"So you want to be soldiers, huh?" Lieutenant Mark Reynolds asked the group of people around him. Most had just come on the sixteenth pilgrimage, though there were a few familiar faces. Commander Taylor had promoted Mark to a lieutenant. \Everyone knew of Mark, and looked up to him. Mark was training the new privates for the first time; he usually let Riley do that. He was trying the 'bad cop' act to scare the soldiers into respecting him. So far, he thought it was working, based on the looks of terror he was getting from the new recruits. He was walking up and down the line of soldiers, giving the death glare that Jim Shannon no longer used since he married Maddy.

"It takes responsibility. You have to be ready for anything. Are you willing to risk your life for the good of the colony? Will you do anything to ensure the safety of the colonist? Can you put everyone else's lives before your own? Well if you can't, leave now." Mark half yelled, still pulling the 'bad cop' act. No one left, so that was a good sign. He was about to keep lecturing them, but was interrupted by something jumping on his leg. He looked down to see his three-year-old daughter, Macey.

"Daddy! I missed you!" Macey shouted. Mark laughed, totally forgetting the soldiers watching him, and grabbed Macey, holding her in his arms.

"I saw you this morning, Mace." He said using his nickname for her. She giggled and hugged him. Mark then noticed that she was unaccompanied.

"Macey, where's Mommy?" Mark asked, wondering where his wife was.

"Silly Daddy! Aunt Zoe was watching me because Mommy was working. Aunt Zoe dropped me off at the science building, but Meanie Malcolm said Mommy was in the lab saving lives. He used a lot of words I don't know." Macey said while pouting. She always looked adorable. An exact copy of Maddy with Mark's eyes is what people said, and it was true.

"Well, I guess your mom found a cure for the bad virus. How about this, I'll call Aunt Skye and have her play with you until I come home?" Mark wagered. Macey nodded, excited by the idea of playing with Skye and Josh's baby boy, James. As Mark was about to radio Skye, Maddy came rushing towards the field they were practicing in.

"Mommy!" Macey said as she ran into her mother's arms. Mark smiled at the sight of his two favorite girls.

"Hey, Babe. Sorry, I just got out of the lab. I finally figured out why the molecules of the antidote were not combining. Turns out there were too many Carbon Dioxide molecules and not enough Hydrogen molecules. Anyway, Malcolm told Macey came by, so I figured she was with you. " Maddy said in one breath. After knowing Maddy for eight years, and being married to her for four of those years, it still surprised him how much she can say at once.

"It's okay, Mads. Can you take her home?" Mark asked.

"Of course, and Malcolm gave me the next two days off for working so hard. C'mon Macey." Maddy said. Macey gave her father's leg one more hug, then grabbed her mom's hand, ready to go. After a quick kiss to her husband, Maddy took Macey home. Mark turned around, noticing the soldiers smiling.

"Well, so much for the scary act. I may not actually be mean, but I meant every word I said. If anything happened to my family… well, nothing will. And do you want to know why? Because there are soldiers, including myself, ready to put their lives before the their own. And if you want to be those soldiers, then we've got to start training. Do fifty laps around the field. Go!" Mark told the soldiers. Though he would always be the frightening CO to the soldiers, they now knew he was a good man.
