The rain pattered gently on the window, the murky grey light casting only pale colors through the church's window; while the band from several buildings away could faintly be heard from within.
A stark silhouette sat calmly near the back, fingers twitching amongst the pages of a bible. He still couldn't determine whether or not he saw all of this, the whole situation, as something valid or if he should admit himself somewhere; though saying you see demons doesn't generally go over well amongst the public.
"William?" A gentle voice rang out, footsteps approaching him. He turned his head up at him before quickly shutting the book, tucking it back behind the benches ahead of him.
He sat next to him and merely smiled. "Hiding out from the rain, are you?"
"I am," was all he managed to say. He could pretend he didn't have some sort of natural affinity for this man, but he got along well with him when he didn't perceive him to be an absolute moron. "Dantalion, don't you have boating right now?"
The demon raised an eyebrow and pointed at the downpour outside. I let out only a small noise of embarrassment in retaliation. "I don't think it's stopped you before."
He shrugged softly. "Nobody else seemed to be interested, anyway. Plus, I don't think we've talked in a few days, so I thought I'd come see you instead."
"Well," William started, hands gripping his knees. "When the rain passes it'll probably be time for dinner."
Dantalion nodded and glanced over at the Bible he'd tossed aside. "You were reading it?"
"I guess I was." He reached over and picked it back up, offering it to him. "It wasn't much help. I still…"
"Can't believe we're real?" His tone changed slightly to that of one more concerned and even hurt. "We've been here for a long while, William."
"It's not that I don't believe you're real." They had made eye contact by now, and for the first time were speaking honestly with each other. "It's not that I don't believe in any of this."
I guess if I had to describe it, I…
Dantalion tilted his head curiously to the side.
I guess it'd be that I'm still too proud to admit it.
"William?"
"I know you're real, Dantalion. Don't be stupid." He tinted pink slightly, turning his head to scoff. "If you think that you're dumber than I thought."
He looked surprised, and opened his mouth to speak back right as the dinner bell rang. It was still pouring. We both sat in silence for a moment, before he stood and extended his hand.
"Let's go."
"I can get up by myself…" William grumbled, using his hand anyway. As he went to take his hand away, Dantalion only gripped tighter. "D...Dantalion?"
"...if I let go, you won't be close enough." He avoided eye contact and started dragging the blond towards the church doors. He became slightly redder at this, but didn't protest. He might've even held his back the tiniest bit.
