W-wh-wh-wh-WHAT?! IT'S FINISHED!? NO! Alright, here we go, y'all, the moment we've all been waiting for- Jerome and Mara are getting married! :D
Enjoy!
In Jerome's dressing room, the Clarke siblings paced and lounged and jumped around, waiting for the ceremony to begin. Alice and Louisa were ready, wearing their purple bridesmaids' dresses with their hair falling down their backs in soft ringlets. Gracie had worked so hard to keep her puffy purple dress clean, even though she had spent a majority of the morning surrounded by chocolate. Michael, Josh and Matty were all dress smartly, each looking just as fine in tuxedos as their father did.
Alice turned away from the wall and continued her pace to the other side of the room. Louisa sat in a chair, curling a strand of her hair around her finger. Josh was leaning against a wall, hands in his pants pockets, eyes closed. Michael sat on one of the sofas, heel bobbing off the floor as he shook his leg anxiously. Matty was standing on a chair in the middle of the room, watching the wedding rings like a hawk. All the while Gracie was fluttering around the room like a butterfly.
"Oh my, gosh, this is really going to happen; I think I'm going to cry." Alice gushed, covering her face with her hands.
"We're finally going to have a mummy!" Gracie cheered.
Josh grabbed her around the waist and lifted her over his shoulder. "You really are a monkey, aren't you?"
She giggled, raising her arms above her head. "Yeah!"
"I can't wait to call Mara 'mum'. Oh my, gosh, Al, I know how you feel." Louisa sighed, taking her sister's hand.
Michael ran a hand through his hair, throwing an arm over Matty's shoulders. "You excited Matt?"
He nodded eagerly, slipping his arm as far around Michael as he could. "We're f-finally going t-to b-be-be a whole f-family."
Josh settled Gracie on his hip and he took a second to feel the weight of the situation on his shoulders. It was amazing.
Alice and Louisa moved closer to Michael and Matty, and Josh and Gracie joined them a second later. They all came together in a group hug.
Finally, they all thought at once.
Jerome poked his head into the room and hissed to Mara, "Is Amber in here?"
She turned to him, wedding dress spinning after her slowly on the tiled floor. "No, why—"
"I'm breaking the rule—don't see the bride in the wedding dress before the wedding—Amber would kill me if she knew I was in here." He rolled his blue eyes and closed the door behind him, crossing the room so he could hold her waist in his hands and kiss her quickly. "You look perfect, Jaffray."
"You look pretty dashing yourself, Clarke." she smiled up at him.
"Well, you know," he shrugged with a cheeky smile. "Alright, Jaffray, you ready to do this?"
"Even if the world was ending I'd still be marrying you." She said lovingly.
"Same here, we've waited too long." He wrapped his long arms around her and hugged her close to him. "Alright, I'll see you out there, and Jaffray?"
"Yes?"
He stroked a finger down her jawline. "Last time I'll call you Jaffray: Jaffray, I love you."
She laughed lightly, taking his face in her hands. "I love you too."
He kissed her softly and then pulled away quickly, rushing for the door. "I need to go before Amber finds me and the world really does end. See you in a few minutes, love."
"…through marriage, Jerome and Mara make a commitment together to face their disappointments, embrace their dreams, realize their hopes, and accept each other's failures. Jerome and Mara will promise one another to aspire to these ideals throughout their lives together, through mutual understanding, openness, and sensitivity to each other…" The vicar spoke to the church once Jerome and Mara were standing before each other on the stage.
Gracie bounced happily on her heels, nearly bursting with excitement beside Louisa.
Louisa was keeping a tight grip on Gracie's hand while meeting Alice's anxious gaze every few words.
Michael, Josh, and Matty were standing across from them beside Alfie, meeting their sisters' eyes every once in a while to exchange content smiles.
Their friends and close family filled the pews like they had planned; no one extra that they had to bother to remember the names of; no one they'd have to introduce to the kids and expect them to remember them as well. The church was quiet as the minister continued the ceremony, save for the occasional sniffles from a few choice women, particularly Amber, Joy, Fiona, and Poppy.
"…this relationship stands for love, loyalty, honesty and trust, but most of all for friendship. Before they knew love, they were friends, and it was from this seed of friendship that is their destiny. Do not think that you can direct the course of love – for love, if it finds you worthy, shall direct you…"
Jerome smiled softly, squeezing Mara's hand, and she winked at him in return, pressing her lips together in anticipation. Neither of them felt guilty wishing that the ceremony was almost over.
The old man looked to Jerome, "Do you Jerome take Mara to be your wife; to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually bestow upon her your heart's deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto her as long as you both shall live?"
Jerome didn't miss a beat, "I will."
"Do you Mara take Jerome to be your husband; to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in health, for richer, for poorer, for better, for worse, in sadness and in joy, to cherish and continually bestow upon him your heart's deepest devotion, forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto him as long as you both shall live?"
Mara couldn't help ducking her head and taking a deep breath, attempting to keep control over the emotion bubbling in her chest, before looking back up at Jerome. "I will." She whispered, releasing a shaking breath with a smile.
When the priest asked for the rings, Matty rushed for him, but Josh grabbed him with a laugh, handing his father the rings.
And the rest of the ceremony was a blur as the priest finished his seemingly never-ending rehearsed speech, and then he told Jerome that he could kiss the bride: not a second was spared as Jerome took her face in his hands and brought his lips down upon hers while her fingers curled into his tuxedo collar.
The Clarke siblings shared identical looks, once again thinking the same thing as Jerome and Mara whispered to each other, "Finally."
