''HUFFLEPUFF'' The hat shouted out the hat was taken off my head and I was directed to the table that was cheering the loudest, Hufflepuff's are Loyal I remember Professor Longbottom saying that before the sorting began

I sat down next to Alice and a boy with blonde hair and blue eyes I think his name was Nigel but I wasn't sure, Alice was chatting away happily with a brown haired girl who was siting across from her, I heard the clinking of a glass and soon the great hall quieted down and began to face the front of the great hall

''Before the feast begins I would like to welcome back old students and welcome new students also Filch are caretaker would like me to remind you that students should not enter the forbidden forest unless they want to die a painful death also there is a lift of forbidden places on the door of filch offices I would advise you check the sheet during your own time, now on with the feast!'' The stern looking woman declared, just than a variety of foods appeared on the table people began to dig in

I looked across the table at all the different kinds of food, some of the foods were ones I had never heard of while some were one's that I had seen at home I grabbed a chicken leg and 2 slices of bread, Alice had a variety of foods on her plate and so did the boy my plate seemed empty but for me It was enough and Jane mentioned there was dessert so I did not want to be stuffed

''Your Al's cousin right?" Alice asked she had a soft voice It was very pleasant to hear, I thought about It for a second his father was my father's cousin so It would not make us first cousins

''Sort of'' I replied lightly mum had said I needed to work on speaking louder

''Cool, I'm sort of there cousin too'' She said kindly, I nodded not knowing what else to say I was never good at conversation like Daisy was Daisy I tried to imagine what she was doing right now, probably having dinner with mum and dad or trying to figure out how to braid here hair (she's been trying for days)

''This is Nigel'' Alice said breaking me out of my thoughts she was pointing at the boy with blonde hair and blue eyes he was stuffing his face with variety's of food

''Nice...To...Meet...You'' He said in between chews, food was dripping out of his mouth and I was doing my best not to look disgusted but I most certainly was very disgusted, Alice didn't seem to be hiding her disgust

''Your disgusting Nigel'' She said with a look of pure disgust, Nigel muttered an excuse but I couldn't hear him over all the chewing, I took a bit of the chicken and couldn't help the small moan that left my lips the chicken was delicious better than my mum's (don't tell her that) I took another bite and soon after than I finished the chicken, I ate the two slices of bread about time when everyone else was finishing there food once everyone was done there food all the plates and food disappeared and was replaced with a variety of sweets and pastries, people began clawing for the sweets and pastries, I looked at the variety of pastries and decided to finally grab a mini chocolate cake pastry and a cauldron cake that Alice recommended

The cauldron cake was delicious and I find myself trying to get my hand on more but sadly I was to late they were all gone I grabbed another mini chocolate cake pastry that were quite good, after everyone was finished there deserts they had the Prefects to show us to are common room, the Prefects were Theresa Modrall and Adam Braswell, Alice, Nigel and I followed the Prefects down a flight of stairs and past a painting of a bowl of fruit we reached a stack of barrels

''To enter the common room you must the barrels from the bottom than tap the barrels in the middle in the rhythm of Helga Hufflepuff'' Teresa said than Adam demonstrated how to open the door to the Hufflepuff common room, the barrels moved away and revealed a passage way

''The passage way leads to the basement, 10 years ago you used to have to crawl through the passageway but recently It has been redesigned that you may simply walk down, the passage way will lead to the common room'' Adam said, Teresa smiled and beckoned us all to follow her into the passage way, Nigel seemed more than eager to go through the passage way

Alice went before me and I went trailing behind her we reached the common room fairly fast, the common room was round and earthy and had a low ceiling, there were many windows around the common room that looked like they would bring in a lot of light, the common room had a lot of yellow and black decorations

''Adam will show all the boys to there dormitories and I will be showing all the girls to there's" Teresa said, she led us to the back of the common room and there was another stack of barrels

''There's a passage way here to the girls dormitories'' Teresa said and tapped the middle barrel and they all moved away to reveal a door, Teresa beckoned us down the passage way, the nicely lit passage way led us to a hall of many doors

''There are 5 girls a dorm'' Teresa said and pulled out a list, 5 girls were placed into the first dorm

''Alice Longbottom, Kelly Considine, Abagail Froom, Violet Dursley and Mara Tenney in dorm b'' She said and opened a door to a round shaped room with 5 beds, the room was much like the common room except with beds and a bathroom, 2 girls went in and took the beds with there trunks Alice and Mara went in next getting the beds with there trunks I went in last and climbed into my bed that was at the back of the room, next to me was Alice and a girl with blonde hair that Alice had been talking to earlier

''Class's start tomorrow at 8:30, you must be in the great hall for breakfast between 7:30 and 8:00, have a good sleep'' Teresa said with a genuine smile that made her green eyes somehow look nicer, Teresa closed the door turning off the lights behind her I heard her footsteps fade and knew she was gone, I heard chatter coming from the other side of the room, I feel asleep a little while later thinking of Alice, Michelle and Albus and maybe Nigel I already had 3 maybe 4 friends more than I did when I left, this was going to be a good year

I sat in the great hall next to Alice and across from us sat Kelly who Alice had known before Hogwarts, Professor Longbottom was handing out are time tables he had done the Gryffindor's first and than moved on to the Hufflepuff's while another professor took Ravenclaw and Slytherin

''Alice dear!'' Professor Longbottom exclaimed when he reached are table he handed an embarrassed Alice her time table and than gave Kelly her own haven known her before hand through Alice

''What's your name?'' Professor Longbottom asked politely

''Violet Dursley'' I said quietly, he seemed shocked for a moment than looked like he realized something he handed me my time's table and went off to finish the rest of the Hufflepuff's

''We have potions first'' Kelly stated

Thursday: Astronomy 9:00 - 10:30, Free Period 10:45 - 11:45, Lunch 12:00 - 1:30,

Friday: Potions 10:00 - 11:30, Charms 11:45 - 1:15, Lunch 1:30 - 2:30

Alice and Kelly had the same time table as me, today was Monday so we would be starting with Potions at 9 O'clock now being 8 O'clock we had time to finish breakfast and find are way to Potions with Professor Pinkett, I grabbed a piece of toast and a spoon full of eggs I put the eggs on my toast and folded It in half like a sandwich and I also poured myself some orange juice (my favorite kind), I heard the sound of Owls hooting and dozens of Owls started making there way into the great hall they all stopped at different tables to deliver letters to people than I remembered forgetting to send a letter to mum, dad and Daisy, A brown owl stopped in front of Alice she ripped off a piece of her toast and handed It to the owl

''This is Phoebe'' She said pointing to the brown owl It was holding a letter in It's mouth It dropped the letter and flew off with the piece of toast, Alice opened the letter

''It's from my mum, she said she's very happy I got into her house'' Alice said with a huge smile on her face, I nodded and continued to eat my sandwich, a white owl with beautiful yellow eyes flew across are table and stopped in front of me, I looked around me to see If It was a mistake but the owl dropped the letter chewed my crust and left

''Who's It from?'' Kelly asked, I turned over the letter and in neat hand writing It said 'Violet' I opened up the letter and noticed It was from my mum

''My mum'' I said and began to read the letter in my head

Your father and I are so proud! we heard the news from Ginny who got a letter from James during dinner last night, Ginny told us about your house and It seems like a house you would get sorted into, I hope your enjoying yourself at the school and we miss you so much! and Daisy wants a very detailed letter of everything, have a good first day and owl me as soon as you can

I reread the letter 3 times going over every detail I felt bad that James had sent the letter and they did not hear from me, I decided that after all m class's I would send a letter back

''What does It say?'' Kelly asked, I looked up at her she looked sad but hopeful I than noticed that most kids got letters but not Kelly she got nothing

''Mum says she's very proud and that my sister wants a letter with every detail'' I half heartily laughed at what mum had wrote, I looked at Kelly who seemed distant and not moving she than completely changed in seconds

''That's great!'' She said happily and began to munch on a piece of bacon, I turned to Alice who was talking too Mara Tenney, Mara had a round face and full lips and curly brown hair that looked like it could not be tamed

I saw Michelle at the Ravenclaw table she was talking to a boy with black hair she looked my way and waved and smiled, I looked over my times table and noticed when lunch started and finished I could probably meet her in the owlery at 1 like we planned

''Who are you looking at?'' A girl with dark skin and brown eyes asked me I knew she was from my dorm but I couldn't re call her name she seemed to notice this and filled me in

''I'm Abagail Froom, half-blood'' She introduced and stuck her hand out for me to shake, I shook her hand and began to introduce myself

''I'm Violet Dursley, muggle-born'' I said confidently, I remember Harry mentioning that witches and wizards coming from muggle parents are called muggle-borns

''Nice to meet you, now who were you looking at?'' She asked again, she had a curious look on her face as she began to look me up and down

''Michelle she's my friend from Ravenclaw'' I said, Abagail nodded and began to munch on a piece of toast, I noticed that there were about 10 girls in this year and house and about the same amount of boys I began to wonder If they did that on purpose so they could have the right amount of girls and boys, I laughed at my own thought which caught the attention of Kelly

''What you laughing about?'' She asked confused, I wanted to tell her what I was thinking but It sounded stupid in my head so I wonder what It would sound like outside my head

''Nothing'' I mumbled and began to munch on a piece of bacon, Abagail stepped up and so did Mara

''Were going to go get are books anyone want to come?'' Mara asked in a small voice, I looked at my finished plate and decided to join

''Can I come?'' I asked uncertain, Mara smiled very wide

''Of course! come on'' She said and began walking down the aisle between the table, a few other students were walking out of the great hall probably going to get there books too

We made casual conversation on the way to the dorms, Mara talked about her cat Sprinkle and Abagail talked about her family owl, they had asked me about my owl and I told them about her, we made It to the dorms and grabbed our books, I also had the chance to look Mara up and down she had chest length red hair and blue eyes and pale skin she was also very frail and had a natural child glow on her

''I think we need one thousand magical herbs and fungi and what's the other one?'' Mara asked, I pulled out my one thousand magical herbs and fungi text book and my Magical Drafts and Potions text book

''I think It's this one'' I said and showed the black dingy looking text book, Mara went and grabbed her's and Abagail began to pull random text books out of her trunk until she find the dingy text book

''Got It!'' She said excitedly and waved around the text book, I grabbed my two text books and clutched them to my chest and stood up ready to leave the dorms, Mara had her books too and was trying to push down her curly locks, Abagail was just standing up unlike Mara and my text books Abagail's looked slightly torn up and looked to be missing a few pages but she seemed content

''Let's go!'' She said happily but I could see the happy voice was a fake one I knew what happy was like and It wasn't this, she didn't have that natural happiness that was glowing off of Mara

We walked out of the dorms and out of the Hufflepuff common room, the Potions class room was a tad difficult to found but with a 4th year Ravenclaw's help we made It to the classroom with much time to spare, when we got to Potions class there were a few Slytherin's and a few Hufflepuff's, the Slytherin's were sticking to the left which meant the Hufflepuff's were sat on the right, Abagail was sat next to Mara in the last row on the right and I was sat In front of them, I then began to get anxious thinking that Kelly and Alice would sit next to each other and I would be alone which wasn't the case

''Morning'' Albus whispered and took a seat next to me, some Slytherin's were sending me death glare's and the few Hufflepuff's were staring wide eyed at the stranger that entered there side, well not really stranger once the Hufflepuff's recovered they began to whisper about 'The son of the boy who lived' I heard one say 'The one who got his fathers eyes!', I smiled at Albus lightly and greeted him as he did I

''The Slytherin's are staring'' I whispered to him, he looked at me then at the Slytherin table and then he looked back at me and shrugged his shoulders lightly

''Id rather sit with you than the Slytherin's, they were pretty nasty'' He said in a louder voice, I didn't know much about Albus Serveus but I did know he was polite and shy he reminded me of me and I liked It, plus I had never had any cousin's until a month ago and am quite happy with the outcome, thank you very much

The rest of the Slytherin's and Hufflepuff's shuffled into the classroom, Nigel and a dark skinned boy ran into the classroom once everyone was sat down opening there books, once everyone was seated (one Hufflepuff retreated to the Slytherin side to meet his friend), a very old man walked in the class room and down the aisle opening each curtain as he passed It the room was soon lit up with sun light, there were a few groans but everyone calmed down after a few seconds

The professor was bald with light skin and gooseberry eyes and was around 5 foot and he had quite the belly, he had a wide smile on his face and a child's glint in his eyes, he did a once over of Albus before addressing the entire clase

''Welcome to Potions!, your my first class today! I'm professor Slughorn and I will be your potions master for your entire career at Hogwarts'' He said, some people began to whisper, Slughorn clapped his hands together before completely changing the topic

''Did you know I aided Harry Potter during the second wizarding war'' He said proudly, some more whispers commenced and I looked over at Albus who was blushing

''Without me the war would not have been won!'' He said confidently before going into a detailed speech about how he aided Uncle Harry (he said I could call him that) during the second wizarding war, a quarter into class he finished his speech and clapped his hand's together

''Look at the person sitting beside you'' He said, I looked at Albus and he looked at me, he smiled than made a goofy face and It brought a smile to my face

''Those will be your potion partners for the duration of the year'' He said delighted, Mara seemed quite happy with the partner ups and so did 90% of the class, I on the other hand was not so thrilled, I had never taken potions before I was probably rubbish! and I would bring Albus's mark down, Slughorn cleared his throat to quiet down the class

''Today we will be working on a cure for boils!, the recipe is in your Magical Drafts and Potions textbook, open to page 21 and for those who don't have a book there are a few in the cupboard over there, all the ingredients are on the table'' He said and pointed to a cupboard at the back of the class Nigel and a black haired Slytherin stood up and went to the cupboard to grab a textbook, people began to open there books so I did the same

''Okay, It says to put 6 snake fangs into the mortar and crush into fine powder using the pestle'' Albus said, he looked around the ingredients before handing me a small brown sack with what I was guessing contained snake fangs, I knew what a mortar and a pestle was because mum used them in the kitchen on occasion

I counted 6 snake fangs then put them into the mortar once they were in I recounted just in case I missed counted the first time, once I recounted them I grabbed the pestle and began to crush It into fine powder, once I finished I showed It to Albus to make sure It was crushed properly, It was

We continued the first part of the potion and spent the 25 minute wait talking about nothing and everything he told me about his cousin's and I told him about my aunt who didn't have any kids but had a 15 year old foster child and also that they lived far away, his family was huge he had many aunts and uncles and cousins, he told me about how smart Rose was and how defiant his 3rd year cousin Molly was and how James was in love with Jane

We finished the potion and Professor Slughorn gave us a grade, at first I didn't understand the grade and for the last five minutes of class Albus explained the grading system, we got Exceeds Expectations and I was quite pleased with the grade and so was Albus who insisted I call him Al

''For Homework I want a ten inch essay on the Forgetfulness Potion, I want It on my desk by Wednesday'' Professor Slughorn informed before dismissing us from class

I dreaded the thought of finishing classes today and staying up all night doing my potions homework
