Fed up
Phantom CEO
Ciel Phantomhive was bored with all the people who were praising him with his work. It wasn't that he had done the work, it was that he had found the best artisan crafters in all of Europe. The famous toy company was celebrating new sales with its toys and they were dominating the competition as usual. Another thing that they were praising him was for the new store downtown London making huge sales. It was a build your own toy store and with a bakery for their food lines, it was fun for all ages and now the Funtom company is richer than ever.
Eager to return to his wife, he and Sebastian were returning to the townhouse to get a head start on packing. Looking out the window of the carriage, he took out a rectangle shaped locket and opened it. Inside on the panel on the left, was a recent picture of Melody, on the right was Vincent. His two children were his pride and joy. They never fought with each other, he was thankful for that, but he wasn't sure if Melody was aware that Vincent adores her.
She always makes him his favorite treats and cuts his apples and sculpts them into animals that he loves. Her work almost makes Vincent a bit sad to eat them, but like his father, has a huge sweet tooth. At times she was acting more like a nanny instead of a noble sister.
Ciel frowned at the displeasing fact.
'She should not be acting like that, she's a noble girl.' He thought as he closed the locket and put it back under his shirt. If any of his friends in the underworld knew about it, then they would tease him about going soft. Why would a noble girl choose to play in the kitchen instead of shopping with her mother?
As much as he loved her, he just didn't understand his daughters' actions. On more than one occasion he has gotten the best tutors and clothes from the top shops, but none of that please her much. Then again he didn't care for much of clothes either, but as a noble girl, she must care about her looks. He remembers the cupcake incident, he recalls patches of flour all over her dress and some batter on it too. She had a huge smile on her face, it brought him joy to see that she present him with something she created. Alas, but he knew that he had to push her away from the kitchen. That isn't who Melody is, a noble girl does not belong in the kitchen.
Perhaps she would have talent for music?
Vincent is very talented in weapons and certain arts. Maybe she will have a talent in the violin? Sometimes Sebastian will inform him that Melody will sneak off and pick herbs in the garden for Bard or him. It made him a bit jealous that she would spend time playing with Bard rather than her own father, but he had work to do so when would he fit her in?
He spent plenty of time with Vincent and when Melody was an only child he gave her so much attention. What happened?
With the recent expansion of his company and the Queen keeping him busy, it has become somewhat difficult to juggle both. Speaking of the Queen, a new crime wave has the people of London running scared and the police on overtime. For fear of his children's lives, he has forbidden to leave the estate. Ciel has instructed all the servants to keep both of them in their sights the entire time. Vincent was easier to watch since he obeyed every rule. Melody, however, tended to wonder and let curiosity get the best of her. That was one quality that she had definitely inherited from her father.
Mellie POV
Today is Thursday and father should be home on Saturday, with Vincent up from his nap everyone is paying attention to him again in the garden. During his nap, mother returned home for an hour before taking Tanaka with her to town. Some business must be taken care of at one of father's shops. So with Tanaka gone, I am the one in charge of the manor, watching from my bedroom window the other servants were cheering for Vinny. Letting out a long sigh, I closed three text books and put them away.
Who made the rule that a lady must learn how to speak every language on Earth?
Well, to be honest I find language the most beautiful and painful art of the world. How a word can lift someone's spirit or crush someone's heart. I don't think father has any idea how his words hurt me so. Other than that, studying other culture and their language was quite enjoyable. A couple years ago, we traveled to India to visit a Prince father was close to.
The food there was so delicious and the palace was so huge that inside was a stable for elephants! It was the best family trip ever and it was the first time I had seen father smile so much! Prince Uncle Soma and I spent a lot of time together as he tried teaching me the language himself. I've got quite a grasp on it and we have been exchanging letters since then.
He always tries to cheer me up when I'm down, but he can only do so much.
I've mastered French, German is almost done, now I got to do Spanish.
Cleaning out my desk from the papers that were scattered on it. A letter caught my eye and I immediately burned it in my fireplace. Father had left a letter for me with instructions that I work harder on my studies and manners. Ms. Grigs will be back on Sunday to have dinner with my family. I am to show humility and promise to be a proper lady.
That's it. Father will never be pleased with me until I am the perfect daughter worthy of the Phantomhive name. He just…will anything ever be good enough for him?
Was I even meant to be a noble girl?
I run over to his study and out of a fit of rage just begin throwing books on the floor. Toppling over the chairs, throwing papers from the desk, maybe he'll notice me now?
Sun down will be upon the estate in a few hours, Vinny is outside with everyone showing off his swordsmanship. Now is the time to leave.
