I want to thank everyone who has stuck with this story. I know that you probably all wanted a happy ending, but this story is marked as a tragedy. I've actually had the last scene written since I first started this chapter.
If you loved this story make sure you check out my other ones :)
"You don't have to walk me to the room, you know," Lucy said. She wasn't actually annoyed, but she did feel like she had a babysitter, which wasn't sitting well with her.
Surprisingly, Mystogan didn't go on about how it wouldn't be manly to leave a pretty girl to walk alone or how he was just trying to make sure she didn't miss out on precious time with him. Instead, he gave her a sad smile. "We all care about you," he said. "The last thing we want is for anything to happen to you again."
"I don't think that much can happen in two minutes," Lucy joked. She wasn't used to having such serious conversations with Mystogan.
Mystogan opened up the door to the Student Council room for Lucy. "Just let me have this one thing," he told her. "Jellal and Laxus get to check on you all the time. I want a chance to take care of you, too."
Lucy gave Mystogan a tight hug. "You already do so much for me," she said. "Thank you."
Mystogan left so that he wasn't late for his next class and Lucy made her way into the room. There were usually a few people in the room, but now it was empty. At first she was worried that something happened to everyone, but she knew that she was the only one that spontaneous got injured. Instead of worrying, Lucy sat down at Jellal's desk and tried to entertain herself.
Jellal rushed into the room five later, hoping to see that Lucy was okay. He had to take some papers down to Makarov and the old man wanted to hear all about what everyone at the hospital was doing to help Lucy. He had nearly told the principal that standing there talking to him wasn't helping Lucy, but he didn't want to be rude.
Jellal was overjoyed to see Lucy sitting at his desk, playing with his tape dispenser. He knew that nothing serious would happen to Lucy in such a short amount of time, but he always assumed something would happen when he wasn't around. That was his luck, after all.
"How are you feeling?" Jellal asked. He picked Lucy up by her waist, which made her shriek in surprise, and set her on his desk so he could sit in his chair.
Lucy brushed off her embarrassment and thought about how to respond. She really thought she should tell someone about the pain she would occasionally feel, but she didn't want to be taken out of school or for anyone to belittle Jellal and his ideas. She decided that changing the topic was the best option.
"Are we going to talk about it?" she asked. She looked at the board behind Jellal's head. She looked at her lap. She looked at the mess of papers around her. She looked anywhere but his face. "We never did."
Jellal barely had to think to remember what Lucy was talking about. He had thought about that day many times, especially during the past few days. After he learned that Laxus was Lucy's brother, his overprotectiveness made perfect sense. He also now knew that Lucy was avoiding him because Laxus told her to, not because kissing him scared her away.
Jellal reached up and held Lucy's cheeks, forcing her to look at him. "Don't look so scared," he told her. "Nothing is going to happen." He really didn't want her to think that their situation was going to change.
Lucy bit her lip and averted her gaze from his face. "What if I want something to happen?" she asked quietly. She had been thinking about that day, too, which he apparently didn't realize.
Jellal ran his thumb over her lips, which made her look at him again. "If that's what you want," he said, "then something will happen."
Lucy used her feet to move Jellal's chair closer before slipping off the table and onto his lap. The only reaction he showed was the small pink dusted across his cheeks. She smiled at him before resting her head against his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her and held her close, not wanting to let her go.
X
Weeks passed, but Jellal never stopped asking Lucy how she was feeling. Every time he did, she would always kiss him before saying "better now." He never imaged that she would be in so much pain and not tell him or Laxus or Layla or Jude or Mystogan or anyone.
There was rain that day- so much rain.
Jellal never noticed the scars until that day because they had been on her hips and shoulders and always covered.
He had never dreamed that she would continue cutting.
She hadn't even been letting her body adapt like the doctors agreed she should. She just continued cutting to stop the symptoms.
Just as Layla once said, Lucy was truly getting worse with every day that passed until she couldn't possibly get any worse.
Yes, it rained that day. It rained hard enough to wash away everyone's tears. But, no matter how many drops fell from the sky, the sadness could not be washed away and the memories of Lucy Heartfilia would always remain.
