It wasn't big or dramatic. No pomp and circumstance, no soaring violins. It was soft and quiet under the stars and the twinkling lights outside Granny's. It was intimate and gentle, like nothing their relationship, or either of them for that matter, had ever been before. There was an innocence that neither of them realized they were capable of and a warmth that could melt even the harshest frost.
It had been coming on for a while. It took their adventure in the Enchanted Forest for her to realize. Not only had she realized that her parents and Storybrooke were her home, but he was too. And now, knowing that he had given up the Jolly Roger to get to her, the only home he had known for years, she knew that she was his home too.
What Neal had told her all those years ago about home being the thing that, when you're away from it, you truly miss it… they both felt the truth in those words. And as they kissed beneath the softly glowing lights, they knew… there really is no place like home.
