Chapter Five: As Long as she's safe
"Do I have to go?" He heard her whisper
"Yes, I promised your father that I would get you to safety," He put a kiss on her forehead, and then took her hand, "You got your wand?"
She nodded her head.
"Good. Now stay close."
"Uncle Charlie?"
He turned his head, and watched as the door flew open with a loud bang. Through the door, a man wearing a black hooded-cloak and a Death Eater mask. Fear ran down his spine as he took a step in front of the girl. They found us, he thought. The Death Eater slowly walked towards them, pulling out its wand.
"Lyra, listen to me… take the file I gave you and the potion. Throw the potion at the wall," Charlie said as he pushed her behind him and towards the wall.
"But.."
"Do it… NOW!"
A red spell came flying at them which Charlie bock with a flick of his wrist, casting a non-verbal protego spell. The Death Eater took off running towards them just as Charlie sent a Stupefy curse at them. I can't let him get to Lyra, he thought as he took off towards him. It was when that Charlie watched, with his blue eyes widening, as the Death Eater dodged the spell, turning on its heels while throwing another spell. Without delay, he ducked from the spell. Yet, as he ducked, Charlie watched as the Death Eater threw a spell, but this time not at him, but at Lyra. His legs started to push forward, racing the spell as if time slowed down. He called out to Lyra just as she threw the potion. Just as the curse got close to Lyra, Charlie jumped into the way, taking the curse in the back. Lyra's eyes widen as tears filled her eyes. Charlie gave her a small smile as the darkness took him.
"Nooo!"
"Uncle Charlie!" a voice called to him, "Uncle Charlie, are you awake yet?"
He opened his eyes, and turned over. A 5 year old Lyra sat on his bed, grinning like a cheshire cat. Her dark red hair was curling all over the place while her big blue eyes shimmered with happiness.
"Uncle Charlie! You're finally awake!" She giggled as she leaned closer to him, "Momma says that breakfast is ready."
"Lyra… you're safe…"
Drip… Drip… Drip…
The sound of something dripping against something metal hit his ears just as pain erupted in his head and down the left side of his body. Groaning, Charlie raised his hand and touched the back of his head. A hiss escaped his mouth as he touched a gash that is in his head. Dry blood… how long was I out… He wondered while he slowly opening his eyes. When he noticed that there were no bright lights, he fully opened his eyes.
Looking around, Charlie could tell that he was locked in dungeon looking room. There were cobwebs in the corners. There were bars in front of him, but he noticed that near the door, it looked rusty. It could be opened easily, yet he knew that there would be a spell to keep him in. The dripping sound came from the window, which also had bars on it. It seemed to be raining outside. The room had nothing other than straw on the floor. No bed. No toilet. Nothing. He wondered where in the world was he.
Suddenly, he started to pat his body, and cursed. They were smart enough to take his wand from him. Looking down at his hands, he could tell that they were not tied or chained down along with his legs. He could feel his face was bruised and a bit swollen. The cut on his head was aching, but the pain was manageable. Without his wand, he couldn't heal himself, nor could he call for help. Sighing, he leaned back against the wall. Charlie wondered if they had gotten Lyra. Is she safe? Did she run and get to safety? Or did the potion work and she was somewhere else with the family? Lyra, I hope that you are safe now. I am so sorry that I failed you.
Down the hall, Charlie could hear footsteps begin to come towards his cell. It was moments later that a figure stood at his cell, wearing his Death Eater mask, hiding who it was. Charlie smirked as he leaned forward a bit.
"Scared to show me who you are coward?" Charlie said.
"You are not in the position to speak out of term," It said.
"You are a coward that hides behind the mask," Charlie hissed.
"Maybe you shouldn't talk or that girl might get hurt," It said, its voice amused, "Her screams echo through the night when the Dark Lord has his way with her. The screams are delicious."
"Shut up!"
"The Dark Lord is having fun making her succumb to him." It smirked as put its hands around the bars, leaning close, "Those blue eyes. You know they look just like your brother's eyes. What is his name? Oh yeah, Fred. I remember him. He didn't last more than a week. He yelled and screamed for mercy. His blood flowed as the cutting spell cut across his chest. The Dark Lord made a sport for everyone to take a piece of out him. Of course, after the week, we threw him somewhere in here. I heard that he hasn't been heard from since. I wonder if the girl would last a week. Will the Dark Lord do the same? Or will he take her to his bed and make her his whore?"
Charlie shot out and punched the person in the face causing them to throw backwards. The mask that was protecting their face, fell off as it clutched its face. Charlie's dark blue eyes went wide as his heart stopped. Standing in front of him, holding his face, was his baby brother, Percy. Percy straighten up, fitting his robes while blood fell down his nose.
"Cheap shot, Older Brother," Percy said, smirking, wiping the blood away, "Who is she? Your whore? Are you sweet on her? Ooooh, you were probably in that basement going to fuck her. What was the matter, Charlie? Nothing to say?"
"If you touch her or anyone touches her, I will kill you all." Charlie growled as he reached out to touch him, but he bounced off a spell and hit the wall. His head hit the wall causing his head wound to reopen and blood to go down his cheek.
Percy laughed, "Stupid. You think that you could hurt me again? You are not as smart as you
think. See you later brother." With that Percy was gone as the darkness consumed Charlie.
His eyes were blurred when he opened them. Everything was bright, and he noticed that he was now sitting in a chair. The chair was hard and very uncomfortable. His arms were tied to the arms of the chair with heavy chains, along with his legs. Charlie tried to see if his arms or legs could move, but every time he moved, the chains got tighter. Fuck, he thought as he sighed mentally. Looking around the room, he couldn't tell if there was anyone in the room. The light that was shining down on him made it difficult to see.
"Ah, you are awake." a voice said.
A figure dressed in tight black dress walked, heels clicking loudly on the floor, into the light. Charlie looked up and came face to face to Bellatrix LeStrange. Her lips were twisted in her sick smile as she looked down at Charlie. Her black hair looked like she hadn't brushed it as the knots were very invisible through the curls. A cold stone dropped in Charlie's stomach while his blue eyes looked into her eyes.
She laughed as her long nails ran down his face, slowly, "I was getting worried that you wouldn't wake up for your gift. The Dark Lord wants answers. If you don't answer them, then I will have to get them out of you."
"Like I would tell you anything," Charlie's voice cracked from being so dry.
"That's where you are wrong." She whispered in his ear as she circled around him, "You don't want anything to happen to that girl do you? Who knows… maybe the Dark Lord would let me have her instead. Crucio!"
Charlie's body shook and strained against the chains that tighten around his body. The chains began to cut into his arms and his legs. Blood roared in his ears as his bit down on his tongue, and blood spilled from the sides of his mouth. Bellatrix laughed more as the spell stopped. Charlie's head hung as his panted and spit blood on the floor. The chains loosen a bit, but not by much. He lifted his head up, glaring at Bellatrix.
"I won't tell you anything about her."
"Pity." Bellatrix said, "I was so hoping that you would have just rolled over like the dog that you are."
Bellatrix made a chair appeared in front of Charlie and sat down. A small smirk appeared on her face as she crossed her legs. His heart beat hard against his chest while he tried to calm down. He knew that Bellatrix wouldn't hold back on him. She was going to get her answers, and if he didn't tell her, he knew that she would kill him. He couldn't die yet. Lyra needed him, and he needed to figure out how to get out of here. Who knows what they were doing to her.
"So, tell me. This girl. Does she know where Harry Potter is?"
"Harry Potter?" Charlie looked at her, "I knew that you were crazy, but did you start to lose your memory? He's dead."
There was a flash of silver that caught his eye followed by pain that exploded from his chest. His body twisted which made the chains cut into his arms and legs. Charlie felt that something wet seep through his shirt while a metallic smell filled the air. He looked down to see that his black shirt had been cut and blood was spilling from a wound. When he looked up, Bellatrix was liking her dagger while smirking at him.
"I am sure that your mummy told you it is not smart to say that people are crazy." She said, calmly then put the dagger up to his throat, "Now tell me, does she know the location of where Potter is?"
"He's dead!"
Bellatrix flipped the dagger in her hand then stabbed his left thigh. Charlie yelled out in pain as his body jerked. The pressure of the chains started to cut his arms and legs. He could start to feel that he was losing more blood. Bellatrix smirked then twisted the dagger before pulling it out of his thigh.
"I guess you aren't lying." She said, "Now tell me, where is Hermione Granger."
"She's dead too!" Charlie said as his heart felt like it was squeezed, "Everyone is dead. Doesn't your Dark Lord know these things?"
Bellatrix's hand flashed out and slapped him across the face. Then she yelled out crucio. The pain got worst as he grind his teeth together while more blood covers the chains. His vision started to get dark from the pain and the lack of blood. Bellatrix grabbed his hair and yanked his head back. The pressure of the dagger travelled up his throat before resting on his cheek, right under his eye.
"You are weak. I am going to break you. You will tell me everything." Bellatrix hissed, "And when you do, you and the little girl will die."
Charlie couldn't hold on anymore. The darkness took him and then there was nothing.
When Charlie came to, he had no clue how long he was out. His body was in pain, but most of his wounds were healed. He looked at his arms to see that the cuts from the chains were semi-healed. The outline of the chains were very defined, but at least they weren't bleeding. Charlie didn't want to look at his chest or his legs. His chest was the most painful. Luckily, he wasn't shaking from the cruciatus curse, that meant there was no nerve damage or any brain damage. Exhaustion was setting in his body again, and all he wanted to do was to go back to sleep. Yet, he needed to know what time it was. He could have been out for a few hours or even a day. Charlie sighed softly. He couldn't believe that this brother, the only one that was left at this point, could do that to him. To Fred. To Lyra. Charlie wondered if Percy knew that she was his niece would he even care. Maybe he could have protected Lyra. Anger shot through Charlie's veins as he grinded his teeth. Percy will pay for this, he thought. Just as Charlie was about to try to get up, a door opened from down the hall. Quickly, he made his body go lax while his head hung down to his chest. Hopefully, he looked like he was still unconscious. Two sets of footsteps walked up to his cell. One set seem light and had a click from the user wearing heels. The other set shuffled their feet as they walk like they don't pick up their feet. It wasn't long before they stopped in front of his cell.
"Do you think he's awake, yet?" a cold female voice asked as it echoed in the cell.
"It has been two days. If he doesn't wake up, then he is probably dead." Percy's voice said. There was squeak as Charlie believed that the door opened followed by something dropping on the floor. Then something slid across the floor and hit his foot. Charlie tried hard not to let his body react to whatever hit his foot as the door squeaked and banged closed. "It would be bad luck if he died."
"Why? Do you still care for your older brother?"
"That is hardly the case, Narcissa." Percy growled, "We need to find out where he sent that girl. The Dark Lord needs her for some reason. Right now he is the only one that knows where she is. If he dies then that information dies with him!"
"No need to get all growling at me, Weasley. You need to remember how low you are on the chain of commands. It is your fault that the girl got away." Narcissa growled back, "You are foolish, and you need to get your head together. The Dark Lord will kill you if you mess up and don't bring him the girl."
The heels turned and walked away from the cell. Percy cursed under his breath then raced after Narcissa. Charlie raised his head and blinked. A smile came across his face as the tears fell. Lyra was safe. She was safe and they didn't have her. He was lying before. Charlie let out a tearful laugh as he wiped his face. He didn't care if he died anymore, all that matters is that she is safe. Charlie looked over and notice that there was a plate and a cup of water. The plate had two pieces of bread on it. Charlie grabbed a piece and started to chew on the semi-stale bread. He didn't care if he died, but he was curious to why Bellatrix wanted to know if Harry and Hermione was alive. He knew there was rumors about Harry being alive, but they were just rumors. There was no reason why he would still be alive. If Hermione knew, she would have been trying to tell Harry to get his ass in gear and fight for our lives. Charlie closed his eyes as he continued to chew on the bread. This was just getting more curious.
Lyra snuggled deeper into the blanket as the sun poured through one of the living room windows. Her blue eyes opened and for a second she was confused. Slowly, she sat up, looking around. Where am…. Oh… She thought as she bit down on her lip. She remembered that she thought she saw Uncle Charlie. How could she be so stupid? Of course Uncle Charlie wouldn't be here, stupid. You left him. You left him there with that Death Eater, She growled at herself. She should have stayed and fought to protect him. She should have never went through the portal.
Lyra yawned then smelled something cooking in the kitchen that made her stomach growl loudly. Curious, she got up and walked into the kitchen. George was standing in the middle of his kitchen, cooking breakfast. Quickly, she patted her hair down, and knew that it was not going to help the curls or the tangles.
"I see that you finally woke up." George teased as he turned around, "Did you sleep alright?"
"I'm sorry that I basically broke in your flat…" Lyra said softly, "I didn't know where to go…"
"Lyra, it's okay. Now sit down." George pushed her into a chair and put down a plate of food in front of her. "Eat or Mum would kill me for being rude."
Rolling her eyes, she looked down at the food in front of her. There was fried eggs, fried bacon and sausage, and some black pudding. She tilted her head and looked around.
"What no beans on fried bread?" She said, her voice filled with disappointment
George laughed, "I didn't think you would eat that."
"It is strange but I do love it."
George sat down and started to eat. He watched as Lyra just pushed her food around the plate. She was still thinking about last night and how she made such a fool of herself. She thought for one second that Uncle Charlie had gotten away from the Death Eaters, and followed her. Lyra sighed as she put down her fork.
"Thanks for breakfast, George." She said, "Do you have anything I could wear? I didn't pack for this sleepover."
"Don't you want to go back to my parents?"
"I… I can't face them… They must think I am stupid…"
Lyra got up and walked out of the room. Sighing, George got up and walked to his room. He grabbed the smallest shirt and pair of sweats that he had. There was no way that she would fit anything he had. He was too big, and she was a stick. George chuckled to himself, then walked to the living room. He heard her sniffling as he walked back in, and stopped. Lyra was curled up on the couch with her knees against her chest, wiping away the tears. It hit George that she was really alone in this world. She was a 16 year old with no family, and no one to take care of her. Even in her world, he didn't know if she was taken care of properly. That horrible world where Voldemort was in charge, who would enjoy living in that world. He walked up to her, and put the clothes out on the table. Her blue eyes were red as well as her nose. For a second, George thought if Lyra had brown eyes, she could pass for Hermione. He mentally shook his head, then patted her head.
"You can stay here as long as you want. I have an extra room that was my brothers." George said, "I can ask my brothers help me clean it out for you. I know that you are embarrassed, but there is no reason to be embarrassed. You are still family, you know. We all make embarrassing mistakes. If you want, we can go prank everyone in the family, then they will forget all about it."
"Thanks George." She smiled softly, then grabbed the clothes.
George watched as she walked towards the bathroom. When the bathroom door closed, George sent an owl to his mother and to Hermione. The one to his mother said that Lyra was safe and staying with him for awhile. Yet, the one to Hermione said that for the DNA potion, both him and Hermione need to be tested. George wrote to Hermione saying, "I think Lyra could be yours and Freds." He knew that Hermione would probably freak out, but also knew she wouldn't rush over here without proof first. The DNA potion will take 2 months to brew. This is going to be a long two months, George thought.
