One should always keep an eye to the sky because surely where there is darkness there is also light. It gets better. Just hang on.

The Epilogue

Jinora found her husband sitting in front of his angled art desk.

Normally, she left him alone in his personal studio, but he was already spending a little too much time in there when he knew what today was. They'd been planning the date for a couple weeks now and it would be so disappointing if he didn't make it because he forgot how to tell time.

"Mr. Gyatso," she said softly, putting her arms around his strong torso. It was funny when she told people that Kai was an artist and then they got a good look at him. The black tattoos that now reached up and down his arms made sense, but he'd also bulked up since high school, taking up boxing as a side activity to keep in shape after he'd had to quit working at Toza's for a job opportunity as a concept artist. "We're going to be late."

Kai glanced over his shoulder at her. "Is it time already?"

"Mm-hm." She felt him thumb at her hand, warmth sliding over the wedding ring he'd put on her finger two years ago. "And your daughter's going to be very upset with you if she misses Momko's cookies."

He chuckled. "Yeah, I know. I just lost track of time. Working on this new string of character designs for a project. It's due a couple weeks from now, but you know. Don't want to do it last minute. Where's the rascal anyway?"

As if on cue, rapid footsteps reached her ears and a small girl ambled into the room in pair of jeans, black little shoes, a purple shirt and little black leather jacket Kai just had to buy her when he saw it. Of course, she loved it.

"Daddy, let's go!" Nima tugged at her father's hand. As a four year old, she had quickly learned that pulling Kai's hand often got him moving. "We're going to be late!"

Kai always said she had Jinora's face, but Nima had his green eyes and the brown of his skin even if it was lighter due to Jinora's fairer complextion. She was like a kitten bouncing on the ball of her toes at this point.

"I know, I'm coming, I'm coming," he said, getting up and disentangling the women in his life from his person so he could stretch. "Baby girl, Momko's going to save cookies for you. He always does."

"I know," she said, sticking her bottom lip out. "But I want to eat them already."

Jinora laughed, taking her daughter's hand. "You have to be patient, love... but if your daddy would hurry up we could go."

Kai grabbed his leather jacket from the back of his chair. "Hey, I'm ready." He gestured for the door. "Ladies first."

They headed downstairs and out the door of the house, Nima out the door first but waiting for her parents on the sidewalk at her mother's call.

"Are we gonna stop by and get Grandma and Grandpa too?" asked Nima.

Jinora nodded and squeezed Nima's hand. "We can, but they might want to take the car. We can ride with them though."

On the other side, Kai bent down to take Nima's hand in his far larger one. Nima smiled up at him.

"What do you think, Daddy?"

He smiled at her, sharing a glance at Jinora. Raava, they'd made such a little cutie.

"Sounds, great, baby girl. I'd like that."

They walked down the street together, hand in hand.

After two years and over a hundred thousand words, I have to say that What's Done in the Dark is my labor of love. When I started this fic it was only supposed to be about five chapters long, in perfect honesty. Then, somehow it kept growing and it ended up turning into a full length plot that needed to be written out. Not to mention, people seemed to take to it, so why not?

This was my most ambitious fic yet at the time, but it's success gave me confidence. And let me tell you why this fic is special to me: Because it gave me the confidence I needed to say "hey, I can write something really good." And people loved it. And people loved reading it and wanted more and you know what was the best thing? People telling you that this fic got them through rough times. People telling you how this fic resonated with them because they were emotions that they could and did relate to. This fic, for me, felt like it had a purpose almost beyond telling a story. The fact that this fic reached people so far and deeply is something I couldn't even fathom when I began writing this. I didn't even think I could do it because before this, I'd never truly finished a fic. I would not be the writer I am today without this fic, without kainora, without all of you who have kept reading it wherever you started at it's conception and for all the friends I made because of it.

I'm proud of myself. It's a milestone for me, but I am also so, so grateful for all of you who have stuck by it. All of you who have bothered to send me any feedback or reviews on it no matter what it said. Because of what you said. This fic holds a special place in my heart and so do all of you for reading it.

I feel like this fic really made me a writer and to everyone who just gave me the chance and the time to be one, thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Just, god, thank you.

I feel like this experience was a blessing and I thank god that I got the chance to have it.

So, to everyone, one more time. Thank you.

Now, if you're looking for more fics from me to read, my main projects are going to be these:

Sea of Chains: If you've read the fic, Anchor, by thethiefandtheairbender aka words-with-dragons, then you may very well enjoy reading that one! It features Nima in the pirate AU created by dragons and this particular fic is a sequel au. Check out our tumblrs and also check out the tumblr .com and you can see the full library of all the pirate au fics we've written up so far! If you like pirates or fancy pirates at all or just want a different thing, check this out.

The Book of War: If you want more canonverse stuff, then The Book of War is a LoK next gen fic that features the children of the Krew as they deal with an uprising war after trying to turn the Earth Kingdom into a democracy for better or for worse terms, fail. Korra's pov helms off the fic, but it's a multi-chaptered fic that tackles the war outside and also within. A long plot this one is going to be, but I'd really appreciate you guys checking this one out!

Out of Fables: A very angsty kainora fic that's a Once Upon a Time AU. The plot has a very loose skeleton to the plot and we actually change up the events of the plot a lot and it's like a totally different story. It also features my kainora babies and I'm writing it with Spiritypowers! If you like Once Upon a Time or just like fairytale kind of inspired thing in general then check this out! Also on my profile.

Also, I may choose to do a WDITD sequel in the future after I clear up some other fics, but for now, thank you for reading! Tune in for more fics!
