Epilogue

Sydney walked into the back deck of the massive house they now lived in. It had been nearly ten years since she and Adrian had run. They were now immersed in Greek culture, even taking the last name of Spyros. She had changed her name to Katina, but Adrian had opted to keep his own name. He sold his art pieces on the street sometimes, all signed Jet Steel. This always made Sydney smile when she thought about it.

Their son Josh, now just a few days shy of his fourth birthday, squealed with delight when he saw her. "Mama! I zo̱grafízei me ton bampá!"

Sydney smiled and kissed his cheek. "Eímai sígouros óti eínai ómorfi̱." She looked to her husband. "We have some special company."

"I was beginning to wonder." He wrapped his arms around his wife and pressed a kiss to her lips. "I love you."

"S 'agapó̱." She gave him a lingering kiss. Then she sat Josh down. "Go see who's inside, agoraki mou."

"Jill?" He asked anxiously.

"Maybe." She ruffled his hair and laughed as he ran off.

Adrian took her hand and followed. "You're looking radiant today."

"Are you just trying not to tell me how much weight I've gained?" She looked sideways. "Prépei na tous po̱?"

"God, I love it when you speak Greek."

"I like being multilingual. So what do you say?"

"Boreíte na tous peíte." He placed his hand on her stomach. "If Josh hasn't already done it. And Jill should already know."

They walked inside to find their son chattering along in a lovely mixture of Greek and English as he sat on Jill's lap.

Eddie sat close and shook his head. "I'm only getting about every fourth word, but he said something about painting?"

Jill smiled. "He gets to paint with his daddy every day. And he's excited about a new baby. And he will teach his baby to paint just like his daddy did."

"A baby?" Eddie looked from Jill to Adrian to Sydney. "Why did no one tell me about a baby?"

"They just found out yesterday." Jill explained. "I thought they should have the honor of telling you." She tickled the boy on her lap. "This little guy can't keep a secret. Anói̱to mikró agóri."

Josh giggled.

Jill held out her hand to Adrian. "Stop standing there and give me a hand, will you?"

Adrian smiled and kneeled in front of her. He took her hands and let his magic pull the darkness from her. She sat back and sighed with relief.

"So glad there's not much of that these days."

"Me too." Adrian patted her knee and then stood. "You guys want something to drink?"

"I'm fine, I visited a feeder before we came." Jill said.

"Eddie?"

The guardian shook his head.

"Pateroúli̱s goes to the feeder, too. He drinks blood." Josh explained.

"That's true." Eddie grinned. "Hey, show me those muscles, Josh."

The boy scrambled down off Jill's lap and struck several strongman poses. Everyone laughed, giving Josh the courage to ham it up and show off some more. Sydney kissed the top of his head as she pulled him onto her lap.

Josh looked to the guardian he so admired, much to Sydney's fear. "Eddie, will you show me some moves? Parakaló̱?"

"Maybe later, kid. Jill and I just had a very long journey and we need to rest."

Josh nodded.

"Go play in your room for a while, agoraki mou." Sydney sat him on the floor.

"Nai, Mama." He walked slowly out of the room.

"Oh, you hurt his feelings." Adrian commented.

"He's fine." Sydney assured him. "They'll be here for a couple weeks."

"The way he talks is just so cute." Jill commented. "The Greek and English mixed together." She curled into Eddie's side.

"Adrian still doesn't know nearly as much." Sydney said with a grin. "He and Josh are learning together. I think our son has surpassed his father, though. Allá ta agória mou eínai tóso ómorfos kai éxypni̱ kai talantoúcha."

"I̱ gynaíka mou eínai epísi̱s polý talantoúchos. This house is one of my favorite creations of hers." Adrian sent a smirk to his wife.

Jill nodded. "It's great. So you guys are fine? Everything's fine?"

Adrian and Sydney exchanged a look and nodded. Adrian said, "No Alchemists knocking and only your bunch on occasion. Even my father leaves me alone now. He doesn't want anything to do with Josh, anyway."

"I'm sorry to hear that." Eddie said. He glanced anxiously at his girlfriend.

"Well, tell them already." Jill prompted.

"Tell us what?" Adrian asked.

"We're getting married." Eddie said.

"Finally." Jill added with a laugh. "And if it's okay with you, we'd kind of like to do it here. Before we leave. I want to fly in my parents and Eddie wants Rose and Lissa and Christian to be here."

"And Dimitri. But that would mean your place would be crawling with the royal guard. Jill and I can sneak in and out pretty easily. This will be a bit of exposure."

Sydney chewed her lip and had a silent exchange with Adrian. She shrugged.

"We've been playing it safe for a long time." Adrian argued.

"Josh…" She began.

"With a royal guard, he'll be fine. And he'll fall all over himself to learn something from all of them."

Sydney shook her head. "But what about after they leave?"

Adrian shrugged. "We could hire a few guardians here."

"You could also have an in-house feeder." She snapped. She stopped herself and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. I'm happy for you two."

"We could have it somewhere else." Eddie offered. "We would just really like you there. You're important to us. We wanted to run it by you before we started planning and organizing and everything."

"If you want it here and you want all those people, we can do it." Sydney assured him. She smiled. "Abe Mazur could definitely sneak everyone in and out pretty easily. He's the expert smuggler."

"I'll have Rose give him a call." Eddie said. "But it's just the five of us for the rest of the weekend."

Adrian pointed to Sydney's stomach. "Six." He grinned proudly.

Sydney rubbed her belly and winked at her husband. "I'll go check on Josh and start dinner."

"I'll help." Eddie stood and followed. "Let these two catch up."

"Joshie can come sit with us if he's tired of being in his room." Jill called as they left the room. "I love that little guy."

"You could move closer." Adrian commented. "See him more often. See me more often."

"I suppose we could. I just have to be alive and visit Court enough that Lissa can keep her throne."

"So move here." He insisted.

"I'll talk to Eddie." She assured him.

"You do that." Adrian grinned. "So when do I become an uncle?"

Jill laughed. "Let us get married and find a place to settle, okay?"

"I guess I can wait. I'll have the second one to spoil soon enough."

"Pateroúli̱s!" Josh exclaimed as he ran back into the room.

Adrian laughed and gathered him close. "S 'agapó̱ , agoráki mou."

"S 'agapó̱ polý, bampá." Josh sighed into his chest.
