Making Amends- Chapter 16

Sitting at the breakfast table Kazumi waited for her father to get up for the day. The sun wasn't even up yet but she understood Kakashi's internal clock better then himself almost.

"You are up early my child."

"Mmh, I was thinking maybe I'd go with you to the KIA stone. Then we can do som training."

"I suppose that would be fine."

Kakashi walked about the kitchen in the pale light that was very slowly come through the window.

"There's fresh coffee."

He walked to the pot sitting alone and poured half a cup. Kakashi wasn't a big coffee drinker, that was more Kazumi's thing. Kakashi was a traditional man, tea was his go to. But for his daughter he would indulge in the new ways. If only to not feel out dated with the younger generation.

Father and daughter left their home shortly after getting ready to face the day. They stopped my the Yamanaka Flower shop before making way to the KIA stone. While Kakashi stood for what could have been hours Kazumi went to visit her parents. It was not often she did so, but today was different. Today was the anniversary of their death. And even though true to her word it was hard for her to remember what her parents looked like. She would still honor them and the life they had lived as shinobi of Konoha.

They didn't stay long, even though normally Kakashi could stand there for hours. A mark of his own penance, though it would never take away from what had been done. The two walked to a clearing in the training grounds one of the few not being used that morning.

"A little Tai-jutsu for today."

"Sounds good to me."

Kazumi replied back to her father. They both got into a fighting stance to begin the sparing match. This was going to be fun, especially since Kazumi had been doing a little training of her own.

"Excellent, it is always good to be well ready for a fight. Not enough practice and you'll get rusty."

"You sure you can handle me old man. I have been training on my own for the last year or so."

"Let's go a few rounds before deciding who can handle who. Ladies first."

She charged at him with her full speed, knowing she truly was no match for him. Aiming a closed fist at Kakashi she was just a tad too slow. Kakashi moved out of the way before her arm was fully extended.

"Your speed is off, you most certainly need to work on that."

"Yea I know that, but its not going to stop me from trying."

"Well let's see if you can dodge this."

Kakashi moved his leg to aim a kick at her head. Kazumi just barely moved out of the way from the impact that kick could have had.

"Very good my child, you can at least dodge."

Kazumi tried again to come at her father, this time she came at him with her right fist. But he caught it in one swift move and spun her around to hold her in a headlock.

"Now, how do you plan to get out of this one?"

She thought about it for a moment and then acted. She kicked him just above his right ankle causing Kakashi to lose balance and loosen his grip on her. With her opening she had gained access to turn and face him once more. Kazumi threw her right fist to his face, this time she connected. Kakashi released her completely and skidded away from his child.

"Uh, I think you might have broken my nose."

Kakashi said while holding his nose and trying to speak.

"Oh no, here let me see. I mean I am a doctor."

Kazumi came up to her father. She removed his hand from his face then his mask came down just enough to uncover Kakashi's nose. His nose was indeed bleeding, but not broken.

"Not broken. But I can still heal it so there will be no bruising or pain."

"Yes, that would be great."

"So I think we can call this one a draw."

Kazumi said as she healed Kakashi's nose.

"Alright I will give you that. This time around. Next time, I won't go easy on you."

"Seriously, you call this going easy. Dad, I feared for my life for a moment there."

"Good, it means you were being serious."

Kakashi looked his daughter in the face now that he was all healed.

"I've kept you hidden from the true evils of this world for far too long. And for that I apologize. The last few months I know you witnessed some pretty real things without knowing everything. Let's go home, get cleaned up, and I will tell you a few things."

"Okay,"

They headed home to shower and eat some lunch as it was now mid-afternoon. While in the shower Kazumi noticed a few very small bruises. They wouldn't last much longer as a medic-nin she had the ability to make them disappear as if they were ever there.

"Alright so what more do you want to tell me that I don't already know."

"Sit, I made some lunch for us."

She did as told and after a few spoonfuls of her lunch did Kakashi speak again.

"You've met both Itachi and Shisui when you were little. I was a few months after you permanently came to live with me. He had just joined my ANBU team and I had a solo mission. I had hired a team of Genin to watch you in my absence. But because you found them unintelligent enough to care the kind of conversations a small girl of six was not known to have, you snuck away. I don't think you remember much of what happened because Shisui altered some of you memories. It seems you stumbled upon an Uchiha meeting by chance. When I returned home Fugaku had his son and nephew bring you back to me."

He paused to give her time to take it in.

"I remember a little of that but its very fuzzy."

"That would be Shisui's jutsu. At the time it was for your own protection. That meeting you walked into, it was one of many to come. It was the beginning talks of the Uchiha over throwing the Village Elders. And even though Fugaku enjoyed those enlightening talks with you the few days you had been with the Uchiha. He couldn't risk you knowing more then you already did. Shisui nor Itachi told me what had gone on or what you had seen as to why the older cousin was forced to disrupt your memories. Not until recently, Shisui said he can undo his jutsu and you will be among the very few who know what had gone on in that very first meeting."

"I don't think I want to know. Not yet that is."

"Perfectly fine. There is a much bigger war coming. One that can change the fate of our world. Itachi had once prevented a war from coming, so you all of the younger generation would not have to live through the same he did as a small child. But he can't stop this one. Madara Uchiha, a man everyone thought was long dead has declared war on all Shinobi Nations."

"War is unavoidable this time around. So how do we prepare for it?"

"You and I will train everyday. But when the time comes you have to stay in the Village where you are safe. Don't fight me on this my child, I can make it an official order that you stay here."

"I wasn't going to fight you on it. I know where I am most useful. It's in a hospital helping people. I'm not a fighter, I know that very well."

"Good. Well enough of the doom and gloom talk how about we move on to something more pleasant."

"Yes that would be more enjoyable."

Three months later:

Sasuke had been held in solitary confinement for nearly three months now, in that time Kazumi had spent her days working in the hospital. Helping patients and jump in on surgeries when asked. At the moment she'd just finished a two week straight run and was very ready to head home. As she put away her files she thought about going to the Uchiha Compound to see how everyone was doing. Yes, she was even going to stop by the market to pick up a few things. With her mind made up, Kazumi worked faster to finish her task.

After her stop at the market she was even more excited to go see the Uchiha's. She walked the path known to her as the way to get to the main house of the Compound. The house coming into view Kazumi now started to feel nervous about her decision to come here.

"Hey kid,"

There was a voice that came from behind her startled her very much.

"What the-, oh Shisui its just you."

"Yup just me. What brings you here little Hatake?"

"I was wondering how you all were doing."

"Aw, so cute. Well come on kid let's go inside."

The two walked into the house to join the others inside.

Wow so this took longer then I thought to be finished. But I am now pleased with how this chapter turned out. I do hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing this one. Happy reading - itachiluv89
