Chapter 3

"Uganda. Capital, Kampala. Zambia. Capital, Lusaka. And Zimbabwe, drum-roll please…"

Jake rolled his tongue in a terrible impressions of a snare drum, using his fingers as makeshift drumsticks. He and Olivia were walking along a paved road toward their very first work site. When they left the house that morning, he told her that he had a surprise for her, and made her promise that she would keep her eyes closed once they got closer to their destination. Now, he was walking backwards in front of her, leading her towards her surprise. Olivia, to her credit, was keeping her end of the bargain. Her eyes were shut tight and her steps were assured. She obviously trusted him to lead her to safety. Jake was actually quite impressed with her commitment to their little game.

"Harare!" Olivia threw her hand up in celebration and Jake cupped his hand around his mouth to simulate a cheering crowd. She asked him to give her some information about his childhood on the island. Jake really didn't want to talk about it, but he knew he was going to have to open up eventually. He told Olivia she could ask him any question she wanted - if she could name all the countries in Africa, along with their capitals, in alphabetical order. She actually did it. Now she was dancing around in a fitted pair of black yoga pants and a white runner's tank, celebrating her accomplishment.

Olivia stumbled slightly and reached out her arms for his support. He quickly reached out to steady her. "Easy, Ms Pope. I don't want you to fall and damage that pretty face of yours."

"You think I'm pretty?" With her eyes still closed, Olivia smiled a big smile. She tightened her grip on him and tilted her head back soaking in the compliment.

Jake laughed out loud at her silliness. "Yes Olivia, I think you're very pretty." His eyes roamed over her face and he was overcome with the desire to kiss her. Get a grip, Ballard, he silently chided himself. He wanted to go just one day where he didn't think about nibbling on that delicious mouth of hers. "And also very smart. You're quite the geography Olympiad, Ms Pope. Keep your eyes closed, we're almost there." They continued walking, but this time Jake held Olivia's hands in his.

"Why do I feel like you're teasing me?"

"Because I am, a little."

"Jake!" she exclaimed, smacking him playfully in the chest.

"Ow, woman!" Jake grabbed her hands again. Part of him wanted to keep her from taking another stumble, part of him just missed her touch. "Considering your eyes are closed, your aim is surprisingly accurate. Are you peeking?"

"Jake... everything about me is surprisingly accurate."

"Don't I know it." Jake teased.

"Okay, it's my turn. I get to ask a question. You told me you were from Indiana."

"That's not a question."

"Jacob Ballard!"

"Okay, okay," he laughed before continuing. "I am. Well, my father was from Indiana. My mother was French. They met here, on this island. When we weren't in Indiana, we were here."

"Oh. So how often were you here?"

"Mostly summers. But I haven't been here in about twenty-two years."

"Why?"

Jake stopped walking. They had reached their destination. "That's enough with the questions right now Ms. Pope, we're here." Jake repositioned their bodies so he was standing behind her, "Open your eyes."

"Oh, Jake."

He smiled, "Beautiful isn't it?" They were just feet away from the water's edge. The light blue water glittered like diamonds in the sunlight, and the white sand was dazzling under their feet. It was paradise.

"I keep telling myself that it can't get anymore beautiful, but it always does. Thank you, Jake."

"You're welcome." Her happiness pleased him so much, he couldn't help the goofy grin that broke out on his face. "Behind us is Mount Teurafaatui. It's only about a quarter of a mile above sea level, but from the top you can see the entire lagoon. And on a clear day, you can see all the way to Bora Bora. It was my mother's favorite view of the island. Even after she got sick and couldn't make it to the top, she would come here and just sit, staring out into the ocean for hours on end."

"What happened to her?"

Jake sighed, "Breast cancer." Jake thought of his mother, skinny and frail, soaking up the island sun while she sat quietly down by the water's edge. It seemed to him that in those final days, she didn't want to be anywhere but here. It was a bit strange, but he could still feel her here, which made him miss her with a longing he hadn't felt since her was a little more than a child. He cleared his throat and shook himself out of that particular memory. "The building off to the right is the new school Pete is building. And the trailer to the left is his temporary office. It will relocate to the next site when this job is finished."

"Is this where you disappeared to yesterday morning?"

He was about to answer her when he noticed a small table with a woman's purse sitting on top of it. "Is that yours?" he asked Olivia.

She shook her head, "No, I didn't carry a purse with me."

"Hello Jake."

Her voice caught him off guard. He knew he was going to run into her eventually but now that the moment had arrived, he didn't feel prepared to handle it. He hesitated only slightly before he turned to greet her with a smile. "Ana. It's good to see you."

She looked good. She was the same warm color of bronze that he remembered. Her dark hair was long and thick, and fell to the middle of her back in a flowing cascade of loose curls. She was dressed casually in a long flowing skirt and a cotton tank top. Her face was bare of any makeup, but her skin looked smooth and soft. She was stunning.

Ana laughed, "It's been twenty two years and that's all you have to say to me? Well Cobby, it's good to see you too. I guess. "

"Cobby?" Jake flinched at the use of his old nickname. He was more than a little chubby as a child, and Ana thought his wide shapeless form resembled an ear of corn. That along with his name, gave Ana the perfect ammunition to use against him in their childhood teasings. The first time she called him Cobby, he picked her up and tossed her over the side of the boat they were floating in. She climbed back in, laughing and splashing him with water from her wet hair, singing a made up song about corn cobs. After that, the nickname, and the teasing nature of their friendship, stuck. It was nice to know that not much had changed between them after all these years. "You guess it's good to see me? Aww Ana, that stings a little." He pressed his fingertips to his chest and rubbed a precise circle over his heart. "And I don't really think you can call me Cobby anymore," he joked, puffing out his chest a bit in an exaggerated pose.

Jake watched as Ana quickly ran her eyes over his now chiseled form and a smile came to his face. He was used to women offering him appreciative glances, but it felt a little more special coming from this woman in particular. He was surprised to learn that her appraisal still flattered him.

"That name stopped being appropriate right around the time you turned sixteen, if I recall correctly. But you'll always be Cobby to me."

"Well aren't you sentimental?"

Ana laughed and punched Jake lightly in the arm, which caused him to bop her on the top of her head. She then pushed him on his shoulder and he tapped her nose. It was a old game they used to play that had quickly become a ritual. She poked his stomach and he pulled on her ear, causing them both to laugh as they played out the memory of their childish antics. Their eyes met and Jake couldn't help but be swept away on the nostalgic wave that flowed between them. He found himself pulling Ana close and wrapping her up in a tight embrace.

Her hair still smelled the same, like coconuts and sunshine. He inhaled deeply and resisted the urge to tangle his fingers in the silky locks as he would have done in the past. She was tall, almost as tall as him, and she fit nicely in his arms. Her arms wrapped around his body and her hand traveled up and down his back. It felt nice.

Olivia cleared her throat behind him and brought him out of his daze. He was so caught up with Ana's sudden appearance that he had all but forgotten that Olivia was standing there. He released Ana from his embrace and took a step away from her, ignoring the confused look on her face. I'm sorry. Olivia, this is Ana Keahi. Ana, Olivia Pope."

"Olivia. So nice to finally meet you." Ana extended her hand towards Olivia and she gave it a firm shake before stepping in to kiss her lightly on the cheek. Jake saw Olivia stiffen slightly and he fought to suppress the tiny chuckle that danced behind his lips. "Pete told me that Jake was traveling with a friend. How are you enjoying our tiny island?" Ana continued, oblivious to Olivia's discomfort.

Olivia's mouth slide into a half smile before she answered. "I haven't been able to see much of it, but so far it's been great."

Ana turned her attention back to Jake. "You haven't taken her on a grand tour?"

"No, not yet. We haven't really had the chance."

"Well," Ana stated, focusing on Olivia again, "Don't wait too long. If this one won't take you, Pete will. He's an excellent tour guide. The island doesn't offer much of a nightlife, but there isn't a more beautiful place in the world. But we're a little biased here, aren't we Cobby?" Ana grabbed his hand and held it loosely.

Jake's eyes went immediately to Olivia. She glanced at the familiar way his hand rested in Ana's loose grip, and then quickly looked away. He tried to meet her gaze, but she was focused on something off over his shoulder. Olivia had developed a habit of not making eye contact with him and he didn't like it. He felt like she was hiding from him. He was hit with a sudden wave of guilt, which he quickly shook off. There was nothing to feel guilty about. He and Ana were just friends.

And even if they were more than friends, Olivia had made it very clear that she wasn't interested in a romantic relationship with him. Besides Ana was just being affectionate, she always had been the type of person to greet you with a hug, or hold your hand while discussing the weather. "Yeah, I suppose we are a little biased." He gave Ana's hand a light squeeze before he released it and crossed his arms.

"Well," Olivia turned her attention toward Ana, "I would love to take a look around the island, but Jake told me I was being put to work."

"Hey, you told me you were okay with the plan, Ms. Pope. Don't go blaming me for your lack of recreational time."

"I'm not blaming you for anything, I'm just saying." She pointed her chin slightly in his direction before she continued, "I'm happy to help."

"Well good. And with everything that's been going on with Daddy…" Ana's voice fell off and she lowered her head slightly. Jake placed his flat palm in the small of her back. They hadn't discussed it, but he knew that Ana was having a hard time dealing with her father's illness. He rubbed her back lightly and she looked at him with a smile before turning her attention back to Olivia. "Both Pete and I appreciate the help. Thank you."

"You're welcome."

He watched Olivia tuck a curly strand of loose hair behind her ear. The sun was shining brightly behind her, encasing her silhouette in a halo of warm light. Her hair was pulled back into a half pony tail and fell in soft springy curls that traveled down her neck and rested on her shoulders. A few curls traveled lower still and tickled her collarbone, drawing his eye lower to the curved dip in her tank top. She looked beautiful. It was a big change from the pressed and polished Washington, DC version of Olivia he was used to.

Anyone who knew Olivia knew that she was a woman accustomed to a certain lifestyle. Olivia Pope was not one to "rough it". It's not that she didn't know how, she just didn't see why she should. He knew that about her. And yet, he still brought her to this island. Sure it was a tropical paradise, but they hadn't been here for more than twenty-four hours before he asked her to get her hands dirty. He worried that she was starting to regret being here on the island. Jake made a mental note to ask her if she would like to take a trip with him to the main island, be a tourist for a while.

The insistent peep of an angry island bird off in the distance brought him out of his mesmerized state. He quickly dragged his eyes away from Oliva. He didn't want to get caught staring at her. He seemed to be doing a lot of that lately. Jake turned to look at Ana and was surprised to see her watching him with a questioning gaze.

"So Ana, what are you doing on site this morning?" He wasn't prepared to answer any questions about his relationship with Olivia. Especially to Ana.

"Well Cobby, I came to talk to you, actually."

"Oh. Well…" Jake was surprised. He wasn't sure what Ana wanted to talk to him about, but his instincts had him on guard. "Of course. But, I was just about to take Olivia to see Pete, get her set up for the day."

"Pete's right here." The trio turned to watch Pete as he stepped out of the trailer behind them and closed the door. He made his way over to the group and stood beside Olivia, draping his arm lazily over her shoulder. "I'd be happy to take Olivia off of your hands for a while."

The sight of Pete's arm on Olivia's shoulder didn't sit well with Jake, but he clenched his jaw and swallowed the possessive declaration that wanted to escape. "Well, maybe I should be there too. "

"No Jake, it's fine. Pete can show me around while you and Ana catch up." Olivia took Pete's hand in hers and lifted it off her shoulder and over her head before placing it neatly at his side.

He turned and looked at Ana, who gave him a pleading look. Jake groaned to himself. He was really looking forward to showing Olivia around the site and getting her set up in her job. He was hoping that they would be able to work together. He opened his mouth to say so, when Ana cut him off by linking her arm with his.

"See Cobby, it's fine. And I won't keep you long, I promise."

He turned to Olivia once more, looking for any indication that she wanted him to stay with her, but he was met with a bright reassuring smile. "If you're sure it's okay Olivia."

"Of course it's okay," Pete grabbed Olivia by the wrist and started to lead her towards the construction site. "We'll be down by the school if you need anything."

"It was nice to meet you Olivia," Ana called out after them, tightening her hold on Jake's arm.

Olivia managed a tight smile and a curt nod of her head before she disappeared around the corner of the building, leaving Jake alone with Ana. He turned and looked at her and when their eyes met her lips twisted into an awkward smile.

Jake squinted his eyes at her, "What's with the look?"

Ana shrugged her shoulders lightly, "I don't know. I just can't believe you're that here. And that I'm here. We're both here, together." Smiling, she looked into his eyes, "You came, Jake."

He peeled his arm away from her grasp and gave her a choked laugh. "Of course I came. Why wouldn't I?"

Ana put her hands on her hips and leaned away from him, tilting her head to the side. Her eyes roamed over his face before she squinted and crossed her arms at her chest. "Gee, I don't know. Maybe because you haven't come back in twenty two years?"

Jake exhaled and rubbed his hand roughly over the back of his neck. "Ana…"

"Or," she continued, taking a step closer to him, "Maybe because you've missed weddings, birthdays...funerals."

"Well, I'm here now."

"For how long? Why did you come back? "

He shook his head and made his way over to the small table and sat on the top, facing the view of the ocean. Jake felt Ana climb onto the table next to him and but he didn't turn to look at her. He kept his gaze out to the sea. The sky was a deep royal blue where it met the water. Puffy clouds floated by with a lazy gait and danced casually with their fluffy reflections mirrored in the glassy waters of the ocean's surface below. It was so calm here. His life in DC had been anything but calm. The time he spent working as Command had been the most trying time of his life. He had power and he wasn't afraid to use it. Killing James was a turning point for him. He knew it had to be done, but the weight of it pressed so heavily on him, sometimes he found it hard to breath. "I don't know Ana. I just needed to get away. There was so much going on, so much not being said. So much confusion and chaos. So many lies. I just..."

He turned to Ana with a furrowed brow and asked, "Do you remember when we were kids and we stole my dad's sailboat?"

"Of course I remember that day, Jake. That's the day you said you never wanted to turn out like him." Ana flashed a bittersweet smile and took his hand in hers. Her skin was soft and warm, and he linked their fingers together. He found a small bit of comfort in her touch. Jake nodded and swallowed to clear the knot that had suddenly formed in his throat. They sat in silence for several long moments while Jake thought back to that tiny boat floating idly in the waters. He could remember so strongly how he wanted to steer that sailboat out of the lagoon and away from everyone and everything. But Ana had convinced him to stay. He could still feel the sun on his back as he moved inside of her, still feel her warm breath against his ear as she whispered his name. Jake let go of Ana's hand and rubbed both hands over his face, exhaling a deep breath.

"I told people that you were dead. I had to. No family, no friends. That was the rule. But, Pete's my family. And you..." Jake trailed off, not really sure how to continue. It was hard to define their relationship. They had always been the best of friends. But they were also much more than that. They were each others firsts. First friend, first love, first time. As the years passed without any contact, he began think of her as a sister and a friend. Eventually he stopped thinking of her altogether. Being around her again made it easier to remember all that they had been to each other.

"Dead? Jake, what rule? What are you talking about? What's going on with you? Talk to me." She turned to look at him with concern in her eyes, "Is this about Olivia?"

"What? Why would you think this was about Olivia?"

Ana shrugged, "I don't know. You avoid this place for twenty-two years, you tell people we're dead. And when you finally resurface, you bring a woman with you? A very beautiful woman. That's a big deal Cobby. Are the two of you together? Are you in trouble?"

Jake laughed a small, humorless laugh. "No, we're not." They could have been. It was pointless for Jake to pretend that he wasn't in love with Olivia. He thought of Olivia's small hands, and her big smile. He thought of how she always put everyone's happiness before her own. He thought of the few times she allowed him to be her strength. He thought of the many time she pushed him away. But as hard as she pushed against him, he couldn't seem to walk away. There was definitely something between them. Olivia had gotten under his skin in a way that no woman had since…

He looked over at Ana and shook his head, clearing his mind of the thoughts he was having. "No Ana, everything is fine. We're just here to take a break and help out."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. Now, what did you want to talk to me about?"

Ana sighed and met his gaze with her eyebrows raised, "Awkward segue, Cobby." She gave him a knowing smile before she stood and crossed away from him, looking out to the ocean. "It's about my husband. I assume Pete filled you in?"

"He told me that you had to leave Hawaii, but nothing more. Are you okay, Ana?" Jake stood and crossed to Ana, grabbing her arm and turning her around to face him. "Did he hurt you?"

"Down boy," Ana teased, "I'm fine. We're separated. The kids are with him right now, but they'll be joining me here in a few weeks."

"Oh, good." Ana's skin felt hot where Jake held her arm. Their eyes met and something sparked between them, which caused Jake to release her arm and take a step back . "Then what is it?"

Ana narrowed her gaze on him before she turn to make her way back to the table they were sitting on. "The bastard is trying to stick it to me in the divorce." She grabbed the bag that had been sitting there and pulled out a small flash drive. "I found some documents in a hidden folder on his laptop. Naturally, I copied them." She handed him them flash drive. "They were mostly government contracts. Some military, some stuff with the EPA. I wasn't really sure what I was looking at, to be honest."

"What do you want me to do with them?"

"You're a military man. I thought maybe you could look them over and tell me what you think?"

"I don't know Ana. I'm not even sure what I'm looking for." Jake tried to pass the flash drive back to her, but she refused to take it. She balled her fists and and shook her head lightly in protest.

"I just want you to look look at them." Ana exhaled sharply and looked at Jake with tired eyes. "I've been working with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. We've been fighting to help families hold on to their ancestral land. People are losing their homes, their history." She looked into his eyes, "Your mother made sure that you would always have a place to call home. C'est votre maison, Jake. I'm trying to help other mothers, other fathers, do the same." Ana stuck out her bottom lip and rounded her eyes, blinking innocently.

"Not the pwease face." Jake rolled his eyes playfully. "You didn't have to bring out the big guns. I was going to say yes." He put the flash drive in his pocket. "Although I'm not sure how much I can help. And what does any of this have to do with your husband?"

"Kale left the non-profit a few years ago, to work for some big corporate conglomerate." Ana ran tense fingers through her shiny locks, "It has led to more than a few disagreements over the years. Kale's company is tied up in this, and it doesn't feel right. If there's is something in those documents that can stop him, I have to know."

Jake thought of the wall of boxes he had shipped to David Rosen's office and all of the things in those documents that didn't feel right to him. He'd left his suspicions on someone else's doorstep, and now a new set of suspicions had made their way to him. The last thing he wanted to do was get caught up in another scandal. But how could he tell Ana that he wouldn't help her? It's not like she was asking for much. He placed a hand on her shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile,

"Hey, I already told you I would look into it. Don't worry. If there's anything there I'll find it."

"Thank you Jake." Ana wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him lightly on the cheek. "It's so great to have you back."

Jake smiled at the small gesture of affection. Ana was a very important part of his life for a very long time and she had been removed from his life for just as long. There was a small part of Jake that believed that he would never see her or this island again. In many ways, it was good to be home. 'You're welcome." He broke the embrace and took a small step away from her so he could look her in the eyes. "Hey Ana, I'm sorry about your Dad."

She gave him a sad smile before she answered, "Thank you, Cobby. I'm actually going to see him now. Would you like to come with me? I'm sure he'd like to see you."

He scoffed, "I don't know about that."

"Jake, Daddy is dying. He's not holding on to old grudges, trust me. Besides," She cupped his cheek with a warm hand and Jake was surprised by her gentle touch, "Nothing that happened was your fault. He's knows that. I know that. And you know that. You're not your father, Jake."

"I know. And thank you, Ana." Michael Ballard was not a good man by any stretch of the imagination. His list of transgressions was long and varied. It took Jake a long time to accept that he was not to blame for his father's mistakes. He didn't carry one bit of guilt for his father's actions, not anymore. He let go of that a long time ago. His guilt was very new, and very fresh. He fought very hard not to end up like his father. Unfortunately he was starting to fear that the old adage about apples and trees was true. He knew he was going to have to face Ana's father eventually, but he just wasn't ready. "I can't go to see your father right now. I have to go and find Olivia. I'm sure she's wondering what is taking me so long. But please, tell him I said hi."

Once again Ana narrowed her gaze on Jake and he stirred under her scrutiny. He fully expected her argue with him. He was surprised when she simply nodded her head and let the subject drop.

"Okay, I will. But Jake, you should go see him soon. Who knows how long he'll be able to hang on." She crossed back to the table and grabbed her bag, slinging it over her shoulder. "And thank you for helping me Jake. I appreciate you. It's good to have you back." She flashed him a big grin before she continued, "Tell Olivia is was nice to meet her. She seems lovely." And with that, she was gone.

Jake sighed deeply. He hadn't thought about his father since he'd heard of the old man's death. There wasn't a single time in his life when he felt proud of his father. A little more than ten years ago a call came through from the police department in Fort Wayne. They told Jake that his father had been shot in the back sneaking out of the home of a married woman. The man was a decorated war veteran and an officer in the Navy, and he died drunk out of his mind with his pants around his ankles. A little over a year after his father died, Jake met Rowan Pope. Rowan offered Jake a new life, with a new identity, and a new sense of purpose. That's when he decided to walk away from his life, and never look back. That's when he joined B-613.

"Hello Cobby!" The sound of Olivia's voice brought him back to the present. She and Pete had made their way back from the school and were headed towards him.

"Whoa, easy Liv. That name is not to be used lightly. Something like that is libel to get you thrown out of a boat. I'd be careful if I were you."

Olivia smirked, "Well, we're not near any boats, so I guess I'll take my chances...Cobby."

"I'll remember that, Liv."

"I'm sure you will, Jacob."

"Well, as fun as this is," Pete interrupted, "I have to get going. I have a meeting with the city council about some zoning stuff. Liv is all set up down at the school, she's going to be doing some painting."

Jake smiled and raised an eyebrow at Olivia. "Painting? I would've assumed power tools."

She shrugged and smiled back at him, "I tried to go for the circular saw, but Pete told me that it wasn't needed," Olivia turned to Pete and winked, "Right now."

Pete made his way over to Jake and slapped him roughly on the back. "I like her Jake. She's feisty. Oh wait," he looked back at Olivia, "You told me not to call you that."

"Oh good, you remembered."

"I'm learning."

When Pete turned back to Jake he was smiling from ear to ear. Pete seemed to have taken a liking to Olivia. Suddenly, Jake felt very protective of her. He knew that Pete was a huge flirt, but he couldn't believe that he would be serious about pursuing Olivia. Still, he thought, it couldn't hurt to make sure that they were on the same page about Olivia.

"Hey Pete, let's grab a beer sometime soon and catch up."

"Absolutely," Pete grabbed Jake's hand and shook it loosely. "We'll set it up tomorrow."

"Sounds good."

"Okay, I have to go. Everything is set up for you guys down at the school. Olivia knows the plan. If you need anything, Ana should be here all day." Pete made his way back towards the road where his truck was parked. "Liv," he nodded in her direction.

"Pete," she returned his nod with a curt nod of her own before he disappeared from sight.

"Well," Jake turned to Olivia, "I hope he's not making you uncomfortable."

"Who, Pete?" Olivia laughed, "He's harmless. I can handle him."

"I don't doubt it. You two seem to have really hit it off."

Jake turned his back to her. He was jealous and he was acting like a fool. He was well aware of it and he didn't like it. He just hoped Olivia hadn't picked up on it. Jake had told himself that he wasn't going to chase after her anymore, and he meant it. Now if he could just make himself believe it.

"How is Ana? "

Her voice was light and friendly, but Jake could detect a slight edge in her tone. Maybe I'm not the only one feeling a little jealous. A smirk formed on his lips before he quickly wiped it away and turned to face her. "She's good. Going through a divorce, that can't be easy."

"Yeah, Pete told me. I hope that's okay?"

He thought of Ana and the flash drive she had given him. He wasn't sure why, but he had a bad feeling about this. What information could he possibly discover that would be of any help to her? Still, he'd look things over, it was the least he could do. It was funny how he'd gone from being the head of the most powerful covert government agency in the country, to a divorce court private investigator. Oh, how the mighty have fallen, he thought to himself with a wry chuckle. "I'm sure it's fine," He said to Olivia. Obviously her divorce was no big secret, but he thought he'd keep Ana's request for help to himself until he knew what he was dealing with. There was no reason to bring Olivia into someone else's relationship drama. She was dealing with enough on her own. "We should probably get to work."

Olivia nodded and started to make her way back towards the school. "But Jake, since Pete basically made me head painter-"

Jake scoffed, "Head painter?"

"Yes, head painter…" Olivia continued speaking over him."I will expect you to defer to me for all matters painted related."

"You are not the boss of me, Olivia Pope."

"No, but I am head painter." Olivia took off in a sprint. She started to laugh when Jake took off after her. Together, they made their way to the construction site, laughing and running in the sand.
