them all away from Rin.
As I fired off another two arrows in quick succession, one of the hounds was finally able to break through close enough to launch at me. I had just enough time to think that this was going to hurt, when I heard a yelp. Rin was able to yank her arrow free of its shoulder as the creature turned its sights on her instead. It swung at her, but she jumped back from its paw and stab it again in the snout.
Percy spun towards us just long enough to send the beast to Tartarus. Rin sent him a glance that was half thankful of his help, half annoyed of his interference, but he'd already turned back to his fight.
I had to look away from her too as a group of hellhounds circled around to start coming at us from all sides. There were well over two dozen monsters, I didn't have the time do an exact count. I was too busy trying to stay alive. Not for the first time since my punishment started, I felt a flash of real fear for my life. We were fighting out best, but we were slowly being overrun by sheer numbers. A full-fledged god would have even struggle to escape this many creature unharmed and all we had was a temporary god not in control of most of his powers, a god turned mortal, and a little demigod with the courage of someone three times her age and size.
The beasts were slowly getting closer to us as we were unable to fully keep them all at bay. I heard Percy yelp in pain. Against my will I turned and saw him slash is sword through the hound that was hanging off his left arm. It burst into dust, leaving him with ichor dripping down his wrist. It certainly wasn't going to be a mortal wound, even if he hadn't been an immortal, but the sight still turned my stomach.
I was forced to turn my attention back to my own side when I heard Rin yell as she stabbed another hound, this time her aim was true, and it disintegrated. Her disgusted face as she was covered in monster dust for the first time caused a very small spike of amusement to break through the fear.
Another beast launched at me before I could even shoot off the arrow I'd drawn, so I was forced to use to as a blade. As the arrow punctured straight through the creatures' neck, I found myself suddenly thankful I had spent so much time training for melee combat with the son of Poseidon. I didn't even wait to watch it explode before having to turn and to draw my bow to shoot another. The grit of sand I felt in the breeze assured me of its demise anyway.
We continued to fight for our lives. I heard Rin's scream of pain as a creature clawed her across the side. As one, Percy and I turned and ensure the monsters destruction. A quick glance at her told me that it wasn't immediately life threatening, though she'd need a square of ambrosia if we survived long enough. I was impressed when the young girl continued fighting. My respect for the child went up another notch. Not many kids would take a wound like that and keep going.
The hellhounds that were still attacking were now mostly at least injured. I was still fending off attacks from seven beasts, I wasn't sure how many Percy had left. Any time one snuck between us to try to attack out backs, Rin was able to either fight it off long enough for one of us to help or, as some had found out, kill them herself.
I was beginning to think that, maybe, we could do this. However, I'd been so busy with the hounds, I'd forgotten about their master.

Percy POV
I was hard pressed to remember a fight as intense as this. It seemed as if there was no end to the numbers of the creatures coming out of the trees. I sliced clean through the hound that had just launched at my side and had to run an arm across my forehead to get rid of the dust that was starting to fall into my eyes. I winced as the golden dust got into the bite mark on my arm, both in disgust and pain. The bite wasn't a pleasant feeling but considering most of the wounds I'd gotten since I learned I was a demigod, it was manageable.
I didn't have time to focus on it any longer as I saw two of the hound's rush together, trying to get behind me. My blade pierced the heart of the first one, and I saw Rin's makeshift knife stab the other in the leg. The dog jumped back with a yelp and limped away, eyeing us again and waiting for a better time to attack.
I nearly groaned out loud when I saw another three hellhounds run out of the woods and join the numbers that were finally starting to thin. There must have been something about that wolf king guy because I had never seen so many monsters willing to work together outside of Kronos' army. I briefly wondered if he'd be able to get a contract with Hephaestus TV, maybe have his own dog whispering show. If he hadn't been a sociopath who was trying to kill my boyfriend, I probably would have even watched it if he did.
Before my thoughts could get further off topic, the three new hounds charged at me.
I swung at the first beast and made it jump off course to avoid being skewered. I'd hoped that the unexpected road block may stop a second one, so I only had to focus on the one, but the huge black beast simply jumped over its companion and continued its attack. I managed to slice through the third one's paw when it swiped at me. It tried to get back to the safety of its pack, but a sword through the heart took care of that one. I was immediately forced to drop into a roll to avoid the jaws of the second hound. I didn't even manage to completely get back to my feet before I had to throw myself to the side again to avoid its next attack. That one was so close, I felt the hem of my shirt tear off. I took my chance while it was distracted chewing its nutritious meal of cotton to slice my sword through its neck.
I didn't even have a second to breathe. I was in the process of turning back around when out the corner of my eye I saw the dark shape of what must have been the first hellhound lunging towards my face. I moved faster than I ever had before but I still wasn't sure I would be able to make it in position to defend myself. I felt a shot of adrenaline shoot through my system as I finished my turn and barely got my blade up in time before its jaws snapped down on the spot my throat had been.
As the beast exploded, my vision suddenly seemed to wink out of focus. For one second, I thought that the hellhound had managed to land a hit on my head before I realized that my godly vision had kicked itself on. It felt like I had a second set of eyes, focused slightly off to the left of where my actual eyes were aimed. Before it had been a struggle to keep it going, I had always gotten distracted and accidently let it fade. Yet I knew in an instant that this was different. I hadn't intentionally called on it. I had no doubt that I could keep this going for as long as I needed without devoting most of my attention to keeping it up. For the first time, watching two things at once wasn't making me dizzy in the least. It was more like I had kept one eye closed all my life and finally opened my other. It simply extended my field of vision. I took a moment to marvel at how effortless it suddenly seemed to be. I was very happy at the thought that at least I would have one good thing to tell Apollo when we got out of this.
At the thought of his name, my 'second eyes' seemed to move of their own accord over to see how the sun god was making out. I heard him grunt in exertion as he stabbed a hellhound in the neck. I felt a huge smile split my face as I realized I had heard him, not only out loud, but also in my head. It seemed that the missing ingredient to my godly vision was adrenaline, or whatever version of that gods had. My grin grew even larger at that as I grasped the possibilities. I could keep an eye out and help them when I could, while still focusing on my own fight. Double vision ruled.
I was so busy focusing on my victory over finally learning how to control another of my godly gifts, that didn't even see the wolf king move.
Lycaon had been standing off to the side during our entire fight, seeming content to watch our struggles rather then join in himself. One moment he was watching his minions trying to tear us apart, the next he suddenly he had Apollo on the ground. His hands were wrapped around the sun gods throat, slowly squeezing the life out of him. I felt a shot of revulsion at the intense look of pleasure on the wolf kings face.
I didn't even think my actions through, I jumped towards him with a yell and swung Riptide at his throat. I watched in horror as my blade passed through him harmlessly, as if he wasn't even there.
Two hellhounds growled at me for trying to attack their master, but when they started towards me Lycaon released Apollo's neck, leaving him gasping for much needed air, and waved them down.
"Enough, leave them to me."
As one, the monsters drew back, forming a ring around the four of us. The first werewolf gave me a mocking smile. "Poor little hero. Can't even protect your friends."
Apollo tried to take advantage of his distraction to knock the wolf king off him, but the pale faced man just laughed and casually backhanded the sun god across the face. My hand tightened around the hilt of my sword and I took a step towards him. He just laughed louder and spread his arms. "You're more then welcome to take another swing. Celestial Bronze does nothing to me." He narrowed his eyes at me and sneered. "You have no choice but to stand there, useless and horrified, as I slowly kill him in front of you." He smiled again. "I am going to enjoy this immensely."
I felt my stomach turn at the thought as his hands went back to Apollo's neck.
"No!"
Before I could come up with a plan, before I could do anything more then yell, Rin jumped forwards and wrapped her mothers' necklace around the wolf king's neck. The greasy black-haired man let out a howl of agony as the metal touched his skin. Faster then I could even track, he spun around and hit her, sending her flying. The little girl hit the ground hard and didn't move. For a moment I thought my heart would stop, until I saw her chest continue to rise and fall.
The first werewolf growled, ripped the offending necklace off, and threw it to the ground, clearly disgusted by her weak, but incredibly brave, attempt. When he turned back to me, I lost my control over my godly form for the first time since my fight with Annabeth. He flinched back from the blinding golden light at first, but he recovered and gave me an unimpressed look.
"I'm not a mortal, that form doesn't hurt me. There is still…"
I didn't consciously decide to do it, but before I could think about my actions, I stepped forward and punched him in the jaw.
His head snapped back, and he stumbled, but he didn't fall. He looked more shocked then injured as he rubbed his chin. He drew his lips back and flashed me a sharp toothed snarled. "Hounds…"
He didn't get any further then that before the sound of a horn cut through the air. I forgot all about my godly vision and turned to look behind me at the sound. Lycaon hissed and drew back. Before I had time to question his reaction a hail of arrows shot out of the trees. The remaining hellhounds tried to run but they didn't make it more then a pace or two before every one of them was killed.
The werewolf king knocked three or four of the arrows aimed at him out of the way, but several more still managed to pierce him. If their silver color wasn't enough, his cries of pain would have clued me in to their composition, and from that, their source.
He had clearly decided he'd rather live to fight another day. He started to run. He managed to make it exactly eight steps before his retreat was cut off by a silver chariot. A young girl leapt out of it and directly into the wolf kings' path. Lycaon skidded to a halt and snarled. He suddenly drew a knife made from what looked like bone. I started to shout a warning to the goddess in front of me, but before the words had even passed my lips, she drew out a silver bow and shot an arrow directly through the beastly king's heart. His face contorted with shock and pain, before he collapsed in a heap.
No one spoke as we watched the life start to leave his eyes. I kept waiting for him to burst into dust. It wasn't until I saw him stop breathing that I realized he wouldn't. I felt a shudder go through me as I remembered what Jason had told us. He hadn't been born a monster. He had been a human king, who had tempted Zeus until the King of the Gods had cursed him. He may have been immortal, but unlike the gods, that didn't mean he couldn't be killed. Unlike the monsters he had controlled so effortlessly, he wouldn't be respawning either. Perhaps it was my temporary godly state, but his death disturbed me in ways that the other deaths I had seen didn't.
I couldn't turn away from the corpse of the wolf king until I heard Apollo cough. I forced myself to look away and went to my boyfriend's side. I winced at the bruises around his throat and helped him sit up. He gave me a weak smile and turned to his sister.
"Good timing Artemis."

Tada! What do you think? I am not going to lie, I thought I had dropped too many mentions about Artemis and the moon, I was certain everyone knew exactly where this was headed. Hopefully I surprised at least some of you. Also, what? A THIRD chapter in as many weeks? I am on a roll. I had intended to put a lot more in this chapter, but this fight went on much longer then expected. We'll have to wait for the family reunion till next week.
