I don't even know what to say except THANK YOU! I'm not saying goodbye, because hopefully most of you will stick around for the sequel!
If you haven't already guessed, it's not going to be a generation later or anything, it should take place about five years after this and it will definitely revolve around Wesley and Lissa. Unfortunately, they won't be in this chapter but there's a whole story coming for them!
Final review shout outs to fivesauce'n'YAbooks (HIIIIII!), XOStarbrightXO, Sora Kalopsia, Jessvdb15, Epiccupcake28, delovlies, Miss Kaydence, Nameless, Lizcran, and canifindtheone! As of now, I have 995 reviews, which is INSANE, so hopefully by the end I can get to 1000!
Well, without further ado, the end!
…
Nicole was glad to stay home today.
It was rather chilly and rainy, and the perfect day to stay home.
However, it was not quite the perfect day to hold a wedding, but she didn't care. She snuggled deeper into her bed.
Originally, there had been talk of holding the wedding elsewhere, but in the end, security reasons ruled out the churches and other venues in Angeles, and it was deemed the safest place for the wedding was the palace.
It had definitely taken forever, and Nicole was extremely jealous of Adele and Colin's simple elopement.
Luckily, the blonde and her now-husband had been back from their lengthy honeymoon for two and a half months now, and they were both in the wedding party. With Colin's recent win in the first election of Illea's prime minister, and Adele officially becoming Nicole's second lady-in-waiting, aside from Nat, the couple were closer to Ethan and Nicole than ever before.
Queen Francesca had wanted their engagement to be the traditional six months, but Ethan has managed to sway her down to three, with all that had happened. Being a soon-to-be princess still meant that the queen had a say in nearly every decision, but her soon-to-be mother-in-law had been as accommodating to Nicole as possible, but keeping in royal tradition, so it wasn't her fault the wedding was supposed to be more of a show than anything.
Ethan had been so busy with the attempted reconstruction of the country, but he had reassured her that he would like anything. Things still hadn't calmed down up north, but the wedding was supposed to be some good press to get things back to normal.
Nicole wanted to stay in bed for a little while longer, but there was just so much to do today, she knew she didn't have much time. The wedding wasn't until three, but there were a million things that would require her attention. She realized this might be the last time she would sleep in this room. Things had been so hectic that she hadn't yet moved out of her second floor, Selected bedroom. she was the last one still here. Gracie had gone home not long after Adele's wedding to visit her parents, but of course, she was coming back for the wedding. Nat too, had gone back to Kent with Ben for his election campaign into the Senate, but she had gotten sidetracked again and was offered a job at the racetrack where she winning races daily—according to her, she was the happiest she'd ever been. She and ben would definitely be here today, along with many of the other Selected.
All had been invited, but not all were attending. Cordelia had sent her invitation back, with a note that said she would most definitely not be attending. All of the girls who had been eliminated that first day so long ago hadn't even replied, probably too embarrassed. The only exception was Elly Olsen, the cold Two dancer who Nicole had once so admired. Things certainly had changed.
Lissa had never replied either, but Elvira and Michaela, the other members of the Elite who had left before Yukon were coming, as well as Amelia, Amber, Rory, Hana, Dorianne, Meagan, Autumn, Cora, Felicity, Tatiana, and Brynn. Taylor was too busy with her studies at Illea's top university, and Erin was not coming, probably because of how she left in disgrace.
Of course, there were four girls that wouldn't be here either, and Nicole found herself missing them more than anything, even Mackenzie and Ebony. It was Katherine she missed the most, who had been one of her closest friends, and the girl who had died so Nicole could marry Ethan today. Because of her, she wanted her dress to be lace, like the ones Katherine loved so much.
Just as she was getting out of bed, the door to her room was thrown open, because even if you were going to a princess, you didn't get privacy from your sister.
"NICKY, YOU ARE GETTING MARRIED TODAY THIS IS NO TIME TO BE ASLEEP," Nat shrieked as she made her dramatic entry. She was still in her pajamas, apparently perfectly comfortable with treating the palace as her second home.
Adele and Gracie peeked out on either side of Nat, both wearing matching grins, also still in pajamas.
"You would think it was Christmas or something!" Nicole teased, throwing back the blankets and sitting up.
"Oh no, you don't," Nat sprinted towards her, and launched herself on Nicole's bed. She grabbed Nicole's hands, and pulled her up next to her, and before she knew it, they were all jumping on the bed.
"You're going to be a princess!" Gracie cried.
Adele looped her arm over Nicole's shoulders, "And you get to marry the love of your life!"
Honestly, it didn't seem real. So much had changed and so much had happened, it was hard to believe she was still the same girl who been more concerned about ballet than anything. Because today, all that would change.
"I know, I know, I know!" she cried. "I can't believe it!"
When the maids delivered breakfast that Nat had planned, they reluctantly ended their bed-jumping celebration. It wasn't a bad way to say goodbye to the room, Nicole thought.
Over pancakes and mimosas in pajamas on her bed, her bridesmaids surrounded her as they ate.
"So who isn't coming, again?" Adele began, starting on her second mimosa.
"Most of them actually are. Cordelia isn't, she refused. Taylor's too busy and Erin and Lissa never replied. Neither did a bunch of the girls who left on the first day," Nicole said.
"Lissa's not coming? I thought she'd give anything to see Wesley again," Nat said, stuffing in a large bite of pancakes.
"Me too, but I never heard back from her."
"That's odd. I knew those two had a thing for each other," Adele shrugged.
"I guess sometimes the boys we love when we're younger don't always stay in our hearts," Gracie said, and then grinned. "I should know. A year ago I would have slapped me if I knew I was going to turn Ethan down!"
They all laughed, and then Nicole's bridesmaids had something even better than one last un-princess-like hurrah.
"So we know it's cheesy, but we decided to do this anyway. And Ethan pitched in too, but he wasn't invited to the bridesmaid breakfast," Nat said, as she handed Nicole a small white box tied with an obnoxiously large bow. "So here's your something old—well not it's not the exact one, but I figured it was pretty close."
Inside the box was something Nicole didn't get right away. It was a small corsage, mounted on a hair pin, containing a single white rhododendron flower with several tiny forget-me-nots.
"The province pin," she whispered, tracing her finger over the petal. The exact replica of the same one she had worn more than a year ago, the rhododendron for Kent and the forget-me-nots for Yukon, after she had been randomly chosen to represent it.
"Yeah, I'll never forget you wearing it when you decked Ben for me at the send-of ceremony," Nat said, smirking, "it's like fixed in my memory now."
Nicole looked at her twin, and blinked back tears.
"Oh hey, none of that now! You're getting married!"
"Thanks Nat, for everything!" Nicole blubbered, throwing her arms around Nat. "Love you."
"Love you too, sis, but there's an army of people coming in ten minutes to get us ready for your wedding, so we have to hurry!"
"Okay, I'm okay." Nicole scrubbed at her eyes, glad she hadn't had her makeup done yet.
"Here's your something new," Adele said, handing her a larger white box. "To be honest, I didn't pay for it because you're going to be a princess and all. And Ethan wouldn't let us buy them ourselves."
Inside the box was the most glamourous pair of ballet slippers Nicole had ever laid eyes on. Except these had heels and were perfect, with the shiny lace-up ribbons to wrap around her ankles and everything.
"Oh my goodness I love them!" She squealed.
"And here's your something borrowed," Gracie handed her a thin, flat box.
It contained one of Gracie's Convicting jewelry pieces, the thin silver and pearl tiara.
"Every princess needs a crown," Gracie said. "And you're already wearing the rest of your Convicting jewelry, except you didn't have a tiara."
"And ours were gold," Nat pointed out.
Nicole hugged everyone again, trying to stop the happy tears.
"And last but not least, from your fiancé, something blue," Nat presented her the smallest box yet, this one white velvet, and looking suspiciously like a ring box. Inside was a ring that matched the rest of her light blue sapphire and silver Convicting jewelry. Nicole gasped, and then clutched the box to her chest, as a substitute for Ethan.
"You can thank him later," Nat said, just as there came a knock at the door, issuing in an army of maids there to help them get ready.
Nicole took one last moment to herself as her friends stood up.
She had known what she wanted back on that day back home, the day where she had stayed home from work to watch her sisters, the day she had figured out everyone was in love but her, but she had spent the Selection wanting only to love ballet.
Ethan changed all that. At first, she hadn't let herself fall for him. She had made herself think he was making her look like a fool and had thrown a vase at him, but still he loved her. She had constantly pushed him away, but still he loved her. She had yelled at him, slapped him, tried everything to desperately keep herself from him.
But in the end, it was futile. Somehow in the midst of all that happened, he had fixed her and she had fixed him—because she loved him.
…
Ethan stood at the altar, the Great Room spread out before him, packed with throngs of people. The rebuilding had finished, and the massive room was even more beautiful than before. Scores of white chairs were lined up on either side of the central aisle, and the doors remained closed, but the room collectively quieted as the music began to play softly, announcing the beginning of the wedding.
On one side stood the minister, and on the other were his groomsmen—Andrew, Wesley, Colin, Ben, and to make it five to match Nicole's bridesmaids, Michelle's now fiancé, David.
There was a brief moment before the doors opened where his eyes skimmed over the front row of chairs, and yet again, was jarred by the lack of his father. His mother sat by herself, with all her children in the wedding party, looking beautiful as ever, but slightly out of place, sitting with Nicole and Nat's mother, and their brother Jason and sisters Lea and Eva.
Ethan had never had the best relationship with his dad, but in the end, he was still his dad, and today he felt his absence keenly.
Wesley gave his shoulder a squeeze, and Ethan was reminded that at least he still had his brothers.
And in a few minutes, he would have his wife.
The newly-crowned queen and seven months pregnant Christine led the way, smiling radiantly, dressed in the strapless bright pink dress Nicole had picked out, holding a bouquet of white roses. Of course, it was tradition that the princesses be bridesmaids for the new princess, but he knew that Nicole and Christine already shared a close bond of friendship. After Christine was Michelle, newly engaged to her longtime boyfriend, the former guard David. After Italy had gently broken her engagement with their prince because of the revolution, Andrew had released her from all her responsibilities to marry a prince, and Ethan had asked his soon-to-be brother-in-law to stand up with him today. As his two sisters took their places on the other side of the altar, Ethan could help but remember their set-up that first time he had gone on a date with Nicole, when he had pretended he had it all together when in reality he had forgotten and had to employ Andrew for help.
Adele came after them, her eyes of course were only on Colin up by Ethan's side, as the new prime minister's wife should. Along with her pink dress, he noticed she was wearing the blue and gold filigree earrings he had given Ebony for the Convicting. She tore away her gaze just long enough to give Ethan a sly wink before standing next to Michelle.
After Adele was Gracie, with the same simple gold chain he had given Katherine for the Convicting. She beamed at him, and he couldn't help but smile back at her. She was truly an amazing girl, to turn down his offer of becoming a princess because she knew he loved Nicole. He loved Gracie too, in her own way, just like he loved Adele and Nat.
Last was Nat, and he could see his soon-to-be-sister-in-law was crying, wearing Sirena's ruby and gold Convicting bracelet. They were happy tears, though, and she was grinning uncontrollably despite watery eyes. He only hoped that he could convince her to stick around after the wedding instead of going out into the world to do her thing, because who knows when she would decide to come back. Over the course of this crazy last year, despite everything that happened, she had still become one of his best friends, and now he was marrying her sister.
As she took her place right to the right of where Nicole would stand, he realized how they were starting to not look quite so identical anymore, especially with Nat's new shorter haircut.
The music changed, and Ethan vaguely recognized the crowded room getting to their feet, and then the doors at the other end of the Great Room opened, and time stopped and everything made sense.
Nicole held onto her father's arm, and she blew him away.
Her dress began just off her shoulders, with long, lace sleeves going down to her wrist. The lacy tulle fitted close to her body and hugged her waist and hips before delicately flaring out to a long train. A floor-length veil covered her face, her dark hair gathered elegantly up.
Ethan could hardly breathe watching her make her way towards him, not wanting to wake up and find this was all a dream. Nicole kissed her father's cheek and he swept her veil back. She handed Nat her bouquet of white roses, and then she was standing there by his side, holding his hands, and he realized her smile was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
The words of the minister were completely lost on him as he took in his almost-wife. He caught a glimpse of her ballet-slipper heels, and was reminded of the countless times he had gone to her room only to interrupt her practice. She had on her Convicting earrings and bracelet, and the new ring, but had left the large necklace off, and he couldn't help but squeeze her hands tighter, remembering the terrible awkwardness of giving it to her. All she needed was an umbrella to kiss under, like they had for their wedding photography session, and vase to throw at him.
When it was time for their vows, Ethan barely remembered what he had written, but was saved by Wesley passing him the notecard he had for it just in case.
"Nicole…" he began, hearing his voice echo throughout the Great Room, "The first time I talked to you was pretty awkward, and I didn't know what to say. To be honest, most of our first conversations were awkward, but it's okay, because the whole time I knew I had to keep you here, because you were always there for me, putting my broken pieces back together little by little. I promise to let you dance when you need to, and I promise to not plan outdoor dates in the rain, even though that will always be special to me, because I think I first fell for you when you threw that vase at me. I don't deserve you, I really don't. I know I'm going to keep messing things up and that it won't be easy to be a princess, but I need you, and I know that having you by my side will be the best thing that could ever happen to me, because I love you."
She was crying by the time he was finished, and he wanted to hug her so badly, but that wasn't exactly appropriate wedding behavior. She tightened her grip on his hands, and cleared her throat.
"Ethan, when I entered the Selection, my only reasoning was to become a ballerina. At first, I didn't want to like you because you were making things hard and I was too stubborn to let myself love you. I even went so far as to throw a vase at the prince of Illea. But it was always you, and I know that now. I love you so much, and I can't wait to be your wife. I promise to never let my relationship with ballet come before us, and I'm hoping you'll break your promise and kiss me whenever it rains, to remember all the times we yelled at each other standing in the rain, because both of us were too stubborn to admit anything. And I promise to always love you, no matter what happens."
They repeated the official vows after the minister, though Ethan could hardly comprehend what was going on until they both said, "I do".
Nat and Wesley stepped forward, and handed Nicole and Ethan the wedding rings. Nicole slipped his over his finger, barely suppressing her excitement as she bounced on her toes. Ethan put hers on, right next to her two engagement rings, the one that was supposed to be Gracie's and the new one he had given her than morning to match the rest of her Convicting jewelry.
Andrew stepped forward, and Nicole was coronated as a princess, a second tiara, this one gold, was placed overtop her veil.
And that was it.
When the minister told him he could kiss her, he didn't even wait until the sentence was finished before wrapping his arms around his wife, tilting her back, and kissing her for as long as was socially acceptable.

(This is totally optional reading, just for me to say my thing)
Two years and ten months, an entire notebook full of planning, 3,586 pins, three laptops, and 117 chapters, and about 350,000 words later, I'm finally to the end!
This has been such an amazing thing for me, and this story got me through senior year of high school, my first job and my first two years of college, and thank you to each and every one of you guys for reading, if it's now or years later. I know my author's notes tended to be either spectacularly jerk-tastic or really stupid (I cringe re-reading them believe me). I know this story isn't the best thing ever, but I have to admit I'm pretty proud of it, and I know it's helped me come a long way as a writer.
I'm going to be annoying one last time, because I just have to say though Selected Twins isn't the first selection syoc story to finish because I'm lazy, it is officially the most reviewed story in the archive, and the second longest, and the oldest still active selection syoc story.
(Two fantastic ones that I know of that finished before me are both based of the Heir/the Crown, but check out RubyCasablanca's "To Build a Home" and L. C Carraway's "Holding Our Own in a Great Big Storm" that both helped me write this)
Couldn't have done it without a whole bunch of things and people:
In case you didn't know, so much of this is inspired by other things I love and many scenes are blatantly copied (oops) but it is a fanfiction, so I really don't care. Credits to Newsies, Lost, The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings, West Side Story, Poldark, Dance Academy, The Bloody Irish, Far and Away, Ever After, Titanic, Outlander, the Maze Runner, The Chronicles of Narnia movies for writing inspiration specific to scenes in this story.
For everything else inspiration that also helped me write this, rather listening, reading, or generally helping: Mac Duggal, Sherri Hill, Catherine Deane, Elie Saab and the countless designers I used for Pinterest inspiration
Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, Karliene, Carrie Underwood, the Lost Soundtrack, the Titanic soundtrack, Celtic Woman, Emmet Cahill and Lisa Lambe, and Kellie Pickler for all the writing music.
Joel Rosenberg, Mercedes Lackey, for the books that inspired me to write this as I read them as well as Lauraine Snelling for her books and inspiring the character of Nat.
For general character and other inspiration (I'm not going to list all of the face claims here though): Jeff Heimbrock, John Bell and his vines, Dean O'Gorman, Dan Deluca, Aidan Turner, Lee Pace, Damian McGinty, Evangeline Lilly, Kate Middleton and always Orlando Bloom.
Countless hot choclates, frozen lemonades, Hershey kisses, and tortilla chips were consumed while writing this.
And to whoever you are, thank you for sticking it out through my numerous obsessions I know I was annoying!
To all my submitters, literally couldn't have done it without you! I'm going to name a few of you later, but thank you to whoever the anonymous guests were who kidly submitted Dorianne, Alana, Summer, Lily, Ruby, and Alexina, as well as whoever submitted Elly and Erica, though for some reason I could not find the old Pm's!. Thank you Waffle0 for Tatiana, mnbvcxz-xx for Amelia, sunshineeverlasting for Felicity, Vulkodlak for Erin, ShieldMaidens at the barricade for Cora, RosemaryAlysse for Rory and Hana (and for all your support on that other story, this kind of took over that one!) Radical Llama for Juniella, fairy not princess for all the reviews and for Megan and Autumn, Demigod-Gallagher-Selected for Michaela, zeldafanatic0555 for Bryn, princessswim for Cordelia, and TheGirlWithTheRainbowTattoo for another one of my favorite girls, Elvira (can I use her in the sequel!?)
To Lizcran and Nameless, thank you for your quiet, almost constant support, it really meant so much to me!
To 4Love4Love4, thank you for totally inspiring Ebony (and Amber), and I'm sorry I did such awful things to her, but I really loved that plot twist.
To fivesauce'n'YAbooks, thank you for Taylor, Lissa, and Sirena, some of my favorite characters that were submitted. Thank you for all your help and at times, actual written scene contributions to Wessa. I think you're going to love the sequel!
To Deeptha13 and XOStarbrightXO, thank you for jumping on the bandwagon halfway through the story, helping me pick stuff on Pinterest for the wedding dress chapter and the Convicting, and for all the company you kept me in our Pinterest group chat.
To majestictales, I'm hoping you kept your promise to catch up on this little story when you get back and are reading this eventually. I'm sorry for not finishing until you're almost back, and for letting Katherine die, but thank you for creating her and for all your reviews, for getting me into Pinterest, and cool graphic things you made and for fangirling with me and being generally awesome.
To UltimateMaxmericaShipper/Sora Kalopsia/Paige, you were one of the driving forces behind this story, thank you for Gracie and Mackenzie, for all you "encouragement" to update, for countless Wessa ideas and reviews, for all the messages we shared and talking about cupcakes, and for being one of my best internet friends, and forcing me to write a sequel, and mostly for loving that Gracie didn't win. Love you bae.
Lastly, to my real-life twin delovlies who helped inspire this story from it's very beginning to it's end. Thank you for always making sure I was working on an update instead of watching Lost, for making me make a Pinterest board for this story, for sitting out on the deck for like a week two summers ago and helping me plan out the after-Trentworth fun chapters, for helping inspire Colin and Adele's romance and Adele in general, for getting me into Newsies, for all the inside jokes that made its way into this story, for being a great writing advisor until you didn't want spoilers, for helping me finish the last chapters and letting me talk about them in all our car rides together, and for literally inspiring the idea of the twins. I loosely based Nicole off you whoops.
So what's next? I'm going to be doing some minor editing, and by editing, I mean deleting all my authors notes and consolidating some of the really short first chapters, and taking out some of the many introduction/makeover/first date chapters to make it easier to read. I've done a lot of this already, and if you get any notifications for this story for new chapters (I'm not sure how this will work), disregard them, sorry!
Then onto the sequel, hopefully by next week! I don't want to reveal too much, but anyway, let me know if you're interested in it being a minor syoc. Keep in mind they won't be main characters and the story isn't going to be super long either. Hopefully I see you all there!
