A/N: So this it: we have finally come to the end of this story. I just want to thank each and every one of you that has stuck with it and given it great reviews. There are no words to articulate how much that means. Of all the stories that I have written, this is the one that matters most. It was so important that I get this right not only because Walt Disney's Mary Poppins is such a cinematic masterpiece that transcends generations and is as much loved today by many as it was upon initial release in 1964. It was important also for a personal reason. Dick Van Dyke is without a doubt my greatest influence. Therefore, it was imperative that I honoured his portrayal of Bert with absolute accuracy. I certainly tried (utilising many of Dick's mannerisms and star quality techniques that make him inimitable and the greatest physical comedic actor the world has seen) so hopefully it showed. Anyway, enough from me; hope you enjoy this chapter, gang. Please, send me your thoughts. Later : )

For the last few days, Mary Poppins had been enduring a pattern of irregular sleep. Ordinarily she could acquire four or five hours and awake refreshed – ready for the day's tasks that lay ahead. However, this was not the case as of late. Mary Poppins suspected that her insomniac problems were due to anxiety over her pending nuptials. Of course, being a pragmatic woman, Mary Poppins frowned upon such thoughts. "What was there to be nervous about?" She thought as she lay wide awake in bed. "I love Bert and he loves me and so it seems appropriate for us to marry. Neither one of us have any reservations...Oh, what is the matter with me?" Mary Poppins threw back the quilt, got out of bed and began to dress and continued signing.

I've always longed for adventure,

To do the things I've never dared,

Now, here I'm facing adventure,

Then why am I so scared?

She paused for a moment while looking at her reflection in the mirror.

"I'm about to marry Bert..."

Catching sight of fear in her eyes; Mary Poppins shook her head and asked her reflection in an authorative tone:

"What's so fearsome about that?"

Receiving no response, Mary Poppins turned and grabbed her coat from the stand and quietly marched from the nursery. She Slid down the banister so as not to disturb the household and upon reaching the hall, looked up the stairs momentarily before stepping outside. Once she reached the gates of Number 17, she began singing again as she proceeded to the park.

Oh, I must stop these doubts, all these worries,

If I don't I just know I'll turn back,

I must dream of the things I am seeking

Stopping at the gates of the park, Mary Poppins admitted that:

I am seeking the courage I lack

With a heavy sigh, Mary Poppins sat on the wooden bench at the left hand side. Closing her eyes, she rested her head against the wall behind and inhaled the crisp morning air. However, her reverie was disturbed by a very familiar voice.

"So, I am guessing that you couldn't sleep either Mary Poppins." Smiling, she slowly opened her eyes to find Bert leaning against the wall wearing his characteristic bright smile.

"It is rather peculiar, Bert. Seldom do I have difficulty sleeping but I suppose this occasion is rather different." Bert lightly nodded his head in comprehension as he came and sat beside her.

"It is a day of mixed emotions, Mary Poppins. Although many people dream about their wedding day and hope that they will 'ave a fairytale ending so to speak; it is also a day of anxiety."

"How do you mean, Bert?" Leaning forward and clasping his hands together, Bert explained his sentiments.

"Marriage is per'aps the biggest commitment that two people make to one another. I 'ave no qualms about our wedding Mary Poppins". Bert exclaimed, turning his head and facing her before she could interject. "But, it is still scary or am I alone in this regard?" He asked with a light smile.

"No, Bert, I assure you that my stomach is tangled in knots. Although I am somewhat nervous about "taking the plunge", I also know that it feels absolutely right. For the first time in my life I feel completely content and know exactly where I want to be." Mary Poppins replied smiling serenely.

"So, you won`t leave me standing alone at the altar while you fly over London on your parrot headed umbrella?" Bert enquired humorously, sitting back and panning his hand across the air.

"No, I assure you Bert that I will never again run away from you." Swinging his arm across her shoulder and crossing his legs, Bert said jokingly:

"That`s good because I reckon Kat Alfred would come back and haunt you."

"It`s funny that you should mention your mother, Bert, because she has been playing on my mind a lot lately. In particular, memories of her rushed through my mind for most of the night." Bert nodded his head once in comprehension, removing his arm from its current position and folding both across his chest.

"I 'ave been thinking about her a lot too and my dad." Bert admitted with an air of solemnity. 'Ow proud they both would be of us if they were 'ere today. It`s days like these that I wish they were still 'ere but at least I 'ave granddad." Bert acknowledged complacently, joining his hands and resting them on his lap. Mary Poppins watched Bert mask his sorrow with his constant kindness. Taking his hand, Mary Poppins softly replied:

"I miss them greatly too, Bert but I know they are so proud of you and that they are with us in spirit." Smiling warmly at her, Bert kissed her at the temple and said:

"Thank you sweet'eart; per'aps we should go and get ready before a search party is sent out for us."

"Yes, I expect that you are right. Jane and Michael would be at the helm." Bert laughed lightly as he pulled Mary Poppins off the bench.

"Oh, it is nearly 8 O' clock: granddad is due at the 'ouse soon and Mr Banks and Michael are expected over to the 'ouse at 9."

"Yes, and I have Sally and Uncle Albert calling at Number 17 around that time too."

"So, this is it." Bert exclaimed jovially with outstretched arms

"The beginning of the rest of our lives together. " Mary Poppins concluded wistfully, joining her hands with his, standing and starring into Bert's eyes. Bert stood transfixed smiling subtly yet kindly. Suddenly, Mary Poppins lunged at him, wrapping her arms around his back as she softly conveyed:

"See you at the church, Bert"

"I'm already counting down the minutes, Mary Poppins." Bert replied as he held her tightly.

"Shouldn't you two be at home getting ready?" Admiral Boom loudly enquired from his rooftop. Relinquishing from one another, Bert looked up at the Admiral while Mary Poppins looked abashed.

"Yes, Admiral, we are just on our way." Bert replied laughingly.

"Well, get a move on then. Spit Spot as you say Mary Poppins."

"Yes, thank you Admiral. See you soon, Bert."

"Bye." Bert retorted and watched her leave. Once she had arrived at the gates of Number 17, he ventured home to get ready.

8:30

Standing in front of the mirror in his bedroom, fastening his shirt, thoughts of his mother came to Bert's mind. All his life, Bert had relied on his mother's kindness and wisdom but since Kat's passing twelve years ago, there was an empty space in his heart. Gradually that void was filled via his multiple friends and family. However, today he thought about her a lot especially as Kat Alfred was culpable in uniting him and Mary Poppins.

"Come on Bert, love, we are going to be late for dinner and you know 'ow much of a stickler for time your granddad is."

"Just give me one minute, mom".

"One minute, one minute...that boy of mine is gonna 'ave to work on 'is punctuality. Oh, 'ello Mary, love. Don't you look nice?"

"Thank you Kat but I would much rather fly to the moon than go on a date with another suitor." Mary Poppins conveyed despondently, fiddling with the clasp on her bracelet.

"I'm sure your parents are only doing what they reckon is best for you." Kat replied and seeing her struggling, fastened the clasp on her bracelet.

"Yes, but Kat, they have never once asked what I want. I'm growing tired of these arrangements. Sometimes I wish I could just disappear. I doubt anybody would even notice."

"I would notice, Mary Poppins." Bert retorted, sliding down banister.

"Oh, Bert Alfred! If I see you sliding down that banister once more, I'll cut off your legs!" Bert smiled apologetically at his mother who stared at him angrily.

"Sorry mom." Bert said, kissing Kat on the cheek.

"Yeah...well now you listen 'ere to me Mary Poppins: I don't wanna 'ear none of that talk from you again. You are a beautiful, smart and gracious young woman 'ho any fella with any sense would appreciate. Now, just because you are going out on an arrangement don't mean that it is going to end up in a disaster, you 'ear? Go and enjoy yourself and I wanna 'ear all the details after." Mary Poppins smiled serenely.

"You do look beautiful Mary Poppins." Bert remarked smilingly.

"Do you really think so Bert?" She asked, brightening a little.

"Cross me 'eart you do, like the day I met you." Bert replied with a kind smile.

"You look fine too Bert." Mary conveyed shyly as Bert smiled proudly.

"Miss Poppins, your carriage is ready for you."

"Oh, thank you Francis. I better go. Enjoy your night."

"You too." Bert called with an air of despondency, watching her leave.

"So, are you still going to pretend that you don't 'ave any feelings for 'er?"

"Who?" Bert asked innocently. Kat rolled her eyes saying:

"Mary Poppins of course, you great big numpty!" Shrugging his shoulders and shoving his hands into his pockets, Bert lowered his head saying:

"So, what if I do? I can't to very much about it, can I? 'Er parents would never approve the marriage." Enraged by her son's defeatist attitude, Kat sternly exclaimed:

"Now, you listen to me Bert Alfred: your father and I didn't raise you a quitter. If there is something or someone that you want, you go after it. It don't matter what anybody else thinks and you can't live your life waiting for others approval because 'alf the time you won't get it. Mark my words love, you and that girl belong together and I will do everything in my power to ensure it 'appens."

"Come on mom; let's go see granddad and Sal."

"Come in." Bert called in response to a knock on his bedroom door.

"You all right, granddad?" Bert enquired kindly, swinging his tie around his neck.

"Yeah, son, 'ow are you feeling?"

"Oh...you know..."Bert replied while fumbling with his tie.

"Come 'ere...sit on the bed Bert because I ain't as tall as I used to be." Bert laughed lightly as he obeyed instructions.

"I know that today is one of mixed emotions for you, Bert. It is the greatest day of your life and you are allowed to feel happy without remorse."

"Yeah, I know granddad and I am, really but I just..."

"...wish that Kat was 'ere?" Bert smiled despondently. "I miss 'er too son and James. Gosh, there ain't a day that goes by where I don't think of my boy. But life goes on Bert and I know they are up there right now bursting with pride".

"Thanks granddad."

"Come on down and get some food inside of you before the others arrive." Grabbing his waistcoat, Bert followed Joe downstairs.

Over at Number 17, Sally was helping Mary Poppins with her hair and makeup. Ordinarily, Mary Poppins would not allow anyone to assist her believing that she could do everything perfectly fine. However, this was a special occasion: the most important day of her life. Subsequently, Mary Poppins had learned to depend more on the help of others over the last few months. Becoming part of family assisted her in this capacity.

"You know Mary Poppins; it doesn't seem too long since I was getting ready to marry Joe. I remember there were a million thoughts running through my mind. But I suppose that all brides suffer mental anguish on their wedding days. I'm sure that you must be feeling...now, now Mary Poppins, what is all this? I upset you didn't I with my waffle." Mary Poppins sniffed and took the tissues that Sally had plucked from the square box on the table. Wiping her eyes, she looked at Sally earnestly saying:

"Oh, no Sally I assure you that you didn't say anything out of turn. I'm such a mess today. What must you think of me?" She asked emotionally. Smiling warmly, Sally clasped her shoulders and replied:

"That you are bride feeling all natural emotions as you prepare to stand before people to confess your love for the man of your dreams."

"Bert is wonderful isn't he?" Mary Poppins asked, dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

"Yes, he is." Sally responded, backcombing her hair.

"And he is so kind." Mary Poppins conveyed, looking at Sally in the mirror.

"He really is." Sally retorted spraying her hair to keep it in place.

Oh, and I do love him Sally, really I do but I am so scared of disappointing him."

"Now, that is enough of that kind of talk Mary Poppins. That boy loves every single bone in your body and the only way you could possibly disappoint him is to let him standing at the altar like a fool."

"Oh, I wouldn't do that to him, Sal." Mary Poppins responded with conviction.

"Well then, dry up those eyes, erase such idiotic thoughts and put a great big smile on your face. I`ll go get us some tea, love."

Once Sally had left, Mary Poppins looked in the mirror and began to reflect on thoughts once more of Kat.

"Now, now, Mary Poppins, it ain't the end of the world."

"How can you be so sure, Kat? You didn't see Bert's face."

"Bert? 'Ow do you mean, love?" Kat asked tentatively, sitting beside her on the bed.

"Oh, he warned me not to go out with Matthew but I would not listen. He told me that he was no good but I completely obliterated his warning." Mary Poppins exclaimed in disgust.

"What matters is that you now know the truth, sweet'eart. Bert I am sure will be just fine. All he wants is for you to be 'appy. That is all he 'as ever wanted." Kat conveyed, smiling kindly.

"Yes, but Kat I have hurt him so cruelly. I accused him of being spiteful and jealous and that is so ridiculous and cruel."

"Yes, but it is not exactly inaccurate."

"What do you mean, Kat?" Mary Poppins asked perplexed.

"Oh, Mary Poppins are you really telling me that you don't know? It 'as been as clear as day for a long time now. Why else do you think your mother worked so 'ard to get you a suitor?"

"Kat...what are you saying?"

"Mary Poppins, Bert is in love with you. He 'as been for quite some time and I know, even if you refute it, I know you feel the same way about him. The question is...when are you both going to admit it to one another and do something about it?"

"All right Mary Poppins, 'ere you go." Sally conveyed placing a cup of tea in front of her. "So, are we sticking with the beehive style or would you rather something different?"

"No, I think the beehive will work perfectly, Sally."

"Great! Let's make you looking like a bride."

8:50

"So, 'ow are you feeling now, Bert?" He looked at Joe and smiled lightly saying:

"I'm just fine granddad. My stomach is a still a little knotted but I am certain it will settle soon enough."

"Yeah, well only another two hours to go and you and Mary Poppins will finally be married."

"I know...it's gonna be great." Bert replied before drinking the remains of his coffee.

"So, say it like you mean it." Bert looked quizzically at his grandfather who merely smiled and began to explain.

"For the past ten years, you have been mooning over that girl..."

"I aven't been mooning granddad." Bert retorted, rising from the table and re-filling his cup with coffee.

"Yes, you 'ave, son: there 'asn't been anyone that can turn your 'ead like Mary Poppins. Now, that the day has arrived...you are all in a jumble...Bert shook his head, smiling and walked into the sitting room. He sat on the sofa and placed his cup of coffee on the table in front of him and listened patiently to his grandfather preaching as he paced. "...because you are afraid to own any doubts that you have about marriage in case someone reckons that you are backing out. Well, let me tell you something Bert: it is only natural to have trepidations on your wedding day. Hell, I did before marrying your grandma and Sal! So too did your father before he married Kat. Everyone that knows you can see 'ow much you love Mary Poppins and she is equally stoked about you. Don't feel guilty son for 'aving jitters. I'll bet anything that she is too. You and Mary Poppins were made for each other and soon everything will be official. Then, you can start on making me a great grandfather."

"Oh, granddad! One thing at a time, please" Bert exclaimed smilingly, rubbing his temple with his index and middle finger. Turning his head in reaction to the doorbell ringing, Bert exclaimed:

"Oh, that must be Michael and Mr. Banks."

"I'll let them in, Bert." Joe replied, patting him on the shoulder as he left.

"Thanks Granddad". Bert said standing up from the sofa. Joe opened the door and welcomed the guests while Bert pulled down his waistcoat and straightened his tie. To his surprise, Admiral Boom had accompanied Michael and Mr. Banks.

"Good morning Mr. Banks, Michael? Oh, I didn't expect to see you 'ere Admiral." Bert exclaimed, shaking his hand in turn.

"Yes, well Bert I decided to join the Banks's here to ensure that you got to the church on time and to be sure that you didn't duck your duties at the last minute." Laughingly Bert replied:

"I assure you Admiral that there is absolutely no fear of that happening."

"I always knew that you were a man of honour, Bert." Admiral retorted, sitting on the sofa.

"How are you feeling Bert?" Mr. Banks asked, sitting beside Admiral Boom.

"A little bit jittery to tell you the truth gov, but I`ll be all right. 'Ow are you Michael?" Bert enquired smilingly.

"I'm fine, thanks Bert. What do you think of the suit?" He asked twirling around.

"It actually looks great on you, Michael. Do you like mine?"

"Yeah, we match Bert." Bert laughed lightly and squeezed Michael's arm in a single handed embrace.

"All right, the car will be 'ere in an hour so let's sit down, relax and toast to my grandson."

"It's a bit early to be toasting granddad..."

"Nonsense, I'll be right back." Clearing his throat, Bert smiled politely at his guests saying:

"Excuse me for a moment." Bert followed Joe into the kitchen where he saw him popping a champagne bottle and pouring some into three glasses.

"Bert rather than standing there with your jaw to the ground why don't you get some orange juice from the fridge and pour it into a glass for Michael?"

"I explicitly requested no alcohol before the ceremony granddad." Bert conveyed through gritted teeth.

"Oh, come on Bert; one glass is not going do you any harm. Are you ready? Pop the glass on the tray and off we go." Sighing and rolling his eyes, Bert walked back into the sitting room where Joe was distributing the glasses to appropriate recipients. Bert smiled lightly as he took a glass from Joe who then joyfully began his toast.

"Now, I know that I should wait until the reception before embarrassing my grandson but as we 'ave some of his nearest and dearest 'ere I thought..." Turning to Bert, Joe exclaimed: "Why wait?" Bert smiled lightly in response. "So, Bert you know by now 'ow proud I am of you and 'ow much you mean to me. I know that you are missing the presence of Kat and James but as I said to you earlier – they are with you in spirit. Without a shadow of doubt they, along with everyone else wishes you a lifetime of 'appiness with Mary Poppins. To Bert and Mary Poppins!"

"To Bert and Mary Poppins". Mr. Banks Michael and Admiral echoed.

10:00

"Oh, Mary Poppins: you look absolutely beautiful". Jane cried exasperated.

"Do you really think so, Jane?"

"Yes. Bert will think so too, I'm sure of that." Mary Poppins smiled graciously and said:

"Thank you Jane, you look perfectly pretty by the way." Jane reciprocated her nanny's smile in gratitude.

"Jane is absolutely correct. Now, let me look at you." Sally observed Mary Poppins acutely, ensuring that everything was just perfect. Tilting her chin upwards, Sally re-touched Mary's foundation and added some blusher. Everything else met her approval. However, she requested that Mary Poppins sit back on the chair so she could spray her hair one final time.

"Okay, my love, you are good to go." Mary Poppins exhaled and laughed. Taking one final look at her reflection, she steadily turned to Sally and Jane with a wide smile saying:

"Let's get married."

Uncle Albert was standing in the hall waiting for Mary Poppins with Mrs. Banks, Ellen and Mrs. Brill. The sight of his niece steadily descending the stairs made them all speechless.

"My oh my" was about all the ladies could muster as Uncle Albert walked to his niece, starring at her in awe.

"You are going to take Bert's breath away."

"Do you really think so Uncle Albert?"

"Absolutely, my dear". She reciprocated his smile widely.

"You look beautiful, Mary Poppins." Mrs. Banks conveyed serenely.

"Bert won't know what 'it 'im when he sees you walking towards him, Mary Poppins. Isn't that right Mrs Brill?"

"Oh, aye Ellen, love: Simply sensational, Mary Poppins."

"You all are very kind, thank you. None of this would have been possible however if Sally had not so generously assisted me this morning and in preparations over the last few weeks. Oh, and Jane too of course." She exclaimed smiling kindly at Jane who reciprocated brightly.

"It 'as been a pleasure, love." Sally kindly replied, touching her arm.

At the sound of a car horn outside, Uncle Albert immediately went to check. On his return, he announced that the wedding car had arrived. Immediately, the ladies rallied around, getting into their positions. Mrs. Brill and Ellen stood on either side of the door, Sally and Jane proceeded to lead Mary Poppins out of the house while the bride linked her arm with Uncle Albert and subsequently walked from the house to the car. Mrs. Banks bid her staff goodbye and followed the others to the car.

10:45

Bert stood at the altar and waited patiently for Mary Poppins. Ordinarily, he was patient and didn't care how long he had to wait. However, this was different. Looking at his watch, he knew that she wasn't late but Bert still couldn't stop his growing anxiety that he was going to wake from a dream that he was living in for the last few months. "She will be here, Bert." Joe calmly conveyed seeing anxiety in Bert's eyes. He smiled at Joe saying: "I know that, granddad".

The car pulled up outside. Mary Poppins inhaled and exhaled deeply. "Do you want to wait a few moments, Mary Poppins?" Sally asked tentatively.

"No, Bert is waiting for me inside. Goodness knows how anxious he must be feeling. No, let's do this. Spit Spot."

Stepping out of the car with Sally and Jane in tow, Mary Poppins looked up toward the sky and whispered:

"Today Kat, today is when Bert and I are going to do something about it." Smiling at Sally and Jane, she nodded her head confirming that she was ready.

Mr. Banks, who was standing at the back of the church, assisted his daughter in opening the doors in recognition of the bride's arrival. Sally stepped in behind her, followed by Mary Poppins who waited for her cue. Smiling and feeling relieved, Bert nodded to the choir in the gallery to begin 'You Wonderful You'.

I'm glad I met you

You Wonderful you

I can't forget you

You wonderful you

Everyone in the church stood up and watched Jane, followed by Sally pave the way for the bride. Jane scattered flower petals as she gingerly walked down the aisle, smiling tentatively at neighbours friends on either side. As she grew closer to the altar, Bert's warm, wide smile and silent applaud put her at ease. Scattering the last few petals, Jane smiled joyously at Bert who reciprocated and subsequently winked – acknowledging that she did a good job.

You're like a breath of spring

A whole new thing that's happened

"Are you ready, my dear?" Mary Poppins inhaled, smiled serenely at her uncle and nodded her head once.

And without much a due

"Yes, I am, Uncle Albert but I can feel some tears brewing..."

I look at you and

"Now, don't you start Mary Poppins or you will have me going." She laughed lightly with her Uncle and began walking towards Bert.

There stands love

That's wonderful too

Smiling warmly at Sally who then took her place beside Jane on the left side of the altar, Bert watched Mary Poppins walk down the aisle arm in arm with Uncle Albert. Although the church was not very big nor the aisle particularly long: nonetheless those thirty seconds filled both bride and groom with an eruption of emotions and memories.

So glad I found you

You wonderful you

"Try to remember Bert that Mary Poppins is not as forthcoming as you are so she will need assurance that your love for her is real and forever".

"My Bert 'as the biggest heart of anyone I know Mary Poppins, but it is easily broken. Promise me that you will look after him when I am gone. Promise me."

She is going to need you in her life. Despite appearances, losing 'er parents 'as shaken her so you are going to 'ave to step up. Be the best man that I know you are, Bert".

"If you are ever in doubt, look into his eyes and you will see the truth, Mary Poppins."

"You cannot make her stay Bert and it would be selfish to try. If you cage a bird, it becomes your prisoner. But if you set it free, then it will very likely return. Mary Poppins 'as to live her life on her terms or else she will feel trapped. Let her go Bert and she will return, you'll see."

"I know my Bert better than anyone, Mary Poppins and I know you too. The love you both 'ave for one another is so real that it would be a crime to reject it. Honour your love and trust your 'eart."

Remember

Finders' keepers

Loser's weepers

And because it's true

Upon arriving at her destination, Mary Poppins smiled kindly at Uncle Albert. He reciprocated fondly, releasing her arm as Bert approached them. Squeezing her hand, Uncle Albert kissed her cheek as he whispered:

"You are in good hands now, Mary Poppins." Smiling tearfully, she squeezed his hand in gratitude. Turning to Bert who stood by patiently, Uncle Albert offered his hand saying:

"I know that you are the best man to take care of my niece, Bert." Taking his offered hand and patting the back of it with his other, Bert smiled kindly in gratitude. Then, Uncle Albert took his seat.

You're mine now

You wonderful you

"So, I see you made it." Mary Poppins reciprocated Bert's laughing smile and linked her hands with his. "You look beautiful, Mary Poppins."

"You look perfectly handsome as always, Bert." Peering over his shoulder, Mary Poppins added:

"You look quite dashing too Joe and Michael. I love that your suits matches Bert's." Before they could respond, the priest began the ceremony.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join Bert and Mary in the sanctity of marriage. Is there anyone here who objects?" Silence.

"Then let us begin. Bert, do you take Mary Poppins as your lawful wife? To have and to hold from this day forward for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health for as long as you both shall live?"

"I do."

"Do you Mary Poppins take Bert Alfred as your lawful husband? To have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health for as long as you both shall live?"

"I do".

"Okay, could we have the rings, please?" Bert smiled kindly at Michael as he took the ring from him.

"Bert, repeat after me: With this ring, I thee wed."

Taking Mary Poppins's left hand, Bert slid on her ring while saying:

"With this ring, I thee wed."

"All right, Mary Poppins take the ring and repeat after me: With this ring, I thee wed".

"Catching Bert's left hand, Mary Poppins slipped on his ring, saying:

"With this ring, I thee wed."

"By the powers invested in me, I know pronounce you husband and wife." Mary Poppins and Bert looked at one another excitedly. "You may kiss the bride". Taking hold of one another, Bert and Mary Poppins shared their first married kiss. Suddenly, the church was filled with joyous shouts and applause. This was the moment that so many had waited for for so long. Finally, it had happened; finally Bert and Mary Poppins were actually married and the two people most responsible were standing right beside them, their joy bursting through their wide smiles. Following silent instruction from Joe and Sally, Jane and Michael led the wedding party out of the church. Joe and Sally subsequently followed suit. Taking hold of Bert's hand, he and Mary Poppins joyously walked down the aisle to further applause and celebratory cheers. Standing outside the church, they were met and congratulated by all their family and friends. However, it didn't take long for their biggest supporters to rush over and congratulate them. Wrapping their arms around Mary Poppins and Bert simultaneously, Jane and Michael were subsequently embraced fondly.

"You are finally married! How does it feel?" Jane asked excitedly as they relinquished from one another. Looking at Bert, Mary Poppins replied:

"I don't believe there words to describe how happy we feel right now, Jane."

"Yes, there is Mary Poppins".

"What might that be, Michael?" Bert asked kindly.

Looking at his sister, they responded in unison.

"Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!" Bert and Mary Poppins laughed joyously with the children.

"That is the perfect word Jane and Michael. Don't you agree Mary Poppins?" Bert asked smilingly.

"Honestly, I believe there is something even better which describes how I feel, Bert."

"Oh, what might that be?" Smiling jovially at her husband, Mary Poppins explained.

"Chim chiminee chim chiminee chim chim cheree

When you're with a sweep

You're in glad company

Jane and Michael smiled gleefully as Bert laughed lightly. Then he and Mary Poppins took each other's hands as well as Jane and Michael's and continued singing in a circle, arms swinging back and forth.

Nowhere is there a more 'appier crew

Than them what sings chim chiminee chim cheroo

Chim chiminee chim chim cheree chim cheroo"

Epilogue

Ten months later, Bert was drawing on the pavement outside the park. He remained completely oblivious to his surroundings until two familiar voices jolted him back to reality. Bert's face illuminated as Jane and Michael stood before him.

'Ello Jane and Michael and 'ow are you two doing?" Bert enquired in his typical pleasant demeanour.

"We are doing just fine, Bert, how about you?" Jane asked politely.

"Oh, you know me Jane: always a silver lining." Bert replied standing up and wiping surplus chalk from his hands on his handkerchief.

"Are you going to stop by the house soon, Bert? It has been a while since we have seen you."

"Yeah, I'll do my very best Michael but there have been a few things going on lately."

"What kind of things?"

"Oh, Michael, don't be so curious!" Jane scolded.

"No, it's all right, Jane. Do you remember Jack Stewart? Well, a colleague of 'is 'ere in London 'as offered me a position as illustrator of children's books. I'm still thinking about it."

"I think that is wonderful, Bert.' Jane exclaimed proudly.

"Yeah, Bert, you should definitely consider it. You would be great!"

"Thanks Jane and Michael. I appreciate your faith in me".

"Always". They chimed in unison before hugging Bert warmly. He reciprocated and smiled fondly down at them.

"Jane? Michael?"

"That is father, Michael." Jane exclaimed as they relinquished from Bert.

"I guess you two better get going."

"Jane? Michael? Ah, there you are. Oh, good evening Bert."

"Good evening, gov. 'Ow are you?"

"Good thank you Bert and you?"

"I can't complain."Bert replied smilingly.

"Good. Well we better be going home. Come along Jane and Michael. You and Mary Poppins should have dinner with us soon, Bert. It has been a while since we all caught up properly."

"Yes, absolutely gov; we would love to." Bert retorted, smiling politely.

"Great! All right children, come along. Goodbye Bert."

"Goodbye Gov."

"Bye Bert". Jane and Michael chimed.

"Bye Jane and Michael". Bert replied with a small wave.

As the children turned the corner with Mr. Banks, Bert sighed and lowered his head a little.

"It was bound to happen at some point, darling." Bert turned and smiled lightly back at his wife who walked towards him.

"Yeah, I know that but it is still surreal to see them all so 'appy together. It kind of makes me feel insignificant." Seeing Mary Poppins's quizzical expression, Bert quickly added: "It's ridiculous, I admit it." Smiling fondly at her husband, Mary Poppins wrapped her arms lightly around him as Bert embraced her in turn.

"Oh, Bert you will always be significant to Jane and Michael but we have finally accomplished everything that we set out to do: building a proper relationship with their parents, especially with their father."

"Yeah, I know and I am happy, really I am. I just miss them I guess."

"Well, we will make plans together soon but honestly I think that soon you won't have too much time to miss them." Mary Poppins conveyed, relinquishing from him, taking a few steps back.

"'Ow do you mean?" Bert asked curiously as his wife continued to smile humorously at him.

"I just came from the doctor..." Bert starred at her wide eyed as multiple thoughts ran through his mind. Suddenly, it hit him. Gesturing his fingers accordingly, Bert said:

"You are...we are...you and I are gonna be..."

"In about six month's time." Bert laughed and excitedly took his wife in his arms and twirled her mid air, exclaiming: 'Ow about that!" Setting her back on the ground, they kissed.

"You like the news then, Bert?"

"Like it? I love it! Come on; let's go 'ome. I want to know everything the doctor said."

Admiral Boom stood on his roof and smiled fondly as he watched Bert collect his Screever material and walk home with Mary Poppins hand in hand as they chattered excitedly.

"It is amazing what one can see from a bird's eye view"
