A few weeks had passes since Jamie and Danny had asked Eddie's parents for their blessing. Jamie had just picked the ring up and he, Eddie, Hailey and Spencer were headed up to a fancy bed and breakfast. Spencer had asked Jamie if they would like to do a couples long weekend with them. Jamie had mentioned to Spencer that he wanted to propose to Eddie and he and Spencer agreed that the best time to propose would be with the backdrop of the mountains.
They reached the resort and unloaded their bags. The bell hops put their luggage on the cart and went and packed the car for them. Jamie and Eddie walked in holding hands. They spotted Spencer and Hailey and headed over to them.
"Hey sorry my tour was extended due to some joker trying to make a scene in Time's Square" Eddie said rolling her eyes.
"Typical" Spencer said laughing.
They exchanged their hellos and the bell hops told them their rooms were ready. They headed up to the rooms and got freshened up for dinner.
The following morning was Thursday. They were planning on going on a hike and then a yoga class that the girls wanted to do. Jamie was planning on proposing on Friday, he, Spencer and Hailey were putting the final details on the day. Jamie had put the ring in the safe in Spencer and Hailey's room so Eddie wouldn't find it.
"This place is beautiful" Eddie said.
"It looks even better when covered with snow"
"Yea we're a little to late to ski" Eddie said.
"Next year, they still have fun stuff to do right now"
"I'm excited for this hike tomorrow. No technology, just time to spend together and relax. We both needed it"
"Yea we did, luckily Spencer told us we had no choice but to come" Jamie said laughing.
"Well we better not keep them waiting for dinner" Eddie said looking at the time.
Eddie changed into skinny jeans, a silk shirt and some heels and Jamie put on jeans and a dress shirt.
"How do I look?" Eddie asked.
"Beautiful as always" Jamie said kissing her.
"Should we go meet them for dinner?" Eddie asked
"Yes" Jamie said. He walked over to Eddie and stuck his arm out. Eddie happing took the escort and lined her arm around his.
Eddie and Jamie and Spencer and Hailey were taken to their table. They sat down and were going over their menus.
Spencer could tell that Jamie was getting jittery so he decided to inform everyone one the itinerary for the next day.
"So ladies what are you doing tomorrow?" Spencer asked, looking more at Hailey than Eddie.
"Oh I didn't realize we had separate plans" Eddie said
"Well I was thinking that we could go to yoga, then the spa and then shopping"
"I do like the sound of that" Eddie said smiling
"What are you guys gonna do?" Hailey asked.
"Probably play some basketball, there is a charity tournament tomorrow so we are gonna find a team. I don't think we have anything else planned" Spencer said.
"So are we gonna see you at all tomorrow?" Eddie asked a little disappointed.
She was hoping that they would all be able to spend time and that her and Jamie could spend time together.
"I know you will miss me Officer Eddie" Spencer said laughing.
"We're all gonna have dinner at a fancy restaurant tomorrow that's why we need to go shopping" Hailey said smiling.
"Ok I can do that" Eddie said.
After they finished their dinner they all headed back to their rooms. They were all tired from the drive up and Spencer knew that Jamie needed to at least try to go to sleep or he would end up telling Eddie about he ring. Eddie and Jamie had gotten in bed. Jamie was hoping Eddie hadn't picked up on his antsy behavior, but she wouldn't be the amazing cop that she is if she had missed it.
"Babe what's wrong?" Eddie asked getting under the covers.
"Nothing why?" Jamie asked.
"The last few days and even today when we were up here you've been acting like your hiding something. I feel like I should stop and frisk you" Eddie said laughing
"Nah I'm fine. Work has just been stressful. More responsibility as a Sargent" Jamie said
"You can talk to me you know" Eddie said.
She knew he was stressed so she rolled him over and started to rub his back.
"We left work back at work. It's a work free weekend" Jamie said
"If it's bothering you just talk to me" Eddie said
Jamie rolled back over to face Eddie.
"I'm fine. I'm just tired. You and Hailey destress tomorrow and me and Spencer will win some basketball games and then we will all be relaxed" Jamie said laughing.
"Ok if you say so" Eddie said.
Jamie had rolled over and was spooning Eddie when she rolled over to face him. Eddie propped her head up on her elbow.
"Jamie look at me"
Jamie groaned and looked up at Eddie.
"Janko I'm tired"
"I know, I just want to know what else is bothering you. We promised no secrets" Eddie said
"I promise you I am not keeping any secrets from you. Sarge has been on my back. I know he expects a lot from me since he trained me but I'm still trying to get adjusted"
"Want me to beat him up for you?" Eddie asked with a smirk
"Yea I'd like to see you take on Sarge" Jamie said laughing
"I could out run him" Eddie said laughing
"I love you" Jamie said kissing Eddie.
"What was that for?" Eddie asked kissing him back.
"For being a pain in the ass and for always making sure I'm ok" Jamie said
"Always" Eddie said.
She had started to rub his stomach and he quickly started to fall asleep. Eddie always thought it was funny that all she had to do was rub his tummy like a dog and he was fast asleep.
"Always" Jamie mumbled in his sleep.
The next morning Jamie and Eddie up woke up and got ready to meet Hailey and Spencer. Jamie threw on some basketball shorts, a long sleeve shirt and sneakers and Eddie put on yoga pants, a long sleeve shirt and UGG boots.
They all sat down to breakfast and Eddie decided that she wasn't sure if she wanted pancakes or waffles so Jamie said he would get the others and they could share.
"Don't worry, by the time Eddie is done you will literally have like four bites of both breakfasts" Hailey joked.
"She made you do this too?" Jamie asked.
"Oh of course" Hailey smiled.
"Whatever" Eddie said
They finished their breakfasts and Jamie and Spencer went to play basketball and Eddie and Hailey went shopping first and had their spa appointments.
"So how are you and Jamie doing?" Hailey asked browsing the racks of the fancy boutique.
"Honestly, I don't know. The last few weeks he has been pretty distant and he won't tell me what's wrong. I feel like ever since his family met my mom and I told him about the eating issues, he has pulled back"
"I'm sure that isn't true. Having the families meet can be scary" Hailey said knowing the real reason was that Jamie didn't want to accidently propose to her.
"I guess"
"Eddie look at me" Hailey said
Eddie looked at her.
"Jamie loves you, anyone with eyes can see that. I don't think you have anything to worry about"
"Thanks Hailey"
"Now Spencer gave me his credit card since he just got a promotion and told us to buy a nice dress for tonight, let's not waste anymore time!" Hailey said excitedly.
Eddie just laughed and they got busy shopping.
"You ready man?" Spencer asked.
"To beat you in basketball, always" Jamie said
Spencer just looked at him.
"Yea I think I am. I'm really nervous"
"You chase bag guys for a living and you are scared of a 5ft girl rejecting you?" Spencer asked laughing.
"Hey she can be scary when she needs to be. She chases her own bad guys" Jamie said
"Jamo, you really nervous to ask her?"
"Yea I am. She's my best friend. I can't even imagine what my life was like without her in it. I just hope I'm not rushing anything. I just don't want to freak her out or anything"
"You know Eddie as well as she knows herself. If you didn't think either of you were ready, you wouldn't want to propose"
"Then tell that to my stomach" Jamie said putting a hand to his stomach.
"Nervous tummy?" Spencer asked.
"Yea. I don't get it very often anymore. You can't being a cop but this is scarier than going after any perp"
"Well you and your tummy need to calm down" Spencer said.
Spencer got more serious and then continued.
"I know you are worried that you will mess things up with Eddie. I know you keep thinking about your past but Jamie your past is your past. You are a much different person now, Eddie is a much better human and a much better girl for you. She understands you better than you understand yourself, she gets that you love your job. She gets what it's like to have a known family, although she would rather her dad not be a convicted felon obviously. Jamie if I didn't think Eddie was right for you, I wouldn't support you proposing to her"
"So maybe you did know what you were talking about when you tried telling me not to propose to Sydney"
"If I was the type of person to say I told you so I would"
"You are" Jamie said simply
"I told you so" Spencer said laughing.
Jamie joined in laughing with him and Spencer knew that he had calmed Jamie down at least for a little.
They played some one-on-one and Jamie started to relax.
Eddie and Hailey tried on dresses and they both found ones that they loved.
Eddie picked out a short, royal blue, lace layered sheath dress. Hailey picked out a pink, triangle top sheath dress. They added shoes and some accessories and then headed for yoga class.
"It's so beautiful up here. I don't think I ever want to leave" Eddie said as they walked to the yoga cabin.
"Oh please the city would fall apart without you chasing those bad guys" Hailey said laughing.
"I do love my job" Eddie said laughing.
"Ready?" Eddie asked as they walked into the studio.
"Of course" Hailey said.
Spencer and Jamie had decided to take a water break. Spencer sat on the beach but Jamie on the other hand paced around the court.
"Dude?"
"I just can't sit still. This isn't like me" Jamie said still pacing.
"Sit and take a drink" Spencer said.
Jamie listened and sat down and took some sips of his water.
"I was thinking while we were playing" Jamie said.
"That's never good" Spencer said laughing
Jamie just shot him a look.
"Alright Jamo what is it?"
"I don't want to wait till dinner tonight. All dressed up in fancy clothes and stuff. That isn't us. Eddie, she's, she's natural and beautiful and I decided I want to propose on the deck overlooking the trees and lake. That just seems more us than in a restaurant with stuffy clothes on" Jamie said.
"So we should head back and shower first. We can meet them for lunch or something and then me and Hailey will take a walk but still secretly take pictures for you" Spencer said.
"I don't even know what just came out of your mouth" Jamie said laughing
"Well you are too nervous to think" Spencer said.
Spencer had texted Hailey and informed her of the change of plans. Hailey had insisted that they would need to give them some time to get their nails done and their massage. Spencer said he would try and hold Jamie off for as long as he could. Hailey heard her phone keep going off and when she saw an urgent message from Spencer she snuck off to the bathroom. She told him that they would get their nails done and a quick massage and then meet them at the deck.
"Oww, oww" Hailey said holding her leg.
"Hail, what's wrong?" Eddie asked.
"I think I pulled a muscle" Hailey said sitting down.
Eddie gathered their stuff and they tried to leave as quietly as they possibly could. Eddie was carrying their bags and Hailey was partly leaning on Eddie. Once they got outside, Eddie called for a golf cart to take them to the main lobby of their hotel so they could go up to their room and get showered.
"I told you to stretch more, you have ditched yoga the last few times" Eddie said
"I know, I know" Hailey said trying not to laugh.
"Want me to call Spencer and Jamie?" Eddie asked still concerned.
"No why don't we go take a shower and then go get our nails done and get our massage. I think that it will help a lot" Hailey said.
"Ok. I will need lunch at some point" Eddie said
"Oh of course" Hailey said
Once they hit their floor, Eddie got Hailey into her room and then headed over to her room.
Eddie got showered, blow dried her hair into her natural curl and changed into skinny jeans, a light blue sweater and navy and light blue plaid vest. Hailey happily walked around her room happy to not have to pretend to have an injured muscle for a little. She showered and changed into jeans, a long sleeve shirt and a heavy, long cardigan sweater.
They headed over to the spa area. Hailey said she was fine to walk but Eddie insisted that they ask for the golf cart.
They were taken to their own massage rooms for their half hour massage.
They had originally planned for a longer one but after Jamie changed his mind, they had to re-adjust their schedule.
After their massages, they went to the nail salon section and choose their colors. They both chose colors that went with their dresses. Hailey had texted Spencer to tell him that they wouldn't be too much longer and that they would meet them over by the deck.
Spencer and Jamie had gone back to their rooms to get ready.
Jamie had decided on jeans, a long sleeve thermal shirt and a half zip sweatshirt. Spencer showered and changed and grabbed the ring out of the safe and knocked on Jamie's door.
Jamie answered the door and his eyes immediately went to the small velvet box in Spencer's hands.
"You ready" Spencer asked.
Jamie didn't say anything but he just smiled.
"Want to go grab a drink before we head to the deck?" Spencer asked
"No I want to be completely sober when I ask her" Jamie said
"Are you nervous?" Spencer asked.
"I'm not nervous because I have doubts, I'm nervous because I'm afraid of scaring her. I know she loves me but it's still a big step"
"I understand. But I think she will say yes. I'm getting a little nervous too" Spencer said
"Why?" Jamie asked
"Because I don't want you to trip and fall or forget her name or"
"Ok enough, jeez I'm not that bad" Jamie said laughing
"Sometimes" Spencer said laughing
They walked out of the room and headed down stairs to the deck.
"I'm proud of you man" Spencer said clapping his friend on the back.
"Thanks, and thanks for all your help Spence" Jamie said
"Anytime. It takes a village to marry you off"
"Funny coming from the dating guy"
"I'm very happy with Hailey, but it is still too early in our relationship"
"I know" Jamie said.
Hailey and Eddie had their pedicures and were drying their manicures when Eddie spoke up.
"You know what. I don't care what is going on in Jamie's mind. I am going to tell him how much I love him and how I feel. His feelings can differ but I want him to know how much he means to me and how much I love him and how much I need him. I've never felt this way about any guy before" Eddie said
"I know sweetie. I don't think Jamie wants to break up with you. He is head over heels in love with you. You said yourself that he has been a little stressed with work and the promotion. Maybe he just needed a day kicking Spencer's ass in basketball. Now why don't we go meet up with them on the deck. I know the guys wanted to go for a walk"
"How will you walk?" Eddie asked.
"Spencer can give me a piggy back ride"
They walked over to the deck and saw Spencer and Jamie sitting there.
They all said their hellos again.
"Hail how are you feeling?" Spencer asked with genuine concern.
"Spence said you pulled a muscle?" Jamie asked also concerned.
"Yea she didn't stretch enough like I told her too" Eddie said
"Well aren't you the little yoga goddess" Jamie said kissing Eddie
"I don't think Hailey should walk on her leg. I think we are just gonna sit here and you guys go ahead" Spencer said.
Jamie and Eddie both nodded. Jamie could no longer feel nervous butterflies in his stomach but excited ones.
They walked to a secluded part of the deck and Eddie started to talk.
"Jamie, I love and I think you love me too. But you have been acting so strange lately. I'd never thought I'd have to ask this but are you cheating on me, are you gonna dump me, do you not love me anymore?" Eddie asked.
Jamie just looked up at her and smiled and took her hand in his and started to walk again. He and Spencer had picked out the perfect spot for him to propose. Spencer and even set up some decoys to take pictures.
"Eddie I love you. I love you more than I can ever put into words" Jamie said.
He turned Eddie around and took a deep breath. He got down on one knee, and took both of Eddie's hands in his. Eddie immediately gasped.
"Edit Janko, I've have loved you a little more every day since the night we met. I have never felt the mix of nerves and frustration and most importantly love and excitement that I do with you. I have loved all the days we have spent together and I want to spend the rest of my days with you. Eddie Janko will you marry me?" Jamie asked as he opened the box.
Eddie's eyes began to well up and her hands flew to her mouth. She had the biggest smile on her face and there was no concealing her answer.
"Yes of course!" Eddie said happily and excitedly through happy tears.
Jamie hadn't realized that he had his own happy tears in his eyes until Eddie put a hand on the side of his face.
He picked her up and spun her around and kissed her. Everyone around them began to clap and cheer and Eddie and Jamie both felt like they were on top of the world.
Jamie wiped Eddie's stray tears with the pad of his thumb. He was still hugging Eddie when Spencer and Hailey started walking over. He nodded so they kept walking towards them.
Hailey came running over jumping up and down and Spencer followed her.
"Congratulations!" They both yelled happily as they hugged each other.
"Thank you both so much for helping me" Jamie said hugging both of them.
"Of course" They both said nodding.
"You knew!?" Eddie asked Hailey
"Why do you think I changed out plans today. Jamie changed his so we had to get out of yoga early so I faked an injury"
"Well I'm glad you are ok. Why did you change plans?" Eddie asked.
"I couldn't wait any longer. I wanted to be with you and see you but I knew I couldn't keep it a secret any longer" Jamie said
Eddie started to tear up again and Jamie just pulled her close to him.
"Let's take some more pictures and then head up to get ready for dinner" Spencer said
They all nodded. Spencer and Hailey took more pictures and then they had someone take some of the four of them.
"How about the boys get ready in one room and the girls get ready in another" Hailey suggested
They all agreed and went and got ready for the night.
After a fun night out, Spencer and Hailey went back to their room and Jamie and Eddie went to theirs.
Jamie noticed that every time Eddie looked at her hand she smiled.
"You like it?" Jamie asked and he crawled into bed next to her.
"I love it, it's absolutely beautiful"
"I took the stones out of my grandmother Betty's ring and my mom's ring. I wanted it to have part of my family in it, but also something new that I knew was you"
"You know how little girls always dream up the 'perfect ring'?" Eddie asked.
Jamie just nodded and waited for her to continue.
"Mine never came close to this. I don't know how you did it" Eddie said.
"I will admit I had some help. Danny and I really bonded over me getting ready to propose to you and then of course Spencer and Hailey were a big help"
"You blew my mind. It was beautiful how you did it too"
"I didn't want to make you cry" Jamie said
"It was happy tears, they are the best kind. I was surprised you teared up" Eddie said poking his stomach
"I was too. I never thought I would but the whole thing was just how I was hoping it would go and I was just overcome with emotion as you would say" Jamie said
"It only makes me more attracted to you even if you had other plans to propose" Eddie said
"I was originally going to do it tonight. I know you like getting dressed up but I don't always like being in a monkey suit. I figured I would do it at dinner but I didn't think that the restaurant was as romantic"
"No I love how you did it. The background views were breath taking. The mountains and the lake, I loved it" Eddie said still gushing.
"I thought it was more us. I also want to apologize for acting all weird the last few weeks and especially the last few days. I just wanted to propose to you but I wanted it to be perfect and special. I had to watch what I was saying and doing so I wouldn't give it away. I never meant to hurt you in the process, I was trying to play it cool" Jamie said
"Haha you played it too cool. I was just worried something was up or something was wrong" Eddie said.
"Yea now that I look back on it, I realized I probably had you freaked out"
"Just a little" Eddie said kissing him
Jamie kissed her back and grabbed her hand. Eddie happily laced her fingers.
"It was absolutely perfect. I loved the whole thing but most importantly I love you" Eddie said.
"I love you too" Jamie said.
Eddie rolled into Jamie and they both drifted off to sleep embraced in each other.
