Haley didn't say anything for a few moments. Finally she just shrugged, "Whatever."
"W-whatever?! Haley he tried to murder you!" Susan said in disbelief.
She shrugged again, "He's not the first person who's tried."
"Haley, would you be willing to give me a pensive memory of that day so I can arrest Lucius?"
"I have no idea what you just said…"
Amelia smiled slightly before explaining, "I use a spell to copy the memory and if we put it in something called a pensive we can see what happened. It's kind of like how a VCR showed what's on the VHS."
Haley nodded, "Alright."
Amelia drew her wand and gently placed it to Haley's head. "Alright, I just need you to focus on the conversation with Lucius. From the moment he entered Albus' office to the point Dobby knocked him down the stairs. Alright?"
Haley nodded and closed her eyes as she focused on the memory. The moment they finished Amelia walked over to a cabinet and opened it revealing what looked like a fancy bird bath.
Haley watched as she saw Amelia dunk her head into the liquid. After a minute she looked over to Susan worried. When Susan noticed the worried expression on Haley's face she gave her a small smile, "Don't worry, she won't drowned. It just takes a while because you see it as fast as it happened."
Haley nodded her acceptance of that answer and turned back to Amelia. It took almost another ten minutes for her to surface from the bird bath.
"Well?" Susan asked.
"Will the two of you be able to take care of yourselves for a couple hours? I believe it is about time for Lucius to get comfortable in Azkaban."
The two of them nodded and Amelia gave them each a quick hug before rushing through the floo.
When Amelia arrived at the Auror Department Kingsley greeted her, "Madam Bones, I thought you were off. Has something happened?"
"Yes, collect Auror's Smith, Jones, and Tonks immediately," Amelia ordered before rushing to a co-workers desk. "Demi, I need an arrest warrant."
Demi pulled one out of the drawer, "Charges?"
"Attempted murder of a minor and giving a minor a curses item resulting in said child being possessed, forcing her to attack others, and almost ending her life in an attempt to bring back the dark lord."
Demi gasped, "Amelia! These are very serious charges! What evidence…"
"I have an authentic pensive memory from one of the victims. I am positive that when questioned under Veritaserum he will confess to all charges and likely even more. I will bet my career on it."
"Who is the suspect?"
"Lucius Malfoy."
Demi's mouth fell open. When she was able to control herself again she finished filling out the form and stated, "You will be betting your career on it. If you're wrong Fudge will fire you."
"That's why I want this done before Fudge get wind of it. Get a trial ready and only tell Fudge that he is needed in the courtroom. He'll think he just forgot about a trial again and won't have time to tamper with any of the jury members."
"Alright but what are you going to do about the jury? You know a lot of them are close to them Malfoy's. How will you convince them?"
"The memory came from Haley Potter. I think they'll be pretty pissed at Malfoy when they learned he tried to use the killing curse on their saviour," Amelia stated as she grabbed the warrant from Demi and signed it. She then rushed over to the four Aurors awaiting her.
"Kingsley, sign this," Amelia said handing it over and Kingsley signed without a second thought. "Does anyone know if Lucius Malfoy is working today?"
"Yeah," Tonks piped up, "I saw him in the cafeteria at lunch. He was complaining, very loudly, to anyone that would listen that he had to spend the whole morning with Arthur going through the misuse of muggle artifacts budget. He told Rita Skeeter that he would be in his office the rest of the day if she wanted to get some dirt on the Weasley family." Tonks finished her story with a growl.
"Thank you, Auror Tonks. We need arrest him and have an immediate trail. As I am off duty and therefore unable to arrest him the four of you must. I am positive he is guilty of attempted murder of a minor and giving a minor a curses item resulting in the child being possessed and forcing her to attack others. It also nearly ended her life," Amelia stated.
Kingsley nodded, "We'll have a trail ready in an hour. I assume Demi's filling out the paperwork as we speak?"
Amelia nodded, "And keep this as quiet as possible. Floo straight to his office and then floo his straight to the holding cells so no one sees you. I'm going to collect parents of the victim."
Amelia walked as quickly as she could to the elevators and rode it down to the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office smiling slightly to herself. Amelia always loved it here. Although Amelia was a pureblood she had taken Muggle Studies and was one of the few people that found it truly interesting. It was the only class that Amelia and Arthur shared together as he was a Gryffindor and she was a Ravenclaw but for assignments they always partnered up because they were the only ones that took the class seriously.
Looking around the office always brought her back to their carefree days at Hogwarts.
Amelia was drawn out of her reminiscing when she heard a familiar voice call her name.
"Amelia, what are you doing here? Is something wrong with Haley?"
"No, Arthur, it's something else. Would you please call Molly here? It's important. It may also take a couple hours so she should have someone watch the kids."
Arthur nodded, "Have a seat. I'll be right back."
Amelia settled herself in a chair as she listened to Arthur call his wife.
"Molly, Amelia's here… No she said nothing's wrong with Haley but it sounds important… Yes, she needs to speak with both of us… Well you could put Percy in charge, I guess…"
Amelia drowned out the conversation as she inspected Arthur's desk. She picked up a frame on the edge of the desk and gazed at the picture inside.
She smiled at the large family waving at her. It must have been Christmas because they were all wearing Molly's hand knitted jumpers and there was a large tree in the background decorated with candles. She couldn't help it when her mind drifted to Haley. She had never had any memories like this and although she would treat her as if she was her own daughter Haley may never see her as a mother figure or Susan as a sister. Haley may never have a family.
She set the frame back on the desk when the fireplace roared announcing Molly's arrival.
Amelia stood to greet Molly.
"Amelia, is everything alright?" Molly asked slightly panicked.
Amelia nodded, "I believe you both should sit down for this." Molly sat in the chair next to her and Arthur sat opposite to them across his desk.
"Now, what is this about Amelia?"
"It's about the chamber of secrets."
Molly filched slightly at the words. The incident made her almost lose two of her own children plus Haley. Ron and Ginny had been having problems sleeping ever since, however Ron's nightmare consisted more of giant talking spiders.
"What about it?" Arthur quizzed tensely.
"Haley confessed that she knew who gave Ginny the diary and when. He also tried to murder Haley she just didn't know it at the time because she couldn't figure out what Avada meant."
"What?! Who was it?!" Molly asked.
"Calm down, Molly," Amelia tried to relax her. "He is being arrested as we speak and his trial will be in…" She was cut off when the patronis of a lynx flew into the room. They all recognized Kingsley's voice as he said, "Madam Bones, the mission was successful. Suspect in custody. Demi's paperwork has been filed. We await further orders."
When the lynx vanished Amelia smiled, "We are having a trial before word get out so no one can tamper with witnesses. I came here because I thought you of all people deserved to be there."
"Thank you, Amelia, but who did this to my daughter?" Arthur asked again.
Amelia sighed, "Lucius Malfoy."
