A/N: I do not know when the first chapter of the next book will be up. With school I have far less time to work on it than I did with this.

Disclaimer: I don't own either series.

"You… what?" I heard myself squeak.

"I created the simulation. You did not actually think that someone as incompetent as Chris could have orchestrated this, did you?" she asked.

"But how—"

"Simple. It was as easy to create as a virtual simulation—what Chris put you all under during initiation. You remember the helmet that you wore, but you couldn't remember what happened? My invention. It helps me to predict the outcomes, occurrences of Divergence in the class of initiates, even love interests. Essentially, it reads your brain and predicts your life.

"How did you not pick up in my aura that I was like this before? Also, very simple. I managed to completely change my personality and thoughts in public, which was why you did not detect me on visiting day when I watched you with your father. I know you read—or used to be able to read—auras, I know you are Divergent, I know all about you." She said menacingly. "I even knew that you loved that boy, B, for a while now. I surmised that one of the best ways to get to you was to get rid of him. I suppose that I have better aim than I thought."

I felt anger boiling up inside me, and I was still new to the feeling. "Why are you doing this to the Abnegation?" Cody asked. "What could they have that you want?"

"That is classified. And now that you know that I'm running this, guards!" she called, as two large men that I had completely missed came out from corners of the room. They grabbed both of us and shoved us in a closet-sized empty room, which was then promptly locked.

Well, it was empty except for the two bodies I landed on. I could not see at all in the dark room, so I could not see who I landed on. I heard Cody shout as he must have landed on his hurt shoulder.

Suddenly, as if woken up by the shout and the movement of us being thrown on to them, one stirred, letting out a groan. I knew this voice.

"Chris?"

"Dawn?" he asked groggily.

"Yes. What are you doing in here? Did Scarlett put you in here?" another groan from the other body.

"Hatchet? How did Scarlett's guards put you in here?" Cody asked incredulously.

"It wasn't Scarlett's bodyguards that put us in here. It was Mal and Heather who knocked us out. Mostly Mal. That boy ain't right." Hatchet revealed.

"Clearly. He almost killed Heather himself!" Cody said.

"Mal was definitely crazy." Chris said. "But Mike was normal."

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"Mike has Multiple Personality Disorder, though he isn't Divergent. Being in Erudite, it was diagnosed rather quickly, and it means that Mike has more than one person inside of him. Mike himself is Erudite, but the others are Dauntless with the exception of one that is Abnegation. He actually has six personalities including himself. The only other one that I suppose you have met is Mal—a dangerous psychopath. I would be lying if I said that I was glad at first when he transferred, but now that he's in Dauntless, no one is safe." Chris told us. "But it seems that Scarlett could be even more dangerous now. I had no idea that she was going to go this far. And her of all people."

"You need to take her down." Hatchet stated. "You can. I've been observing you closely, and you have some of the strongest Divergence that I have ever seen, Dawn."

"I figured out why she would do this, as well." Chris revealed. "For, you see, recently the Abnegation—" Chris was cut off.

The door slammed open and Scarlett was silhouetted in the doorway. We were temporarily blinded by the sudden flood of light. "That is all you will say." Scarlett said as she aimed her gun—one of Cody or my guns, she must have taken them—and fired point blank at Chris, who crumpled in on himself.

"Chris!" Hatchet yelled. He then pounced on Scarlett, pinning her to the ground. He opened up room for us to escape. "Go!" he said, still pinning her.

"Wait!" she yelled. "Dawn, don't you want to find out why you can no longer see auras?" she said trying to keep us in there. I did really want to know, but I didn't want to stick around any longer.

"Yes." I sighed. "But make it quick."

"Alright. Simply, you could see them in Amity because you were not forced to really confine your way of thinking, as you are in Erudite. You lost your auric sight." She stated with a vicious smirk, as if she knew how big reading auras was as a part of me.

"I can gain it back." I said, somewhat uncertainly.

"Can you?" she asked sarcastically.

I set my jaw. "I know I can." And I know I can and will avenge all of the lives she ended senselessly. "This is for everyone you killed. And especially for B." I said, and shot her. Not to kill, but just to wound her. She let out a guttural groan, which was close to turning into a scream but never did. Scarlett tried to clutch her leg where I shot it, but could not do so as Hatchet was still on her.

Cody smirked. "Hurts like a bitch, doesn't it?" he smirked, before turning and shooting her two guards. He was already getting better at shooting with one hand.

"Cody." I stopped him. "We need to shut off the simulation."

"Right." He said. "I think I can help."

"No. You need to guard the door. You know that I won't shoot to kill, but you will, and Hatchet's busy. I can do this." I convinced him.

"Fine. If you need help, let me know." He said.

"Alright." I exhaled as I sat down in front of the controlling computer. Truthfully, I had no idea what I was doing as I clicked through the different screens. "Scarlett." I said walking back over to her. "How do you turn it off?"

"Why would I tell you?" she asked.

I felt a twinge of guilt and more than a twinge of nausea as I knew what I was going to do. "Because I can do this." I said as I pushed my thumb into the bullet wound in her leg, causing her to finally scream. When her scream subsided when I pulled my thumb out, I pleaded again. "Please, Scarlett, end this. Just tell me how to stop it."

"No. I will not reveal the information for this." She remained adamant.

I steeled myself and pushed my thumb in again, twisting it around causing it to bleed more and causing Scarlett to scream. "Stop! Stop. I'll tell you." She said panting.

I went over to the computer. "What do I do first?" I asked her.

"Go to the page with the binary code." She instructed. I clicked on it.

"And?"

"Highlight, then delete the numbers." I did.

"Now what?"

"Go to the main page. Input password 'Erudite5.' You should see where to input commands."

"Yes. What's next?"

"Let me. I had some information from a fellow failed initiate on what to do from here. You'd be surprised what gets passed around in the back hallways." Cody said smirking, making his way to the computer.

"But you should watch the door." I reminded him.

"If I can get this done fast enough, we won't need a lookout." He had a point.

"Fine." I gave in and offered him the chair. It took him about three minutes to get to the final step. He entered a diverse code that I did not understand—and it was done.

He had ended the simulation.

On the various screens in the room, I saw the Dauntless soldiers coming to. They looked confused first, then horrified as they saw what they had done.

"Cody…" I said breathless. We stopped the army and saved so many Abnegation.

"They're waking up murderers. They didn't even know what was happening." He said.

"Maybe some did. The others were rescuing the Divergent, so hopefully they made it out." I pointed out.

"Speaking of making it out, we need to go. It won't be long before someone realizes what happened and the compound is swarmed." He said. "We need to get out now."

"Definitely." I agreed. "But aren't we supposed to meet back up with the rest of group one?"

"We will meet by the tracks. Chet will show you how to get on a moving train, since I get the feeling you have never jumped on one before." He said. Of course I hadn't. "But the information for the simulation should be stored on something, like a hard-drive. If we don't take it, anyone could just start it back up again. Found it!" he exclaimed as he ejected it from the computer and tucked it in his pocket.

"You kids better hurry and leave." Hatchet informed us, still pinning Scarlett. On the screens, we could see the Dauntless leaders appearing to head towards the compound. "I'll meet you at Amity as soon as I can."

"Yeah, let's go, Dawn. Thanks Hatchet." Cody said as we started walking to the door.

"There you are! We heard the army stop shooting and hoped that someone managed to shut it down." Sammy informed us with a relieved expression. She was holding her forearm and was limping, barely putting any weight on her right leg. She wasn't the only one wounded, however—Noah was holding his side and Chet had blood seeping through his shoulder.

"How did it go?" Chet asked us.

"We shut it down. Casualties?" Cody asked him.

"Spencer, John, Annabeth, Adam, and Monica. I was wounded, as well as Noah and Sammy." He said. He looked distraught, but then I realized that Adam, Monica, and Spencer were his whole group, and he must have felt like he didn't protect them enough—which, I suppose, he hadn't.

"We lost B and I was shot." Cody informed him. "So the unharmed are Dawn, Dave, and Amy." He said with a surprised expression. "Three out of thirteen are fine, and we lost six—but we shut it down. It's over."

"For now." Chet reminded us.

"Do we know who made it out of the other group?" I asked.

"Not yet. We'll know once we meet them in Amity." Dave told me.

"Speaking of which, when's the next train, Chet?" Cody asked the older man.

"Soon. It's coming. We'd better get to the tracks." He said. "If you haven't gotten on a train before, you run alongside of it, grab the handle on one of the doors, and throw yourself inside. Be prepared to shift your weight and let your momentum do most of the work." He instructed us. When we got to the tracks, Chet asked, "Who has jumped onto a train before?"

Cody was the only one to raise his hand. "My father taught me. I can help the rest of you."

"Thank you, Cody. Of course, I can help as well." Chet said. We could hear the train coming now. "It doesn't matter which car you get on, just get on one of them." He said.

The train was close now. "Start running! If you wait too long, you won't make it on!" Chet shouted over the roar of the approaching engine. Our group of seven started running, with the front of the train soon passing us. Cody was one of the first on, holding out his hand to help Noah and Dave on. Chet helped Amy into a car a few further back, and practically had to throw Sammy onto the next one back with her damaged leg. After Sammy, it was my turn. I sprinted forward and tried to grab the handle, but missed and Chet had to nearly throw me as well, with himself just barely making it onto the last car. I collapsed onto the train car floor.

"So, how did you make it out safe?" I barely heard a voice ask me, over the sound of the train and my heart pounding in my ears. I looked up and saw that I was in the same car as Sammy.

Now that I was able to sit and breathe, I realized that I actually was in pain, though it was mostly muscle soreness from everything that had happened. "I-I don't know." I answered honestly.

"Are you okay? I think you scraped your knee." I looked, and sure enough when Chet through me into the car I landed on my knees. I hadn't noticed it earlier from the adrenaline rush, but I was bleeding, and just now beginning to feel the stinging from it.

"I'm fine." I said, though I wasn't sure if that was true. With everything I discovered, I might as well not have been. "I don't know." I corrected myself. "When were you shot?" I asked her. She certainly seemed nice.

"Not long after we split up, actually. We made it down a few halls, before we ran into a large group of guards. None of us were really that good with a gun, and John…" she trailed off, shedding a tear. "Amy and I turned back. I was shot twice, and she figured that if I couldn't shoot, she was as good as dead. Can you believe it? My twin sister wanted to get out so she didn't get shot, when I was already shot." She shook her head. "You came from Amity, right?"

"Yes. I think that you would have liked it there." I said gently. "Was it your test result?"

"Yes. Amy got Dauntless, but didn't want to leave Erudite, since I stayed. I got to choose first, and I didn't want to leave my family, so I stayed. Amy stayed, just so she could mess with me more." I really felt bad for her. "I was either going to choose Abnegation or Amity, but I'm not good at making decisions."

I suddenly felt extremely tired. I hadn't rested in a while, and I hadn't slept well either. I moved against the back wall of the car so I could look out of the door. My heart rate finally returned to normal and I drifted off, watching the city pass by.

oOoOo

Abnegation and Dauntless are scattered. What is left of the former has also taken refuge with the Amity, where Dauntless is divided into two sub-factions: the Erudite-sympathizers and the rebels. The rebelling group is joining with us, with the Erudite-sympathizers strongly against.

Soon, I would see my home again. But there was a part of me that didn't belong there. I wanted to go back to Amity, but I wanted to go back to the way Erudite was—no evil leader, just the pursuit of knowledge. But still a part of me wanted to stay on the train and just let the others fight this war without me.

I had no idea what I was going to do. All that I knew was that I would know who made it out alive when I got to Amity.

Dawn the Amity, the peaceful, would struggle with what was coming next, though I didn't know what even was next, I just knew that it wasn't going to be easy.

Dawn the Erudite, the intelligent, would struggle with not getting emotionally involved in this and not choosing sides.

Dawn the Candor, the honest. I was not sure how Candor I was now, since the only thing that made me Candor was my aura-reading—me being able to detect lies. Maybe I could gain it back.

I felt that neither Amity, Erudite, nor Candor singularly defined me anymore. That's what being Divergent was, I guess. I was not defined by one word.

Cody said that he was going to create a Divergent Army. I had no idea what he meant by that. Maybe I was going to find out who he was communicating with soon.

I just knew that there wasn't a possibility that I could ever really return to how my life was before. Everything I had seen changed me already, and I knew that more was going to happen. We may have stopped the battle, but what was to say that a real war wasn't on the rise? I will find out what is going to happen soon enough.

Dawn the Amity…

Dawn the Erudite…

Dawn the Candor…

Dawn the Divergent.

I'm not sure what I will be, what I will have to be, or what I really even am now.

But I'm going to find out, whether I want to or not.
