Just a short little ficlet full of R/H fluffiness. Because you can never get enough R/H fluffiness.
Do I Have To Let Go?
~~~
"Aww look, it's Weasel and his girlfriend Mudblood!" Draco Malfoy sneered. Ron and Hermione turned to face him and shot him nearly identical glares.
"You know Granger, I didn't think it was possible but you're even uglier today than usual."
"That's it!" Yelled Ron, lunging towards Malfoy.
Hermione rushed to hold him back. "Forget him, Ron. He's not worth it."
Malfoy sneered at Ron. "Lucky for you your ugly little girlfriend won't let you try to fight me. You'd be unrecognizable by the time I was done with you." Then he sauntered off.
Hermione tightened her grip on Ron just in case, but he made no move to chase Malfoy. When he was gone Ron growled, "That stupid git..." Then he turned to Hermione and said, "Hermione... it's not true, y'know.. you're not ugly! You're..." Ron suddenly turned an extremely dark shade of red. "You're not ugly.." he repeated softly, looking down to avoid her eyes. He realized that Hermione had grabbed his hand to keep him from Malfoy earlier, and that she hadn't let go yet. Blushing even more, he tried to pull his hand from hers, but she held on firmly and, also blushing, said very quietly, "Do I have to let go?"
Ron stood stunned for several seconds and then sputtered "You.. you don't want to?"
Blushing furiously she shook her head. "But.. No, I'm sorry, I'm stupid, you don't want me holding your hand. Sorry.." She muttered quickly, mostly to herself as she let go and jerked her hand to her side. "I'm sorry. I'm an idiot. Just forget I did that.."
Ron cut in then, "Hermione.."
"Look, I'm sorry, ok? I won't do it again! I.."
He interrupted her again. "What if.. What if I *want* you to do that again?" he asked, looking her in the eye.
"Do you??"
Ron nodded.
"Oh..." Hermione slowly reached out a trembling hand and grabbed Ron's. "Good."
She smiled, and so did he when he saw how it lit up her face.
Ron stood there for a moment looking like he was trying to decide whether or not to say something. Finally, after a large gulp, he spoke. "Malfoy's a liar. You are *not* ugly. You're beautiful. I've never seen anyone like you. You're amazing.. Everything about you. I love everything about you... I love you." He said this last part rather quickly, though not too quickly for Hermione to understand it. She stared at him, unable to even breathe.
Ron laughed nervously. "Wow, I can't believe I just said that... But.. I really did mean it."
Finally, Hermione snapped out of her shock and threw her arms around his neck. He awkwardly hugged her back, and they stood, holding each other tight, until Hermione gasped, "We'd better get to the Great Hall! Harry'll be worrying about us! Us..." She repeated the last word thoughtfully, then smiled. They walked hand-in-hand towards the Great Hall, each feeling like the luckiest person in the world.
