This, like many of my fics, is inspired by my doing a "oh crap, next season starts in a few weeks, I better catch up on last season" marathon. In this case it was spurred by seeing all the seriously hot pictures of Hook on Pinterest, and that made me want to catch up on the series.
So here you go, a short Captain Swan drabble set about a year in the future.
There was something to be said for the "modern" conveniences of Storybrooke. Cell phones were one of the most useful inventions Killian had come across. Being able to communicate with someone instantly no matter the distance between them? Infinitely useful. Central heating? Sure, a good fireplace did the trick, but there was something to be said for not having to tend a fire during a blizzard.
Showers. Killian Jones could secretly write odes of joy about showers, and the seemingly endless supply of hot water that would flow from them. Contrary to popular belief about pirates, he and nearly every sailor he knew was a fan of regular bathing, but at sea he had been restricted to using a cloth and basin, only able to take proper baths when the Jolly Rodger was in port.
He missed wearing his leathers, but he had to admit that contemporary clothes were pretty comfortable. Especially the things called "sweatpants", which were great for relaxing on the sofa of a winter's evening with his love and her, really "their" now, son, watching "movies" and other things on the television to help him acclimate to this world's customs. And after watching Peter Pan, he definitely had to agree with Emma, "perms" were bad. Very very bad. Henry had suggested he try the mustache though, which made them all double over in gales of laughter at the thought.
And the beds weren't bad either, Killian thought to himself with a smile as he bent his head forward and kissed Emma on the neck behind her ear, eliciting a contented hum from his wife. They were snuggled together in their bed, spooning beneath the feather quilt on this cold winter's morning. He may miss the Jolly Rodger and the freedom of the seas, but he wouldn't give up his life in Storybrook living side-by-side with his one true love for all the ships and loot in the world.
