They were going to die here, in this prison beneath the earth. No one would even mourn their passing.

It feels like they've been trapped in their bunker beneath the earth for years. The four walls have been closing in on them slowly. Day by day, the cement foundation creeps closer to them, threatening to bury the group beneath the earth in one silent, unmarked grave. They have already been forgotten by the few left who could remember them. No one will mourn their passing.

Bobby has been calm, collected, put together throughout the whole ordeal, but now he sits, head in his hands, struggling to remember how to breath. It isn't that he's afraid of death. He has come to terms with the end they will all inevitably face. He just doesn't want to die here. He feels too hot. If he could melt away, slip down through the cracks in the floor and disappear forever, he would not hesitate to do so.

He jumps when a pair of hands slide around his shoulders from behind and Kitty presses her face into his hair. "It's Okay." She tries to soothe him quietly, but she doesn't say what they both know. 'It will all be over soon.'

She helps him breath by counting softly in his ear, keeping time with soothing circles that she rubs into his arms.

He can't deny that Kitty is the strong one, though he has tried so hard, over the last few years, for her. "I can't stay down here any longer," he admits. "I feel like I'm going crazy." And he is. The world swims around him uncomfortably, rushes and slows at its own warped pace. He can never seem to be able to keep up. He's been hearing things as well; creaking and groaning from the ceiling, rats rustling about on the floor, on the walls, in his bed… It's everywhere all at once and it's too much for him to handle.

It's too goddamn hot down here.

"If I had your powers I'd be gone," he says.

She has more faith in him than that. "No you wouldn't."

He wonders how long it's been since they were last truly at peace. He turns and pulls her to him. Kitty is the one bright thing left in his bleak world, and he plans to show her how important she is to him. He clings to her, holding her roughly, trying to keep from crying into her matted hair. They're interrupted by Bishop, who stumbles into the room, his fingertips massaging his temples.

"It's time to move on!"

Kitty entwines her fingers with his, pulling him along behind her. The couple steps through one of Blink's portals, hand in hand. "It'll get better," she promises as she guides him forward into a sea of stars. He takes in great breaths of fresh air. The moisture of the mist soaks into his skin on contact and cools him. For one fleeting moment, Bobby feels free.

He pulls Kitty into his arms, ignoring the way that she shivers from the cold air around them, and makes his own declaration, "As long as you're with me, everything is fine."
