Small raindrops fell across the city, gently falling wherever they pleased. The sun was still peeking through the clouds, almost like as it were in game of hide and seek. The weather itself seemed to play around with everyone. One minute it could be showering, the next could be nothing but sunshine. Either way, it left many people either prepared or unprepared for the sudden changes.
At the moment, a single raindrop fell onto a brunette's nose. Wrinkling her nose, she brushed away the stray droplet off. Standing next to the entrance of the park, she was only wearing her usual traveling clothes. Unaware of the weather's lack of decision, she had not been ready for any of the changes but still made no attempt to escape it.
Brushing her hair that was suppose to be kept back by her bandanna, she stayed where she stood. Glancing at her watch, she wrapped her arms around herself and sighed. Five minutes had already gone by and still there was no one in sight.
He was late.
Sitting down on the bench, she turned to look down at the small puddle growing at her feet, rippling with every new raindrop making its impact. Pulling on a small smile, she watched the various colours sparkle in the puddle before someone stepped into it.
Snapping out of her trance, she looked up at the late green haired coordinator that stood in front of her.
"You're late," she stated with a huff. Crossing her arms, she made an act of pretending to be mad at him. Might as well take the opportunity to do so when she could. "I didn't think you could be late."
"I'm not late," he retorted, doing his signature hair flick. "You're early."
"If you say so," she exclaimed as she rolled her eyes.
Drew leaned forward, their faces close, close enough for her to feel his breath on her cheeks.
"I do say so."
Giggling and playfully shoving him aside, May stood up. Sweeping out the stray strands of brown hair out of her face, she looked at her boyfriend imploringly. If he took the time to call her out and be late, clearly he had something planned. Judging by the nervous look in his eyes, she stopped herself from calling out and asking him.
"Did you know about the weather before asking me out?" May asked, glancing up at the cloudy sky. "I had no idea until I came to this park."
"Of course I did," Drew answered, holding up an umbrella. Reaching out to entwine their fingers, he flashed her one of his most charming smiles. "Besides, if I had told you, we wouldn't be able to share an umbrella together."
Reflecting his smile, May leaned into side comfortably. Letting him lead the way as they wandered around the park with the umbrella shielding their bubble of happiness, they reminisced the memories they had made since they started dating. From dates, meeting the parents to simply spending time together, they realized, they had been through a lot.
"It took you so long to confess to me," May said, thinking back to the beginning of their relationship. "I think I was the one who made you aware of my feelings before you confessed."
Drew chuckled, shrugging. "If I remember correctly, you also ran away from me that day."
Blushing, May buried her face into his shoulder. "Ugh... don't remind me!" she exclaimed with an embarrassed laugh.
Leaving the park grounds and ending up by the cliffs that overlooked the beaches near Slateport City, Drew grinned in recognition of the secluded location.
"I remember this place, you nearly hit me with your Frisbee!"
"Did not!"
"Right, right, because I caught it before it could. You're so lucky I have quick reflexes."
May gave him a exasperated look. "I'm lucky? How?"
Just as she took another step forward, she tripped over a rock that seemed to have vaporized in front of her. Before she even had to chance to crash into the ground, Drew's arm was wrapped around her waist and helped her back up.
"See, lucky," Drew replied.
"Yeah, yeah." May pouted, puffing her cheeks out. She turned to leave only to be pulled back to Drew's side because of their clasped hands. "Let's keep going... I'm more than happy not to let you show off your talents."
"But we're the perfect combo," he countered, walking next to her. "You're clumsy and I have killer reflexes that are there to save you, I think we work out perfectly."
Letting out an amused groaned, May silently watched Drew as they walked onwards. Sure, their walk had calmed his nerves, but he didn't show any signs of doing anything out of the ordinary anytime. Today was their four year anniversary of dating, so she was expecting something to happen.
So far?
Nothing.
"Hey, look there's the Slateport City Contest Hall," Drew pointed out. "Remember those days?"
"Ha, yup! We were still at each other's throats back then," she said. "Wow... who would have thought things would have come to this."
"Almost five years," the green eyed teen agreed. He pressed a kiss to her cheek. "You know today's our four year anniversary, right?"
Spinning around to look him in the eyes, hope surging in her heart. Perhaps he finally wanted to act out on his plans...? She nodded, waiting.
"Well..." Drew led her towards a bench, and the moment they both sat down, he pulled out a bouquet of roses. "Happy anniversary. I thought about giving these to you before the dinner I have planned but I didn't want to take the risk of you getting distracted by food. So, here."
May beamed, bringing the flowers up to her nose to breath in the sweet scent. After receiving so many flowers from Drew over the years, she loved them as much as she loved Drew and was still learning their meaning.
"Nine roses," she counted. "What does that mean?"
"I want to be with you forever, as long as I live." Drew explained. He twirled a single rose in his hand. "I would give you another one, since ten means you're perfect, but I think the truth is..." He leaned in, quietly whispering in her ear. "We're perfect together."
"You're so cheesy!" The brunette smiled, shaking her head slightly. "But I guess that's why I love you."
"I love you too," Drew replied. He took a deep breath, to settle his nerves. He would need every ounce of courage in him to say what needed to next. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small box. "May, I know we're both still young and naïve when it comes to thinking about our future, but there's one thing I'm sure of. I want to be with you." He opened the box to reveal two simple silver rings with the engraving of the words, 'forever yours'. "These are promise rings, because, I promise I will love you and want to be with you, forever. I'll always be yours, will you be mine?"
Hands covering her mouth in shock and surprise, May was stunned speechless. Eyes watering at how much thought that Drew had put into his plan, her mind blanked leaving her to use her actions to answer him. Nodding, she pulled Drew into a tight embrace as the tears overflowed. Despite how the day had started, things like the raindrops fell perfectly into place.
"I'm forever yours," she whispered, as Drew exchanged rings with her.
A raindrop fell, splatter onto his cheek. Reaching up to brush the water away, May grinned.
"Let's go see how perfect you can make this night."
"Challenge accepted."
Aww... so cute...! :')
