Chapter 10: Prom Night

Felix walked in proudly with Tamora on his arm. He wore his dad's old tuxedo, which fit him like a glove. It was a pure black with a dark silver tie. His shoes thanks to his mom shined like diamonds. With some gel he combed his hair back and left his hat at home. Now Tamora oh man, did she look stunning. Her dress was a deep, midnight blue that flowed like waves. It went down to her feet and she wore silver sandals. Around her neck was a small silver chain necklace her dad bought her. She smiled down at Felix as he walked her to the dance floor.

Ralph wore a brown tux and it had patches in it but Daisy who, were a dark pink dress, still thought he looked great. She had her hair up in a bun and held close to Ralph's arm. The last couple to join them on the dance floor was Melanie and Keith. Melanie wore an emerald green dress and had her hair up in curls. She wore similar colored shoes and her mom's pearl necklace. Keith was wearing a dashing black tuxedo and had his hair gelled back. He gave Melanie a warm smile and held her close as they danced.

"Alright I admit, you clean up nice," Melanie said.

"Thanks, you look very beautiful," Keith told her.

"Thanks," she said smiling.

"Oh Ralph, you are so adorable," Daisy said happily.

"Thanks Daisy, I like your dress," Ralph said bashfully. He was having a very good time, and happy that Daisy was too.

"Not too bad of a dancer, Felix," said Tamora.

"Thanks Tammy, glad you are having fun," he said blushing. Felix never had a girlfriend before and didn't really know what to do. There was a lot Tamora didn't know about him. Even more so, a lot he didn't know about her. He felt if this relationship was going to work, he would have to tell her one of his secrets. Before he and Ralph picked up their dates. Felix asked Ralph if he could reveal the secret to Tamora. Ralph agreed for it was a long time ago and he knew they could trust Tamora. "Hey Tammy, why don't we um go get some punch," Felix said.

"Okay," she agreed. He led her to the punch bowl and handed her a cup. Then found a vacant bench to sit on. "Wow the gym looks great," Tamora said, commenting on the decorations. White and blue balloons covered the rafters. The lights were dimmed in blue and silver. Near the entrance, was a snack bar and a fountain of chocolate. At the dead front of the gym was a DJ playing mixed music.

"Yeah, the decorating committee did well," Felix agreed.

"Somehow I don't think that is why you brought me here," Tamora said.

"Um no, I wanted to tell you something. I care for you Tamora and I want you to know I trust you. So, I wanted to tell you a secret of mine. My dad died when I was young and I had to spend two years of my high school days as a janitor to make ends meets," Felix began.

"You don't have to continue Felix, I already know. You see back at the bowling alley I went to go find Melanie and she was talking to Keith, I overheard everything," Tamora explained.

"Wow, well this went a lot better than I thought it would," Felix said, happy Tamora still liked him.

"Okay, now it is my turn to reveal a secret. At my last school, when I was a freshman, I fell hard for a sophomore boy. His name was Brad Scott and he was the first guy to see me as a pretty girl. All the other guys I met called me some not nice things. Anyways, we dated all throughout high school, till his senior year. He went to a party and got into a car wreck. He died instantly," Tamora said shedding tears.

"Oh Tammy, I am so sorry," Felix said holding her. He too had tears running down his face.

"It's okay, short stack, I am glad to let it out," she whispered. Just then they heard a commotion from the parking lot. Felix and Ralph saw Blake bashing their car with a tire iron.

"Hey, get away from my truck!" Ralph yelled.

"Ralph, no he is my cousin, I deal with him," Keith said seriously. Ralph stepped back and allowed Keith to walk up to Blake.

"Hey cuz, grab a, a, fireiron, let's ep, trash this thing," Blake said, so drunk he could barely stand.

"No cuz, this is wrong, you are going home," Keith said.

"No, I's ain't," argued Blake. Keith swung a fist at his cousin and Blake fell.

"Yes, you are," Keith said and grabbed his cell phone and called Blake's dad. "Please don't press charges on my cousin, I know he would have done this even if he wasn't drunk but please, he is my cousin," begged Keith.

"Alright, if someone pays for the damages," Ralph said.

"It will get paid and thanks," Keith said. Blake was taken home and the gang went back to the party.

"That was so sweet of you to not charge Blake," Daisy said.

"Yeah, well thanks Daisy," Ralph said smiling.

"I am sorry for my cousin, but I will pay for the damages," Keith said.

"Thanks Keith, you know you are different from your cousin," Melanie said smiling.

"You know besides from the car incident, this turned out to be a good night," Tamora said smiling. Then she kissed Felix's lips and his heart was filled with joy.

"Best Night ever," he agreed. Then the couples danced the night away, wondering where their futures would take them.
