Again with the strange timing, this time the chapter is uploaded exactly on July 4th ^^'
((Edit: July 5th 00:02 / 12:02 AM for me at least. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU))
Mott indeed had it coming. That jerk.
Well, how does it feel? Getting Mitsuhide vibes from two characters at once, that is... hehehe.
Next chapter will be the Familiar Exhibition event...
'Is that so?'
Also as far as I can see, Nobunaga will NOT kill the princess in this opportunity. Something else will happen though.
Reviews for the previous chapter:
'I smell another musou finish at someone's ass' - I smell it too, but it's going to be next chapter. If I can get my ass moving to do it that is..! DX
Under the two moons of Halkeginia, in the Tristain Academy of Magic, there was a man; A man who came from the age of chaos. That man... Oda Nobunaga... was an absolutely unforgiving man, who found himself his first real target, who happened to mess with him... the Mott Estate. The battle was about to begin. "Remind me what we're doing here in this romantic night...?" Said Guiche. Nobunaga brought with him all of his recruited men, which included Guiche, and the four male students who happened to oppose him. They were all then riding their horses towards the estate... mansion... enemy castle, whatever you might call it (although the last one is what Nobunaga would call it) .
"It depends... what do YOU desire...? In the world I came from, everyone had a reason of their own to fight." Nobunaga answered. That answer didn't explain anything at all, as the five horsemen of Nobunaga all looked at each other, confused. "We're asking you why YOU initiated this, not why we agreed to this." One of the four other than Guiche said, clarifying the question to Nobunaga. "If you need a reason, then I'll tell you... It's a kind of a hostage rescue operation." Nobunaga chuckled. He technically didn't lie in any way, it was indeed a hostage rescue operation, Nobunaga just didn't state the exact reason why he brought all of them with him.
"Hostage rescue...? Who is it that you're talking about...?" Guiche said in his usual tone of speech. "If it's someone Nobunaga would go to such lengths taking us all with him just to take back, that person must be at least of some importance..." Said one of the four. "Should I give you a little bit of a quick explanation on how to properly do war then? Even though peace is apparently present at these times, there is no guarantee that it will be this way for long." Said Nobunaga. Nobunaga's retainers thought for a couple of seconds, before reaching a conclusion to agree.
They were surprised that he was actually sending them together with him to do something like 'war'. In their perspective about the term 'war', it was a huge scale battle between countries, with tons of politics involved. Anything other than that, was nothing more than a trifle in their eyes. That, is where they were wrong, and Nobunaga knew to foresee this - those who didn't properly see 'war', would never understand its true meaning, unless it's experienced first hand. "First, you got to keep your formation. For example, Guiche, when you place your so called bronze valkyries, -how- exactly do you place them, so they have more chance of beating the opponent instead of getting beat themselves...?" Nobunaga asked Guiche, in an attempt to explain more about formations. "Why, I'd place them with their weapons pointed at my opponent, of course!" Said Guiche, looking a bit proud in himself... except he failed to understand what Nobunaga was trying to teach him. The other four did understand though.
"We will now do a little war council for this upcoming battle. Since we don't have enough forces or food ready to do a proper siege, we'll have to capture it by force. The enemy castle will probably have guards around it, and since we're only 6 people, we will have to be extra careful that we don't take any losses. For that reason, we will use the ring formation for this battle, which is a defensive formation in nature. If you'd look at that formation from the bird's eye, it looks like the pentagon you so like, except with the top point being a bit closer to the center." Nobunaga explained. "Do not get me wrong, I don't want you to be idle in this fight. Once we get in the guards' sight, I do expect you to attack. However, I don't want you to chase after fleeing enemies, because that would break our formation, and split us apart; I don't need any heroes of that kind. As I said, I want total victory, without any losses on our side!" Declared Nobunaga.
The others were quite impressed by Nobunaga's words, seeing his words were as if his intellect alone was enough to win even what -they- defined as 'war'. Nobunaga didn't know how right he was when he said that there would probably be guards around the 'enemy castle'. He just said it because he thought that around every castle which respects itself there should be at least some guards, and count mott didn't seem to be the type of man who would take risks with his own security. Just before they actually got to the Mott Estate, they arranged themselves to fit the 'ring formation' Nobunaga told them about, Nobunaga himself being in the middle of the ring. If it was an army using that formation, it would truely look like a ring with all the soldiers around the officers. Honestly, Nobunaga would use the half moon formation instead of the ring formation for that battle, but it was a tough formation to keep, unless they all were soldiers trained especially for war, and those kids clearly weren't of that type.
When they reached their destination, tieing their horses somewhere nearby, they clearly saw the guards patroling around the mansion. Some of them had some sort of beasts which surprised Nobunaga way more than the 'officers' on his side - they looked like black dogs with red eyes, but they also had wings on their backs. ... 'Youkai of some sort, but if humans managed to tame them, they aren't nearly as powerful as they would be if they were in the wild.', Nobunaga thought to himself. "We'll attack here. If anyone knows how to exploit the weakness of those beasts, you better do it. Charge!" Said Nobunaga, ordering everyone to charge towards the enemy castle, drawing his sword and pointing it towards their destination.
"Who goes there?!-Ugh!" One of the guards tried to shout, succeeding to alert the other guards in the area, although that one guard was soon hit by a fire ball spell, dropping on the ground. "Do not worry! Be swift like the wind, and the enemy won't have a chance!" Nobunaga boosted the morale of his soldiers, including Guiche, who by that time had some of his so called bronze valkyries materialized from his rose wand. ' I can see that you still don't trust yourself in any -serious- matter, Guiche... That pile of metal doesn't add anything to the formation, they are only a burden, worthless added weight. If you really do count on your magic instead of your constructs, you should be attacking directly with magic, not magically-indirect ordinary physical damage...' Nobunaga thought, looking at what Guiche done for a moment, advancing with his formation towards the enemy castle.
Not too long afterwards, an unexpected report made its way towards Count Mott, who was then in his personal room in the mansion. "Sir! There is an unknown force attacking! The guards and their beasts are falling one after another!" The guard delivered the message, Count Mott visibly surprised. "W-What? Who are they, those barbarians?" He said, his voice tone being louder than usual. "The force consists of six people, five aristocrats and a swordsman!" The guard reported. Count Mott was successfuly angered. Although somewhere in his thoughts was the slight confusion about that one swordsman. 'A swordsman...? Why would five aristocrats, nobles, magic users, would bring with them just one swordsman...?' He thought about it for a few moments, leaving that thought alone since that time was no time for hesitating against the offenders. "Fine! I'll show them how fierce I can be on my own!" Said Count Mott after some more quick thinking, taking his wand with him as he left his room.
After disposing of all the guards around the mansion, Nobunaga was surprised by how easy it was opening the 'gates' to the enemy castle. It was as if those weren't reinforced at all, unlike what he was used to in his old world. Not that he wasn't satisfied with the fact that he just kicked the gates and they were immediately slammed open without any need to use anything flashy on them. Right after getting into the lobby, Nobunaga and the group saw a familiar man going down the stairs. It was the 'enemy commander' for that battle, Count Mott himself. "Y-You're...! Oda Nobunaga!" Said Count Mott as soon as he saw Oda Nobunaga and his group, surprised to see the black swordsman, although that settled some of his thoughts about that mysterious swordsman brought along with five mages. "I'm honored that you remember my name. Indeed, my name is Oda Nobunaga." Was Nobunaga's response, as mysterious as ever, although it also as if he was belittling Count Mott altogether.
"Don't think you're getting away with it so easily, you fool! Just what is the reason for this foolishness?" Shouted Count Mott in response, readying his wand. Nobunaga only laughed in response, and laughed out loudly at that. The reason for that was, that it was the first time in a very long time that Nobunaga found himself being called a fool. Before he caught the nickname of 'The Sixth Heaven Demon King', in his early days as a ruler, he was called 'The Fool of Owari', Owari being the name of the fief he was ruling. That sure brought back memories for Nobunaga... although he didn't like being called a fool in the slightest. "Why, my business here is quite simple. I'm here for a maid named Siesta; I'm quite sure you remember her, now don't you? I want her to return to the academy where I'm staying." Nobunaga stated his business clearly for the first time, confusing all of his 'retainers' at the same time, all of them thinking of the same thing - 'a maid...?' .
"HA! You not only look the fool, you really ARE one! A big one at that! I didn't hire Siesta just for her to be my maid. She's my personal mistress! Also, surely, you know the consequences of that drawn sword of yours, don't you?" Shouted Mott, again calling Nobunaga a fool, that time somewhat affecting Nobunaga's 'allies' as well, who followed Nobunaga into attacking the Mott Estate, all for a maid to return to the academy. "I simply do not understand what you mean by 'consequence'. Enlighten me on that one." Said Nobunaga, his tone being serious, although again, his words alone were a slight hint that he was belittling his opponent.
"It seems that you still don't fully recognize who you're talking to." Said Count Mott, barely able to keep his cool, even though he was trying. "That means that I can EXECUTE YOU ON THE SPOT! NOW YOU DIE!" Exclaimed Mott, intending to extract water from a nearby vase, in order to use that water to attack Nobunaga, the attack method being a water dragon. "Watch out!" Shouted Guiche, trying to warn Nobunaga of the upcoming assault from a triange class mage, although his warning was pointless. The next thing Nobunaga's 'retainers' saw, was Nobunaga running towards Mott, slicing Mott's wand in half. "Is that so...?" Said Nobunaga, not being... 'dead', in the slightest. "S-So this is how you got rid of those bandits...!" Said the shocked Count Mott, moving a few steps back from Nobunaga, still holding the remains of his wand, as if he could somehow defend with it.
"Actually, you provided me with even less than a challenge than them. Now, what should I do with you, now that you chose to resist me...?" Wondered Nobunaga. "Don't think you'll get away with this...!" Said Mott, troubling Nobunaga. According to Nobunaga's plan, making any bold moves like that so early would be a bad idea, as that would ruin his image and only get him more enemies than allies. If Count Mott would simply have admitted defeat instead of attacking, and then saying what he did, that would have went much in Nobunaga's favor. However, if Mott wasn't going to keep any secrets about that incident, there was no other apparent way. Oda Nobunaga has killed for less of a reason.
Nobunaga turned halfway towards Guiche, and asked him a rather simple, but also unexpected question... "What would you do with a bird that doesn't sing...?" . "W-What would I do...? I would try to... convince it, to sing! W-What is that question for, now of all times...?" Guiche somehow answered, throwing the answer he made up himself on the spot, Nobunaga chuckling at his idea. "How fitting, Guiche. But somehow you just can't convince a bird to sing. What I would do..." Said Nobunaga, turning towards Count Mott once again, readying the grip on his sword, taking a few steps towards Mott. "...is KILL IT." Said Nobunaga, at the same time slashing Count Mott diagonally from the top right to the bottom left, giving the aristocrat a mortal wound, essentially killing him. "It's JUST. THAT. SIMPLE." Said Nobunaga with a serious facial expression, as if he was teaching something, looking at his 'retainers' as the blood went out of the now-corpse.
About two and a half seconds later, an ear-deafening woman scream was heard across the estate. Nobunaga turned to see who it was, only to see Siesta, the very same maid he was trying to 'rescue' in that whole incident, on her knees, supposedly seeing proper blood and a proper corpse for the first time in her life. The rest of Nobunaga's allies in that battle too, suddenly felt horrible with what was done, as if their stomachs were turning upside down. Nobunaga was the only one who didn't feel a thing about killing another human being. That was either another proof that he was actually a demon king, that he was so heartless that it didn't affect him anyway, or that he already killed a lot of people, except those bandits. The later was actually true, but it wasn't that obvious to anyone else in that scene. And it was all Nobunaga's fault, and that he couldn't deny, even if he tried to conceal the incident.
"Ah, why it isn't Siesta? You're free to go back to the academy. Now that Mott is dead, the headmaster would most likely welcome you back. No one will take away your free will, aristocrat or not. In love, or otherwise." Said Nobunaga to the fallen Siesta, swinging his blade once more, to wipe out most of the blood which was on the blade until then. It was then, that Nobunaga received an unexpected response from the maid he just 'saved'. "You didn't have to take his life! For whatever reason, killing him is just too cruel!" Shouted Siesta, running away from Nobunaga, possibly to her own room, to pack her stuff and prepare to do what Nobunaga said anyway, but her response did have an effect on Nobunaga. While he didn't show any signs of that except waiting for a few more seconds before continuing, those words did affect him at least a bit, when Nobunaga added what Louise told him about 'cruelty' or not.
'I do not understand in the slightest why does she even feel sad. Count Mott, in addition to being aristocrat, or noble as they call it, Count Mott was not someone important to her life in the slightest, the opposite is true - that man tried to take her away from the academy of magic by force, and force her to be his personal mistress. If anything, she should be thanking me. Could it be, that the sole fact that I killed a human being is troublesome for her...?' Were Nobunaga's thoughts. Setting them aside for that time, the group of six left what was once the 'enemy castle'.
When Nobunaga mounted on his horse, Nobunaga looked back to where he came from moments before, surprisingly finding Siesta already in the distance, walking towards him. He was unable to see her facial expression, especially after all that he's done to the outside of the mansion... killing all the guards and their warbeasts as if they were all just a nuisance... and the bodies of course didn't disappear anywhere. Nobunaga didn't say anything, even when Siesta reached him. All he did was offer her his hand, looking straight to her eyes, then seeing that she was uncertain whether or not to accept his offer - as while Nobunaga was technically her 'savior', he was also a ruthless murderer. After a few moments though, she did take his hand, the group of then seven people leaving towards the academy.
A few minutes after they parted from the then 'haunted' mansion with a thousand corpses (not actually a thousand per number, but 'a lot' could be said) , suddenly another horse could be heard from the distance, together with a familiar voice. "Nobunagaaa!" The voice called, Nobunaga ordering everyone to halt their advance, recognizing the voice all too well, as it was his own 'master', Louise. "Just what in the world were you doing in the Mott Estate? I got here as soon as I heard that you were heading there, but I do deserve an explanation for this...!" Said Louise. At that point, Seista wished she was invisible just not to be seen by Louise like this.
"Is that so...? Regardless of what reason I had coming there, I arrived too late. I don't know who did this, but Mott most of his servants, if not all of them, were already dead when we arrived. The only one I found alive was Siesta, as you can probably see." Nobunaga lied with a perfectly straight face. And it was a big lie indeed. For anyone else except Louise and Nobunaga himself, it was an unbelievable scene, most of them thinking 'How could he keep his cool when lying like that?!' or 'How could he construct such a lie in such a short time to begin with?!'... or both, among their other thoughts. Siesta received the biggest impact of them all, her impression of Nobunaga changing more and more to the negative side, not believing how cruel could he possibly be, yet he was proving to go lower and lower every time. Nobunaga called it 'Realism', however for Siesta all she could see in him was just 'Cruelty'.
Louise looked at Nobunaga suspiciously for a few moments before sighing. "... Fine... Anyway, we're returning to the academy. The headmaster will probably do something about it." Louise gave up on that one that time, any more thinking would just make her more confused. "Sorry I had to bring you all for 'nothing'. Next time I will make sure I actually need you." Said Nobunaga when they all reached the academy, sticking with the alternate false reality he made for himself. 'No matter what they say, the world's ways are always cruel. For that, I will fight fire, with fire.' Thought Nobunaga, wanting to say those exact lines to Siesta, but the maid was no longer there, as she probably went to the headmaster's room to 'check in' once again.
"You know, Nobunaga, there's supposed to be a Familiar Exhibition event, I completely forgot about it with all the things that happened to us up until now. And it's supposed to be in three days from now, so we don't have any spare time..." Said Louise, sitting on her bed in her room still wearing her uniform, Nobunaga sitting on one of the chairs nearby. "Is that so...?" Responded Nobunaga, not quite caring about that event, as it would only serve as a stage for him to show his power to the academy's staff or so he thought, and he was 99% sure that everyone has already heard of him in one way or another. "... and this year they say that the princess herself is going to be attending, what terrible luck...!" Louise continued, that particular statement being the only thing to actually peak Nobunaga's interest. He didn't repeat his catchphrase though.
"I'll be fine with my sword. Of course, some of my skills are greatly destructive, so I won't use them during that event." Said Nobunaga, just to inform his 'master' about the points she needed to know about, but ending up scaring her a bit. She wondered what other destructive skills he had, except what he... ALMOST, showed her, and his strength that he proved to her when he was training her on the 'way of the sword'. "W-Well, you might be right about that... although I don't recall seeing your sword skills ever in action, except the time you fought with Guiche and that tiny bit when you sliced some students' wands..." Said Louise, recalling everything she remembered about any of Nobunaga's 'skills' he exhibited... except that one time when she turned around just before he killed those bandits.
At night time, Nobunaga didn't go to sleep as early as the students. Instead, he went out of the dorm towers, thinking about the recent events going around him... not that going to sleep early was the norma for him. Instead of doing a night walk, ensuring everyone was 'safe'... including Siesta, he decided to do his own practice with his sword. He wasn't that kind of perfect that without practice he could keep his skills intact... it was just that in his old world there were lots of wars, is all. Nobunaga drew his sword, the rune marks on his left hand glowing, slashing at the air every so often. 'That's my first gamble in this world... I wish that Siesta and the rest could keep secrets as well as they do in their jobs, or sorcery for that matter.' Were Nobunaga's thoughts, before he decided to clear his head of thoughts for the next few sword strikes.
"So you say almost everyone in the Mott Estate were killed by someone, including Mott himself?! Killing a triangle-class mage, who could possibly do something like this...!" Said the headmaster, not believing what had reached his ears. Normally, it was believed that any physical attack was inferior to magic, and in turn, that plebeians could never win against mage aristocrats, let alone the second only to the square class - triangle class mages. Siesta lowered her head, knowing exactly who was the culprit... and the headmaster noticed that. "Siesta, if you know who did this, please do tell me. I might be a mage, but I'm not trying to be your enemy, I want you to understand that." Said the headmaster, having no clue himself that it was again Nobunaga's fault.
The thing he did notice though, was that Siesta was uncomfortable in telling him the culprit's name for then, for whatever reason. "In any way, since Count Mott is no longer among us, I'll do what I can, and allow that you'll be one of the maid staff in the academy again." Said the headmaster. "T-Thank you, Old Osmond..." Responded Siesta, her voice tone being a bit more quiet than usual. "Now then, you must be tired, you should go sleep for tonight. However, I do want you to report what you know to me sometime soon." Said Osmond, concluding the meeting. 'Even if he killed so many people, he did do all that, risking his life to save me... maybe I was too quick to judge him.' Siesta thought to herself as she headed towards her room, choosing not to say whose fault it really was at the end.
