THIS STORY IS BACK IN ACTION BABY! I've changed a little since this story's hiatus, so if I'm writing differently, that's the reason. AND I haven't watched KnB for a long time, not even the third season! T0T So, if I got stuff wrong, then yeah. I'll still put in some childhood moments as usual and this story will continue on. Yay! Hope you enjoy this chapter! :D
*Warning: May have language and it'll be as LONG as heck! So watch out. There will be no childhood moment, since I can't come up with one right away. Sorry! T^T*
The next day, the whole team saw Seiho's performance on the DVD Kuroko and Kagami saw. "Sorry," Koganei said. "but I feel like crying again."
Riko turned to him. "Frankly, we'd lose nine times out of ten against Seiho and Shutoku. We just have to bring that one win to our games."
Hyuga looked at Riko and said, "Hey, listen." The female coach turned to him. "I wouldn't go so far as to call it a strategy, but I have an idea." Kuroko was curious on what Hyuga thought as well as the rest of the team.
The Seirin Team went to the court they were going to play against Seiho. Both teams were practicing as well as Shutoku. Kagami dunked a shot. He turned and saw Midorima. The megane man also looked at him. An imaginative flicker of competition flashed between them. The light blue-haired girl (or the brown-haired boy) can see it.
Hyuga came up behind Kagami and said, "You're looking at the wrong guy, idiot!" He turned the red-haired man's head the other way. He let go of Hyuga's grasp. "No matter how much you stare him down, if we lose the next game, you'll look like an idiot."
"I was just looking at him," Kagami replied. "I'm still focused on our next game." He, Hyuga, and Kuroko looked at Seiho's practice as they made another shot. The red-hared man thought, That team is good, but they're completely different from Shutoku.
"Seiho seems more normal than I expected," said a second-year. "They don't have any big guys..."
"I suppose they are small for a national class team," Riko added. "Their biggest player is their captain, Iwamura-kun."
"Is he about as tall as Mitobe-senpai?" asked another second year. He then suddenly noticed something. "He's very wide!"
"He's so thick! He seems really powerful!"
"Then there's their play-maker, Kasuga-kun," Riko continued. "Two third-years are the core of the team." She seems to worry about the game might go.
As Kagami was going back to practicing, a guy with a shaved head from the Seiho team came to him and asked, "Hey! Are you Kagami-kun?" He turned and saw him. He was the guy he saw with Kuroko in the video. What did Kuroko say about him?
Flashback:
"I know him," Kuroko stated. Kagami looked up at her.
"You do?" he asked.
She nodded. "I forgot his name, but as far as I can tell you, he beat Kise back when the Generation of Miracles existed." The red-haired man was shocked. How can someone like him do that to a Generation of Miracles member?
"Also, he's a jerk and what I thought back then, a sadist, since he liked Kise being yelled at," the light blue-haired girl added. "So watch out, Kagami-kun." Why was he so surprised?
End of Flashback
"Your hair's so red! Scary!" the guy teased.
"What?" Kagami didn't catch that.
The guy yelled to his captain, "Captain! This is the guy, right? Seirin's weak, but they have one strong guy!" Kuroko was annoyed while Riko looked like he wanted to strangle him.
"You little shit, you've done it now," she murmured evilly. Thankfully, the Seiho captain punched him at the back of his head.
"Quit messing around, you idiot," he said to him. He kept his head down. "Sorry. This guy can't read situations, so he just says what he's thinking."
"You don't need to apologize," Hyuga spoke. "We're going to win. If you look down on us like you did last year, you'll end up in tears."
Iwamura looked unfazed. "That won't happen. Besides, we weren't looking down on you. You're just weak, that's all."
Kuroko crossed her arms. "We'll see," she said quietly.
"What? Captain, you're not mincing words either," the shaved headed guy said. Iwamura dragged him to their side of the court. Kuroko was still feeling annoyed. Probably because she'd met too many teams bragging about how they'll win.
Kise was walking to the court in his Kaijou boys uniform with Kasamatsu. He was looking at his phone.
"What're you looking at?" asked Kasamatsu.
"A recording of this morning's Oha Asa," Kise answered. "It's their morning horoscope. When this thing's good, Midorimacchi's good." Even though I want Kurokocchi to win... he thought in secret. Ever since their first kiss, he couldn't stop thinking about her and the two being together as a couple. No matter what, he wishes the best for Kuroko.
"Huh. The guy from Teiko," Kise's senpai noted. "What's his sign?"
"Cancer." In his earphones, the golden-haired man heard, "First place goes to Cancer! Congratulations! You'll have no complaints today!" In his phone, a cute mascot of Aquarius, Kuroko's sign, was in last place. "Last place goes to Aquarius. Keep it quiet today." Kise stopped walking. Oh no... he thought.
"Hey, what's up?" Kasamatsu asked. Kise sighed and said, "Nothing. Let's keep going." Kasamatsu murmured things as the two continued to walk again. Kurokocchi... he thought. I hope the thing about Aquarius isn't true...
The Seirin dressing room was pretty quiet. Only the clock inside made noise. Everyone was all dressed, but didn't speak a word. Riko didn't like this. Everyone's a little tense, she thought. She clapped her hands to get everyone's attention. "You're all a little too uptight," she stated. "I thought of a reward to cheer you up." She then looked flirty. "If you win the next game, I'll give you each a kiss on the cheek." Except for Kuroko, she thought. She giggled.
"Why did she giggle?" Izuki said, dumbfounded.
"You can't be serious," Koganei also said. As Riko was going to lose it, Kuroko got off her wig and brown contacts and looked flirty just like Riko did.
"But, how about a kiss on each cheek from me?" she asked in a quiet, flirty tone. "Even if we lose, you will all get it for your hard work." Every man in the room blushed, including Kagami, whose heart pounded hard.
"HAI!" the team shouted in glee. Kuroko was actually surprised at that. She never knew they would actually accept it. Why would they?
Riko felt sad on the inside, but at least no one was tense anymore. She yelled, "Hey!" The team looked at her. "Remember everyone, give them payback for last year! It's got to be quite a lot with a year's worth of interest!"
Hyuga smiled and announced, "Alright! Before we start, I'll tell you again. I'm sure you'll feel is as soon as the game starts, but first-years, prepare yourselves for the worst. Seiho is strong. After last year's massive defeat, we hated basketball so much we nearly quit." The first-years looked sad. "Don't be so gloomy. We got over it. We're better now. If anything, we're happy! This won't be the same as last year. I'm confident we've become strong enough to be sure of that! Now, we just have to win. Let's go!"
Kuroko smiled. The whole team said, "Yeah!"
...
As the Seirin Team went on court, Kagami saw Kuroko lean on a wall, possibly thinking something. "Something wrong?" he asked.
"Have you ever hated basketball, Kagami-kun?" she asked him.
He made a face. "No, I haven't."
She bit her lip. "I have." Kagami was a little surprised at that. "I know one reason is because I couldn't beat the Generation of Miracles, but I had another reason that's different, but I know the feeling. I know they're cheerful now thanks to my fake offer, but hating something you love is a painful feeling." She sighed. "When I spoke to Midorima-kun, I told him that past and future aren't the same, but they aren't completely separate." She paused to think about how Midorima was acting today, only to sigh again. "I think this game is important for our seniors to get over the past. No matter what, I really want to win this game." She cleared her throat and walked to court. "Come on," she said in her male voice. Kagami was thinking of Kuroko's little speech.
...
Five Seirin players and five Seiho players were on court. The person on the speakers announced, "Let the first A Block semifinals match between Seirin High and Seiho High begin." The ball was thrown into the air,
...
"Jeez, you took so long buying a drink, the game's already started," Kasamatsu stated, punching the back of Kise's head. After what he heard Kuroko say about him, he was thinking how he could tell Kasamatsu to stop hitting him, since she doesn't like that.
They arrived at the game, only to see that Seiho had 12 points while Seirin has 0. There was only six minutes and twenty-two seconds on the clock. This startled them both. "Whoa!" they both exclaimed. Kise looked around the court to see if Kuroko was around. Strangely, she wasn't. Kurokocchi? he thought
Meanwhile, Kagami was dribbling the ball while the shaved headed guy blocked him. He couldn't move from him. Bastard! This guy's defense is at least as good as Kise's... the red-haired man thought. The pressure was intense. Kuroko didn't know if she could use her ghostly techniques or not. After all, she was afraid of what the Seiho players had in store.
"Kagami, you're holding it too long! Pass it!" Izuki said, becoming available. Kagami passed it to Izuki, who almost had it stolen by another player. As he was going to dunk it, Iwamura jumped and smacked it out of his hands. What? I thought I was wide-open! he thought. He came out of nowhere!
This could be a problem... Kuroko thought. She could have done a rebound, but another Seiho player caught the ball.
"How naive," Iwamura said. "Your offense will never crush our defense at that level." However, all of a sudden, the Seiho player got the ball mysteriously stolen from him and it went into Seiho's basket, gaining Seirin a point. Iwamura was startled by this. Izuki, however, smirked.
"You were saying?" he teased. The captain of Seiho clenched his fists.
"We're still going to win anyway," he said.
I only did that because the captain was distracted, Kuroko thought. I could use my techniques, but I've got to be careful when and how to use them. A Seiho player got the ball and was heading to Seirin's basket.
Their defense is tight, Hyuga thought. Kuroko could loosen their defense up, but I wouldn't expect less from a top Tokyo team.
"At least Seirin scored," Kise stated. He wondered how that happened. He didn't see anyone scoring.
"Maybe it's the person behind those mysterious passes..." Kasamatsu said. But I don't see Kurokocchi, the golden-haired man thought. And I'm trying my best. The black-haired man continued, "Kagami's usually the one to put his foot on the gas, but without that, they can't hurt their stride." Seiho players were blocking the Seirin players, making passing for Kagami difficult.
"Tsugawa, it's fine if you're excited, but don't wear yourself out before the second half!" a Seiho player shouted.
"I'm fine!" Tsugawa shouted back. "They're not as good as I thought, so this should be ea-" Kuroko was suddenly available, making Kagami pass the ball to her. She shoot and the ball made the basket. Seirin earned 3 points for that. Tsugawa was shocked by that as well as every other Seiho player.
"Ha!" Kagami laughed, wiping his sweat away. "If you thought this would be easy, think again." He looked mad and looked at the cross-dressed Kuroko.
Son of a bitch! he thought. We won't show you mercy!
Riko sighed in relief. "At least Kuroko used her abilities."
"I notice she only does it when the team's distracted," noted Koganei.
Riko smirked. "Hmph. Shows them not to brag so much and play the game."
That should do it, Kuroko thought. That should show them that they're idiots.
Later, Izuki got the ball and passed it to Kuroko. As she was going to shoot, she got blocked by a Seiho player. She was dribbling the ball, but couldn't move or pass.
Damn it, Riko thought. Now the defense has woken up. Kuroko can't pass.
"This is no ordinary man-to-man defense," Kasamatsu said. "They're creating pressure for Seirin. You can't break way from them easily. No matter how good you are at passing, if no one's free, you're playing at half power." He focused on the brown-haired boy on court. "So that could be the little bastard behind the passes..." Kise knew for sure that wasn't it. Kuroko had done them. He heard her during his team's practice play with Seirin. He still hadn't seen her though. What could that mean?
"Their defense is strong," Kise stated. "but they'll never last until the end of the game playing like that."
"But they do, because..."
...
Time was up. The whistle blew. The Seirin team was sitting on the bench. "Seiho uses old martial arts techniques," Riko said to the team.
"Old martial arts?" Kagami asked. "Like this?" He made a karate yell.
"That's not old martial arts," Riko replied. "To be precise, they incorporate movements from old martial arts. One of the techniques they use is called 'namba running'. Usually, your arms and legs move in opposite directions when you run, but when 'namba running', your arms and legs move together."
"Apparently, by avoiding twisting, you reduce the strain on your body and the energy you spend," Kasamatsu explained to Kise.
"You know a lot about this," Kise said.
"They're an unusual team. They're interviewed by Basketball Monthly too."
Now I see how they do it, Kise thought. Tsugawa's defense is even stronger than last year. However... He looked at the little boy from Seirin. They won't take this sitting down for long. Especially with him. Who is he though?
"In addition to namba running, they use all sorts of martial arts techniques for effortless strength, moving quickly without missing a beat, and other basic movements. That's how Seiho moves," Riko concluded.
"However," Kuroko spoke up. "They shouldn't be distracted from their opinion. Otherwise, it's easy for me to score. They've opened their eyes now, so this will be difficult. I'll try to find a way to break their defense."
"Yeah, it's not like they can fly or disappear," the brown-haired coach went on. They're highschoolers, just like all of you. They'll fall for fakes, and they'll lose their balance if you catch them off guard. They're still playing the same basketball as you are. If you play like you always do, it'll work. This isn't over yet!"
...
The whistle blew and the teams got back on court. Kagami went to Izuki and asked, "Izuki-senpai, could you pass me the ball again? I want to go against Tsugawa again."
Izuki asked, "Do you have a plan?"
"No, but he's only human too, right? I just have to be faster than him." He walked away.
"Wait, what are you saying? Are you sure it'll work?"
"Probably," Kuroko replied. Izuki looked at her. "He does what he has to do."
"Should we leave this to him, then?"
...
The ball was passed to Kagami. Tsugawa was blocking him again. "One-on-one, huh?" he said. "Bring it on!"
Kagami gripped on the basketball very hard. "I don't care about your martial arts or whatever." Imaginative flames were in his eyes. "Basketball is basketball!" He ran past the shaved headed guy, startling him, and ran to Seiho's basket. I never hated basketball, so I never understood what Kuroko said, but I definitely understood the last part! Kagami dunked the basket, gaining the team a point.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" shouted a Seiho player.
Kagami smiled down at the cross-dressed girl. "Don't worry, Kuroko." He smiled. "We WILL win this game. Together." She smiled back at him.
"Our luck keeps going down the drain," Kasuga said. "And that was the first time I ever seen someone get past you. You weren't blocking that little kid, so..."
Tsugawa suddenly grinned and laughed. "The fun and pain are just getting started!"
In another game with Shutoku, as Midorima was shooting to the basket, he thought about Kuroko grabbed his hand out of nowhere. Why did she do that? he thought. If she's trying to get a reaction from me, she should think again. The ball made the shot. The crowd cheered. It shouldn't even matter now. He pushed up his glasses and called out to his captain. His captain turned.
"You're finished?" he asked.
Midorima nodded. "Yes. I have a feel for it." The whistle was blown. Shutoku was blowing the other team away. Midorima was getting benched.
"They're benching him for only five minutes?" Kise asked. "Those guys seem to be taking it easy."
"Of course they are," Kasamatsu said. "Their opponent is just another middle tier school. There should be no surprises. If there were gonna be any, it would be over here." He looked at the Seirin vs. Seiho game. Seirin had 7 points so far.
On the court, the Seiho players were passing to each other like crazy. This passing is ridiculous! Kagami thought. They're so quick to pass the ball again after they got it! He loosened up a bit. I wonder what Kuroko would do... Iwamura had a ball, but was blocked by Izuki. He then passed it to Tsugawa. As he was going to dunk the basket, he realized the ball wasn't in his hands anymore. He was shocked. He heard the buzz sound go off as Kuroko shot into Seiho's basket.
What the-I could've sworn I had the ball in my hands! he thought angrily.
Kuroko wiped her sweat off. That was easier than I thought... she was thinking. So much for old martial arts training.
"Now Seiho knows our pain," Kasamatsu said. "They do use their old martial arts for their offence, but it's not enough to stop that boy. It's like he's an expert." Kise does notice that the boy's abilities were similar to Kuroko's. How could that be?
The basketball went out of bounds. The referee announced, "Out of bounds! White ball!" Tsugawa looked at the score. Seirin-8, Seiho-15. A 7-point difference... he thought. He suddenly bumped into the cross-dressed Kuroko. He did not look happy to see her-him. "You!" he shouted, pointing a finger at him.
"Me?" Kuroko asked in her male voice.
"You will pay for all those shots you've made! Only my team gets to win, not yours!"
Kuroko yawned. "You say that, but we're closing up on you."
Tsugawa gritted his teeth. He then grinned. "Not for long you won't! Just you wait and see! You'll be crying like a little baby and I'll drink your delicious tears!" He ran to his team. Kuroko shook her head. That has to be the lamest thing she ever heard.
"He didn't bother you, right Kuroko?" asked Kagami, who came to her.
"He's still being the jerk I remembered him to be," Kuroko replied. "This game is going to get more easy."
...
When the game resumed, the Seiho players were blocking Seirin once again. "They've been right on them all game," noted one first-year.
"They can barely pass like that," added another. Izuki passed the ball into a random space. Kasuga thought what he did was stupid, until Kuroko got it and passed it to Mitobe behind a Seiho player blocking him. He made a shot. Seiho could not believe what happening.
"Well, it looks like Seiho's defense is falling down quite fast," Kise stated. "They have no chance against the boy."
"I need to learn his name..." Kasamatsu muttered. Kise would like the boy's name as well.
The ball was passed to Kasuga and he was going to shoot, but Kagami smacked the ball out of his hands. The ball bounced off the basket, having Kuroko to pass it to Izuki, who made the shot.
How the hell did that work?! he thought. How are we losing?! Seirin scored 3 for the shot, so it's 19-19. A tie. The whistle was blown.
When the team met up, Iwamura was holding up Tsugawa. "Did he say something stupid again?" he asked the team.
"Hai," Kuroko answered in her male voice.
"Honestly, it brought back memories of last year's trauma," Hyuga added. "Sorry. But it's fine." He paused. "We got over it." The teams stared each other down.
...
"Remember the formation as is," Riko said to Seirin. "You're being led by Kuroko, but everyone has to do what they have to do. Keep your zone together." She looked at Kagami. "Also, Kagami-kun, even though you have none so far, don't get any fouls."
Kagami drank his water and said, "I doubt it'll happen, but I'll try, I guess."
"Remember to play offensively!"
"Yes, m'am!"
...
The second quarter was about to begin. Seiho was blocking the Seirin players as usual, but it looked more tighter.
"Their defense's tighter!" a first-year stated.
"Tokyo's best defense is finally running at full power..." added Koganei. Riko began to worry again.
Tugawa was blocking Kagami good. Seriously, this guy... he thought. He saw Kuroko, so he passed it to her and she shot it to the basket. However...Iwamura caught it. Kuroko was startled. Crap, I shouldn't have done that! she thought. He then dribbled it to the Seirin basket and dunked it. She face-palmed. That was a poor move I made...
What was Kuroko thinking? Kagami thought. We could have just blew right past him too as well...
Ha! That should show him we're not weak! the shaved headed guy thought. Still, where did he come from?
"Well, he shouldn't have done that," Kasamatsu said.
"I have a feeling they're going down..." Kise murmured.
"I'm so sorry, Kagami-kun," Kuroko said in her male voice, feeling bad for the stunt she pulled there.
"It's fine," he said. "Just a little mistake, that's all." She smiled at him.
I can't wait to see him suffer! Him and Kagami! the jerk thought.
The game resumed and Kagami had the ball. Tsugawa was blocking him once again, but something didn't feel right. He isn't pressuring me? He's not trying to stop me? Kagami thought. Screw this! He tried to shoot, but knocked down Tsugawa in progress, or so it looked like to others. A whistle was blown.
"Offensive foul!" the referee yelled. "White 10!" This IS his first foul, but he was getting worried the numbers might go up. He stared at him angrily. Bastard did it on purpose! the red-haired man thought.
"What an idiot," Kise exclaimed. He was also an idiot for interrupting his kiss with Kuroko.
"At least that's his first foul," Kasamatsu stated.
"Excuse me, I need a substitution," Riko said to the people next to the score. Kagami was confused.
"What? It's just one foul," he said.
"Well," Hyuga began. "We were planning on subbing you and Kuroko out anyway."
"Me too?" Kuroko asked in her male voice. She was confused as well.
"We decided before the game started you'd be playing in the first half."
"Why? Why would you do that?" asked Kagami.
"Because, in order to beat Midorima, we need you two. Even if we win this game, we'll need a strategy to beat Midorima in our next game against Shutoku. As we can see, the team's conserving Midorima's strength. We can't win if you two are spent."
"But if we lose the game, we won't even-"
"I know it's a gamble. But if we conserve the two of you, we'll have a slim chance of beating Shutoku and going into the championship league."
"Come on, we'll beat Midorima even if we're tired! Let us-"
"Actually, I don't think it's a bad idea," Kuroko agreed.
"WHAT?!"
She looked up at him. "I trust our seniors. This is their game as well." Kagami sighed.
"We'll beat Seiho, don't worry," Hyuga finished, smiling. Kagami and Kuroko went to the bench while Koganei and another senior got on their uniforms and went onto court.
"I haven't played since forever," the senior said.
"Let's show them what we can do, Tsucchi," Koganei said.
Midorima and Takao were benched on the other side of the court. Takao noticed that Kagami and the cross-dressed Kuroko were benched as well. "Seirin benched their first-years," he stated. "Are they throwing the game?" Midorima looked at that side of the court.
"No," he answered. "They're doing the opposite. They intend to win." Mitobe made the dunk, giving Seirin a point. Their score was 30, very close to Seiho's score 31.
"He can dunk?" Kagami questioned. "Man."
"I'm not surprised he does," Kuroko said.
Iwamura was talking to Hyuga about something. The game got a lot more competitive. Kagami wasn't happy about being benched. He got punched by Riko.
"Why do you look so serious?" she asked. "They're not THAT bad, so don't worry."
"Yes..." Kagami reluctantly replied.
She was right, the seniors were on a roll. One after another, the teams kept scoring.
"Wow, they're going at it harder than I expected," Kise said.
"Duh. They're working a lot better," Kasamatsu added. "They formed with Kagami and that mysterious passing kid this spring, so it's still developing. Hyuga's outside shots and Mitobe's hook shots. The offensive team revolving around those two they're playing right now is another set up Seirin spent a year cheating. They must've been practicing hard to win since last year's defeat. I also noticed that Hyuga is their mental core. He leaves making plays up to the point guard. He most likely has another eye." Kise looked at him weird for saying that. Izuki had an ability, so he used it and scored.
"So, I'm not the only one with unique abilities," Kuroko stated, seeing Izuki's ability.
Riko nodded. "Right. Izuki's got an eagle eye."
Kagami looked at her funny. "An eagle eye?" he questioned.
"He's not particularly athletic, but he can change his point of view instantaneously inside his head," she explained. "Because he sees everything from all angles, he always sees the entire court."
"Seriously?"
Riko smiled. "Hyuga-kun and the others aren't good at everything, but they each have a special skill. They've been polishing them for a whole year."
A first-year stood up and said, "Wow! Our seniors are really amazing!"
"Do Koganei-senpai and Tsuchiga-senpai have special skills too?" asked another first-year.
"Uh...yeah," she answered. "Koganei can shoot from all ranges..." When the cat-face player shot, the ball bounced off the basket. "...but his accuracy's so-so."
"Doesn't that make him normal?" Kagami asked.
"And Tsuchida-kun is good at rebounding," Riko continued, not answering his question. He rebounded about two times, since Koganei missed two times.
...
The scores got higher and higher. Koganei pretty much was clumsy and knocked himself out of the bench. He had a light concussion. Kagami asked if he had to play.
"You can't play," Hyuga replied. "Have you forgotten why we're conserving your energy? We'll win this, just wait."
"I can't just sit still!" the red-haired man yelled. "I want to help-" He suddenly got hit by Kuroko's hand.
"We're going to conserve our energy, Kagami-kun," Kuroko said to him. If she was ACTUALLY a boy, he would hit her. But he can't. After all, he felt something for her.
"But I want to pay back what Tsugawa did!"
"Then I will do it, simple enough."
"But there's no point in you beating him!"
"I think there is, Kagami-kun. After all, he is rather angry at me."
"I agree," Hyuga said. No one was at Kagami's side. He'll have to let her go. After a member change, Kuroko was back on court.
"Oh, NOW you come back?" Tsugawa whined. "Now I will show you what I'm capable of!"
"You already showed that you can't shut up, why should you show more?" Kuroko teased in her male voice. That ticked the shaved headed man right off. "Plus, he has a grudge and I'm here to pay him back for it...by proxy."
