A/N Guys, I don't really know what to say. We've reached the triple digits with follows for this story and I honestly don't think I'm doing such a great job. I mean come on I've posted 4, now 5, chapters in the span of over a year. Well it's nice to know someone thinks it's a half decent story at least. I'll try to do better, I promise. Well enough of my self deprecating rant… point is, thank you.

Ch 5

-_-_-_-_ 7 years ago -_-_-_-_

"If you look over there," Jemma pointed, "you can see scorpius"

"Where?" she spoke out confused.

"There!" as if it were the most obvious thing in the world "It resembles a fishing hook, sort of"

"Well then why isn't it just called a fish hook?"

Jemma outright laughed this time. "you just need to use a little imagination is all. I can't believe you couldn't see Ara"

She said nothing and a comfortable silence fell upon them once the Brit's laughter died down. They were laying on the grass watching the stars above on a calm July night.

"Hey Jemma?" She asked while keeping her eyes glued to the night sky. "You won't forget about me will you? Once... you leave, I mean"

She felt Jemma shuffling next to her and grab hold of her left hand, "Of course I won't forget about you, silly". She felt her body relax at the reassurance. "It'll be harder since you still don't have a name, but I'm sure we'll figure something out before I leave"

She laughed, "Good luck"

"Hmm... Lily!"

She scrunched up her nose "Ew, no. Are we thinking plants now?"

"What about Daisy?"

"Jemma, I'm not some delicate flower" flowers are pretty and everyone loves them she wanted to say. "Far from it" she said instead in a softer voice.

A different kind of silence settled around them.

"I know you won't see this one either, but" Jemma pressed herself to the girl's side and raised their linked hands to the sky "right over there is Hercules. Now Hercules was the greatest hero in Greece. Do you know why?" without really offering any room for an answer, Jemma continued,"He had these twelve labors, tasks, put in front of him that he had to complete. Capture the Cretan bull, slay Hydra, clean the king's stables-"

She let out a frustrated sigh, not really seeing the point of the story.

"Well the point is that these tasks were thought to be impossible. After Hercules completed them, after going through all this hardship and surviving," Jemma squeezed her hand "he was considered a hero. I don't think you're a delicate flower, far from it actually. I don't know what happens when you're away and I know we don't talk about it, but whatever it is you endure, it makes you a hero. My hero, at least."

"Please don't forget" she whispered trying, and failing, to keep her voice even.

"I think today will be the day I remember most vividly"

"What's so great about today?" she asked. Hoping to somehow lighten the mood, she added, "Besides, it'll be the Fourth of July in two days and that means tons and tons of fireworks. That will be a day to remember"

"Well my aunt is throwing a party then meaning we won't really be alone. This, right here, I like." Jemma snuggled closer, if at all possible, into her side "These are the moments I'll hold on to and miss the most"

She sighed contently "yeah, me too"

"Oh look, I think that's Draco over there. See how those two stars..."

She heard Jemma speak but stopped actually listening to all the confusing constellation stuff, trying to commit this moment to memory. She didn't mean to fall asleep but with Jemma by her side and the dark emotions no where to be felt, she couldn't help it.

The last thing she remembers from that night is thinking best day ever…

"Well I'll need to examine you once we get back to the BUS for possible injuries, but all you need to know is that you're in no danger. My name is Jemma Simmons and we work for SHIELD" she extended her hand and stared at Skye with seemingly no clue of their shared past.

Skye stared at her dumbfounded, unable to form a proper sentence. Jemma Simmons worked for the beast she was fighting to take down. Jemma Simmons apparently didn't remember her. Jemma Simmons was even more beautiful than she remembered. Jemma Simmons had forgotten her. What had she expected though? Sooner or later everyone forgot her.

"Skye?" Jemma asked nervously. "I know you don't like SHIELD but we did good today and it seemed like you were coming around..."

"Right. Sorry" She extended her hand and fought to keep her sadness hidden "Nice to meet you, Jemma"

Today sucks, she thought.
