Hermione woke up the day of the Gryffindor versus Slytherin match both nervous and excited for the day. She heard the shower start which meant Draco was up. She decided to do something for him to get him in a good mood for his first match of the year. She made herself look presentable and ran down to the kitchenette and made some coffee and called a house elf to bring her an omelet with all of Draco's favorite things in it. Right after the house elf popped away, Draco came down the stairs in his Quidditch gear and saw Hermione placing the plate and mug on the coffee table.
"What is this?"
"Oh, I didn't hear you come down. I just wanted to do something nice for you before your first match. I made some coffee and had an elf bring up an omelet with all of your favorite things in it."
Draco sat down and started to eat the omelet, "This is amazing. Thank you for doing this."
"Of course. So, are you nervous for the match today?"
After a sip of coffee, Draco answered, "No, not really. I know that I can beat Potter because I have before. I am actually excited. I love Quidditch and I heard that there might be some scouts here today."
"Really? That doesn't make you nervous at all?"
"No, I have been thinking about it. I love playing Quidditch and if these scouts see something in me, and they think I could play professionally, why not. Why would you want to be stuck in a job that you hate, when you could do something you love?"
Hermione nodded, "That is very true."
Draco looked at the time on his watch, "I should get down to the pitch and get the team warmed up." He started to get up before Hermione stopped him.
"Wait! I have to show you something. Just give me a couple of minutes." She ran up to her room.
Ten minutes past and Hermione came back down the stairs wearing her Gryffindor sweater and scarf.
"Really, that is what you wanted to show me, your house sweater."
Hermione laughed, "No, this is." She then proceeded to lift up her sweater and underneath was the t-shirt the she made last night with Astoria and Daphne.
Draco smirked, "Of course, how could I forget." Draco grabbed her hand and spun her around to see the back of the shirt where it said his name, "You may be a Gryffindor, but you will be cheering for me."
She pulled her sweater back down, "No, I will be cheering for my house and you. If Harry and Ron win I will be happy for them and if you win I will be happy for you."
"Whatever you say, Granger," Draco looked at his watch again, "Now I really have to go. It doesn't look to good if the captain is late to the first match."
"Probably not," Hermione said back, "Well, good luck, Draco."
"Thanks, Granger. I will see you later." He hesitated for a few seconds before picking up his bag and walking out the door.
After the door shut, Hermione fell back on the couch, "Well, good luckā¦that is all you could think of." She then dragged herself upstairs to shower and get ready for the match.
She entered the pitch and walked to the Gryffindor stands and sat with Neville, "Should be a good game today, don't you think Hermione?" he asked her.
"Yep, it should be. I have seen mostly everyone on each team play throughout the summer and they are evenly matched. Either team could win."
"Maybe, but Harry is still a much better seeker that Malfoy. He has never beaten Harry to the snitch."
"Maybe not here during the school year, but over the summer, there were many times that Draco did beat Harry to the snitch."
"But did they have the screaming of students to get them hyped up for the match?"
"Well, no."
"Well there you go. Malfoy will not beat Harry. There is no way that could possibly happen. Not with everyone here chanting Harry's name."
"I think you are underestimating the Slytherin team."
The match was dragging on and on. The teams' scores were tied and neither Harry nor Draco had spotted the snitch.
"I guess you were right. The Slytherin team is pretty good." Neville said to Hermione.
"It looks like both seekers have finally spotted the snitch." Colin Creevey said as he announced the match.
Hermione looked and she saw Harry and Draco racing towards the ground. All of a sudden they both pulled up and shot up towards the sky and into the clouds. Everyone was waiting in silence as they waited for the seekers to reappear, hopefully with one of them having caught the snitch. A few seconds later, both Harry and Draco appeared and flew back to the pitch and landed on the ground. Draco's hand shot up with the snitch in hand. The Slytherin stands erupted with glee as the team lifted their captain on their shoulders. The students ran onto the field to congratulate the winning team.
Hermione got down to the field and saw her sisters congratulating their boyfriends, which she expected. What she didn't expect was to see some small blonde attached to Draco's lips, with him looking like he was enjoying it. She decided to try and not be seen so she walked over to Harry, Ron and Ginny to congratulate them on a good match.
"Good match today guys." She said as she reached her friends.
"Thanks, Hermione. I just wish we would have won. We always beat Slytherin." Ron said.
"I know. They had been training a lot for this match. I don't think they were going to let you win that easily." Hermione replied.
"Draco cut right in front of me to grab the snitch. I knew he was fast, but I didn't expect him to be that fast. He must have really wanted to win." Harry said.
"Yeah, I can see why. I guess he really wanted the attention." Ginny said as she pointed over to the group of Slytherin students. He had a girl hanging off of each arm and it didn't look like it bothered him at all, "I guess some people don't change all that much."
Hermione didn't want to look. She knew that everything that had happened was too good to be true. Someone with a reputation like he had before the war obviously wasn't going to go away just like that.
After talking with her friends for a little longer, they decided they were going to have a little party in the Gryffindor common room to celebrate how well everyone played. Hermione said she would be right there; she just had to go change first.
She walked past the group of Slytherin students and tried to walk faster to try and pretend she didn't hear her name being called. She got to the castle before she felt someone grab her arm, "Hey, I called you name. Did you not hear me?" she wished it would have been anyone else, but it wasn't.
"What do you want?" she said without looking at him.
"I was going to invite you to the party in the Slytherin common room. You can come celebrate our win."
"Um, I was invited to my house's party so I am going to go there."
"What? Why? They didn't even win."
"They are my friends!"
"I thought we were too. Tori and Daph really want you to come; I really want you to come."
"Well I am sure you will find someone else to occupy your time with."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
Hermione scoffed, turning around to face him, "Maybe the blonde who was attached to your face, or one of the girls you had hanging off your arms. I'm sure you would enjoy their company much more than mine. Now let me go."
"Hey, that wasn't what it looked like. Please just come to the party. We can talk about it there."
"My friends are waiting for me. Please let me go, Malfoy."
"Wow, last naming me, huh. Fine, you don't want to believe me, that is your choice. I'll see you around." He let go of her arm and turned to walk back to the pitch. He tried hard to hide it, but Hermione saw what she thought was hurt in his eyes. She shook her head and walked back to her dorm.
She got to her room and shred her scarf and sweater. She looked in the mirror and saw the Slytherin shirt. She pulled it off and didn't know what she wanted to do with it, so she shoved it in the bottom of her trunk deciding she could do something with it later. She put her Gryffindor sweater back on and walked to her houses' common room, trying not to think about the sad look she saw in his grey eyes.
