The Unexpected Guest
(Prologue)
A girl crouched in an alley, not as if she were hiding, but as if she were in pain. From her perspective, everything had suddenly spun out of focus. It was as if the world had been snatched up and shaken around like a giant snow-globe in the hands of an over-sugared and even more giant toddler. She felt like she had been dashed against the glass several times in the midst of all the sickening shaking of reality.
"I don't feel so good," she muttered under her breath. "Maybe I should have stayed home."
She didn't remember why she'd come out today, or why she was in an alley. In fact, she didn't at all remember coming into this alley. That was probably a bad thing, she decided. The girl stood shakily and made her way toward the light of the open street.
She felt better once the sunlight touched her skin. She straightened, looking around to try to discover where she was.
The girl gasped in disbelief.
There!
It couldn't be real... but it was right there before her eyes.
At the edge of the city, on a rocky island in the bay, stood a huge, T-shaped tower.
