I should have been there
I'm sorry I haven't updated for a hella long time, besides losing my computer, I have no excuses. Then I started trying to write an EriSol chapter as an update and that has spiraled into its own universe and story but I'm not going to publish that till I'm completely done with it.

Vrisk slammed the door as he stumbled back into their shitty apartment, rust coming off the hinges. "Joooooooohn! Come on! I wanna play little loooooooove!" He cackled knocking things over in his haste to get to the bedroom. Where a sleepy long haired John greeted him, cleaning his glasses on a long night shirt.
"Vrisk is four in the morning, I have to get up in a few hours, what are you doing?" He mumbled before putting the square frames back into their place. "Are you drunk again? For fuck's sake Vrisk, we've talked about this bef-"
Vrisk cut him off with a brutal kiss. "I found out about you, Joan. The clinic left a message for you." The Scorpio hissed as he slammed the other up against the wall. "You're just confused John, and I'm gonna fix you." A rough hand was shoved into the transgirl's underpants.
She fought her former boyfriend and was backhanded so hard she saw stars. "Stop fighting, I'm the only one that loves you enough to fix you, John. You should really be thankful; I'm going to stop you from ruining yourself. No one can really love a tranny."
Joan tried to crawl away, only to be yanked back by her hips. "I'm going to fix you my little strawberry…" Vrisk purred rubbing his cock against her ass. Gathering her nerve, Joan turned around and socked Vrisk in the eye, followed by a kick to the groin and bolted out the door.
She didn't stop running till she reached Dave and Terezi's apartment down the street, not looking back. Rocks and hard pavement dug into the unprotected soles of her feet, adrenaline and fear making her run through the empty streets. Glancing over her shoulder the entire time.
"DAVE! REZI!" She screeched pounding on the door, hearing someone stumbling at the foot of the stairs two floors below. "Oh god, oh god, oh god…"
The door opened to a sleepy eyed Dave, and Joan threw herself in the apartment and slammed the door shut fumbling with locks.
"Joan, what the hell…?" He gently touched the giant bruise already forming on the side of her face, a scowl settling on his features. "Who did this?"
She launched into his arms and sobbed. "Vrisk tried to – to r-ra" She couldn't finish, but Dave just held her and soothed her hair.
"Dave, what's going on?" A sleepy Terezi joined them, in her boxers and tee shirt. "Joan, what happened?"
Dave clutched her tighter, before hissing at his girlfriend. "That asshole Serket tried to rape her."
The Libra's face was unreadable as the stood a moment before their door was being beat down once more.
"Coooome on Jooohn let me in! I know you're in there!" Then a deep sinister chuckle made her shudder in Dave's arms. "I still need to fix yooooooou!"
Terezi took Joan to their bedroom. "Stay here and keep the door locked till we come back." She handed over her cell phone. "Call Rose and Kanaya, have them come over. Dave and I will take care of Serket."
Blind fingers danced over the bed, picking out a blanket and wrapping it around the other's shoulders.
"It'll be ok Joan." She tapped a white noise maker on, thunder and rain filling the room, drowning out Serket's voice.
Then she was gone, and Joan's fingers shook as she fumbled with phone calling her best friends.
"Rose… please I need you and Kanaya here…. At Dave's….. Serket h-he- …. Ok, please hurry."
~ present day~
Karkat leaned back against the rail of the roof terrace, nursing a wine cooler with Rose.
"That fuckass just said she left Serket not any of this. I'm not a transphobic asshat. I thought we were on better terms than that."
Rose raised an elegant eyebrow.
"Nope, what the fuck have I said about that eyebrow before? Put that little shit back down or so help me."
She did, then raised her lips in a smirk. "Better?"
He scowled back.
"Back to the original topic. You are on better terms, but experience has taught her not to open up. She originally didn't want to move in with Serket so early on in the relationship, however she was left homeless. Her father is quite zealous to say the least, and had her excommunicated from her family and the church she didn't believe in. She kept saying 'I'm not a homosexual', which is quite true when you think about it. She was living as the wrong gender so homosexual wouldn't be correct."
She swirled the glass in a refined way, peering into the depths as if the held the answer.
"I suppose the best way to put it is that she's afraid of losing this new life that she's building. It took her a lot of time to rebuild and transition. She essentially had to start over on all fronts. What if this long lost love interest from a video game ruins it all? Relationships have never been kind to her."
He looked up into the stars. "I should have been there for her back then. I wish I had known so that she knew there was nothing wrong with her, just the people in her world then."
"You should tell her that then." She said smugly and he left without further prompting, passing Kanaya at the door.
"And where is he off to, Rose darling?"
"Why, Kanaya, to get Joan to swoon over his completely and utterly romantic nature!"
"Oh but of course, I should have guessed. I suppose you talked to him about Jake and Serket then?"
Rose's smug attitude dissipated with that, making her coil in on herself.
"I told of him about Serket, but I feel like Joan should tell him about Jake."
They cozied up together, the Virgo extending light blanket she had with her to her girlfriend.
"You can't blame yourself, you did all that you could."
She chuckled sadly in response. "Some night I just stay awake running through every possible scenario, but none of them seem to hold any answers. There must have been someth-" Her love took her face in her warm, kind hands, silencing her.
"We can never change yesterday, Rose, only today in hopes of tomorrow."
Nepeta put her whole body into her movements of the controller as they played Burn Out: Revenge. Cheering with every opponent smashed against the guardrails, sure it was an older game, but this was time for them to catch up.
Popsicle sticks, pop bottles and candy wrappers littered the floor around them as they laughed hysterically. Joan grabbed another sucker from the grocery bag in front of them, as they reminisced of classic SURB.
"OMG remember that healer that was so bad about fire…. What was her name?"
"oh god, it was just a slew of letters really, but yeah! That was the kicker, she would have been good if she had just moved better. Though, you should only have one healer in your memory, dearest Nipasu! MOI!"
Joan blew kisses all around as she won the race. Well damage meter, same difference! Nepeta pounced her and tickled her sides till she yielded.
"Mercy! Mercy! I yield!" She giggled loudly, squirming away before the hands retreated.
"Heheheehee! As the winner, I vote Overwatch next! I brought my laptop with me!"
Joan smiled, being around Nepeta, who just accepted you as you were unconditionally with love and kindness was just what she needed. The Leo really was just sunshine in their lives.
"Are you going to be Pharah?"
She gave Joan a predatory smile. "Oh you know it, are you down for some PharMacy?"
"PharMacy?"
"Oh my otp ship for this game, Pharah and Mercy! They're totes mcgoats made for each other!"
Joan made a show of groaning at her ships but dissolved into giggles. So happy that her life was becoming this safe, happy place. Nothing could ruin today.
After falling off the face of the earth, I hope you guys like this chapter. Now that I'm not in debate of how I want this to go I should hopefully have something up again soon -ish.
