It was the dead of night and all the human occupants of the bunker were fast asleep, while the two angels sat in the library talking. Or well more truthfully Castiel was trying to explain to Dean how to mask his thoughts, while Dean was trying his hardest to enjoy drinking the beer in his hand. Because there was no way he was letting his new angel-ness interfere with his enjoyment of a good beer. Not to mention he felt he could really do with it right then. So much had happened over the last few days, and then having to control himself whenever he was around Sammy, it was hard, damn it. He just wanted to relax with a good beer, was that really too much to ask for?

"Dean, are you listening to me?" Castiel asked in exasperation as he saw Dean's eyes drift to the bottle once more, a frown on his forehead after he'd taken yet another drink.

"Nope. How does Gabriel do it?" Dean asked hoping the angel in front of him, hoping he could share some insight in how to make his taste buds taste the beer he remembered, not, whatever the hell it was he was currently tasting.

"Do what?" Castiel asked with a sigh, even if a crooked smile did appear on his lips. He should have known better than try to train Dean now. After all the fledgling had listened very intently earlier as he gave him the history of angels. He was pretty sure that was the maximum attention Dean had ever given anything he'd said, so he wasn't really surprised that he wasn't paying attention now.

"Make it so this tastes like beer." Dean explained with a huff as he put the bottle down, glaring it as if it had personally offended him. He was not going to spend his eternal life sober. No way, that was not happening. He didn't care if angels didn't get drunk, he was going to find a way, even if it took him years to do so, and it wasn't like he didn't have the time.

"I have no idea. Even as Emanuel I could only taste the molecules, I assumed that was how things were supposed to taste." Castiel replied with a shrug. He didn't understand how their older brother could eat sweets and other things all the time either. It was just a quirk of Gabriel in his mind.

"No beer should ever taste like that, Cas." Dean responded in an offended tone. Looked like he was going to have to get Gabe to teach him that one. Son of bitch, he could really do with a beer right then.

"I'll take your word for it. Now do you want to learn how to shield your thoughts, or do you want to discuss what it is that is making you want to drink?" Castiel asked evenly, though he was pretty sure he knew the answer to that one. Dean didn't do chick-flick moments after all.

"Bite me, Cas." Dean glared back making the other angel smirk at him.

"in that Case, as I was saying-" Castiel started to say, returning to the training he'd been trying to give, but before he could get any further a scream ripped through the bunker.

Dean didn't think, didn't question anything as he jumped up angle blade in his hand as he went running to where the scream had come from, Castiel hot on his heels. But unlike his friend he did not have his weapon at the ready, mainly because he knew who was screaming and why.

Arriving at Meg's room in record time they found her sitting in the middle of her bed, her arms tightly held around her legs. She looked so small sitting there like that. So young and so very afraid, Dean did not hesitate to move into the room, though he did not touch the former demon. Instead he settled into the chair next to her bed.

This was followed by silence as Dean tried to think of something to say, not that he could find any words. He never had been able to when he'd been the one woken from the nightmares of hell.

"I'm fine, I don't need a couple of tree toppers watching over me." Meg said into the silence, trying to sneer and put bite into her words, though the fact she could not force herself to release her legs kind of ruined the impression somewhat.

"I'm pretty sure it's in the job description. You know, watching over humans. Guess you're stuck with us." Dean replied with a smirk, though his tone was gentle. He truly wanted to help her, in any way he could. He was the reason she was going through this after all. He was the one who'd used her to close the gates of hell, he was the one who'd turned her human.

"Don't think that includes ex-demons, sweet cheeks." Meg snapped back though there wasn't any real venom in it. The idea of having Dean there… it felt good, even if she was still mixed up with that jealously crap. If she didn't think of him as an angel, instead thought of him in terms of the mantra she had been living by since she got turned… well at least now she could get the answer to what would Dean do, right? "How did you do it?" She asked quietly turning to rest her head on her knees as she looked at the being at her side.

Dean didn't need to ask what she was talking about. He already knew what was haunting her after all. "Alcohol, lots and lots of alcohol." He replied with a sunny smile which caused Meg to roll her eyes.

"Oh please, alcohol was your coping mechanism long before you went to hell, honey." She responded, she needed answers, not flippant reply's.

At the Dean nodded before moving his eyes from the woman on the bed and settling them on the angel who was standing in the doorway, as if he didn't want to interrupt, but also did not want to leave Dean alone. It was so very Cas. "I found a reason to keep going. Found a purpose to get up every morning, and make sure I came home every night."

"You had a cause. You know, I almost wish there was an apocalypse now." Meg replied staring away from Dean as the unspoken continuation of her sentence hung in the air. The unsaid words that touched emotions neither of them were comfortable expressing. The words that said she too would then have something to live for, though all who heard her words knew they were there.

"The apocalypse wasn't my reason, Meg. It was Sam, it's always Sam." Dean responded simply giving her an honest smile when she turned to stare at him a small frown on her forehead at his words. Though it soon dispersed. She should have seen that one coming, really.

"Your co-dependency really runs deep, huh?" She smirked back, a light returning to her eyes at the chance of teasing Dean once again.

"Nah, its family." Dean responded with a roll of his eyes at her words.

"Well I don't have one of those so-" Meg replied aiming for a nonchalant tone, though she wasn't sure she hit the mark. Not that it truly mattered as Dean interrupted her before she could say anything more.

"Yes you do. Everyone in this bunker is your family, Meg. Me, Cas and Gabe included." Dean stated in a no-nonsense tone. He wasn't having her think she didn't have a family. After everything they'd been through together, after he'd turned her human, she was family.

"So I'm like the sister you never wanted?" Meg asked with a smug grin on her lips, though inside the idea of being a sister to the Winchesters sent a warmth spreading through her. It reminded her of what it was like to have a family, a place to belong. It had been so long since she had that, even in hell her position had always hung on a knife edge. She had always had to prove herself. But here, no one was asking anything of her. It felt nice, it felt good.

"More like sister-adjacent." Dean corrected a shiver running up his spine at the idea of Meg as his sister. No, she was more a cousin, you know that one you hate because she was an evil spoilt brat, but that grew on you in time.

"So what's that? Like a sister-in-law? Are you trying to set me up with sexy Sam again, little Deaniel?" Meg asked laughing out loud at the look of horror that crossed his face at her words.

"Don't ever call me that again. Especially not in front of Gabe." Dean replied, deciding to ignore the comment about his brother. He wasn't blind, no matter how much he liked to pretend he was sometimes. He'd seen the looks Sammy had been sending the newly human Meg, and hey as long as he's happy, then Dean was too. Well as long as she didn't hurt him, cos then he might just have to smite her. Hmm, maybe he should ask Gabriel to teach him how to do that next, just to be on the safe side.

"Why not? Angel Deaniel, defeater of demons and saviour of humanity. I think it has a nice ring to it." Meg responded relaxing back to lean against the headboard and stretching out her legs without thought. The conversation she was having with Dean having taken her mind out of her own personal hell and returned to the reality of what she had now. Returned her to her family.

"Son of bitch." Dean muttered shaking his head. He knew there was no way he was going to get her to stop now. Awesome. He could see it now, an eternity of being called little Deaniel. He should have ganked her when he had the chance.

Of course all his reaction did was cause Meg to laugh harder. Oh yes, she had missed this when Dean was dead. And suddenly the jealously that had been curling in her gut disappeared. Because she suddenly remembered that this wasn't just a newly made angel, he was also Dean. And well, how could she be jealous of Dean, when there were sooo many ways she could wind him up?

And Castiel, who'd been silently watching them both couldn't help but smile at their interaction. Yes, this was his family, and he couldn't think of a better one.

Gabriel sat reading through the summaries Hannah had made of the reports, loving the fact she had managed to condense piles of papers down to three sheets. That was the sort of efficiency he approved of. Not to mention just the right amount of paperwork in his opinion. Finishing them his mind starting whirling as considered his next move. He needed to put his stamp on heaven, needed to make it known from the off that he was most definitely in charge and that things were going to change. And he had the perfect way to do that. Therefore turning to Hannah who was still sat in front of him he spoke.

"Okay. I need you to set up a meeting with all the heads of the different departments for tomorrow afternoon so we can discuss the restructuring I will be implementing. When that's done I want you to send out a memo to all angels asking for their strengths and weaknesses. I also want to know if any of them are unhappy in their current roles or if there are other roles they wish to try. When the results come in I want you to summarise them all for me so I can go through them before the meeting." Gabriel said reeling off all the things the he needed done so he could put his stamp on heaven.

"Of course, commander." Hannah replied nodding her head before standing to do as he asked. Though she couldn't see how Gabriel would be restructuring heaven, but it was not her place to question his orders. He was the archangel in charge, and she was sure he had a great plan for their home and their family.

"Thank you, Hannah. Oh, I will be unavailable for the next few hours. I need to return to earth." Gabriel finished with. He'd done what he could in heaven for the time being, now he wanted to go and see the rest of his family. As such as soon as Hannah had left his office he flew down to the bunker to see how everything was going, and to make sure Dean-o hadn't burnt anyone's eyes out. Though he was sure if he had he'd have heard about it by now.

Castiel felt as soon as Gabriel landed in the library and as such turned to Dean, to see a frown on his face. "Gabriel has returned." He said, hoping that would explain the feeling he knew Dean had at the arrival of the archangel.

"You should go." Meg replied turning to Dean and moving her leg so she could poke him with her toe to accentuate her words.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Dean asked, not wanting to leave her if she wasn't. She was his responsibility after all.

"I'll be fine." Meg replied with a small smile, though she wasn't sure if it was the truth or not. But she couldn't have Dean following her round for the rest of her life, if for no other reason than she was sure they would kill each other if he did.

"It'll get easier, you know. They'll never go away, but you'll learn to cope. Eventually." Dean responded seriously. It was all he could think to tell her, all he could offer in the way of help. That it would get better one day.

"It'd better, or I'm coming for you Deaniel, angel-boy or not." Meg replied with a nod, before turning and moving back under the covers with an aim of trying to sleep once more. And she would sleep, because she did not fail. She would not let her fear win, no matter what.

With that Dean followed Castiel out of Meg's room and headed towards the library, the only thing on his mind was that he hoped Gabriel never heard the name Deaniel. Which of course backfired due to the fact he still hadn't learnt how to mask his thoughts from the angels around him.

"Deaniel? Oh that's genius. I love it, little bro." Gabriel shouted as he saw Dean enter the room. He'd heard him coming before he arrived, and he couldn't stop himself from using the thoughts he'd heard.

"No, Gabriel. My name is Dean." Dean growled out glaring at the archangel as he moved to sit back at the table, pulling his beer towards him and automatically taking a sip before he remembered it didn't taste right anymore.

"Not very angelic though is it Dean-o? I'll make sure I record your new angel name when I return to heaven. Deaniel, newest fledgling to the heavenly host. Oh yes, Deaniel, the angel of… brewing. At least you'll get alcohol as offerings." Gabriel replied getting excited over the idea. In his mind it was done, Dean's angelic name would be Deaniel, and considering he was the current leader of heaven, his word was law.

"Cas, kill me now, please?" Dean begged of the other angel in the room, hoping he would help him somehow.

"Well Dean, if you had listened when I tried to teach you to conceal your thoughts, this would not be happening." Castiel replied stoically, though he couldn't stop a small smile appearing on his lips at the astonished look Dean gave him.

"Seriously? You're taking his side?" Dean demanded. How had this happened? Cas was his friend.

"There are no sides, Dean. And you do need an angelic name, would you prefer Deanoiel, or perhaps Deniel instead?" Castiel asked completely seriously, though the effect was rather ruined by the howls of laughter coming from Gabriel.

"Oh, this is priceless." Gabriel finally got out when he had his laughter under control. Or at least it was under control until he looked at Dean and saw the glare he was giving him. That just set him off once more.

"When you're quite finished. What are you doing here Gabe?" Dean snapped out, deciding they'd had enough fun at his expense for now.

"Well I came down to let you know what going on in heaven and work out when our next training session will be. Though glad to hear Cassie is taking on trying to shield your mind. You really need to be able to do that before you come and meet the rest of your new family." Gabriel responded, pulling himself together as he talked to both of his brothers.

"I am more than happy to help train Dean." Castiel replied instantly.

"Good, cos running heaven is kind of a full time job. Though I do have an excellent PA. Speaking of which I am going to be doing some restructuring. When I'm done I want to make you, Castiel, my second in command." Gabriel responded, looking at his brother as he did so. He knew what he was asking from Castiel, but he also knew he could do it. There was not a braver angel in the whole of heaven in Gabriel's mind, and well he'd have Dean-o at his side. And together, he knew those two could do just about anything they put their minds to.

"Gabriel. I am honoured that you would offer me such a position-" Castiel started to reply, not sure how to word what he needed to say to his elder brother.

"I'm hearing but coming." Gabriel interrupted. He knew what that but was all about. I mean Cassie and the other angels did have a rather, tempestuous recent history, but they all needed to learn to put that behind them.

"But, I do not believe the other angels will approve of such a thing." Castiel said, finishing the thought he knew was going through all of their minds.

"Well it's a good thing that I'm in charge then isn't it? No one will question me, Cassie. And I want you by my side. No, I need you by my side. You can help me teach them what being an angel truly means. Help them learn right from wrong, and how to make the correct choices for everyone. There is no one else who can do what you can." Gabriel replied earnestly. I mean Castiel had made some serious mistakes, who better to teach others how not to go down the same path he had?

"If you sure, then I accept." Castiel answered with a bow of his head as he agreed to take on a position he did not think he was qualified for. But it was not his decision to make, and if Gabriel wanted him, then he would be at his side.

"Excellent. Now I best be getting back to heaven, here is some notes to help you teach Dean-o a few things, and I'll get Hannah to schedule a regular training session in heaven for the rest. Have fun, bros, oh and try and stay out of trouble." And with a snap of his fingers he left a bound book on the table as he flew back to heaven, returning to the role he had chosen to undertake. Returning to the task of turning the angels from mindless sheep who followed anyone, and instead giving them the tools to learn and discover themselves and what it is they are truly meant to be.

Sam entered the library to find his brother sitting with Cas at the table. He couldn't stop the smile that spread across his lips as he saw him there. At the knowledge that his brother was back for good. Though the smile soon left to be replaced by a frown when he saw the look of intense concertation on his brother's face. "Hey guys. What are you up to?" He asked moving into the room and making his presence known to both the angels there.

"I am trying to teach Dean to shield his thoughts. It is not working well." Castiel replied looking away from Dean and turning to smile at the younger Winchester. It seemed he had finally gotten a good night's sleep, something he knew Sam had not since Dean's death.

"Hey." Dean shouted in indignation at Cas' words. He was trying his best here alright? It just wasn't that easy.

"Though there has been a modicum of improvement." Castiel conceded, though Dean wasn't sure if he truly meant those words or if he was just placating him.

"Right, well I'll leave you two to that then. I need breakfast." Sam replied chuckling under his breath at the conversation between his brother and his best friend. It was so much like it had always been, it made him feel as if finally everything was as it should be. Dean was back and that was all he needed.

"No Sammy, I'll cook. I may not need to eat, but I can still make my baby brothers breakfast. You go wake Meg, and everyone." Dean responded standing from the table and moving towards the kitchen without waiting for Sam to respond. He knew his brother wouldn't say no after all.

"Okay." Sam agreed before turning back towards the sleeping quarters, aiming towards Meg's room to wake her and see how her night had been.

"I do believe Meg was right. You are trying to play matchmaker between her and your brother." Castiel said quietly as he followed Dean into the kitchen, a smirk on his lips as he said the words.

"I don't know what you're talking about, Cas." Dean replied refusing to look the other angel in the eyes. He wasn't trying to set them up, but hey if something happened between them he wasn't going to stand in the way. They both needed someone, so why not let them have each other? Sammy could finally have the family he was always supposed to have.

"Dean, I can hear every thought you have." Castiel said with a dry chuckle. Dean could deny it out loud all he wanted, but Castiel would always know the truth.

"Shut up, Cas, and get out the eggs and bacon." Dean grumbled in reply. I mean there wasn't much else he could say to that now was there?

"Of course, Dean." Castiel agreed moving around the kitchen with ease finding all that Dean required him to collect.

With that Dean moved to start cooking his family breakfast. And standing there in the kitchen mixing the eggs while watching over the bacon it suddenly hit him. That while becoming an angel changed everything he'd ever known, changed every plan he ever had for his life, the truth was it changed nothing at all. Because he still had his family and his best friend. There really was nothing else he needed. Whatever the future would bring would come, but for now he was just Dean Winchester, cooking breakfast for those he loved while the supernatural world was at peace. And that was all he ever wanted.

THE END

So that's it. It's all over now. I want to again thank you all for reading this story and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. So farewell, bitches. Peace out.
