Today is June 30, 2014 – Three years, to date, from the time I posted the first chapter of Alchemical Equations, a story later to be retitled In Truth, None of it Was Fiction.
I was fresh out of middle school then, undertaking my very first writing project – ever. A year later, I finished Truth & Fiction with 69 chapters and a total of 160,080 words. I began a sequel titled The Unseen World, which remains unfinished to this day with 11 chapters and 38,380 words.
Last summer, I decided it was time to rewrite the series. My writing style and ability changed and improved drastically in the year I was writing Truth & Fiction, and it is painfully obvious when one goes back and rereads it (I don't recommend it). There were plot holes and undeveloped characters and some (many) dropped plots and discrepancies between the first and last chapters.
At last, three years later, I return with the same characters and present to you Rewriting Fiction – a story some of you have been waiting for rather eagerly and some of you had forgotten about until reading the notice saying this was up.
It's good to be back, let me tell you that.
This was – and still is, as I'm not done yet – a huge undertaking, and I would like to thank the following users for all the help they've given me along the way:
Nikkome Konno – for reading through my first chapters and putting together a great playlist for me, and for being the first person I hashed out my 'endgame' plot with. She was a staunch supporter of the Original, and I hope for this one as well.
Marmaroth – for reading through my first chapters and giving me great feedback, especially as far as character growth was concerned. I was honored that she agreed to read through my chapters for me, as her fic is one of my favorites, and I took her advice to heart.
MissFictionFreak – for being my 'critical reviewer' and for pointing out to me exactly what it was I needed to improve on, and for getting me that info on gymnasts. I hope this version finally meets her requirements for a 'favorited' story :)
Blackrose414 – for staying with me for the past three years, even though her interest in the fandom has waned. She was my go-to consultant for the original, and even for questions I had about FMA for this one.
The Best Kind of Mad – for her lovely wonderful fanart and for listening to me rave on and on about various things. For rewriting scenes where I had no clue what I was doing. For discussing headcanons and characterization and basically everything, despite the time zone difference.
Warriorchickenz – for being there for me to consult with about basically everything, and for being my personal cheering squad when I finished chapters. She's a good friend of mine IRL, and her feedback and opinions have been what kept me going.
And finally
RYNO IV – my Main Man, my Grade-A Cheesecloth, the latest member to join my team but by far my most valuable. I thank him for being the voice of reason when I was about to go haring off on some wild direction or theory, and for being so reliable, getting back to me with detailed answers and ideas for my questions when others did not. I always know I will get a response, whether it will be within a day or a week.
I would also like to thank everyone who ever reviewed either In Truth, None of it Was Fiction or The Unseen World. Inever would have gotten this far without all of you.
Story Disclaimer:
I do not own any characters, settings, or events that you have previously before seen in any works by Hiromu Arakawa, Aniplex, or Funimation. While the first chapters of this story do take place in a real town in Massachusetts, all people are fictional. As I do not live in Somerville, I have taken liberties with any establishments you may recognize.
That being said, I do own Karmyn Dallas, Katherine Greene, and any other OCs in this story unless stated otherwise. Please do not use these characters without my permission. If you do fanart, this does not apply as long as you're not making money off it. The only requirement there is that you must give me a link to it! :)
I know I'm not supposed to post authors' notes as chapters, but I feel this one is important and I will be keeping it here. Please do not report me for it, because you can simply press the 'next' button and continue on to the real story even at the time I am posting this.
I do hope you enjoy – I've put a lot of time into this 'verse over the years. I was rereading my reviews from In Truth, None of it Was Fiction recently, and I very nearly cried. You all are wonderful human beings. I fear that this rewrite will not live up to the expectations you have set for me, but I have tried my best.
Yours always,
KarmaHope ^.^
