"What?" I asked, totally blank. I was leaning on a hedge when Ian and Cody walked up. No one was around, though.

"This would be the 50th time I've asked you." Ian smirked. "Go out with me, you have no choice. I'm the headmaster's son." he frowned. "So say yes and kiss me." Cody laughed as he made kissy faces.

Jack walked out from behind the hedge, surprising Ian and Cody. "She, nor I, give a damn weather you're the headmaster's son or not. You're a bully, and a freak. You smoke, do drugs, and have way too many piercings." Jack scowled at Ian. Then pulled me up, off the ground where I was quietly reading a novel.

"Jack." Cody warned. "Give the damn girl back. She is 14, the perfect age for marriage."

"You know what?" I was surprised to hear myself say. "I don't give a damn about any of you. Nor marriage." I snapped.

"Fine." Ian scowled back at Jack. "If I can't have you." he pulled something out of his pocket. "Then no one can!" he screeched. Pulling out a revolver, then aiming it at my head. He pulled the trigger, but it flung past me as Jack pulled me behind the hedge. "He's crazy!" I whispered to Jack.

"He's crazy for you." Jack made a fake barfing noise and picked me up. He cratled me in his arms as he broke into a run. I heard two more shots fired. But I was safe with Jack, I knew his secret. I knew the minute I laid eyes on him. Black hair, blue eyes, no pimples. Perfect, simply perfect.

Then, Jack was hit, double blows to the head. "Shit!" I heard Cody say, then bolt. Jack flew back a few feet and landed, hard, on the concrete. Blood ran down his head as he got up. Then I shrieked as I, was hit with the last bullet of the revolver. Pain all over my leg. Jack slowly stood up, and cradled me in his arms. His head wounds had already started healing. But mine wasn't. He was immortal, I wasn't. Ian ran away as he suddenly sobered. Jack carried me to the infirmary. My leg was ok, didn't hit a muscle, or bone. But it wasn't a normal bullet. It causes excruciating pain when hit, or scratched. The bullet went into my leg but didn't hit anything bad.

Jack walked me back to my dorm where Katie was waiting. "OMG, are you ok!?" she asked me.

"She's fine, Katie." Jack smiled. Katie blushed then ran to her bed, muttering something about bandages. Jack faced me and gave me a cocky smile, which he saved preserved for only me to see. "See you tomorrow, lovely." he said, and kissed my forehead. Then closed the door. Katie was behind me in seconds.

"You guys would be a perfect couple." she smiled. I didn't say anything, just flopped onto my bed, and closed my eyes. "Goodnight, Katie." I whispered.

"Night." she said. Then turned out the light between our beds.

That night, I thought about Jack. When we were 12, he told me he was from a demon clan, he was the only one destined to be human-like.
