When Jaime was released from the rest home, Cassie was waiting right outside to help him with luggage, give him a hug and a kiss (plus a promise of sex later), before they're getting in the car.
He almost immediately regrets when he asks "what did I miss?", because he gets a half hour spiel about anything possible gossiping about.
"Jason and Vivian got engaged last week- her ring is the prettiest in the world. It's a silver band, and emerald cut-"
"Mhmm," He mumbled, eyes drifting closed. He really didn't care about the ring Vivian had. After Cassie finished the description of the ring, she pinched him.
"Demon met a lady cat," Cassie said.
Jaime blinked. "Really?"
"Yeah, me and Zatanna held a little cat wedding for them. We took pictures."
She handed him her phone, and he scrolled through the pictures of Demon wearing a white bowtie. A orange cat was wearing a pink viel. He scrolled one too far, and was staring at a picture of someone he thought was Megan, except she had such a bad tan she almost looked... green.
"Uh?" He asked, flashing the picture to Cassie. She snorted.
"Yeah, she tried to spray tan except she fell asleep with it still on."
"Poor girl," Jaime said solemnly, before handing Cassie back her phone. "Anything else?"
"Ready for it?"
"Sure," He said. He doubted anything could surprise him.
"Tim and Bart finally did the nasty. Tim gave me a full play-by-play afterwards but I'll save you the gross details."
"I thought they already had sex?" He asked. His head was throbbing. Maybe not.
"No, they were dating and sleeping in the same room before you left," She explained. "Bart'd wear Tim's shirts sometimes."
Jaime nodded. "Makes sense."
"Oh! And Bruce was fucking this guy who was like a clown. He threatened to kill Jason."
"Bruce dumped him right?"
Cassie shrugged, pulling into a spot in front of his apartment. "We kinda all stopped talking to him."
"Oh." He got out, pulling his stuff out of the car.
Cassie was practically bouncing with excitement. "C'mon, I've got a surprise for you!"
Aside from seeing a new cat in his house he wasn't really sure what the surprise was. He knew Cassie checked in on the place every day after class, so every surface was clean instead of dusty. "Okay, I give up."
"I moved in!" She squealed. "Me and my mom got in a fight and I figured I already had to take care of Demon and Angel, plus you'd be home soon and trying to balance when I could come over would be too hectic and getting my own apartment seemed pointless-" She jabbered on, trailing on about the price of apartments.
"Cass, you're fine, don't worry," He said, kissing her forehead. She beamed. "So..."
"Yeah?" She asked.
"Can we do that thing we were talking about?" He asked, and to make it not sound too rude, he quickly added: "I'll give you head."
She giggled, covering her mouth with her hand. "I missed you."
"I missed you too," He said. He cupped her face to kiss her. "It was really lonely."
"But you got better," She said, hugging him. "And that's what matters."
"Yup."
The road ahead wouldn't be easy, of course it wouldn't be. But it was easy to fall into each other, to kiss and touch and get lost in the simplicity of sex. And Jaime couldn't help but think that as long as he had her - had this - he could do it.
