Quinn fidgeted nervously backstage. The Report was on in 10 minutes and she anything but calm. She just had to sit on the seats and look pretty; she didn't even have to talk! Quinn was out of her mind with worry. There were rumors that after this Report Prince Zach was going to eliminate some of the girls and Quinn was desperate to stay.
Mirabelle and April walked over, laughing over something that Mirabelle had said. "Hey Quinn! Are you ready for The Report?" Mirabelle asked excitedly.
Quinn groaned. "I'm so nervous that's it not even funny."
Taylor, who was standing by Quinn talking to Natalia and Estrella, snickered. "Wearing that dress I can see why you're nervous. Its just so unflattering, even I couldn't make it work."
Quinn felt pressure build up behind her eyes and she tried to keep her composure, Taylor always had to jab at her, never April or Mirabelle or any other of the girls. She knew she never threatened April because they and this messy past of drama and tabloids, and Mirabelle because she was the first date, and Quinn knew she was being whiny, but it actually really hurt.
April scoffed. "Please, you can't pull of any dress that you wear, your dress is practically falling off. It's a miracle that Leslie even let you in the room."
And it was true; Taylor was sporting a royal blue evening gown that had cutouts along the sides, and an open back that ended right above her butt. She had on life threatening stilettos and very little jewelry to show off her… large cleavage.
Taylor rolled her eyes. "I'm just dressing on how I think that Prince Zach would like."
Mirabelle choked on some water and started laughing. "You think Zach will like that?! Obviously you don't know him because… Oh wait! You haven't even gone on a date yet. My bad for thinking you knew him," Mirabelle exclaimed.
Taylor rolled her eyes, but stalked away all the same with Natalia and Estrella flanking her sides.
"Will all Ladies of the Selected please make their way towards the risers. Thank you!" Gavril announced over the loudspeaker.
"Time for our close ups!" April squealed.
Quinn nodded, but didn't say anything. She felt sick to her stomach with nerves. Quinn was seated next to Camille Montpelier and Emilia Smith and she was beyond nervous (or that could have been excitement, who knows!)
"Lady Quinn! Lady Emilia" Camille called from the stands. "You're sitting next to me!"
Leslie scolded Camille, "Lady Camille a Lady never yells across the room."
Camille laughed. "But Miss Leslie, I was simply calling my partners in The Report to come and sit with me. Certainly a Lady is able to call her friends to come sit with her?"
Leslie opened her mouth to respond but was cut off with the sound of the director of The Report counted one minute till airtime.
"Don't think you have gotten away with this Lady Camille," Leslie scolded again.
Quinn made her way up to her seat and sat down in the "Dominica" spot.
"Sorry about yelling across the room to you," Camille apologized with a shrug of her shoulders. "Sometimes I really can't help myself!"
Quinn giggled and stared at her shoes. She was wearing a pale pink strapless dress with pearl accessories and white pumps. But Camille was absolutely radiate in her silver shimmery dress with a crisscrossed back.
"Do you see how gorgeous Princess December and Princess Amber look and Princess Lauren; I read in a magazine that December completely hates attention, but look at her! She is completely gorgeous! How could the press not love her!?" Camille gushed as the royals sat in their chairs, getting situated for The Report.
Princess December was looking fabulous in a white dress that had an empire waist, but was A-line. She had on white strappy heels, and accented the outfit with a key pendant and diamond studs.
Princess Amber had on a white dress also, but had golden leaves that accented the sides and had on golden heels. She had on a golden heart pendant and golden flower earrings.
Princess Lauren had on a deep red dress that was accessorized with a diamond necklace, bracelet, and earrings. She has had on silver heels.
"I agree," Quinn whispered. "And Prince Jeremiah is practically drooling over Princess December! I ship them!"
Camille squealed. "Uh same! They would make sure a cute couple! OTP anybody?"
"Shush," Emilia Smith whispered as Leslie sent them a look that could kill.
"Sorry Em," Camille responded. "We'll try and be quieter."
Emilia rolled her eyes and focused back on the royal family.
"I absolutely adore the British royal family. They are all so elegant and uh! So amazing!" Camille gushed.
Quinn giggled and finally focused her attention of Gavril who was counting down the beginning of the Report.
"Hello ladies and gentlemen across Illea!" Gavril announced. "And welcome to The Report! Tonight we get the first look of the girls after a week of staying at the palace. 10 girls have been eliminated so far and they are: Lady Leslie Summers from Atlin, Lady Hilary Brandon from Carolina, Lady Zoe Carbonell from Denbeigh, Lady Amanda Lee from Honduragua, Lady Carter McKay from Hudson, Lady Maren Willis from Ottaro, Lady Kendall Carlyle from Sota, Lady Lily Campell from St. George, Lady Rebecca Ballo from Whites, and Lady Amanda Wade from Zuni."
Gavril continued to talk about the latest updates for the food and clothing drives for the people in Sumner because of a hurricane that destroyed most of the cities there. As the announcements drew to a close, Quinn fidgeted as the interviews drew closer.
"So Illea sit back and get to know your Selected! First we have Lady Kimberly Jennings from the home province of the palace, Angeles! Hello Lady Kimberly," Gavril said as he stood up to shake Kimberly's hand.
Kimberly beamed and walked over to Gavril. She was wearing a flowy hot pink dress with a thigh high slit. She sat down in the chair next to Gavril and winked in the direction of Prince Zach.
"Hello Lady Kimberly, how has your stay at the palace been?" Gavril asked.
Kimberly beamed. "Well the palace has been great so far! I love love love the rooms and all the clothes that the maids make for me!"
"Have you gone on any dates yet?"
Kimberly frowned. "Not yet, but I expect to go on one soon," and with that she winked in Zach's direction.
Gavril chuckled and asked Kimberly a few more questions, all of which she answered with too much enthusiasm.
"Next up we have Lady Mirabelle Williams from Allens. Also the girl that got the first date!"
Quinn beamed at how gorgeous her friend looked. Mirabelle was also wearing a bright pink dress, but she was wearing a more modest dress and it had a high neckline and was more sculpted then sultry.
"So Lady Mirabelle how was the date? We heard some great things about it!"
Mirabelle blushed and folded her hands in her lap. "Well I had a great time, we went horse back riding and talked about ourselves and family and everything in between!"
Gavril chuckled. "What has been the most surprising thing about the palace so far?"
Mirabelle thought for a moment. "Well I have definitely noticed that Prince Zach is not what he seems. We see him as this supreme figure that is strong and God-like, but really he's a person who has annoying little sisters, no offense Princess Amber, and a person that is much more nervous about this experience then he lets on."
"Wow now we see what other see Prince Zach. Do you like spending time with the prince?"
"I actually do. He wants to get to know me and who I am, and sometimes its so refreshing talk to someone other than a girl."
"Who do you think you are the closest with in the competition?"
"I definitely think that I am closest with April and Quinn, they welcomed me into their circle when no else had the guts to do so."
"Okay last question, would you rather be a rabbit or a lizard?"
Mirabelle giggled. "What kind of question is that? But I would rather be a rabbit since they are fuzzy and adorable."
"So now you know it Illea, Lady Mirabelle would rather be a rabbit than a lizard, she likes to spend time with the prince and is overall a very sweet person! Any last words Lady Mirabelle?"
"Thank you for giving me this experience!"
"Thank you Lady Mirabelle!"
After Mirabelle, Vivien Smoutan went. She was wearing a long red high-low dress and was very quiet during the interview. She didn't really interact as much as Mirabelle and Kimberly did.
Antonia Luce went after Vivien. She was loud and boisterous, joking around with Gavril and making it a fun experience. She insisted that Gavril called her Lady Toni, because Antonia was her grandmother and made her feel so much older than she already was. Toni was wearing a white dress with a gold belt. It had a plunging neckline and strappy back, but Toni made it look classy and elegant.
"Next up we have Lady Marcella Devony from Belcourt!" Gavril announced. "Hello Lady Marcella, how has your stay at the palace been?"
Marcella was wearing a black mermaid style gown, with an empire waist and fitted sides and bust. It brought out the curves she had, while still being modest and elegant.
"Well I love the palace so far, some of the people are amazing and they understand that even though I was a low class dancer before, I am an actual person and didn't choose to be treated differently."
"I see. How has the palace been different then back home?"
"Well I'm getting fed everyday, but I still have to be on guard everyday because you never know what you can be assaulted with! Mascara wands, flatirons, and curling irons! Anything!"
"Do you like the change of having the leisure of wearing pants to having to wear dresses and gowns all the time, plus being assaulted with makeup?"
Marcella shrugged. "I think that it's definitely a change, but I still really enjoy this experience."
Gavril chuckled. "What has been the most memorable part of your experience so far?"
"Well probably all the people that I've met so far. I think that this was an eye opening experience because I got to meet people from all over Illea and all over the caste system."
Marcella answered a few more questions before she waved at the camera and headed back to her seat.
"Next up we have Lady Aalihya Rosenwood from Bonita!" Aalihya was wearing a pale pink dress that had silver sparkles that decorated the bodice. She walked over to the chairs, sat down, and picked up the microphone. "Hello Lady Aalihya how are you doing?"
"Truthfully, I've been better," Aalihya responded with a shrug.
Gavril looked around comically, "Is there something wrong with this amazing palace?"
Aalihya chuckled. "I assure you it has nothing to do with the palace or the company here. I had some family issues that have just recently I received some really horrible news and it kind of dampened the idea of the Selection."
Gavril frowned. "Would you care to share this new with us Lady Aalihya?"
Aalihya visibly swallowed. "Well the other day, maybe last week, I found out that my younger sister had been in a car accident and is suffering some life threatening injuries. Even though she is sort of a pre-Madonna she still is my sister and I love her," a few tears leaked out of Aalihya's eyes.
"After I heard the news, I acted very rashly towards Lady Emilia and Lady Jocelyn and I wanted to apologize. I never usually act like that, but I let the nerves and the stress get to me. I'm sorry for that"
"Well Lady Aalihya, I hope that everything gets better. So everyone is Illea, whatever you believe in, please pray for Lady Aalihya's little sister who was in a terrible accident. I want to thank you Lady Aalihya for talking about this to us." Gavril placed a comforting hand on Aalihya's arm.
"So with on a lighter note, Lady Aalihya how would you describe yourself?"
Aalihya softly smiled. "I would consider myself a very passionate person for what I believe in. I am also one of the girls in a lower caste and I feel very strongly to make a point that I am not what my caste is."
"Very powerful words. I think that if the Selection doesn't end up working out for you—I'm not saying that it won't—we could be seeing Lady Aalihya Rosenwood a future leader."
Aalihya blushed and nodded. She thanked Gavril as she made it back to her seat.
…
"… and now we have Lady Ivory Walsh from Columbia!"
Ivory swallowed nervously and stood up. She had seen Noelle Jenner and Stella Starling go, and having to watch everyone before her had not helped her nerves. Noelle had been sweet and kind—wearing a high-necked teal dress with designs on the bust—while Stella had been the complete opposite.
Stella had worn a dress that was orange and made its way down to yellow at the end. She had a plunging neckline and was constantly leaning forward throughout the interview, giving Gavril, and the cameras, an appalling view down her dress. Throughout the entire interview she had been sending sultry winks towards Zach, and Ivory could barely contain her giggles.
Ivory walked up to the chairs and sat down. She fiddled with the microphone and touched her hair, checking once the more that the updo hadn't fallen out of place.
"Well hello Lady Ivory, how are you today?" Gavril asked.
Ivory resisted the urge to wipe her hands one her dress. "Well I'm definitely nervous, this interview has been keeping worried all day."
"But it's only your most trusting group of Illean citizens, only people all over the country are watching!"
Ivory huffed good-naturally. "You aren't making this better Gavril!"
Gavril chuckled, as well as the other royals, and Ivory started to relax.
"So Lady Ivory, if you weren't going to win, who do you think would?"
Ivory thought for a moment. "I definitely think that Genevieve Braun or Camille Montpelier would do really well as the queen. But honestly haven't thought about it that much."
Gavril nodded. "What are you looking most for the Selection?"
"I'm definitely looking forward to all the parties we are having. We are having the garden parties to welcome the English royalty tomorrow and I'm really excited! The food has been amazing also!"
"Ahhh another food lover. I remember the days when Queen America was in the Selection and said she was only there for the food. A moment to remember!" Gavril said winking at Queen America.
"I loved the palace food so much I decided to stay," The Queen joked and kissed King Maxon on the cheek.
Ivory giggled and answered a few more questions from Gavril, and surprisingly didn't make any mistakes. When it was over she was filled with relief.
…
Quinn calmly touched her hair and her necklace. Her nerves had multiplied since the start of the Report. Emilia Smith had gone before Quinn and she done had done really really well. She had made all of Illea fall in love with her. She had worn a hot pink one shouldered dress that had embellishments along the torso. She had answered the questions with grace and humility, while being cheerful and open.
Quinn stood tall and made her way down to the stairs to the chairs that were set up by Gavril. As she sat down, she grabbed the microphone and little to tight, making her knuckles white.
"How are you, Lady Quinn?" Gavril asked, saying the question that he had started the interview with every girl with.
"I have had a great time! I think that some of the girls that are here really nice, others not so much, but I definitely have made some really amazing friends! Lady April and Lady Mirabelle are definitely my best friends here," Quinn answered.
"Who do you think would make the best Queen, other than yourself of course?"
"I think that Mirabelle and April would make amazing queens because they are both amazing to be around an dare always making other people feel special."
"So you are a pianist and singer, correct?" Gavril asked.
"Yes I am," Quinn answered, a little confused about the question.
"What is your favorite thing about your career?"
Quinn took a deep breath, now this was something that she would happily talk about. "I love that I am able to play music all day, and do something that I have a deep passion for. I think that my job has helped become closer with myself, as well with my family."
"Would you rather do a duet with Princess December or Princess Amber?" Gavril asked.
Quinn frowned, she had never thought about that. "I haven't ever thought about it… but I think I would have to go with Princess December because the clarinet sounds really great with the piano, no offense Princess Amber."
December chuckled from her seat on the throne. "I would love to do a duet with you also Lady Quinn, I have heard you play. You are very talented."
Quinn blushed and looked at her hands. "Thank you so much. That means a lot coming from you."
Quinn answered more questions from Gavril, but never left the high of being complimented on live television from the Princess of Illea.
…
Camille did the breathing techniques that her acting coach taught her. This was just another chance to prove to the world that she was an amazing actress. When Quinn returned to her chair, Camille gave her a warm smile and a slight nod.
"… please welcome Lady Camille Montpelier from Fennley!" Gavril announced.
Camille put on a heartwarming smile as she walked down the stairs to the chairs set up.
"Hello Lady Camille, how are you?"
"I am fine, thank you."
"Well how has your stay at the palace been so far?"
"It's been magical! I have met a ton of new people that I wouldn't have ever met before this and I think that I have made some really amazing friends."
"Oh really, I thought you would have met tons of people when you were on the sets of movies?"
Camille giggled. "You would think that I would have learned the culture of many places, but I was rarely allowed to be on my own. I have met a ton of people, but they are all the same. I have met people here that I would never have thought of learning how they were and that's what makes this experience worthwhile!"
Gavril chuckled. "Very well spoken Lady Camille. If you were to become Queen, how would you make Illea a better place?"
Camille inwardly groaned. The other girls got questions like how would you wear your hair or would you rather go on a dinner or lunch date, but she got a question that could get her judged by all of Illea.
"Well I think that Illea would be a place where people are more open-minded. They would be more into taking risks and taking more chances.
Gavril nodded. "I can see Illea being more like that!"
He asked her a few more questions, and when she was done, Camille cheered in her head. She was finished with her first Live interview at the Selection. She was ecstatic for the rest of the night.
…
Lady Aria was called to the chairs. She was wearing an evergreen colored dress that had been flowy and had a sparkly design on the bodice. She had started out more one the quiet side, but once she got comfortable she became very outgoing and sweet. She had left a good impression on the people of Illea.
After Lady Aria, Lady Jocelyn went, but she insisted that Gavril call her Jace or Lady Jace. She was a little more bossy and preferred to stay in charge of the interview, not liking when a question cam to her that she wasn't prepared for. But all the same, she still made an impression that was different then the other girls. Jace had worn a deep red strapless gown that was cinched in the middle with a silver belt.
When Lady Jocelyn had sat back down, Lady Bronte was up next. She had a louder, but sweet and naïve tone to her interview. Bronte had captured the hearts of more then just the lower castes and the royal family during her interview. She had worn a pale green sleeveless dress that had flowers on the neckline.
Genevieve wrung her hands together. She was going after Bronte who had been so amazingly sweet and adorable and everyone had loved her. Yes Genevieve was proud of her friend, but she was still nervous beyond compare. She walked up to the chairs and sat down.
"Hello Lady Genevieve! How are you today?"
"I'm doing great, thanks for asking Gavril. How are you doing?"
"I'm doing fabulous! I have been interviewing you girls all night," Gavril said with a wink.
Genevieve giggled and rolled her eyes. "I'm not that interesting, but thank you for the compliment anyway."
Gavril chuckled. "Very modest Lady Genevieve? So how has your stay been at the palace?"
"It's been really amazing. I think I have really improved in my Go-Fish skills."
"Have you been playing recently?"
"I have been playing a lot of card games recently because of the fact that I have had more free time on my hands. I even beat Princess Amber and Princess December."
"Oh really? Is this true Princess December, Princess Amber?" Gavril asked with an eyebrow raised.
Princess December shrugged her shoulders. "What can I say? I suck at Go-Fish, and Amber cheats."
Genevieve giggled, as did most of the other Selected. "You weren't that bad Princess December!"
December shrugged her shoulders and chuckled, "you don't have to try and make me feel better, I know I am terrible and I have come to terms with it."
"Would you rather wear your hair up or down, Lady Genevieve?"
"I think I would rather wear it down because then I don't feel so uptight and having this responsibility to be as high and mighty as the updo."
"Oh really, very interesting philosophy Lady Genevieve. What would be your greatest accomplishment before the Selection?"
"I'm a teacher in Lakedon and one of my students, named Jordyn, was a 6. She couldn't read or write but wanted to apply for a job as a secretary. So she came to me and I think that teaching her to read and write was my biggest accomplishment because she had dyslexia. I will always remember the look on her face when she finished reading a paragraph from Romeo and Juliet and actually understood it."
"That is very touching Lady Genevieve," Gavril said.
Genevieve answered more questions, and with each one she sounded more kind and a person that wants to help people.
After Genevieve, Macy Culverhouse went. She was more poised and reserved, but you could tell by her posture that she was a dancer. Macy had been very sweet when she answered some of the questions, and the audience had loved her. Macy had worn an ice blue one shouldered dress that had a sparkly design on the bodice. It looked very similar to Lady Aria's dress, but had a similar design and similar silhouette.
Ondine was interviewed after Macy and had been very sophisticated and proper throughout the entire interview. She had been the most princess-ly out of all the girls that had gone that night, but didn't have as much personality. Ondine had worn a blue sculpted dress that was very regal.
After Ondine went Lady Cecilia was interviewed. She was loud and outspoken, but she had a charm that made everyone want to be around her. Cecilia had worn a tan dress that had glitter on the bust and lightly made its way down to the bottom of the dress. She had been glowing with happiness of being interviewed by Gavril.
When Cecilia sat down, Isabella Loundan went next. She was much quieter and more reserved then most of the girls. She hadn't been very talkative and mostly spoke with short answers. She had worn a strapless red mermaid gown.
April clenched her fists together in her lap. Its wasn't that she was nervous, no she was perfectly ready for this interview, it was that Taylor kept making snarky comments about what each girl said and what each one wore (If the dress made them look fat or if the dress was completely out of style) to Natalia.
It didn't help that she had no friends sitting near here. On one side was Victoria Keynes, having bright red hair—she was wearing an empire waist white ball gown—and was more on the quiet side and was ignoring Taylor to no end. On April's other side was Natalia Grace Whitney, and oh my goodness that girl was annoying! She was like Taylor's lap dog! So when Quinn went and Taylor made a comment about how ugly she looked, April snapped.
"You don't look any better. You look like you forgot to put on half your dress. Don't insult Quinn—or any of the girls for that matter—because you look like trash," she whisper-yelled.
Taylor rolled her eyes, but kept her comments to a minimum. After Victoria had gone, being more on the quiet side, but still told all her opinions. April stood up to walk down the risers to the chairs. As she got to the floor, she tripped over her heels that were far to high for their own good. She giggled nervously, but kept on walking.
As she sat down, she noticed that Taylor was furiously whispering with Natalia (sporting a casual smirk), and Mirabelle and Quinn shot her looks of sympathy. She pulled her shoulders back and sat down.
"Well Lady April, normally I would start an interview with how has your stay at the palace been, but I think we should address what just happened," Gavril said good-naturally.
April chuckled. "I may be a world class swimmer, but I am the hugest klutz you will ever meet!"
Gavril laughed. "So how has the transition from waking up at 4:30 every morning and working out to being here at the palace?"
"Its not as different as you may think. We still have to get up really early to get ready for the day—as much as a pain that is—and it feels like a workout to be doing the things we have to do on a daily basis."
"Have you gotten a date with the prince yet?"
"Nope, but I'm ok with that. I think that he has 25 girls that he needs to date at once, and he's a busy prince."
"Do you think your chance in the Selection has shifted with the arrival of the British royal family?"
"I don't think so, I think that it's been an exciting change that will definitely shift Prince Zach's view on some of the girls."
"What are you looking for in the future, Lady April?"
"I don't really know… I think I'm looking for someone that will take the good with the bad. Who will be able to look past my many flaws—clumsiness included—and want me for who I am, that's what I am looking for in the future."
Gavril chuckled, and April answered a few more questions before she went back to her seat.
…
Taylor tapped her, perfectly manicured, fingernails on her knee when Natalia was being interviewed. Natalia was trying to be sultry and sexy, keyword trying. Taylor rolled her eyes at Natalia's attempt to try and get the attention of the Prince. Natalia had opted out for a daring red dress that had a thigh high slit and sparkly neckline.
When Natalia sat back down next to Taylor, Taylor put on a fake smile and told Natalia what a great job she had done. When she was called, Taylor gracefully stepped down to the floor; she wasn't going to fall like April had. She sat down in the chair next to Gavril and purposely leaned forward, giving the cameras a clear shot down her dress.
"So Lady Taylor, how are you tonight?" Gavril asked.
"I am perfectly fine," Taylor purred, she was anything but nervous because she had bribed her maids to figure out what they were being asked. She had been practicing all morning.
"So Lady Taylor are you enjoying your stay at the palace so far?"
"Yes I have been having the best time. You could say the company is quite splendid," Taylor said, leaning forward just a little more.
"Oh really? Have you gotten a date yet with the Prince?"
"Oh no not yet! But I'm expecting one soon. But I meant that I had made some really good friends, like Lady Natalia and Lady Estrella."
"So you are an actress, what is your favorite thing about your career?"
"I think definitely being able to morph into another person, becoming someone that you aren't, someone that is so completely different from yourself that you just want to continue to play that part. At some point I think that my job doesn't become playing different roles, its me becoming another person."
That was an answer that Taylor did not have to practice for long. Becoming people is what she essentially does, so playing the bitch in the Selection was not any different.
"What motivates you to work hard in the Selection and in your career?"
"I think that the possibility that Ill be that one person left at the end of this is what drives me to work harder. The fact that I could be The One makes everything better."
Taylor answered a few more questions, but at the end of the interview, Taylor was sitting up straight an answering them truthfully, not what she had practiced.
Maeve went after Taylor. She had worn an empire waist aquamarine dress that had a sparkly bodice. She had been fun loving and energetic. She was enthusiastic about her answers, yet she was poised and princess-ly.
"… so thank you Illea for joining us tonight, I'm Gavril and see you all next week."
…
Hey guys… so I've been thinking about this story a lot lately. When I started this a year ago I think that I had no idea what I was doing and I had no inspiration. After a year of thinking about this I have decided to stop writing A Day in the Life of the Selected think this came to me when I was writing the last few chapters and decided that the chapters have become to forced and most of the characters didn't have any detail.
But I really love writing SYOC's (and hey are really popular currently) so I've decided that I'm going to create a new one. I know what you all are thinking "She didn't finish this one, so why would she write a new one?!" Well I have a lot of good ideas that I could use and with a more detailed form I think I could make them work!
But I did pick a The One and The Elite before this and I think some of you will really like it! If I decide to write this new story I will tell you the Elite and The One in the next story so stay tuned for it!
Tell me what you think in the reviews!
Love you all!
