"You are a fool if you think that your order can protect them, Albus." Snape pinched his nose, angrily "Did your age make you blind? The Azkaban Escapees are his most loyal, most powerful and most able followers. They will cut through any ward, defence or patrol you will put here like a knife through butter! From the order only Mad-Eye, Flitwick, Potter and Black can measure up to them in power…" Snape made a disgusted face as he accepted that his arch-enemy was rather powerful.
"Where are you going with this, Severus?" Dumbledore took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes, tiredly "We, both know there is nothing else I can do. I cannot chain Harry or Jeremy and lock them in the tower; neither can I isolate this school from the world with Fidelius…"
"You can train them both, you can give them the ability to defeat Voldemort with time…"
"Jeremy has been trained, ever since Harry ran away. He is already better at duelling then the half of the aurors corpse…" Dumbledore replied with slight irritation.
"That is not what I'm talking about, Albus!" Greasy haired man snapped "The boy needs to develop his natural abilities… How many different bloods Potters have? Let's see… Blacks, Longbottoms, McKinnons, Malfoys… Oh, for Merlin's sake! He should have like five different abilities; one of them should be 'the power he knows not'."
"Voldemort may get these abilities by using the right blood for the resurrection ritual." Dumbledore ignored the loud sigh that came from his follower "I do not believe those abilities can be the 'power', the prophecy refers to. It must be something that Voldemort can't understand, even if he can use it. And the only 'power' I can find that work for every requirement is 'love' and…"
Snape grimaced at old man's stubbornness "Can you even hear yourself? Albus, please! Love, alone does nothing! Protections Lily used were one of the Potters greatest inventions, it turns house wards into very precise single shield; they still cannot recreate the wards in their Summer House…"
"We have been through this many times, Severus. You will not change my mind. The ability, the prophecy talks about works from the right state of mind. It should be something Tom does not understand… and so far it is either love or something only Harry managed to do…"
"What do you mean?" Snape jumped from his chair, so quickly it fell over "So he is 'the chosen' after all?"
"I do not know, Severus… I had been trying to figure it out, since Harry came back and I learnt of his powers." Seeing the confusion written all over the potion master, Dumbledore sighed and explained "The abilities he possesses have very… umnn… unorthodox price."
"What do you mean 'unorthodox price'?!" Snape pulled his hair with anger "If this is one of yours 'clean soul', non-sense…"
"It is not about me or my ideals, Severus; I know that killing an enemy in a war… It is about the boy's mind-set. He thinks that his abilities are not letting him injure anyone while I think it is because he, himself cannot bear the thought of killing someone… it does not help that both of us may be right."
"So… if we change his mind, we will have…" Snape started pacing around the office.
"I do not think that is possible, Severus; only something terrible will change his opinion… and even then, I'm not sure; it may actually break the boy or even kill him…" Old man trailed off, thinking about every possible outcome of his idea.
"Well, then" Severus said after long silence "Let's go back to the younger twin. How do you know that he does not have the same abilities elder twin has? They are the same blood, after all…"
"This ability comes from the mind-set, Severus not blood! And Jeremy is not Harry; they are very different… "
"Why are you so intent on turning 'power he knows not' into love?" Snape asked, throwing his hands in the air with frustration.
"Because it is just how it is." Dumbledore replied, offhandedly as he picked his pink sleeping hat from the table "Tomorrow, I will collect most important members of the order; We will start counter-measures without getting you in trouble, Severus… but right now, I want to rest"
Knowing he was being dismissed, Snape said his parting words "I promised her to protect them… and I will do whatever it takes to keep my promise, even if that means going against you, Albus, If you would not help them reach their full potential… I will."
"It is your choice, Severus." Dumbledore sighed, sadly as he stared at leaving man and returned to his bed.
Next morning, Jeremy and his friends were eating breakfast at the Gryffindor Table when much anticipated Daily Prophet owls flew into the great hall.
Wondering as to why everyone looked so excited, Jeremy looked at Hermione who was the only one of the 'golden trio' to read the newspaper. After she systematically scanned through every article, Hermione gave the folded paper and stated her verdict "Even your brother is not safe from Skeeter, Jeremy."
'WHO IS HARRY JAMES POTTER? THE JEALOUS BROTHER? THE NEXT DARK LORD? OR JUST A MISUNDERSTOOD GENIOUS?' screamed the title of the paper, quickly capturing attention of two boys.
'Yesterday, our special correspondent, Rita Skeeter attended the Wand Lifting Ceremony of Tri-Wizard Tournament.
Our selected Champions: famous Victor Krum; beautiful Fleur Delacour; charming Cedric Diggory and scandalous, Harry Potter; all given their wands to our British master: Garrick Ollivander.
Victor Krum showed us rather rough, oak wand with large topaz gem. Wand radiated power and strength proving that he is not only the best seeker in the world, but also a very strong wizard who is worthy of representing his school in such elite tournament.
Fleur Delacour had a wand which lives up to the name of her school. Red, almost pink wood with elegant design and beautiful rune work; we in Daily Prophet are sure that many girls and women would give a lot to have her wand.
Our British champion, Cedric Diggory was not behind the foreign champions; Chestnut and a hair of unicorn, very rare combination which displays his Hufflepuff's qualities – loyalty and hardworking. Wand is very well balanced giving Cedric flexibility in choosing his approach to the tasks.
But the most surprising was our youngest, Harry Potter who unlike other champions brought two wands to the Ceremony; both wands were piece of art, made of rare materials with carved, beautiful runes. At the end of the examination, Garrick Ollivander mentioned that the wands are strongest twin wands in the world. (Too see about twin wands; check the article below.)
Curious as ever, our reporter interviewed several Hogwarts' students; each and every one of them said that after his unmasking, Harry showed knowledge and magical power beyond his years.
All these facts made our correspondent question the intent of twin wands and second identity. Why would someone so young need such strong artefacts at his hands? Why hide under other name in school? May be to avenge his lonely childhood? Or perhaps to make everyone believe he is weak minded fool while taking over the government from the shadows…" After checking through ridiculous, stupid and even hilarious newspaper ideas, Jeremy stopped reading and looked over the Slytherin Table to find his brother who acted oblivious to new wave of looks and whispers as he buttered his toast.
"It looks like he does not know about the article…" Hermione observed "Do you think he knows?"
"Yeah, He probably does not." Ron managed to speak as he only had two pancakes in his mouth. "But who knows?" He swallowed "Slytherins always been good at hiding their emotions."
"Oi! How many times I have to tell you that he is not like them?" Jeremy shook his head.
"How do you know? Did you talk to him, after the champions' night?" Hermione asked with annoyance in her tone.
"No I did not, but I go with my gut's feeling… and my gut tells me, he is alright." Jeremy replied, his voice getting angrier too.
"Your gut will make a mistake one day! I mean come on, Jeremy! He may not be evil, but it is suspicious… and I will not let that 'I need to give everyone a chance' complex kill you…"
"Just let it go, Hermione." Ron intercepted the girl as he did many times before; Hermione had a bad habit of not accepting others' views. It always created friction between three friends, but when two of them fought, the third always came to help.
"But he needs to…" Hermione tried again.
"Just drop it, Hermione!" Ron repeated with the steel only his voice can produce.
Hermione huffed and they continued eating in the strained atmosphere, until Ron looked up into the air and asked "Hey, is that Hedwig? What would make your father write a letter? Doesn't he usually send messages through Mrs Potter?"
The snowy, white owl with unusually smart, golden eyes dived between three friends and landed near Ron's plate as it knew the tall boy had best pieces of meat. Taking a bite from the meat slice from the Weasley's dish, she turned to Jeremy and gave him the letter.
As Jeremy took the envelope and removed protections from the letter, Hermione wondered "What is that? I never saw it before." she pointed at the chest of the bird which had a new, small budge with two magically pictured lions moving in circles.
"That? Oh, dad finally made Hedwig, Potter's post owl; it is something like familiar bond, but stronger, since it is connected to the whole family… Took him long enough to realise that Hedwig is the smartest owl on earth." Jeremy replied, making the mentioned owl puff its chest and take another bite form Ron's bacon.
"Will you stop that?" Ron cried as he tried to shoo the bird away from his plate.
"Just let her eat Ron, this owl deserves it much more than you do." Hermione mocked the redhead and gave Hedwig a meat slice of her own
As his friends were discussing Ron's worthiness to eat food, Jeremy finally removed the last of the protection and whispered the marauder's password and opened the envelope.
'Jeremy
I do not have lots time; Dumbledore is assembling the Order of Phoenix for the first time in thirteen years and allowed him to use Potter Manor, so let me jump straight to the topic.
Ron's elder brother, Charlie contacted me with very worrying news. His group of dragon handlers are transferring several dragons to England; the dragons are a Russian Three-Horn, nest of Egyptian Fire Vultures, a Chinese Fireball and a Hungarian Horntail. I, Sirius, Remus thought four different types of dragons was too much of a coincidence with the tournament going on, so we investigated… and as much as I hate to say this, we were right.
Dragons are brought for the First Task; champions are to steal golden eggs from them. I tell you… people from Sports and Entertainment are idiots and morons who are willing to kill children for entertainment.
I'm scared for Harry. Please inform him of everything and help him if he needs to; this is the least we can.
If I'm reading all the signs, correctly, we all will have tough times soon.
Stay Safe
Dad
Ps. I know we all have trained you, but take Alastor's 'CONSTANT VIGILANCE' to heart.
PPs. Alastor told me that Dumstrang's and Beuxbaton's champions know, already, but Cedric does not, so tell the boy as well. I will try to inform Amos at the meeting, but I'm not sure if he is going to be there.
"Damn…" said Jeremy as he put the letter into his pocket with confusion and anger; his dad took him to the dragon reservation in Germany once and there, he saw how ten professional animal handlers had problems handling a single Welsh Green.
"What's up? What did your dad wrote?" asked Ron as he saw his friend's face darken.
"I will tell you later" Jeremy looked at fellow Gryffindors who kept sending him curious looks "but one thing is assured, my brother is in deep shit."
Sitting in the secluded corner of the Hogwarts' Library, Harry Potter unconsciously read through rules and regulations of Tri-Wizard Tournament for like a millionth time while his mind replayed the talk he had with his master just yesterday.
It left a weird feeling of duality.
He understood his master's concerns, he really did; Harry always thought, he had many qualities to become another Dark Lord like bad childhood with no one guiding him, determination to prove himself and most importantly, the talents and power to crash any one on his way.
But he did none of that; instead, he chose to forgive, forget and see the light… that is what made him who he is, a creature of fire, a creature of hope and nobility, a phoenix… and unlike his master, Harry knew for sure that he would not be able to become a Dark Lord; his phoenix nature just would not allow him.
And that made Harry question his master's solution to the problem; he was very scared at a request to friend someone. Putting his fear aside, he could not even understand why someone would need friends, he just could not get it; in his opinion, friends were a liability, not an asset. He always preferred being alone with a book to the company of other kids and teenagers.
It was only the faith and trust he had for his master that made him promise to himself to try, friending anyone at the first opening.
There was another thing that made Harry curious after the talk; the boy who turned into a monster, his master mentioned. Since he did not know his master to lie or make tales, Harry checked through thirteen graduating years his master met in school; he found only one interesting name, Tom Riddle.
Wondering if his master actually knew Voldemort as a student, Harry heard light steps walking towards him quickly. Rising a book to hide his face, he tried to focus on the text he should have been reading.
"Nice place you have, here, Harry; it was hard to find you." He heard a familiar voice say, offhandedly.
Sighing at being found, Harry carefully put his book on the table and saw his redheaded brother and his friends, Weasley and Granger, walking into his hideout while staring at him, warily.
"Good afternoon, Jeremy" Harry nodded in greeting as his brother put the old piece of parchment which looked a lot like the Marauder's Map from his much unexpected meeting with Weasley Twins in his second year.
"We need to talk, more privately." Jeremy said, motioning his head towards the opposite corner of the library where several, Ravenclaw girls looked at them with interest.
"I'm listening." Replied Harry as he put several simple privacy charms around the place.
"The First Task of the Tri-Wizard Tournament…" Jeremy looked between books just to check if the wards were working "Dragons."
"Dragons?" Harry asked, surprised. He expected something like that, however dragons were rare in the Europe and importing them cost quiet a lot which lead him to conclusion that whoever created this year's challenges definitely wanted to be flashy… otherwise he would have just bring some monticores, many of which stayed in the Magical Zoo of United Kingdom.
Misreading Harry's surprise as a shock, Jeremy repeated "Yes, Dragons; you, champions are to steal golden eggs from them. Dad told me there are four different species Russian Three-Horn, Egyptian Fire Vultures, Chinese Fireball and… was it Hungarian Horntail, Hermione?" Jeremy turned around to see his female friend nod.
Harry thought on the new information, slowly; bypassing a dragon was definitely a worthy challenge to his mind which already started creating many plans like simple fire apparition and heavy sleeping chants.
After looking at his brother's thoughtful expression for a several long, strained seconds, Jeremy stammered "Ah… Look, if you need any help… us… ah… What I mean is, if you want any help, you can always ask us." Jeremy finished and heard Ron hiding his laughter with a cough at the background. 'Very smooth, Jeremy' Jeremy thought to himself, fighting an urge to slap his forehead.
Upon hearing his twin, Harry's eyebrows disappeared behind his unruly hair. He was very sure that he did not need any help, but it was a great opportunity to make friends with his brother and his friends; so remembering his promise to himself, Harry tried to forget all the doubts, collected his Gryffindor courage and replied "Actually, why not? I promise to try to mend thing between us, right?"
"Great!" Jeremy smiled, brilliantly as he and his friends sat around and took their books out "Now… do you have any ideas?"
"Potter!" Shouted someone as Jeremy, Ron and Hermione walked to the Gryffindor Common Room from the Library. Looking down to where the loud voice came from, Jeremy saw an old auror with uncountable scars on his face looking at him. Seeing that he got the boy's attention, Mad-Eye shouted "Get yourself to my office in ten minutes, lad! I need to show you something."
Three friends looked at each other with light confusion for a several seconds, until Jeremy shrugged his shoulders and replied "Of course, Professor, I will be there in a minute."
"What do you think Professor Moody wants?" asked Ron, shivering, slightly as he felt the implanted eye stare at him, even after the defence teacher disappeared for in the in the hallway "I thought he cancelled your training while he is teaching?"
"I donno… but he never fusses over nothing, so I'm sure it is something important." Jeremy replied, simply, gesturing his hand at the one of the staircases which dropped to them "Well, I will see you guys, later."
"We will wait for you in the common room…" Hermione said, hugging him "…and be careful, ok? I have a bad feeling about these."
Jeremy gave short laugh, remembering many arguments they had, her scolding him for his utter trust into his 'gut feeling'. Realising the hug, Jeremy calmed his friend "It is going to be ok, Hermione, I will be with Professor Moody."
She nodded and ran up to Ron who took her hand, carefully and ordered the staircase to go to seventh floor.
Smiling at his friends' antics, Jeremy shook his head and made his way to the DaDa Professor's office. Making sloppy sounds as he walked through the flooded corridors, Jeremy returned back to thinking on his first confrontation with his brother after the champion's night.
It was better than he expected it to be… and only half as tense, but not the less… it was awkward.
Jeremy and Hermione spent most of their time, reading about dragons from the books they borrowed from Hagrid while trying to create something that would help Harry to avoid the fire breathing beast, long enough to steal the egg from the nest with Ron giving them a lot of useful information on how the previous champions dealt with their dragons.
Considering everything else, it was pretty simple.
To Jeremy, the hardest part was to explain the ideas to his brother without hiccupping and gulping with every word he said. For whatever reasons, Jeremy felt nervous and scared whenever he opened his mouth towards Harry's direction. It did not help that his not very talkative twin usually replied with simple 'yes's and 'no's to most of their plans, making conversations even more difficult than they already were.
The only help and support he had were his friends.
Though they have been very wary at first, after some simple tests they made up to check on his brother, Ron and Hermione changed their opinions and accepted his brother as 'not a bad guy',rather quickly. Later on, Ron even tried to make a joke or two to make his best friend loosen up while Hermione who was impressed with Harry's intelligence asked if they could study together later, insuring that they would meet, again, since they knew how important it was for Jeremy.
*FLASHBACK*
"Look here!" Jeremy shouted and took off the invisibility cloak his dad gave him, pointing at the large, silvery mirror which sparkled in the moonlight.
"Be quiet! You will wake up the whole school, Jeremy." Hermione shushed him, walking towards the mirror, sceptically "I can't believe you talked me into this…" She stopped, suddenly and gaped into the surface of the mirror.
"Would you look at that?" Ron said, pointing at his reflection, his face mirroring Hermione's.
"What do you, guys see?" Jeremy asked, looking at them with curiosity. He only knew about the mirror for several days while his friends were away on the Christmas Holiday and he had no idea what it showed or what it meant, he only knew that it had a strange aura which made him comeback and stare at it, every night.
"It is me… but I'm older!" Ron exclaimed, happily "Holding Quidditch Cup! And wearing the budge like Bill used to wear! Headboy Budge!" Ron turned to face Jeremy and asked "Do you think the mirror shows the future? Please tell me it shows the future!"
"It does not, Ron." Hermione calmed her friend, waking up from her dream. Slowly, she started, pushing her friends towards the exit "We better leave."
"But I want to look some more!" Ron shouted in protest, pushing his friend away, carefully "What is so bad you see in the mirror you want to leave?"
"It is not what I see, Ron. It is what these mirror shows." Hermione pointed at the strange carved wards written on the top of the silver frame "If you read it backwards it will say 'I show not your face, but your heart's desire'. The mirror shows what we want the most."
"And? Why do we have to leave?" Ron asked with slight irritation "I want to look some more."
"You just answered your own question, Ron. This mirror is a lot like a muggle drug, you will come here again and again, until you would want nothing, but stare at it… We better leave." Hermione pushed the redhead away from the mirror with a strength she did not know he had. "Jeremy. Jeremy, let's go." She waved her hand in front of her other friend who had a dreamy expression on his face "Jeremy!" She called him, again, shaking his shoulder.
"Ah!" Jeremy jerked his head as if he just woke up from a dream "I think you are right, Hermione. Something is wrong with the mirror…"
"Well, then, let's get out of here." The girl nudged two boys to make them move, before picking up the invisibility cloak from the ground "And please, be quiet. I think I heard Flitch just around the corner."
"Yes, Mum." Ron rolled his eyes, putting the cloak on three of them "You are the loudest of us when it comes to sneaking you know?"
"That does not change the fact that you and Jeremy have a tendency to scream when we are breaking the rules…" Hermione hissed, angrily "Jeremy, Let's go"
Jeremy sighed. Standing up slowly, he took the end of the soft fabric in his hands and covered himself in it. Walking to the exit, slowly and almost regretfully, Jeremy could not help, but look in the mirror, one last time.
Staring in the mirror for long five seconds which felt like eternity, Jeremy shook his head and whispered "Goodbye, Harry."
And then, he closed the door.
*FLASHBACK ENDS*
"Potter! Would are you doing standing here?!" Alastor Moody barked, loudly, quickly waking up Jeremy from his thinking. Listening to his student's excuses, he replied "I do not care! Follow me, lad. I have something important to show you."
Shaking his head in attempt to clear his mind, Jeremy followed his teacher trough the corridor. Suddenly, Moody stopped, checked their surrounds, warily and started pressing his wand against the wall. Confused Jeremy asked "Professor, what are you doing?"
"I can see a secret passage which leads outside the castle with my eye, behind that painting. Since I do not want to make any noise, blowing it up, I need to find the opening… Have any ideas, lad?" Alastor asked, turning around with a small smile on his scared face which looked much more like a scowl.
"Oh, it is here." Jeremy pointed at the opposite wall and pressed his wand against a bleached Hogwarts Logo. Looking over the fading image, Jeremy entered the passageway and lit the tip of his wand.
"Nice work, lad." Mad-Eye called from behind, his eyes staring right at the back of his head checking the entrance to the shortcut.
Jeremy smiled at the complement "It is nothing, sir. May I ask why are we going outside?"
"Did James write you a letter? About the First Task, I mean?" Old auror asked, walking right behind the boy, his wooden leg echoing back and forth, around the hall.
Jeremy stopped walking for a short second, surprised, before replying "Yes… and I already told Harry. What does it have to do with the First Task, though?"
"Dragons are not cheap and transferring them here cost quite a bit of coin." Mad-Eye started to explain "And Fudge… as bad as he is in strategizing battles, knows things about saving money and improving the economy. To save several thousand galleons which is quite a lot in ministry budgets, the minister decided to pay some more to the same Romanian Dragon Handlers to take care of the dragons, here as well. This… to put it simply… got our, British Zoo Keepers insulted and they did not let Fudge use their reservations to keep the beasts which in turn made Hagrid very happy…"
"Hang on!" Jeremy stopped in his track "You mean Dragons are here, in Hogwarts? And you will show them to me? But is it not dangerous? I mean, if anyone…"
"Albus put the wards, himself. It should be ok, lad." Moody scowl "But I agree, if any of the Death Eathers are to break them… Hogwarts will turn into crisps."
"Do you think the Death Eathers can pass through Hogwarts' wards, Professor?" Jeremy asked, shivering, slightly at the prospect of the mad beasts flying around and burning everything or people in black coats and masks killing his friends and family.
"It is not bloody likely, but it is possible. The escapees are not just any Death Eathers…" Moody shook his head, aggressively "During the first war, Voldemort's troops were usually grouped in sevens, a very strong magical number. Most of them were simple mercenaries or other low ranked followers whose goals were to create panic and fear, everywhere. However, one group was created for other purposes like assassinations of most powerful members of the Order of Phoenix."
"So… Three Lestranges, Mulciber, Dolohov, Crouch and Nott are his special group." Jeremy stated, making a mental note to ask Dad and Sirius about them, the first chance he got. "Did they ever attack you, Professor?
"On numerous occasions, actually… but as you can see, I'm still here" Mad-Eye roared with a sick smile, before roaring, loudly "BECAUSE I WAS CONSTANTLY VIGGILANT!"
Jeremy, who flinched, slightly as the auror shout, saw the dim light at the end of the tunnel. Walking outside, Jeremy admired a beautiful sunset and put his wand back into his pocket. Turning around to let the auror exit, Jeremy jerked his head toward the Forbidden Forest and asked "Dragons are in the forest, right?"
The elder man nodded, waving his hand for Jeremy to follow him. Following the mad auror through the grass field, Jeremy looked into the small window of Hagrid's hut where his big hearted friend took one of his famous rock cakes out of the oven. Making a note to thank the half giant for letting him borrow the books about dragons which were extremely helpful, Jeremy entered the Forbidden Forest, right behind his teacher.
They walked down the path for nearly twenty minutes when Jeremy saw a grey smoke and heard a hushed roar. Understanding that they are approaching the camp, Jeremy heard his professor ask "Lad, do you have your invisibility cloak with you?"
"No… but I can delusion, myself…"
"Not good, lad." Moody interrupted him with a loud whisper which showed how angry he was "You should have it with you at all times… it might just save your life, one day."
"Yes, sir." Jeremy gave him an understanding nod "I will carry it with me at all times from now on."
"Good. Now… You see that large tree on that hill?" Auror asked pointing towards a large oak tree with long roots which went deep into the ground "The protective runes start, there… and knowing you and Hagrid… just do not cross the damn tree, ok? You do not want us caught, right?"
"Easy" Jeremy answered and rushed towards the hill when suddenly, he felt something hit his back, paralyzing him, instantly. Losing the control of his legs and arms, Jeremy rolled down the hill and land on his back, painfully.
Feeling his right shoulder crack with pain, Jeremy moaned, lightly and cursed himself for losing his guard. Turning around to see his attacker, Jeremy saw a red light of 'stupefy' flying towards him, instead.
The last thing he heard was the mocking voice, saying "Constant Vigilance!"
"How can we trust him?" Sirius asked, pointing his finger towards a emotionless potion master. His statement was followed by many nods of agreement as he continued "Voldemort always worked through secrecy vows and blackmail. Many times, before, Snape used that excuse. What is different this time?"
"It is very different this time, Black…" Snape started to explain, his voice dripping venomous sarcasm "This time, it was not the Dark Lord, taking the vow, it was your cousin… and she is not the most observant person… she is a lot like you, in a way… very impatient, very easy to trick… I gave her the oath to help the Dark Lord's course and to do what they ask… She ate it and completely forgotten the secrecy vow… So I took the gamble with my life at the stake to get you the information… and you are telling me you do not trust me? You brain does not seem to work right in some places…"
"Sirius, Severus!" Dumbledore intercepted two men who were ready to pull their wands at each other "It is not the time to fight between each other. Let's not forget that Voldemort is out there, getting ready to comeback; we cannot waste time." Dumbledore took a very large book with a horrible illustration of bones and blood out of his pocket and put it on the table "Severus, Filius, Minerva, please look into this. The body renewal ritual should be on the page forty-four. I need you to find possible weaknesses which we can use to interrupt or slowdown the ritual. I will join you in a second… just let me set up the patrols around the school."
"'Blood Necromancy, The Forgotten Art: Tome Four'… With such book, it should not be too hard…" Replied a small half-goblin, reading through the ritual's descriptions "But why this ritual? I know of stronger and easier rituals then this one…"
"The ritual uses 'blood of a foe, forcibly taken', Filius." Dumbledore stated, quickly conjuring a small map of Hogwarts, akin to the marauders man, but without the moving people.
"Why would that… Oh!" Tiny professor nodded with understanding "So… Voldemort wants to kidnap one of the twins, not only to prove his power, but also to get a access to Potter Family Property and possible vaults… since the wards will recognize him us 'Potter'…"
"What!" James stood from his beloved chair "Albus, you never told me that he would be able to penetrate the wards! When we discussed the possibility of Voldemort kidnapping one of the twins after the Champion's Night, you only said that he would be able to get any natural abilities, they have… Why did not you tell me? I would have had time to move everything from the manor and lock it under Fidelius! And the Potter Vaults… if he would get any of the family artifacts in his hands…" James shivered "I got to get Gringotts."
"James, calm down!" Albus stopped one of his favorite students from running into Gringotts "You asked me to let you move to Hogwarts on several occasions… and this time, I need your help in patrolling the school… and Voldemort would not be able to access the vaults, since he is a criminal from goblins point of view. Remember, three years ago when he tried to steal the Philosopher Stone from one of the vaults? Goblins do not forgive this kind of thing."
"That does not make any difference!" James shouted "If there is even a small chance, I have to consider it… and right now, blocking all my vaults and manor is the best way to be safe… For now, we all will stay in Hogwarts, but as the summer holiday approaches, we will move to Sirius's place."
"I agree, completely, James." Albus said, quietly "And I'm sorry that I have disappointed you…"
"JAMES! JAMES! JAMES ARE YOU HERE?!" they heard a female cry, hysterically from the fireplace.
Quickly, all 'inner circle's members rushed up to a panicking woman. Pushing through everyone to the fireplace, James looked at his wife with strong concern and asked "Lily? What happened? Why are you shacking? Did someone attack you…"
"No, no, I'm ok." She replied in shaking voice "I just c-can-not find Jeremy! His friends said Alastor took him and he did not return… They checked the Marauders' Map. He is not in the castle, James! Centaurs and Hagrid checked the forest! H-h-he is not in Hogwarts… is he here with you?"
James lost his ground, his heart sinking down his throat.
A/N
Hello, my dear readers!
Well… this chapter was really hard and took a while to post.
I had many, many different plot lines which made me, create five different versions of this chapter, so I would know which one is the better. At the end, this was the best, even though I think it is not as good as I want it to be.
I'm also very sorry for the cliffhanger and will try to post the next chapter much faster.
