Chapter 19: The Battles of the Dimensions

Spike's Perspective

Rainbow Dash says we need to keep the Changelings distracted while the heroes stop the evil in the Crystal Castle. Well we intend to do just that. I notice Rainbow Dash look worried after scanning the area.

"Something wrong Dash?"

"This is the most dangerous thing everypony has to do. Yoshi makes a terrible general, and he isn't even here! I'd like to punch that overgrown lizard into his big, fat, green nose." Dash grumbled in anger.

"Well, I hope he knows what he's putting at risk."

"I don't think he does." Dash blew her mane out of her face. "I just don't trust Yoshi the way everypony else does."

"I have faith in him." I knew if his plan works, Equestria and the Mushroom Kingdom will be whole again.

"One can only hope for the best," Rarity replied.

And within minutes of running to the Crystal Castle, we see the Changelings flying towards all of us. This was it! We have one chance to keep the Changelings distracted.

"Separate!" I yelled to the ponies. "Run, fly, anything! Do not let the Changelinggs catch you. And Pinkie," I turn to her, "it's like a giant game of tag."

And in seconds, all mayhem broke out, and Pegasi flew everywhere, stampedes in every direction. Good luck if the Changelings can catch us all.

Mario's Perspective

After walking down these halls for what feels like hours without end, we reached the armory of the Crystal Castle. And sure enough, the great King Bowser stood before us. He was armed with his staff, as well as a battle axe and a long pointy spear.

"Well, glad to see I've brought you all in the same place. Yoshi, you're still alive."

I turned to my companion, "Still alive?" When I noticed a bandaged shoulder and Yoshi simply mouths, "Lightning," I knew Bowser's staff did that damage.

Bowser steps toward us, pointing the spear at my heart, "Now I will not have you step in my way again, Mario. You caused too much trouble, for a pony."

Luigi stepped between us and swung his mace in the direction of Bowser's spear.

"If you mess with my brother, you mess with all of us."

Then Bowser glimpsed at Luigi then to me.

"Fine. I'll destroy you all. This is the end for you, Mario Bros. and Yoshi."

Yoshi started walking to Bowser and with the pipe in his hands he swung the spear out of our way and Bowser began stepping back. The two began clashing the spear and pipe together like a bo staff brawl. When Bowser kicked Yoshi back into a wall, Luigi ran flailing his mace and with a mighty swing of his axe, the chain that attached the mace, shattered. Luigi didn't stop though, until he threw what was left of the mace at Bowser's mug. And while holding the sword in my human hand, I started recklessly swinging at Bowser's spear, slowly chipping at the wood near the shaft of the spear. When Bowser swung the back of his meaty fist across my face and knocking me to the ground, I see Luigi yank a sword out of the hand of a suit of armor and run to Bowser from behind. And the sword and axe clashed with metallic bangs, Bowser was slowly backing into a corner.

"Impressive, Luigi. But foolish." Bowser began spitting fire at Luigi's blade as a distraction and started backing Luigi away and swinging more with his axe. Yoshi from behind grabbed Bowser's spear off the floor and tossed it in my direction, but before I could catch it, it landed in Bowser's hand. He looked to Yoshi menacingly before Luigi swings his sword, cutting the shaft of the spear right off. It was no more than a wooden stick with an end sharpened and broken. He took the broken spear as another opportunity to attack. With his tongue, Yoshi grabbed the shaft of the spear in his hand, and with the other, spun his metal pipe rapidly in circles.

"You wanna dance, Bowser? Then let's dance." Yoshi and Bowser walked to each other until their weapons clashed in the center of the room.

Twilight Sparkle's Perspective

Me, Celestia, and Luna have cornered Queen Chrysalis in her own throne room.

"It is over Queen Chrysalis. You have nowhere to run." Celestia stood pointing her horn in her direction.

"Who said I needed it run?" Chrysalis's pointed her horn toward Clelestia and a magic duel began.

Magic flew in the air with each strike and they seemed almost equally matched, from beams of energy, to small shields, until Chrysalis began using force by shooting Celestia back into a wall, launching her outside the throne room, and creating another of of her almost indestructible barriers between her and the rest of us. She tried with much effort to break the wall but no luck; the wall wouldn't budge. Luna charged to Chrysalis but instead of magic, they began clashing their horns. The sparring seemed endless until Chrysalis swung one of her hooves across Luna's temple and with magic shoved her through the barrier, joined with Celestia. I looked at the two Princesses and I knew what was coming next. I had to face the evil Queen Chrysalis alone.

Princess Peach's Perspective

The Toads, Yoshis, and Koopas all fought mercilessly against each other. Many Toad spears and Koopa swords clanged banged against one another.

"Worry not Your Highness," Toadsworth said next to me. "The Toads and Yoshis are brave soldiers."

The commotion soon died down when a giant Air Koopa brand plane flew overhead and dropped multiple Paratroopas, easily outnumbering the Toads and Yoshis. One by one, a Toad began to surrender, Yoshis began raising their arms in surrender. Koopas began surrounding and rounding up my citizens and the Yoshis. Toadsworth spoke through a waltkie talkie to a Toad officer below.

"Put down your weapons. They win this round. Surrender and your lives will be spared."

Just after, many Toads dropped their spears, swords, and shields, Yoshis dropped their pickaxes and were overwhelmed by the Paratroopas. Four Paratroopas with Bullet Bill cannons charged in the room behind us and Toadsworth slowly turned, raising his hands in the air.

"Hands up Princess Peach. Your little uprising stops here." One Koopa raised a spear and I had no choice but to surrender to the Koopa Grand army.

Spike's Perspective

It seemed we've been running around for hours on end. Few ponies began running out of breath and Changelings began tackling numerous ponies. Within minutes, more Changelings arrived and began overwhelming small groups of ponies. The lots of ponies started being consumed by the arrays of Changelings. We were outmatched, outnumbered, and out of breath. We served our purpose in the war. Hopefully the diversion has lasted long enough to keep the Changelings away from the Crystal Castle.

"This is it, Rarity. Don't worry about the Changelings. I have one more plan. I need you to launch me in the air for Rainbow Dash to catch me and try flying off. As one final distraction."

"Yes Spike."

Rarity immediately kicked me up in the air and sure enough, Rainbow Dash caught me and began flying toward Ponyville, in an attempt to keep the Changelings further from the Crystal Empire. Swarms up Changelings dropped around us and fenced us in at every direction.

Luigi's Perspective

Yoshi And Bowser have been at each other with a pipe and spear stick, even when Bowser smacked the shaft of the spear out of Yoshi's hand and when Yoshi jumped over Bowser's head and kicked him in the nape of his fat neck. Me and Mario charged simultaneously with our swords and Bowser turned to smack us both with his tail into a wall, knocking the swords out of our hands. He turned his attention back to Yoshi who almost had the upper hand, by backing away, slowly, swinging his pipe mercilessly at Bowser's spear.

"Mario this is insane." I turned to my older brother.

"Yoshi is agile. Bowser is a brute. But this fight should end shortly. Our reptilian friend will triumph."

Bowser had almost had enough, spitting fire at almost every surface that Yoshi was, the dinosaur hopping all over the room, swiping his pipe near Bowser, and landing on the floor again. The King of Koopas stopped, gave a deadly snarl, and started proceeding with almost unpredictable counterattacks, such as kicking Yoshi in the nose, dropping the pipe from his hand, forcing him back, and Bowser sending the pointed end of the spear through Yoshi's abdomen. Yoshi's eyes fixated on the spear that pierced his stomach and as Bowser let go of the spear, he fell backward onto the floor of the armory, gasping.

Twilight Sparkle's Perspective

I began using the best spells and magic techniques I had against Queen Chrysalis. But I was never trained or told to use my magic, my power, my abilities in combat.

"What's wrong Twilight Sparkle? Not as powerful as Princess Celestia said you were in that old "prophecy?"" She began cackling.

What she said threw me into such an anger that I lost concentration in keeping calm and using my magic for good, but with enough anger and focus to use enough powerful magic to almost overwhelm the Queen, backing her into a wall.

"The prophecy is true. I am powerful. More powerful than you, Queen Chrysalis."

Queen Chrysalis began hiding behind her throne and decided to use the worst weapon a villain could use. Manipulation.

"Yes, but what about your dear Yoshi? What say does he have in both your little romances? Do you know where he is now?"

All my focus had left and I actually stopped. "What did you say?"

"Do you know where Yoshi is now?"

What she was saying, I couldn't believe I let my guard down. "He- He's off fighting Bowser. And when he comes back-"

"He won't." She began chuckling and with magic, showed me the armory, where Yoshi, the Mario Bros., and Bowser met. "Here they are minutes ago. The fight has just begun."

"And?" I worried she was on to something. And we was, when she changed the image next, tears began to sting in my eyes and dropped down my cheeks.

"Here he is now." She laughs when the image shows Bowser run his spear through poor Yoshi's stomach. "Still think the prophecy will be fulfilled? He'll be dead before you can reach him."

I am internally crushed by what I see. I know I can't do anything now but try not to lose him. I don't want to lose him.

Luigi's Perspective

Mario had lost his temper against Bowser! He screamed in such a loud shrill cry of anger, sadness, and inner rage, getting up and swinging his sword, running around Bowser, who only just picked up his battle axe, and began slicing the spikes off of Bowser's big shell on his back. I got up to join him in the battle and Bowser caught both of us in a stalemate, grasping Mario by the neck and tossing him in a suit of armor. And slapping me across the chest with his tail, dropping the sword from my hand.

"At last, the Mario Bros. are no more." He said holding the axe near my head.

My attention was drawn to Mario, slowly crawling toward Bowser's staff, left unattended, picking it up, and opening the top of his staff.

A sudden whirlwind of dark energy swirled across the room and eventually surrounded Bowser and immobilizing him. We couldn't hear his screams as the swirling wind was louder than his own voice.

"What is happening?"

Zecora's Perspective

I needed help from Fluttershy because her calm, sweet, innocent nature, was enough to help create a way to stop the Changelings in their tracks. Yoshi and Twilight Sparkle will save our worlds but with Fluttershy's nature, we can simply rid Equestria of the Changelings. They cannot survive massive amounts of positive successfully creating this cure for Changeling existence, I walked outside with the whole cauldron and sprayed enough of it in the air to spread across Equestria in no time flat.

"Perfect, now it will not be long. The Changelings are soon to be gone."

Spike's Perspective

The Changelings all stopped moving and fell to the ground all at once. It was like a plague had taken over all the Changelings instead of everyone else. The Changelings disappeared from existence once they hit the ground. All the ponies around started to celebrate and whoop in excitement.

"To the Crystal Castle!" I yelled in excitement.

All the ponies were then heading in the direction of the Crystal Empire.

Twilight Sparkle's Perspective

Queen Chrysalis started to scream and her hooves began disappearing into dust. All I could do was watch as she started disintegrated and her shrill cries were futile. In seconds of pain and agony, Queen Chrysalis was gone. I turned to Celestia and Luna and the wall disintegrated. I ran right past them, tears still in my eyes, straight to the armory.

Princess Peach's Perspective

All the Koopas stopped moving, looking around, and staring upward like they all forgot what they were doing. Suddenly the sky broken up into a dimensional portal and Koopas started falling not down, but up. Up into the portal along with their weapons and all the troops. Strangely enough only they were affected by this upward gravitational pull. They all disappeared into the portal and nothing of the Koopa Grand Army was left behind.

"Well, how did that happen?" Toadsworth climbed up over a block of rubble.

I gasp in joy, knowing which heroes were responsible for this.

"They did it. They survived and stopped the Koopas."

"Mario Bros.?" Toadsworth cleaned his specs.

"Yes. I think I know where they are."

Mario's Perspective

I was holding tightly, all my strength in holding the staff in place as Bowser stood in a whirlwind screaming for his life. A portal opens and millions of Koopas float in the air. Screams surround the room. And all the Koopas began getting sucked into the staff in seconds. Bowser was picked up by the centrifugal force and along with the Koopa Army, was sucked into the staff, his screams echoing in the staff. After all the Koopas are gone, the whirlwind disappears back into the staff, along with all the lives of the Koopas, including their King.

I put the cap back on the staff and looked at Luigi, who had fully become human again. I looked at myself and saw my body transform back too. And then the whole room returned to normal. Just then, Twilight ran into the room over to Yoshi, tears down her face.

"Yoshi? Yoshi, are you all right?" She picked up his torso with her hooves.

Yoshi opened his eyes, "Tw-ilight? Is that y-ou?"

"Yes it's me. Please look at me. You're going to be fine." She nervously began stroking his head.

Yoshi began gasping, struggling to stay alive. Luigi and I walked up to him for support, then looked to Princess Celestia. "Can we save him?"

Celestia shook her head. "No. I am powerful but I can't stop the people I care about from dying."

Twilight began to cry. "I won't lose you Yoshi. I can't lose you. I- I-" She wiped the tears from her eyes and cleared her throat, "I love you." She pressed her head gently against his nose and weeped more.

"I- I- lo-" Yoshi tried to speak. Twilight silenced him with a kiss. I turned to Luigi who looked outside.

"Hey, the dimensional wall is splitting." He pointed at a part of the sky. Beams of purple and green light burst from above the Crystal Castle and the walls that separated the Mushroom Kingdom and Equestira started dissolving and ponies outside started running toward the castle. I looked back to Twilight and Yoshi, Twilight looks back at Yoshi with a smile.

"We did it. We saved our worlds." She hugged him tightly.

Yoshi started gasping for air and laid back on the ground.

Twilight began crying again. "No. No no. You can't die."

Yoshi's head hit the floor, his eyes fluttered shut and his chest fell, one last time. Twilight held his head against hers and cried silently. The true hero, the savior of both the Mushroom Kingdom and Equestria, Yoshi, was dead.

Spike's Perspective

All the ponies crowded the entrance of the Crystal Castle. When everyone came out, everypony was in shock. Mario and Luigi had come out with their hats in their hands and everyone's head was down, as if in grief. And then we saw what happened. They brought out an old wagon, and on that wagon, there it was, everypony laid their head down in sadness when he came out. They had Yoshi's body on that wagon. He was dead. But how? Many ponies began weeping. Applejack held her hat off her head and Rarity started bawling. Everypony then started heading to Ponyville, and I think I knew what was going to happen next. The funeral of our savior, Yoshi.
