Chapter 44

August 2032. It was Harmione's first day as a Freshman in high school. I thought her first day of Kindergarten was bad for me, turns out her freshman year was even harder. Justice and Jesse would be in 2nd grade this year. They still don't have any signs of powers. Harmione though sure has grown and changed a lot since she reached puberty. Which is natural, I just don't want her to change too much. She came into the kitchen wearing a black sweater and skinny jeans. I sighed.

"Har?"

"Yeah?"

"Go change."

"What's wrong now?"

"Your jeans...they're to skinny."

Harmione scoffed and left the kitchen. Hope looked up at me from over a cup of coffee as she sat across from me at the table.

"Ben...that's the third time...she's got to eat her breakfast and get going."

"She's not going to school dressing like uh...uh...I'm not gonna have boys looking at her Hope, I won't have it."

"You were 14 once."

"I know...and I know how they think."

"So do I...and there's nothing wrong with boys looking at her...A boy saved me by looking at me."

"Yeah...but I fell in love with you...besides she's too young to be in love."

"You weren't too young...you were 16 when you asked me out...remember?"

"Whose side are you on?!"

"Yours...but honey you can't keep her locked in this house...she's not a little girl anymore."

"Yeah...well she's my little girl...and if any boy out there tries to make a pass at her it will be the last thing they ever do."

Harmione entered about that time wearing boot cut jeans and a grey hoodie. The hood was pulled up over her head.

"Is this any better...I tried to find something that would hide me the best."

"Harmione...I think you should wear what you want to wear...its your first day and I-"

"That's great Princess." I interrupted Hope.

"Daddy, when you drop me off; you're dropping off Justice and Jesse first right?"

"I always drop them off after I drop you off, you know that."

"Can't you drop them off first this time...I don't want them to embarass me."

"Har...they're your brothers what can they do to embarrass you?"

When I dropped Harmione off I discovered what she meant. We pulled up to school doors when her brothers began to tease her. There must have been at least 20 or 30 kids out front. The boys reminded me of me when I was their age.

"Sissy looks like a marshmallow!" began Justice.

"Yeah...with a big butt!" Jesse said with a laugh.

"Marshmallow butt! Marshmallow butt! Justice and Jesse began taunting. Harmione turned around in the passenger seat.

"I do not!"

"Marshmallow butt!" Justice shouted loudly.

"Shut up!" Harmione yelled back.

"Make us marshmallow butt!"

"Fine I will!" Harmione started to climb into the back of the car.

"Hey!" I shouted. "Hey...Harmione they're seven...let it go."

"But Daddy did you hear what they called me!?"

"They're just teasing Princess."

"Marshmallow..." Justice said softly.

"That's it!" Harmione threw her backpack toward the floor of the car. She reached behind us to slap Justice and Jesse.

"Harmione, Harmione stop!" I shouted as I pulled her back.

"Go on and go in." I told her. She huffed and pulled her hair behind her ears. She started putting one arm through the handle of her backpack.

"Turds." She mumbled softly.

"Har..."

She sighed and kissed my cheek.

"Bye Daddy I love you."

"I love you too, have a good day baby."

Despite the early morning feud she turned to her brothers and said:

"Bye Justice, bye Jesse...Iove you guys...be good in school."

She smiled shyly just like her mom does sometimes and got out of the car. She adjusted her grip on her bag and waved with her cell phone in her hand. She ran and met up with her closest friend Deanna. They walked into the school building together. Harmione Kay Tennyson's first day of high school. I was a nervous wreak for the rest of the day.
