Hey everyone, here is the LAST chapter for you all. I'm super nervous about the ending but I like to think it leaves it open if I ever wanted to do a sequel. Thank you for sticking with this story all the way through and I just want to say you're the best readers a gal could have. Thank you so much. I hope you like this ending and there are time jumps in this. I have chosen to include a certain event in this as I just really wanted to have an alternative scenario than to what happened in the series. Enjoy and I look forward to hearing from you all.
Okay, a lot of people have asked if I will continue my one shot called Spencer's Pain. I'm not sure. I'm putting a poll on my profile page where you can vote for it to continue or stay as a one shot.
I also wanted to throw out a recommendation. IntoTheWilds has a great new collection of stories that are a crossover of Lost girl and Criminal Minds. If you like the two shows, they are a great read. They're all part of the It's a Fae, Fae World Saga. I love reading them.
Thank you so much for all the reviews, you're amazing and beautiful. I just want to give you all a hug! Thanks!
Enjoy and please review

Rossi's house
Rossi gently opened Spencer's bedroom door to see him sleeping peacefully. He walked in and gently sat on the edge of the bed. The room had remained the same since Spencer had moved in with his parents so the only things they had needed to unpack were those in his suitcase. As he watched him, he felt the same protective urge that he'd had when he had first met him. Spencer was his son and he couldn't deny the feeling inside of him. He wasn't his biological son but that didn't matter. All that mattered was keeping Spencer safe and giving him the happy life he deserved.
"DAVE?" Spencer groaned as he awoke from his deep sleep. "What are you doing?"
"Just checking on you," Rossi smiled. "How are you feeling?"
"Tired. It's been a difficult few days. I didn't expect to come back from Tokyo and find out everything about my mother. Everything is catching up to me."
"You can rest as much as you want. Your mother is having a difficult time but the doctors are ready to help her and Lou will take great care of her. This isn't like before. William is dead, Duvall is too, and she's going to have more support than ever. You can visit her as much as you want. She wants to give you a full life."
"I know. I'm just not sure what I want to do with my life. I have so much knowledge about different subjects and about life but I don't what I want to do. I do know that I don't want to be stuck in some office, lab or in a class room for the rest of my life. I admire professors and scientists for the work they do but I want to be out in the world. I was trapped in Duvall's basement for six months. I had no contact with the outside world. I didn't even had a window. It was just one constant room and his constant abuse. Dave, I want to help people. I had one idea but I'm not sure if my parents and yourself would accept it."
"What idea?" Rossi questioned.
Spencer licked his dry lips nervously. "I thought about becoming an FBI agent."
"You want to be an FBI agent," Rossi said with surprise. "Spencer, being an agent is a dangerous job and you could get hurt."
Rising from the bed, Spencer gave Rossi a small smile. "I know the risks. I've done research and I've listened to the team talk about close calls and agents that have been lost in the field. I know it is dangerous and that I risk being hurt or worse but I could help people. You helped me. Dave, you rescued me from hell and I wouldn't be alive without you. There is only so much someone can go through before they can't take any more and I was reaching that point when you found me. You brought me back to my mother, gave me a home when I didn't have one and held me through withdrawal. I want to help people. I want to stop people like Duvall from getting away with it."
Rossi reached up and brushed some of Spencer's hair behind his ears. "I'm so proud of you. I understand your reasons and I will support you if you want to go down this path. I've always promised to support you and that's what I'll do. I'm proud because you've come so far and you have the kindest soul I know. Don't expect me not to be protective over you," he smiled. "You're my son, not matter what. I'll help you do this but you have to finish college first."
"I'll finish college," Spencer nodded. "Do you really think I can make it through the academy and into the FBI?"
"You've survived unimaginable acts and I have no doubt that after surviving what you've survived, you can conquer anything or anyone in this world."
Spencer quickly rose up and put his arms around his Rossi. He hugged him tightly and smiled happily. "Thanks for supporting me, dad."
Rossi closed his eyes as Spencer called him Dad. He wrapped his arms around him. "I'll always support you, son."
Three years later
Rossi smiled proudly as he watched Spencer graduate from the FBI academy. Spencer had come so far in three years. He had completed his studies. In total, he had two PHD's and three BA's now. The last three years had passed with both easy times but also hard times. Spencer had chosen to stay in Virginia with Rossi after his mother's condition had declined further. During a visit, his mother had attacked him and yelled at him for abandoning her for so long. It had taken a lot of support from the team to help Spencer come out from a dark place after that. Lou cared for Diana at his home and always made sure she called Spencer when she was having a good day. Riley visited once a month or more to spend time with his brother. Spencer had chosen to study for two BA'S while finishing his last PHD and Rossi had welcomed that decision. It had taken some persuasion to the FBI to allow Spencer to enter the academy under the mandatory age.
He'd had some trouble during his gun qualification and hand to hand but after taking lessons from both Hotch and Morgan, he had improved greatly and passed. Rossi had already made sure Spencer was going into a good unit with the FBI. The graduation ceremony came to an end and the graduates dispersed to their families. Riley rushed to Spencer and gave him a brotherly hug.
"I'm so proud of you, Spencer," Riley said happily. "I knew you could do it."
"I just can't believe that I finished the academy. I'm nervous but excited for the next step," Spencer said. The small patter of feet came rushing up to Spencer. He opened his arms up and swooped his two year old nephew into his arms. "Hey, little one."
Rossi loved seeing the large grin on Spencer's face as his nephew, Dylan, bounced happily in his arms. Riley had become a father after being in a short term relationship and had sole custody of his son after the mother had fallen into some bad habits. Spencer had stayed with his brother for a few weeks when his nephew was born and had a close bond with Dylan.
Riley reached up and brought his son into his arms. "Hasn't Uncle Spencer done well?"
"Yeah," Dylan giggled.
Rossi came up to Spencer and hugged him. "I am so proud of you, son. See, I knew you could do it. Did they give you your assigned unit?"
Spencer held an envelope and nodded. "I haven't opened it. I'm scared about where I'm being sent. I don't want to be sent too far away from everyone."
"Let's open and see where you're going," Rossi smiled. "You'll be supported no matter where you go."
Spencer broke open the envelope and slid the paper out. He opened it and his eyes widened as he took in every word in an instant. "I don't understand. This says that I'm assigned to the BAU unit. That's impossible."
"No, it isn't," Rossi said before placing his hands on Spencer's shoulders. "You are part of this family and you've been part of it since the day I met you. I've seen you do wonders with your mind and I know that you'll continue to do that in the BAU. The team already knows that you're coming and they are extremely happy and looking forward to working with you to help people. I spoke with the directors and they approved it because of my strong belief that you can do this."
Spencer put his hand over his mouth before grinning happily. Throwing his arms around Rossi, he hugged him tightly. "Thank you!"
"You don't have to thank me," Rossi said as he hugged Spencer back. "You got yourself to this point. You've been strong and fought to gain your life back which you've done."
"I couldn't have done it without you, Dave."
Three years later
Spencer shivered on his couch as he tried to keep himself from giving in to taking Dilaudid. Only two days had passed since Tobias Hankel had kidnapped and tortured him for two days and he didn't want to give in to the urge to take the drugs. Duvall had given him drugs against his will and he had hated how it made him feel. He brought his knees to his chest and cried as he remembered himself begging Tobias not to give him the drugs.
"Argh!" he cried out as his stomach clenched with pain. Falling back against his couch, he wished for the withdrawal to end. He had kept the drugging secret from the team, the doctors and especially Dave.
Spencer's eyes widened as a knock came at his door.
"Spencer, it's Dave. I know you want to be alone but I can't let you go through this alone. This has affected you more than you admitted at the hospital. Please, let me in."
"Go away," Spencer shouted before a horrible sensation came through him. He grabbed the bin next to the couch and vomited violently into it. He didn't hear the sound of Rossi using a key to enter the apartment.
Rossi walked in and saw the state of the apartment and was shocked to see Spencer throwing up with pale skin and a sheen of sweat covering his face. Rushing over, he rubbed Spencer's back as he finished being sick. Spencer put the bin down shakily. "I told you to go away," Spencer sobbed.
"Spencer, what's wrong?"
"I didn't want it but he said it would make it feel better. I didn't want it and I know you'll hate me."
Rossi watched as Spencer scratched his arm. He pulled up Spencer sleeve and took in the needle marks. He grabbed Spencer's face. "Why did you hide this from us? Why did you hide this from me?!"
"I WAS WEAK ONCE AND I DIDN'T WANT YOU TO THINK I WAS WEAK AGAIN!" Spencer screamed angrily. "I didn't want you to know."
"I needed to know this," Rossi said, his eyes watering. He wrapped his arms around Spencer and held him close. Spencer cried into his chest and felt hot to the touch on Rossi's neck. "I'm your dad and I needed to know. No matter what, I'm your dad. I had to watch you die in those videos and I thought I had lost you forever. I will never think you're weak. I went through this once with you and I will do it again. I know you didn't want the drugs."
Rossi brought his hand to the back of Spencer's neck to find it covered with sweat and his skin too hot. "We need to get your temperature down."
"Dave, it hurts," Spencer whimpered as he clutched his stomach.
"It'll pass," Rossi soothed. "Come on, I'm getting you into bed with some new clothes. You're soaked in sweat. You don't have to do this alone."
Sitting on the bed with his legs resting on it, Rossi stroked his hand through Spencer's hair as he slept. The man whom would always be his son slept fitfully on a pillow on his lap. He took the cloth and soaked it back in the bowl of ice water and pressed it to Spencer's neck. It hurt Rossi to see Spencer in such a painful and vulnerable state, and it had hurt even more when he had watched him die on the computer screen at the hands of Tobias Hankel. Over the last three years, Rossi had watched Spencer grow from a new, slightly shy, FBI agent into one of the best agents the FBI had ever seen. He had saved so many people with his knowledge and with his compassion.
Rossi sighed shakily. "I'm sorry that I wasn't there in that shack," he whispered. "My job is to protect you. I've always promised to protect you and I didn't do that this time. I let you down, Spencer. Why would you ever think that I would blame you for what Tobias forced you to take? I blame myself for not being there to keep you safe. You could be thirty and I would still be over protective. You don't have to go through this alone. I'm here. I'll always be here."
Two days later
Spencer laid on his couch while sipping soup from his favorite Doctor Who mug. The cramps had subsided for the most part, the shakes and shivers had left him and he was finally able to keep down some food. Rossi sat down in a chair and sipped coffee from his mug. "How are you feeling, Spencer?"
"Better but I still don't feel too great," Spencer admitted. "I'm sorry for putting you through all this. Watching me go through withdrawal hurt you the first time. You shouldn't have had to watch me go through it again."
"Tobias forced those drugs into you. I'm not your biological father but I am your father. Lou is there for you, I know that. I'm here for you too. It hurt to watch you got through withdrawal again because I hate seeing you in pain. You got kidnapped, Spencer."
"I shouldn't have split away from JJ," Spencer said before closing his eyes. "I tried to go back but he hit me and put the gun in my face. I barely remember him knocking me out. Just pain and then nothing. I was so scared when I woke up."
Spencer's breathing hitched. "I-I didn't know what he might do to me."
Rossi rushed over and rubbed his hand over Spencer's back. "It's okay. You're safe now. Tobias is dead and he can never hurt you again."
"He already did though. I confessed my sin to him. I left my mom to live my life. I was selfish. Sometimes, I feel that living my life and being able to do things more freely is selfish. She has good days and bad days and I'm not there. Am I a sinner?"
"No, you're not a sinner. Don't you ever think that. Your mother gave you her blessing to live your life and in her letters, she's so proud of you. She thinks you're a little too skinny though."
Spencer let out a small chuckle before wiping his eyes. "I guess I drink too much coffee."
Rossi smiled before becoming more serious again. "You'll get past this, Spencer. You're strong. Duvall and Tobias have never put out the light inside of you. That light helps you do so much good in the world."
"I wouldn't have that light without the team and especially you. You showed me that their was a way out of the darkness after Duvall."
Rossi put his arm around Spencer and hugged him close. "I'll always show you the way out of a bad time."
A few months later
"Uncle Spencer!"
Spencer knelt and hugged his five year old nephew as he ran over. "Hey, Dylan. I missed you so much. I'm sorry I've been so busy with work."
"That's okay," Dylan smiled. "We got the whole weekend to have fun."
Spencer picked up Dylan and rested him on his hip as Riley came over. They had decided to meet up at the local park in Virginia. "I've got lots of places we can go and I am going to spoil you this weekend. Garcia can't wait to see you too."
"Will she have cupcakes, Uncle Spencer?"
"Yes, she will. She'll have cookies and she's got presents for you too."
"Someone is getting spoiled this weekend," Riley chuckled. "Just remember to say thank you when you get presents, Dylan."
"I will, daddy."
Spencer put Dylan down. "Hey, why don't you go and play for a minute? I have to talk to your daddy for a minute and then I'll be over to play."
Dylan ran towards the park and began to climb the small steps to the slide. Riley and Spencer kept a watchful and close eye on him. Riley gave Spencer a hug before coming away and patting him on the shoulder. "How are you doing?"
"You mean after being kidnapped again?"
"Yeah," Riley nodded sadly. "You haven't called as much since it happened."
"I just needed a little time to get back to being myself. It's hard to forget what was done to me in that shack. Dave helped me through a lot of the fallout. I didn't want you to have to worry about me, Riley. You've got Dylan and I know you've been busy with your job. Being a doctor isn't easy and you didn't need more stress."
"Spencer, you're my brother, it's my job to worry about you. Dylan is doing great at school but he's worried about you too. He's just a kid but he knows when something is wrong. He knows when his uncle is feeling sad. This weekend means everything to him because he has missed you and wanted to spend time with you."
"I didn't mean to be so distant but I didn't want him to see me like I was. Even after my withdrawal, I wasn't myself. I was angry and trying to understand why I got hurt again. Duvall hurt me once and I didn't understand why the world was bringing more trauma and pain into my life."
"You'll drive yourself crazy thinking about the why of things but know this, Spencer. You've come out stronger every time the world has tried to put you down. You're the strongest person I know and I'm proud to have you as my little brother."
"Anyone tell you that you're the best big brother ever, Riley."
"I can think of one," Riley grinned before ruffling Spencer's hair.
"Uncle Spencer," Dylan yelled. "You can't catch me."
"I think you just got challenged," Riley laughed.
Spencer ran through the gate and chased after his giggling nephew. Dylan squealed as he was caught and lifted into the air. "I got you," Spencer giggled. "You can't outrun the fastest man alive."
"You mean, Uncle Morgan?" Dylan smirked.
"You cheeky monkey."
Monday
Walking into the BAU, Spencer couldn't stop smiling at the amazing weekend he had enjoyed with his nephew and the rest of the team. It had brought his mind away from everything that had happened in the past few months. Garcia walked up to him and pinched his cheek. "You feeling okay, baby boy?"
"I'm feeling better than I have in a while," Spencer nodded.
"We have a case," she sighed. "Everyone is heading to the BAU room. It looks like a rough one."
They began to walk to the BAU room. "Did you enjoy seeing Dylan, Garcia?"
"I loved seeing him. He's such an energetic child and I could barely keep up with him. Did he like the race cars I got for him?"
"He loves them. I lost two races against him."
"You've never been the best driver," she smirked before giving him a playful nudge.
Spencer took his seat with the rest of the team. Hotch passed a file over to him as he sat down.
"Morning, everyone," Spencer said happily.
"Someone's in a happy mood," Morgan smiled.
"I had a great weekend and I'm looking forward to next weekend," Spencer shrugged.
"Why?" Hotch asked.
Spencer bit his lip. "I've got a date."
"With who?!" Garcia squealed. "Tell me everything."
"Garcia, calm down," JJ shook her head with a smile.
"It's okay," Spencer assured her. "Riley has a friend who is single and they thought we might get along because of our general interests. They set it up and she lives here in Virginia."
"You'll do fine," Blake said. "Don't be nervous."
"What's her name?" Rossi asked. He was delighted to see the spark returning to Spencer and even more delighted that he was trying to live his life to the fullest.
Spencer looked at Rossi. "Her name is Maeve. I can't wait to meet her."
