hey! inudigifan201 here! and welcome to Amon's Secret Apprentice (mature version). this version is not for the faint of heart or the weak of stomachs. if you can't handle this, but wanna keep reading, then please read the original and save yourself from the gore. it won't hurt my feelings at all. at any rate... here it is, Enjoy... if you can...
For updates on my life and why it takes so long to write these chapters: check out my twitter inudigifan201 ... I know, same name; that's the point.
sorry for the long wait guys... maybe this long-ish chapter will make things better? I'm sorry guys my life has been super crazy since October of last year (2015) and I haven't had much time to work on any of my stories. I'm not being lazy or anything, it's just; I have a job now and my best friend and her 2-year-old son are living with me... I'm lucky to get some sleep most nights. and... my mom also has kidney failure. so her dr.'s appointments come first before story telling. again, I'm sorry I took so long with this.
About this chapter: is there a little romance between Konna and Bolin? a familiar face rears his head. and Noahtok and Tarrlok... talk... about stuff... kinda.
PS. I loosely based Kassidy off of Harley Quinn from Batman... long story. and Azula... can't get any crazier than these two.
and Konna loosely off of Flutter-Shy and Princess Luna from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. and yes, I watch MLP:FIM. And you gotta deal with it! and a little off of Rose/Hunts-girl from American Dragon: Jake Long. and Zuko... and she also kinda resembles Queen Elsa from Frozen. funny thing, I finished the original before seeing that movie.
Ch, 20. Have a seat.
The sun was setting as Konna sat on her little private beach on the island. Every muscle in her body ached. But, it didn't bug her that much. She smiled as she watched some birds cross the colorful sky. Her old sketchbook was open and rested in her lap.
"Hey." She heard a voice and looked up to see who it was. She blushed and bit her bottom lip as Bolin smiled and waved at her.
"Hi." She stood up closing the book. "I was leaving anyway."
"Wait!" He lightly grabbed her arm. "I just wanna talk."
She sighed and looked back at him. Her blush had faded and she shrugged. "What's to talk about?"
"Ok… so… have you been avoiding me lately? Did I offend you or something?" He looked her in the eyes.
"No." She broke his grip and put her hand on her sketchbook. "You didn't offend me."
"Do you hate me?" He sighed.
She sighed as well. "That's not it either…" She hid her book behind her back. "I do care about you, but…"
"But what?" He became confused. "Don't you want to be around people who care about you?"
"Yes and no." She hid behind her hair. "It's complicated."
"What's so complicated?" He paused. "Are you in love with my brother?"
She came out of her hair and raised an eyebrow as she rolled her eyes. "EW no! He's dating my sister! And they're happy!" She smiled softly. "Besides… He's not my type." She blushed.
He became even more confused as he scratched the back of his head. "Ok. So… what is it then?"
She sighed as her blush faded. "I'm afraid."
"Afraid? Afraid of what? Nobody's going to hurt you here. We all want to protect you, keep you safe…" He blushed. "Everyone here cares about you."
She blushed again. "Thank you." Her blush faded. "But, that's not what I'm afraid of. I'm not free… free from my past. Free… Free from them… they're what I'm afraid of. I'm… I'm afraid of…" She began to cry. "I'm afraid of losing everyone I care about. It's my job to protect you guys, but I'm doing a terrible job and I'm sorry."
He smiled softly and pulled her into a hug. She smiled and hugged him back. "Don't worry about us, we can take care of ourselves." He whispered in her ear.
She blushed, but continued to embrace him. She didn't even notice her sketch book had fallen and opened to one of the drawings of him and the picture she stuffed in there.
He looked down. "Did you draw that?"
Confused, she looked down. In panic she broke free from his embrace, swiftly picked up the book and picture, closed it together, and hid the book behind her back again. "Draw what?" She gave him a fake smile.
"Lem'me see." He snatched the book right out of her hands. "These are really good." He flipped the pages.
Her face turned crimson in color. "Give it back! It's mine!" She tried to grab it out of his hands, but couldn't reach.
"I'm serious, these are really good." He came to a drawing of a child. "Who's this kid? He's adorable."
Her face was beyond red. "Y… y… you."
He blushed. "Really?"
"I drew it a long time ago and from memory… was I anywhere close?" She continued to blush.
He blushed even harder as he looked back at the drawing. "Almost spot on, although, I'm pretty sure I was fatter…" he chuckled a little. "Didn't always have these muscles." He flexed a little.
She giggled.
He smiled and flipped the page. "Oh hey, is this one Korra?" he showed her the drawing. "She doesn't have a face…"
The drawing was of a little girl with her back to the observer and was gracefully water bending.
Konna's blush faded a bit and she nodded. "Yep… I couldn't remember her face when I drew it so I drew her with her back to me." She flipped the page. "This one I drew my whole family… but left their faces blank."
He shuttered. "Kinda creepy, but really good."
She sighed and turned the page again. "The next few are of you, I tried to age you from memory." She blushed.
He smiled as she turned the pages. "Almost… vary close. Wow, you made me look a lot like my brother."
"I'm sorry!" She blushed valiantly.
He chuckled. "It's fine… he says I eat too much. That's why I have such a fat face." He smiled.
She continued to blush. "I think your face is fine…" She looked away. "I mean… it's… it suits the rest of you."
He chuckled, smiled, and blushed. "I know what you mean."
She smiled and looked back at him as her blush dissipated. "Must be nice, being so close to your brother. Korra says she and I used to be that close, I believe it, but…"
His smile and blush faded. "You're not that close anymore."
"Ya." She nodded.
"You wanna be that close again?" He asked.
She nodded once more. "It would be nice."
He looked out at the ocean. "I can't imagine being away from Mako for that long. You must have been so lonely."
"Ya." She sat down and curled up into a little ball. "And finding friends was impossible."
He sat down next to her and placed her sketchbook beside her. "I bet."
She glanced at him and then back out at the sunset that was speeding up. "I thought I could trust Kassidy, but she proved me wrong." She glanced back at him. "I was afraid of trusting Asami."
He seemed shocked. "What changed?"
She smiled. "She's been trying to be my friend since we met." She sighed. "Kassidy stabbed me in the back first chance she got. Asami… Asami tried to defend me."
He raised an eyebrow. "What happened?" He paused out of his own confusion. "Between you and Kassidy I mean."
She sighed. "It was back in Ba Sing Sa…" She began. "We had just stolen some food when… Noahtok caught up to me." She began to shiver.
"You don't have to tell me." He lightly grabbed her hands. "I understand if you don't want to."
She gasped, blushed, and looked him in the eyes. He gave her a small warm, but goofy, smile. She smiled back as her body seemed to relax. She felt herself lean closer to him and she closed her eyes. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes as well. They could feel each other's breath on their skin.
"Konna!" Tenzin called out.
She opened her eyes and pouted. He opened his eyes and sighed.
She shrugged. "I guess I have to go." She gave him a warm smile and wave as she stood up.
He stood up too and handed her the sketchbook. "Ya, Tenzin is kinda scary when mad."
"Konna!?" Tenzin called out again in a more worried tone.
She giggled a little as she held her book to her chest. "Well, I better go see what he wants… thanks for talking to me." She blushed.
He blushed too. "You're welcome."
She then stomped her foot and moved her free arm. Stairs formed from the side of the cliff.
He smiled at her. "Getting better, and ladies first." He gave her a little bow.
She giggled. And started walking to the stairs.
Tenzin stood at the top of the steps with a stern look on his face.
Konna walked up to him and waited for Bolin to reach the top. She then bended the stairs back into the cliff. She then looked back at Tenzin. "You called?" She tried not to look nervous.
Tenzin sighed and rolled his eyes. "Lin wants to speak with you… about Noahtok."
The nervous smile Konna had on her face was replaced with a pout.
He then took a deep breath. "AND WHERE WERE YOU YOUNG LADY! NOBODY KNEW WHERE YOU WERE! DO YOU KNOW HOW WORRIED I WAS? SOMETHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED!" He yelled.
She picked at her ear and checked her finger for wax. She then looked back up at the fuming air-bending master. "Sorry?"
He took another deep breath and let it out after he realized whom he just yelled at. "I'm sorry Konna. I was just worried about you." He put his hand on her shoulder. "And." He sighed. "I forgot you're not Korra for a moment."
Konna smiled and nodded. "I figured." Her smile faded back into a pout. "But, do I have to talk about Noahtok? I want to distance myself as much as possible from that monster."
Tenzin sighed. "I know, but…" He knelt down a little and looked in her the eyes. "You are the only one who can help put him behind bars where he belongs."
She huffed and blew some hair out from in front of her face. "Fine." She crossed her arms.
Lin sat at the dining room table with a cup of tea in front of her steaming. An empty cup sat on the other side.
Konna walked in with Tenzin right behind her. She sat down where the empty cup sat and looked over at Lin.
Tenzin bowed. "I'll leave you ladies to chat." He exited the room.
Lin picked up the pot and grabbed the empty cup. "Iroh says you seem to favor jasmine over the other teas you two have at tea time." She began to pour.
Konna smiled and nodded. "It's my favorite."
Lin gave her a small smile and handed her a now full cup of tea. "Right now I'm not your earth-bending master. Right now, I'm chief of police. I wanna put Noahtok behind bars just as much as you do, but I have no idea of where to find him."
Konna blew on her tea a little and stared down at the cup. "That's where I come in, isn't it?"
Lin sighed. "I also need a full list of his crimes. So I know what exactly I'm charging him for."
Konna giggle coldly. "Kidnapping, blood-bending, murder… do I need to continue Chief?" A darkness had taken over her whole being as she looked up at Lin. She spoke coldly and sharply, her eyes narrowed, her soft smile had been replaced by an unsympathetic frown. "Or is that all you need to put that monster away for good?"
Lin seemed shocked. "Ah, that's enough. Thank you."
Konna sipped her tea. "As for location…" She sat the cup down and looked Lin in the eyes. "I can only think of one place where he'd go. There is a bunker in the middle of the forest closer to the mountains. Your men raided it before, and it was empty, but if I know him… he laid low for a while until things quieted down. I'm sure he's there now. It's the only outpost he has in republic city, and with no fallowers, he has nowhere else to go." Her normal demeanor returned.
Lin nodded. "Thank you." She smiled and chuckled a little. "Honestly I thought it would be a bit harder to get that information out of you."
Konna shrugged. "I just wanna help in any way I can."
"Konna?" Lin's smile had faded.
"Yes chief?" Konna seemed confused.
"Never mind." Lin shrugged it off.
The stars glimmered in the darker than usual sky. The moon had disappeared. Konna tossed and turned in her sleep.
Konna's eyes flushed open. She looked around. She was back in the spirit world, but a different part. It was colder. She could see her breath as she exhaled. She then looked herself over. "Why am I in my PJ's?" She asked herself as she shivered.
A spirit with the body of a bug and a face that changed every few seconds slithered over to her. "I am Koh the face stealer." It introduced itself.
Konna nodded and straightened out her face to show no emotion. "I've heard about you."
"Ah, you know what I do if you show emotion… darn." He changed faces to a woman's face. The woman's face was beautiful. "You and I have such a history Antitar." The face changed again, this time to a mask.
Konna became confused, but didn't show it. "But this is the first time we have ever met."
"Wrong!" Koh bolted toward her and stopped a few inches away from her face. She kept her straight face. "You are good. I will give you that, Antitar. But we have met before… in another life of yours." He chuckled as his face switched again. "Kunnach was your name last time we met. You were angered by your brother, not doing his job as the avatar n' all, so, you sought my assistance."
"What happened?" she became curious.
"I stole his fiancé's face." He chuckled.
She gasped. "That's terrible!" she regained her composer.
He looked back at her to try to catch her. "But, you asked me to do it."
"Why? Why did my past life hate his brother so?" She showed concern.
He smiled. "You slipped!"
She scowled. "You will not steal my face!" She almost yelled.
He backed up and bowed. "Yes Antitar. As you wish."
"Huh?" She became confused. "Why are you bowing to me?"
"The Antitar is the commander of all spirits. You didn't know?" He looked back up at her.
"No, nobody told me. Nobody seems to know anything about me." She found a rock and sat down. "Tell me, why did Kunnach hate his brother?"
"Hate? I wouldn't say hate. No, he loved his brother. He was just upset that his brother wasn't doing his job. After I stole the woman's face, Kunnach came after me and told me I stole the wrong face. I was supposed to get a random villager. But, her face was just too tempting." He explained. "it was a very beautiful face."
"I can see why he was mad." She rolled her eyes.
Koh slinked over to her. "I sense much anger in you, for someone so young." He paused and wrapped his body around the rock she was sitting on. "Tell me, is someone bothering you? Would you like me to take CARE of them?"
The land around them became darker as Konna buried her head in her knees.
"Not your concern." Her voice was muffled. "I can handle them myself."
"Can you?" He tightened his body around her. "You don't seem too sure of that fact."
"Because I'm not." She began to cry. "I hate killing people." She sniffled. "Even when they are monsters that need to die."
"Killing them is up to you." Koh's words echoed.
Her tears soaked her face and woke her up from her slumber. She wiped away the salty water from her eyes and face. "I wonder if Koh was telling the truth?" She asked herself.
She looked out the window and noticed that it was still dark out and the stars shimmered in the night sky. She then looked over at her clock and groaned. She then plopped her head back onto her pillow and pulled the covers over her head.
She was soon fast asleep all over again.
The sun beat down on Noahtok's back as he woke from a hard night of being sober. He didn't get much sleep at all.
"Knock, knock." Tarrlok walked in the room and closed the shredded curtains. "Can't have Republic City see us criminal master minds." He chuckled. "I'm very proud of you."
This caught Noahtok off guard. "Why?"
Tarrlok gave him a small, burnt smile. "You've been sober for 3 days. Keep it up."
Noahtok gave his brother a small smile as well. "It's not easy. There is so much I just want to forget."
"Her?" Tarrlok asked.
"Ya." Noahtok nodded.
Kassidy ran in huffing, trying to catch her breath. "Cops!" She managed to speak.
Noahtok bolted up from his bed. "What?! I thought they already raided the place."
"What do we do?" Tarrlok asked.
Outside, Lin was handed a megaphone as Konna watched from behind the police line.
"Noahtok, and whoever else is in there, come out with your hands up." Lin spoke into the megaphone.
Konna rubbed her arm. "I have a bad feeling about this." She mumbled to herself.
Noahtok looked out the window. "Konna is with the police?" he asked aloud.
"What?!" Kassidy pushed him out of the way to see for herself. "She ratted us out! She's so dead!" she stormed to the door.
"Kassidy!" Noahtok called out. "Remember she can bend all four elements now." He warned.
Kassidy looked back at him and rolled her eyes. "It will be a quick death." She smiled smugly.
Kassidy was soon outside and had a water whip ready to go. The police readied themselves for a fight. Kassidy groaned and glared. "Me and Konna only!" She proclaimed.
Konna took a deep breath and stepped forward. Lin grabbed her arm and Konna looked at her and shook her head. Lin let go. Konna then waved the police back and they stepped aside and let her meet her challenger.
Kassidy scowled even more. Konna took another deep breath and got into her fighting stance.
"You can tell the cops what to do now?" Kassidy growled.
Konna rolled her eyes. "I didn't tell them to do anything."
"Yes you did you traitor!" Kassidy lunged at her turning her whip into ice.
Konna stomped down and a wall of dirt come up in between them shattering the ice. She then used the dirt to push Kassidy back.
Kassidy laughed. "You always were a coward. Hiding behind anything you could find." She taunted.
Konna's eyes narrowed and she let the wall down. Her fists were soon engulfed in flames.
"Nope, Kassidy is the dead one." Noahtok observed the battle from his window.
"How do you figure that?" Tarrlok became confused.
Noahtok glanced over at his brother and then back at the battle. "Konna…" He paused. "Her aura has changed. She has become what we call Black Konna."
Tarrlok seemed even more puzzled. "What does that mean?"
Noahtok's focus was still outside on the battle. He watched Kassidy barely avoid an exploding fireball. "You know how everyone has a flight or fight defense?"
Tarrlok nodded.
"Black Konna does not. In fact, she is all offense." Noahtok began to explain. "Black Konna is blood thirsty and highly dangerous. If you think being a blood bender is bad, then you haven't met Black Konna."
"Can she be stopped?" Tarrlok wondered.
Noahtok looked his brother dead in the eyes. "Somehow, but I've never figured it out. Most of the time she just snaps herself out of it and becomes her timid, pathetic, cowardice self again." He sighed. "I wanted to figure out how to control Black Konna and make her permanently that way, but all attempts on that endeavor failed miserably and I lost a few good men because of it." He sighed again. "And I've been an inch away from dying myself."
"Well, you did torture the poor girl." Tarrlok crossed his arms. "I'm surprised she hasn't killed you yet."
Noahtok rolled his eyes. "She doesn't have the guts."
Tarrlok raised a non-existent eyebrow. "Are you sure about that?"
Noahtok shrugged as he watched Konna pin Kassidy to the ground and was about to land the final blow. "She's tried; she just can't seem to do it."
"Konna!" Lin called out. "She's had enough!"
Konna's eyes returned to normal and her demeanor changed. She looked down at Kassidy on the ground and at her hand that was engulfed in flames. She let go of Kassidy's top and stumbled back. The look on her face was part confusion and fear. She sighed and rolled her body back. "I was about to kill her, wasn't I?" She looked over at Lin.
"Ah…" Lin was confused. "Yes…" she tried to choose her words carefully. "Does this happen often?"
Konna kicked a small pile of dirt. "More than I would like to admit."
Lin, still confused, looked over at her men. "Take the hostile into custody."
Two of the men handcuffed Kassidy and took her to the airship.
"The rest of you search the building for anyone else. Arrest anyone on sight." Lin ordered.
Konna watched as Kassidy was taken away. A sigh of relief settled over her. Lin walked up behind her. "Care to explain what just happened?" Lin wanted answers.
Konna gulped and looked back at her. "Please don't tell Bolin." She was on the brink of tears.
Lin nodded. "I won't tell him anything you don't want him to know."
Konna whipped away the tears forming in her eyes. "And you won't arrest me right?"
Lin seemed puzzled again. "Konna, what have you done?"
"Promise me you won't think of me any different than you do now." Konna rubbed her arm.
Lin gulped, nodded, and looked her in the eyes. "I promise."
Konna took a deep breath and her eyes narrowed. "I've spilled blood that wasn't my own."
The wind blew between them. The air felt thick.
Lin was flabbergasted. She couldn't speak.
Konna eyes had returned to normal and she kicked the dirt a little more.
Lin took a deep breath and then let it out. "You've… you've… killed?"
"At least five." Konna hid behind her hair. "I didn't mean too, I had no control of my body."
Lin nodded. "Like earlier?"
Konna nodded. "Yeah."
The bookshelf with the hidden door behind it closed before the police could see it.
Tarrlok sighed as he walked down the stairs. "Hiding from police, we truly are criminals."
Noahtok looked back at his brother. "Do you want to be arrested?"
"Not really." Tarrlok answered.
"That's what I thought." Noahtok looked back down at the dark stairwell before them.
