Something that has always bugged me about Time travel. Its its very simple. Planets move. I thought about writing this for Back to the Future but I didn't want to kill Marty. This is what I think would actually happen if you traveled in time.

Update. I wanted to add in a small mention about Back to the Future. Nothing major. But Marty wouldn't have survived long after arriving in the past.

"Remember Jack, 3000 BC." Daniel said from the copilot's seat.

"Any particular Date?" Jack asked sardonically.

Jack closed his eyes and focused on the year he wanted. The time drive pulsed and everything around them changed. What was the most worrying was that Earth was gone.

"Oh Boy." Sam said in her usual worried voice.

"Sam what just happened?" Jack asked

"Oh No. This is bad."

"Sam?" Daniel.

"I need my computer. I need to check some math."

"Samantha Carter. What has happened."

"Something that I thought the Ancients would have taken into account but apparently didn't. Planets move Jack. In 5,000 years Earth would have been in a very different location in space. The sun moves through space at 45,000 and given that its been 5,000 years. So Earth is roughly 1,971,000,000,000,000 miles from where we are now."

"So what can we do?" Daniel asked

"Nothing. We need to go back to our time, run stellar drift calculations to hopefully locate a gate near our current location. Then, if their is a gate nearby in our present time, we can come back and go to it and gate to Earth."

"Great." Jack said annoyed. "I guess Marty didn't last very long when he went into the past." finished sarcastically. Sam and Daniel chuckled at the very Jack saying.

Sam smiled slightly and said, "No Jack he wouldn't. He would have arrived 17 billion miles away from Earth." Jack closed his eyes and sent the ship 5,000 years back into the future.
