It's finally all over! This is the last chapter. Thank you everyone for sticking around. I do not know where I got the idea for this story, but my chapter summary of it has been kicking around and I'm so happy I finally finished it.
This is an Epilogue. Surprisingly there's a happy ending.
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
"We all have to work together to make the world a better place." - Dororo
It was all over. Natsumi's dream had been realized. The world was slowly flourishing into a better place.
"So... what now?" Giroro had asked her after the final battle. "Your goal has been completed. You can have a life again." He blushed a bit, scratching his cheek about having kissed her in the middle of battle. "What do you want to do?"
Natsumi smiled. "I want to live my life with Fuyuki and Mom. They both have a second chance at living now. We can be a family again." Natsumi smiled.
"Oh." Giroro was happy for her.
"Of course, you're welcome to come with us," she offered. "You're my friend. I'm so happy you stayed by my side. And we need to get to know each other better, remember?"
"You're... not still mad at me? Especially with the way I kissed you during battle?"
"I was just being tough on you so you could learn your lesson. And that kiss was nothing. It helped you triumph, didn't it?" she asked. Giroro nodded. "Then I formally repeal my anger toward you."
Giroro gave a large, toothy grin. There was still hope for Natsumi and him, and he was happy that he was finally out of the doghouse.
It was hard getting used to life as a mortal. He had always lived with cosmic powers, although Kululu told him that was wrong and he had once apparently lived as a pathetic hippie-ninja. He wasn't sure what to make of that, honestly.
His life goal was to now coach Kululu to be a good king of the Heavenly Kingdom, or at least rule the world they lived on decently.
Kululu also ruled over everything in the Underworld, which he said he felt more comfortable in, although Dororo was trying to give him tips on making him more god-like.
He had to pass on the torch, and it was proving a good distraction for the new life that he had, the life that he also didn't know anything about.
"Don't worry, I'll help you. No matter what, we'll be together." Koyuki promised. This always calmed Dororo down.
I can finally live in peace, just being with Koyuki making the flora grow in the world, he realized. There was still a small sense of responsibility over the people that he had once ruled.
And he was using that to give him his drive of making the world a better place, by making Kululu a better person.
He already had his life's work cut out for him. But it was working, little by little. It paid off having a super genius as god, too - the technology of the world was steadily improving and a new, more modern age seemed to be coming about.
The world was where it should have been. And for that, Dororo was happy.
And I'll help it along every step of the way, he promised. Even if it took the rest of his life, he'd heal the world's wounds, along with his wife Koyuki, helping the nature and the people, and even the god himself.
Dororo had one other job to do, though, and it was a job he knew he'd always be proud of all his life.
"We're gathered here today to unite two souls in marriage. Their love blossomed - I saw it with my own two eyes. Nothing makes me happier than to see them finally getting married." Dororo served as the person to officiate the marriage between Momoka and Fuyuki.
"This. Is. The. Best. Day. Of. My. Life!" Momoka seemed super excited as a bashful Fuyuki stood alongside her. They had both decided that they'd already been dead once, and no time could be wasted, so they got married.
"Will you both take care of and love each other till the end of eternity?" Dororo asked, knowing the two lovers' answer.
"Of course. I mean... I do." Fuyuki was rather flustered as he held Momoka's hand.
"I do! I DO! Marry us! Quickly!" Momoka begged.
"Then you are both husband and wife, married forever to take care of each other in sickness and in health. You may kiss - " Dororo was cut off by Momoka jumping on Fuyuki and kissing him.
She was very enthusiastic.
Aki cheered in the background.
"That's my baby boy getting married!" she cried.
"Way to go, Fuyuki! Never knew he'd die and come back with a girlfriend. That was definitely something I didn't expect." Natsumi was happy for him, too. Her eyes were tearing up a bit.
Everybody watching, all of the former Sins and Virtues who were now mortals, and even Kululu who had been invited to create decorations, cheered as Fuyuki tried to pick her up and kiss her deeper.
They were all just glad that the two of them were finally happy. Well, all except Kululu, who was just there because he was invited out of diplomacy.
"So we've both decided then?" Pururu asked. "Stick together and keep Chiroro safe?"
"What... You want to adopt her? Like a daughter?" said Garuru.
"Yes." She nodded. "I want us to raise her and take care of her. For Tororo. For everybody."
"All right, then. I'd be happy to help keep you both safe," he vowed. "And Pururu?"
"Yes?"
"I'm glad you're safe and here with me." He gave her a kiss of gratitude. He really loved her.
"It's kind of strange how Kululu became god, huh?" Most of the time, Aki tried not to focus how she had almost slept with the former Sin, but sometimes it still came back up. She lived with Natsumi in a small hut that she, Giroro and her daughter had made together, although Giroro insisted in living in a tent in the yard.
"Mom. I don't want to hear about this..." Natsumi admitted.
"But—it's really strange!" Aki pointed out. "And I had no idea he loved the Lord so much."
"La di da di da, I'm not listening!" Natsumi plugged her ears.
"Did I hear Natsumi's distress?" Giroro asked, darting into their house, always on the look-out for new ways to impress or help Natsumi.
"It's fine. We were just talking about Kululu," Natsumi admitted.
"Ah, yes. That can be very distressing," Giroro agreed. "Although I admire the weird love that he had... that I never seemed to pick up on when I was a Sin. He did good. And he's in for a lonely life until she wakes up."
"Don't you hate him, though, for all the awful things he did as a Sin?" Natsumi asked.
"Partly. I do hate him, but I understand that I did horrible things too, so we're in the same boat. Sin... Sin controls you, Natsumi. I'm surprised he could find something good in there under all that Sin without giving it up." He let out a sigh. "And I'm glad Dororo's helping him change more."
"But it's still kind of weird how things went, right?" said Aki.
"Yeah. Last time I talked to him he started talking about the memories of the 'first world,' the world that the Lord came from before us. Apparently, she knew us all, and Kululu and I were in a platoon together or something. He offered to give my memories back to me... I told him no. I like the life I have now, though, and so I'm fine with being without. I think Dororo decided the same thing. Keroro and Tamama took his offer, though. They're off traveling together now, and trying to piece things together or something. The whole thing is just too weird for me," he finished.
Natsumi smiled. "At least we're in this weird, new world, happy and together."
"Y-yeah." He blushed.
The first thing Keroro had done with his old memories was apologize to Kululu for messing up so badly. He then insisted on leaving alone to try to figure out how to make up for all the wrong he had done.
Tamama had followed him, though, and didn't let Keroro isolate himself in sorrow.
"It was all on me... It was all my fault... for being an everyday idiot!" Keroro cried. Tamama held him closely.
"You just have to make up for your mistakes. You can't change the past, only the future," he told him in a Dororo-like way. "Don't isolate yourself from everybody, Mr. Sergeant." Tamama had picked up the habit of calling Keroro by his old name.
"Change the future? Make up for my mistakes?" Keroro didn't know what to do.
But he soon learned what.
There were other mortals still living on the planet, ones whose lives had been hurt by the Sins - Sins like Envy, Gluttony, Sloth, and Greed.
Keroro decided to make things right by traveling and helping those people, and Tamama came along. They made a wagon and found some weird thing called horses to take them around the world as they traveled.
Tamama liked to think of it as a romantic trip. Keroro knew they were doing right.
But he had a whole lifetime to make up for for his sins.
Garuru sat down by Tororo's, Zoruru's, Taruru's, and Karara's graves that he had made. Pururu held his hand.
"We won. We finally have a home, guys. I wish you could have been here... but I promise to honor your sacrifices and enjoy the world that you inspired me to help fight for," Garuru promised.
"I-I'm really sorry that you're dead... That I couldn't help you..." Chiroro put her hand on Tororo's gravestone, her childhood sweetheart who hadn't lasted.
"Want to talk to him alone, sweetie?" Pururu asked. Chiroro nodded. Pururu carefully took Garuru away from the graves.
"You did good, making graves for them. You're a good leader," Pururu told him.
"I just wish I could have been good enough to save their lives," he wished.
It had been weird for Saburo. He had just been traveling one day, and then Boom! The world had suddenly been sunny and perfect.
"I'm sure I could write a poem about this. Or make up some tale. Ah, but if the world is so different, there's so much more to explore..." There were so many new choices in his life.
He had so much ahead of him.
The people who had fought in the final battle to change the world all kept in touch. They all remained friends.
Dororo and Giroro even managed to repair their broken bond and start a small friendship.
They all lived happy and full lives, doing what they dreamed of and hoped for, until they were old and dead.
Thousands and thousands of years had passed.
It took a million before she woke up and broke out of her crystal prison.
"Hello, Mois." Kululu had always waited for her. Sitting by the side of her coffin and working on inventions, reading angry letters Dororo left to him about how he couldn't jerk around the planet, reading her stories.
He hadn't felt any true emotion until the day she woke up. And then, he knew he was feeling happiness.
He still loved her. His tiny little loop hole had paid off.
"Kululu..." Angol Mois looked at him and smiled, for the first time in a while.
Kululu pulled himself up to her side and kissed her on the lips. "Ah~... You still have my heart. I suppose I can feel more emotions by your side than not." He put his hand to her chest, feeling his heart inside of her.
"D-did you miss me?" Mois asked.
"Of course I did," he said to her.
"I-I'm sorry... About everything and how I acted," she apologized. "I-is everybody mad at me? I killed them..."
"Uhhh... They forgave you," Kululu lied. In reality, they had barely talked about the Lord. The other mortals that he didn't care about as much had passed her down as an evil legend, but he had been able to change her name to the Lord of Terror in their stories.
"Good... I-I'm so happy to see you again," she smiled.
"You don't know how happy I am to just be with you. And don't be too harsh on yourself. We don't have the time for you to feel guilty," he told her.
"But, we have forever!"
"Ku ku ku... A forever that I'm going to use every moment of to be with you. You're all mine this time. And I'm yours.
"I love you. No more running away from those feelings," he promised.
The two embraced.
And there was no running away. They were reunited, and lived in peace and happiness.
