Chapter 5

Khan walked out on the balcony one morning and sighed contently at the sounds of life coming from the city's agora filled with his own people and traders from the mainland Khan was pleased at what he had managed to do in just six months. Although it had taken longer than he would have liked he wanted to be sure his people could survive without him if something went wrong on his rescue mission for his husband. Leaving the balcony after taking one more look at the pale lilac green sky of the early morning Khan changed his clothes and made his way to his office that looked and felt more like a vast library and throne room combined into the perfect office. Taking his seat at the head of a long table in the middle of the room he smirked at the room even after six months he still loved the sight of ancient style décor with technology woven into the walls and lifestyle.

After a while the council members began showing up and taking their seats. Once they had all arrived Khan stood up from his seat. "Welcome, thank you all for coming this morning I know it's early but in a little while I will be leaving to return to Earth for the personal business we discussed at the last meeting. While I am gone you my council of specialists will be in control, I have the utmost faith in you four," Khan said as he walked around the table. "I've put off going back for James as long as I can manage, I'm going to need the medical staff on standby judging by my math James has one more month of pregnancy but he could go into labor early I want the clinic ready for us in case we need them," he added as he sat back down while notes were being taken.

Dox looked up from his pad he was taking notes on. "We will be ready in case anything comes up sir you have nothing to worry about, the city is in good hands and it will run smoothly while you are gone," he said looking at the others for a moment as they nodded. Khan smiled and gave a small nod before ending the official meeting before offering his friends breakfast before he left. Once they were done Khan went back to the master bedroom and changed into Earth clothes before leaving his home and heading for the shuttle to head back to Earth and bring his husband home.

Taking off from the surface of the planet Khan sighed as he got comfortable for the long journey back to Earth and programed the auto pilot for the outskirts of the city. Punching in the code for the auto pilot Khan sat back and closed his eyes to rest as the shuttle flew him back to his love. I just hope James can forgive me for not being there for him over the last six months but once he sees me he'll understand when I tell him everything that has happened he'll understand that… and understand that everything I've done has been for him… Khan thought as he thought back to the first time he met his husband on the Klingon home world.

"I've been in love with him since that day I met him," Khan said to himself with a smirk at the memory of their meeting. Crossing his legs and reclining back Khan watched the stars fly by him in warp. Ten hours of this travel it will not be easy to sit in silence for this many hours of course. He thought quietly as he thought back to his way of thinking before falling in love with the only lower life form he ever respected.

As the trip came to an end Khan opened his eyes and looked at the screen with a smirk as the auto pilot announced that the landing sequence just outside the city limits just within a clearing to keep the shuttle from being seen. Disembarking from the shuttle Khan looked around and found it was night with the fringes of light in the western sky. Heading into the city as the sun gave the city a rosy glow Khan kept to the less crowded streets as he made his way toward the Starfleet apartment blocks. Walking down an empty sidewalk Khan kept his head down until he reached the apartment block.

"Khan" the augmented human turned around and came face to face with his husband's first officer.

"Spock…I've come to get James," Khan said keeping his distance to avoid a fist fight.

"He's not here, he hasn't been for the last six months…he's been living at Admiral Kor's home of course it's not public knowledge but Jim lost his memory of the last year he's remembered some things in the last few months, according to Doctor McCoy, I have a theory that if he sees you he will remember everything that has happened there is one flaw in the plan; there is no way we are going to be allowed to see Jim when he is practically under house arrest at Admiral Kor's home on the other side of the city," Spock said as he put his hands behind his back.

"I can't wait any long I want to see my husband now… you have to take me to him now…" he said trying to stay calm when he really wanted to break something or someone in half. Spock stood there for a moment in deep thought. "We could do as the old earth fairytales of how a prince would climb into a princess's window the same could be done here," Spock remarked. "It wouldn't be expected," Khan said as he followed Spock as they left and went to the edge of the city.

Arriving at the mansion just as the stars began to dot the sky Khan looked up at the balcony above him. "I will wait for you here, be patient with Jim he might not remember you right away," Spock said as Khan quickly scaled the trellis and hopped the railing onto the balcony and came face to face with his very pregnant husband standing there looking stunned that he was standing there. "Stay back, I'm not going to let you hurt me or my child," Jim said backing away from Khan keeping his eyes on him.

"James I would never hurt you," Khan said taking a step forward only to have Jim step away from him in fear. "Yes you would, just like you killed my husband and raped me!" Jim yelled moving again out of Khan's reach. Stunned by the accusation Khan backed away slowly. " James… whoever told you that was lying to you, I didn't kill your husband, I am your husband and we got married because you became pregnant when we made love… please James remember me the real me," the older man requested keeping his distance so as not to scare the other man.

"The Admiral wouldn't lie to me; he has been nothing if not supportive in time of need," Jim argued as he stepped toward Khan and got in his face. "If you really are my husband then why the hell would you leave me alone while pregnant?" Jim asked staying just out of arm's reach. "James I had to… when you get your memories back you'll remember our plan I promise," Khan said taking a step forward and putting his hand on Jim's cheek and stroked it lightly. "Khan… you're a dangerous man…I shouldn't" Khan smirked as he swooped in and kissed his husband. Moaning softly Jim grasped onto the front of Khan's shirt and moaned louder. Breaking the kiss Jim felt light headed as he tried to catch his breath. "Do you remember anything?" Khan asked hovering close to his husband. "A little, you killed Pike and we came after you… and the rest is still to foggy," Jim said rubbing forehead to get rid of oncoming headache.

Smirking Khan leaned forward and kissed Jim's forehead and put his arms around him. "It will come back to you, don't force it…just let the memories float back on their own," Khan said playing with Jim's long bangs. Jim chuckled and blushed as he felt his heartbeat increase a little more. "You're so beautiful Jim…" Khan said as he leaned in and kissed his husband again and held him closely as they kissed again. Getting another memory of them on the roof of his apartment building Jim broke the kiss and looked into Khan's eyes. "We should leave, I would like to get you somewhere safe before you go into labor," Khan remarked reaching forward and brushing his thumb across Kirk's lips a couple times. "I have a feeling that even if I say no you'll make me go with you anyway," Kirk remarked softly with a chuckle as he let Khan sweep him off his feet with ease.

Jumping over the railing with ease Khan landed quietly on the dark lawn below and looked at Spock. "I'm taking him somewhere safe. Where I can trust people…my own people to not betray us, friends or not I don't truly trust anyone around James right now," Khan said as he walked quickly toward the back wall with the half Vulcan. Crying out Jim grabbed Khan's shoulder in pain. "Not to alarm you but I think our child wants out," Jim grit out at a quite painful contraction. Growling in annoyance Khan arrived at the back wall and without warning handing his husband over to the half Vulcan before jumping to the top of the wall and reaching down.

"I'll bring you to your doctor friend right now…" Khan said holding his husband close as he began to mewl in pain. Spock followed closely as he pulled out his communicator on the run. "Doctor McCoy…it seems that our captain's child is wishing to make an appearance. We are going to need medical attention right away, judging by his sounds it will not be long before he gives birth," Spock said as they arrived at the park. "Khan, stop…it's coming…" Jim yelled out as he forced his husband to stop. Putting Jim down on his feet Jim leaned against the closest tree. Holding onto Jim's hand Khan put his free hand on Jim's waist and held him up.

It felt like an hour had passed before the good doctor had arrived with Uhura trailing behind him. "I had a feeling your child was going to give me trouble just like you Jim," McCoy remarked with a small laugh seeing his friend crack a small smile between the contraction pains. "We have to get you to the hospital otherwise you're going to pop any second," McCoy remarked. Jim groaned and threw his head back hitting the tree behind him. "I don't think we're going to make it to the hospital," Jim remarked as he forced his legs to keep him standing. Crying out in pain Jim grabbed onto Khan's arm and squeezed hard. McCoy dropped to his knees and began barking orders to the others who were dumbstruck at what to do next.

"Bones… you haven't even bought me dinner yet and already you want me to put out?" Jim joked through clenched teeth as another wave of pain hit him. Snapping some gloves on quickly he helped his friend remove his maternity pants and began his exam. "Good news is that birth cannel we were hoping would show up is there… bad news is your baby is crowning and you're not fully dilated so there is going to be a lot of pain and blood Jim," McCoy warned as he looked up at Khan. "Take off your shirt we're going to need a blanket," he ordered at the augment as he got ready. Listening to his body Jim began to bear down as a scream tore out of him nearly ripping his vocal cords in half. "Almost done… one more big push Jim and they'll be out," Bones said as he cradled the head and shoulders of the newborn. Pushing harder the second time Jim could feel the pressure lift almost instantly as his child slipped out into the doctor's waiting arms.

"It's a boy…" McCoy called out as he wrapped the crying baby up and tied off the umbilical cord and held the laser cutter up to Khan as he cut where he was told. Handing the newborn over to Khan so he and Jim could see their son together McCoy smiled at the sight. "Not to ruin the mood but we should get you cleaned up and out of here before someone shows up," the doctor added as he waited for the after birth. Once it passed McCoy he helped his friend clean up enough and get his pants back on.

Khan looked at his husband for a moment before looking at the others. "We're too far from my ship to walk especially now, we need to stay somewhere for the night," Khan said as he juggled his newborn son and husband. "You can stay at my place its closer," Spock said as he cleared his throat and moved over to help Khan hold Jim up. Traveling as quickly as they could with a newborn and the formerly pregnant captain to Spock's apartment Khan allowed the half Vulcan lead his husband to the bathroom off of the single bedroom. Coddling his son Khan couldn't help but smile at the tiny hand that grabbed his finger tightly. "You are most precious to me…you will always be protected my little one," Khan whispered not caring if Spock saw the weaker side of him.

Spock stood quietly in the doorway to his bedroom and watched the augment with the newborn in his arms. "I'm going to take my leave to let you rest, I will be at Nyota's if I am needed, if I do not see you before you leave…. Then live long and prosper Khan," Spock said with a slight strain in his voice as he raised his hand. Khan nodded as he looked up from his son's face and at the half Vulcan. "And to you as well, once we are back home safe you and the crew of the Enterprise are welcome to our new home though as leader I ask that you come as guests not as Starfleet… anyone wearing a Starfleet uniform has been ordered to be detained for our own safety of course," Khan said giving a smirk as he looked back down when his son cooed a bit. Nodding Spock left the apartment leaving Khan and Kirk in the safety of his home.

After a long warm shower Jim walked out of the bathroom dressed in a pair of pants he stole from Spock's closet. Leaving the bedroom he smirked at the sight of Khan still rocking lightly with their son in his arms. Turning around Khan walked over and stood in front of the other man. "James, may I officially present you with your son… Christopher George Singh…" Khan said as he handed the baby over to the nervous man. "Being alone with you right now I remember a lot more, the tea you would make me every morning, the incredibly wild sex, even the warehouse…" Jim said his voice dropping down.

"None of that matters now, once your rested up we're going home, I hope you enjoy being pampered everyone is dying to meet you… both of you," Khan said as he leaned in and pecked his husband on the lips. Jim smiled into the kiss before pulling away. "You realize I should be so furious at you for not coming for me sooner but really I could care less right now," Jim remarked with a sigh as he walked over to the couch and sat down and got comfortable. "You should go lie down and get some sleep you look tired," the augment remarked as he sat next to husband. "I want to stay next to you a little while longer… I'll sleep later, when we get home we'll have to start a nursery," Jim said.

Chucking Khan looked at their son for a moment. "No need, when I had to leave you the first time I left Earth it was by chance I found this world, the natives were very generous and gave me an island after hearing my story of hardship and love. When I had the city built I made sure our new home had a nursery that overlooks the ocean and gets warm sunlight yet a nice breeze as well," Khan said placing a kiss on Jim's temple. Jim smiled for a moment then stopped after he realized something. "Wait a minute I didn't tell you about my pregnancy until after you came back. Did you know when we slept together I could get pregnant?" the captain asked getting annoyed.

"Now James…does it really matter if I knew or…" Khan stopped when he saw the look on his husbands face.

"Damn it Khan did you know or didn't you that's all I want to know," Jim demanded as he lowered his voice when he realized he was about to wake his son.

"I knew…that it was a possibility for you to get pregnant, I'll be honest with you James, before we first kissed my plan had been to uses you against Starfleet. I was trying to seduce you and somehow it backfired on me the moment we kissed. I had planned on making you desire me and then I was going to leave the next morning forcing you to look for me but while you were still asleep I watched you for most of the night and I couldn't do it, I was pretty smitten with you and I realized that if I left that I would have made the mistake of hanging around to make sure you were safe which would have put you in even more danger, " Khan said as he reached over to touch Jim's cheek only to have him lean away.

"Khan...if you really aren't using me then prove it, I won't tell you how but I want you to do something that proves to me that you really are in love with me, don't worry I'm not going to leave you and keep your son away from you but you will be sleeping on the couch if you fail to prove that you love me," Jim said with a smirk. "Tease," Khan said as he slipped off the couch onto his knees and turned to the other man. "James Tiberius Singh…I would be honored if you allowed me to shower you with gifts and love when we arrive at our new home, I promise the moment I get you alone I will worship every inch of your body," Khan said in his deep voice as he put his head against Jim's thigh and sighed softly.

Letting out a loud cry Christopher opened his steel blue eyes and looked up at his mother. "Jim chuckled and looked at his son. "Sounds like someone is hungry, we're also going to need diapers for him too," Jim remarked as he got up and went over to the replicator and ordered a bottle of formula and smirked when it appeared. "Here you go," Jim said as he held his son correctly and started to feed his son. "I wish my mother could meet her grandson before we leave," Jim said softly. Khan looked over at his husband and started to formulate a plan about making a detour to his mother in law's home. "Where does she live?" Khan asked figuring out in his head how far they would have to travel.

"Riverside, Iowa… I know it would be too dangerous to go especially when Kor finds out I'm missing," Jim said with a small sigh. "Worrying doesn't look good on you James… let me worry about Kor," Khan said as he came up behind his husband and put his arms around him and kissed the back of his neck. "What are we going to do for a bed for Chris tonight?" Jim asked as he put the empty bottle down and burped the newborn. "We'll use the couch cushions and put them on the floor though he won't roll so we won't have to worry too much," Khan remarked as he quickly set the cushions up on the floor into a makeshift crib. Jim looked at the crib with worry wondering how safe it was. Taking his son from his husband Khan put the newborn in the crib and smirked at how happy he looked. Walking over and scooping his husband into his arms Khan smirked. " You need your rest also James… don't worry I'm going to stay up a little while longer then I'll come to bed I promise," he said putting Jim in Spock's bed and tucking him in and waiting for Jim to fall asleep.

Leaving the bed room Khan quietly paced the living room before going to the computer in the room and began to search the information he needed after a long search he grabbed the phone from the tele-screen and dialed the number he found. After a few rings the screen lit up with a live image of a woman who looked annoyed at the call because of the hour.

"Ahem… Winona Kirk?" Khan asked keeping his voice down though he knew his husband was a deep sleeper.

"I haven't gone by Kirk in a long time but yes…who are you and do you have any idea what time it is?" Winona asked looking at Khan on the screen.

"My deepest apologies ma'am, my name is Khan, I'm…well I'm your son in law…" Khan said being blunt.

"You must have the wrong Kirk, my son isn't one for settling down," She said taking a seat in front of her screen.

"No I believe I have the correct Winona Kirk, your husband was George Kirk, a man who gave his life to rescue his family and crew on the U.S.S Kelvin, I married your son James Tiberius Kirk we are the proud parents of Christopher George Singh, he was born a little less than two hours ago," Khan said as he positioned the screen so Winona could see her grandson.

"Jim never told me about a baby or you, though I haven't spoken to him in almost a year… so was this call just to inform me I'm a grandmother or is there something else you wanted Mr. Singh?" Winona asked being able to read Khan's face.

Taken aback by the formalness of his mother in law Khan chuckled. "I see where James gets his cunning from, I called because I would like to surprise James with your visit before we leave Earth for our new home he wanted you to meet your grandson in person and I have a feeling get some of his old things for him like clothes and toys," Khan said hoping his plan would work. "I can arrange that, I'll pack up his old things that I still have and I'll take a transport out there as soon as possible. Let me guess you also need diapers too," she said with a knowing smirk. Nodding Khan felt a twinge start to form at how his mother in law could read him so well.

"I'll be there as soon as possible with everything you'll need, I just need an address is all," she said getting ready to take the information down. Giving the address Khan bid her goodnight and ended the call. Walking into the bedroom Khan stripped his clothes and slid into bed behind Jim and held him against his chest and placed feather light kisses down the back of his neck before he fell asleep.

Waking to the sound of the doorbell's soft chime Khan quickly dressed and went to answer the door. Finding his mother in law standing before him with a couple large shipping boxes beside her Khan let her in and brought the boxes in and put them down by the door. "I take it my son is still asleep…well I wanted to talk to you privately either way," Winona said as she watched Kahn until he made his way to the kitchen table. "I want to know your intentions toward my son Khan; you say that you married him but I want to know why?" she asked

"I love him for one; the other is because of our son… I grew up in a life that I never want and I want my child to grow up happy, and to know his father I know that James grew up without his real father," Khan said as he got up when he heard Christopher begin to fuss and picked him up and held him close. "Shhh, it's okay little one," the augment said softly as he rocked his son. "He needs a fresh diaper and food," Winona said as she walked over and took her grandson from her son in law and opened one of the boxes and pulled out some diapers, wipes and old baby clothes. Working quickly she looked at her grandson who cooed almost in appreciation for the fresh diaper.

Khan took his son from his mother in law and held him close and kissed his temple. "I will kill anyone that tries to harm you my little treasure," Khan said as he rocked softly as he walked into the kitchen and replicated a bottle of formula and began to feed Christopher as he locked eyes with his father and watched him as he drank. "I would like to know how my son got pregnant in the first place since he's well male," Winona said still not sure about how everything happened.

"It's all because of Khan's DNA well to be more accurate a serum Bones created from his blood after I died from severe radiation poisoning when I reset the warp core on my ship that Khan damaged when he shot my ship," Jim said as he came out of the bedroom and walked over to his mother and hugged her. "It's good to see you again mom, I see you met my husband and your grandson," Jim said as he finally pulled away and walked over and kissed his husband and smirked in the kiss as they broke apart.

"Love you" Jim said softly entranced by the kiss. Khan smirked as he put his son back down in the makeshift crib before he walked over and sat beside Jim. "You still look tired, you need more sleep," Khan said softly. "I'm fine besides I'll sleep on the way home," Jim said ignoring his husband as he looked over at his mother. "So how are things with Jack?"

"He died last July, liver failure he drank himself into the grave that man did not deal with stress well," Winona said

"Sounds like a decent man," Khan mumbled getting a kick in the leg from Jim.

"I'm sorry to hear that mom, maybe you could come stay with us for a while, I could use the help with Chris being that I'm kind of winging it here as you can tell," Jim said motioning toward the so called crib.

Smiling Winona got up and put her arms around her son. "Even being unprepared you two seem to be doing very well for yourselves and I wouldn't mind coming with you because I'm going to spoil my grandson rotten and keep an eye on him that way you two can spend time together," she said with a smile. "Thank you," Khan said as he put his arms around his husband and held him close. "

"Well if we're going to leave we should leave now while we have time either Kor hasn't noticed your disappearance yet or he just hasn't gotten here yet," Khan said as he pulled away from his husband and began to clean up any signs that they had been there so they could disappear and not leave a trail behind for Kor to follow.

Grabbing the shipping crates with ease Khan brought them to his ship and returned to the apartment where his family was waiting. "We should go, it's only a matter of time before Kor gets here and finds us," Khan said as he watched Jim bundle up their son and hold him close to his chest. Leaving the apartment with his mother and Khan, Jim held Chris close as they left the apartment buildings and made their way to the shuttle. Once they were all safely inside Jim sat down and looked down at his son as he began to fuss a bit.

"Here, you give him to me… you need some more rest James," Winona remarked as she took her grandson and rocked him softly while she watched her son get comfortable enough to fall asleep as the ship took to the sky. Khan watched for any signs of Starfleet coming after them as they rose higher into the sky. Once they were in space Khan programed the autopilot and moved over so he was by his family. "We'll be at our new home in a few hours," the augment said as he got comfortable so he could move to the pilot's chair if need be as well.

Looking at his son Khan reached over and took his small hand in his and held it in his as he looked over at Jim as he slept across from them. "Do you think you two will have more children?" Winona asked with a smile at the thought of more grandchildren. "Not right away… but I would like more children, I wish for all my people to have the same happiness in their lives. Christopher has barely been alive a day and yet I feel like any anger I had in my heart is gone with the exception of my hate for Kor who threatened my family," Khan said calmly as he slipped his hand away from his son and walked back to the pilot's chair.

Keeping his eyes open for any debris as they flew through space Khan chewed his bottom lip a trait he picked up from Jim. As the hours moved by slowly Khan looked at his mother and law again who had begun to sing to her grandson. Khan smirked at the song as he checked how much longer the trip would be. When the alert beeped that they had only two hours left Khan got up and walked over to his husband and shook him awake. "James I want you to see everything as we land," Khan said as he sat beside James and took his hand in his. "You're going to love our new home I promise," Khan said with a smile.
