Holidays With the Winchester-Mikaelsons
"I just think we could have done this before they left," Rebekah was insisting as they prepared for the bon fire.
Finn and Kol had gone from the safe house already. Finn was insistent on finding Dahlia before they found them, holding onto the claim that he was willing to side with the siblings he long hated if it meant getting revenge on the witch that took Freya away. Certainly not trusting him entirely and not wanting him to go alone, Kol left with him to keep an eye on things. Madison was skeptical, but he assured her he had the baby's best interests at heart; she believed him.
"We're lucky we're even doing this before we leave," Dean reminded her, though he took her hand gently.
They knew they couldn't stay in New Orleans anymore, not in the prominent spot light that fell on a family of originals and hunters. At this point, they weren't even sure it was safe for them to stay together like one sitting target. Knowing that she had a job and a life to get back to, Madison insisted that Kate take off for Wisconsin again, to resume her job at the hospital. Maddie wanted Adam to go back to school, but the youngest Winchester insisted on staying. She reluctantly agreed, provided that he take time with her first to learn about hunting.
Dean and Rebekah planned to take off hunting again while Maddie, Klaus and Adam took the baby to Bobby's home; Sam was set to follow Dean and Rebekah, though he had plans to break off on his own. While Maddie trusted Kol to keep an eye on Finn, Elijah decided to go along with his brothers as well to ensure that Finn wasn't up to anything that would bring harm to their family. Before they all went their separate ways the following morning, they decided to celebrate a holiday tradition together.
"So," Madison was saying, passing Ava over to Klaus so she could pull her paper from her back pocket. "Do we tell each other the wishes before we burn them or is it bad luck..." She seemed entirely skeptical of the whole process.
"If you tell the wish it won't come true," Rebekah said in exasperation; she had just had this talk with Dean in the house.
"You're going to have to go easy on them Rebekah," Klaus smirked at her, his daughter snuggling against his shoulder as her eyes drifted shut. "Their holiday traditions weren't quite like ours."
"Say what you want about wreaths made out of beer cans," Maddie was smirking. "I think they're a classic."
"Amen," Dean agreed with his sister, then glanced to his brother. "Sammy?"
"I'm gonna head to bed," Sam told them. "Long drive tomorrow."
"I think us too," Madison said as she saw how sleepy Ava was.
"All right," Rebekah sighed as Dean and Klaus moved to put the fire out.
Early the next morning Dean and Klaus were packing everything up, with everyone going their separate ways. Sam had already taken off to find a case, letting Dean and especially Rebekah have a chance to say goodbye to everyone. Adam was helping Madison and Rebekah with the baby. While they carried it out like business as usual, they both wondered when they were going to all be together again.
"Has Rebekah tried talking to you at all about children yet?" Klaus joked, though he was hoping to ease into something else.
"Ah, not yet," Dean half laughed as he closed the trunk to the Impala. "I'm really hoping to keep from having talk anytime soon though so..." He made a zipping motion across his lips.
"My lips are sealed," Klaus assured him; he paused for a moment. "Does she know about your nightmares?" Dean stopped, shaking his head.
"I get that you and Maddie talk about a lot of stuff," Dean started off. It was true, their relationships were entirely different. Klaus didn't share things with anyone until he met Madison; anything that was wrong with her, she typically shared with him. While Rebekah was open with Dean he couldn't help but shield her from things going on with him. He had done that for people he cared about his whole life.
"You don't have to talk to Bekah if you don't want her to know," Klaus stopped him with a shrug. "Talk to Maddie, Sam, Adam," he listed off the Winchester siblings, though Dean was just as likely to keep things from them. Klaus shrugged again. "Me, since I already know about it."
"You want me to share my feelings with you?" Dean asked half sarcastically.
"I don't want you to pretend these things didn't happen to you," Klaus told him. "Believe me, it will take lifetimes to undo the damage from burying these types of feelings." Dean groaned, walking around to the side of the car where Klaus was standing, leaning back against it. They were quiet for a long time.
"They're still upstairs with the baby," Klaus told him quietly; Dean nodded.
"Those guys down there," Dean started off. "They make you look like Santa." Klaus nodded quietly. "And time...works differently. You guys said I was gone for four months? It felt like forty years." Dean swallowed hard. "And the worst part is-" Dean stopped abruptly when he saw that the lights were turning off in the house, the others coming outside.
"Look who's already awake," Madison was smiling as she carried the baby down towards the car. "Just as excited as daddy to get to Bobby's house." Ava giggled as Madison was saying this.
"As long as my girls are happy," Klaus said, taking the baby from her to set her in her car seat. "Ready Adam?"
"As I'll ever be," Adam nodded, getting into the back to sit with the baby. While he had been Ava's caregiver for several months, he was just now taking a head first jump into hunting.
"Be careful, all right?" Madison was saying as Adam got into the car, hugging Rebekah and Dean. "Really careful," she winked at Dean, recalling their conversation from the other night; Dean rolled his eyes at her. "We'll been fine, just gotta catch up with Sammy."
"Let us know when you get to Bobby's," Rebekah said.
"Promise," Madison said as they all prepared to leave.
"Glad y'all finally made it," Bobby commented as he came outside to help with bags, leading the way up to the door.
It was a long drive, with Maddie just being happy that they were at Bobby's home. While she had been on the road her whole life it was the closest thing she had known to a home before New Orleans. Spending a lot of time there as a child, she was glad she had a chance to bring Ava here; it was also where she planned to teach Adam more about hunting. Bobby opened the door and headed inside, with Adam following easily. This left Madison and Klaus stuck at the door.
"C'mon in Maddie," Bobby nodded and she smiled as she entered, knowing he was picking on Klaus.
"I've got the baby," Klaus offered up, holding Ava up in one arm while he held his bag with his free hand.
"Idjit," Bobby nodded for him to come in. "Only because I've yet to meet this one," he said as Klaus passed him the baby. Ava seemed to take to people quickly, making her an easy baby. Madison wondered if she had some kind of sense that these people were good, safe; would she cry if someone dangerous was around her?
"Two minutes," Klaus murmured to Madison on how long it got him to get his first idjit comment. He and Bobby still weren't the craziest about each other, but they were going to make this work for Madison and the baby.
"We knew it wasn't going to take long," Madison said, though she was smiling as she went over to her uncle, taking one of her daughter's tiny hands. "Can you say hi to Grandpa Bobby?" Madison asked, making her daughter smile.
"Thank goodness she looks like her momma," Bobby commented, Ava rubbing her eyes and laying her head against him.
"Someone's finally sleepy," Madison said as Bobby gave Ava back to her mother. "I'm gonna take her upstairs. I can show Adam where the room is."
"Sammy's old crib is in your room," Bobby said, letting Klaus and Maddie have the old guest room where all three Winchester children stayed when they were young. "Adam, I got an upstairs study with an old couch. It ain't much," he shrugged.
"It's all right, I appreciate it," Adam said, just happy to be more involved with his family.
"C'mon kid," Madison nodded for her youngest brother to follow. "You know you don't have to do this," she said as he followed her into her room so she could lay the baby down first; she fell asleep quickly. "You can go back to school," she said softly. "Meet a pretty girl."
"No offense Mads," Adam said, picking that up after spending a few days with Dean. She noticed a lot more similarities between them than either brother with Sam. "But, Sam did that. And, um..." He shrugged. "I would rather be here."
"You sound like Dean," Madison commented, leading him down the hall. She lead the way into the upstairs study that held more of Bobby's over flow of books, an old couch which a sheet and blanket already laying on it with a pillow. "Even he's contemplating settling down."
"With a girl who used to be a vampire," Adam pointed out as he sat on the couch with her. "There's nothing normal about our family Maddie."
"Just...don't knock normal just yet, ok?" Madison made him promise.
"Is that what you want Maddie?" they heard a voice saying. They looked over to where a woman was standing on the other side of the room. Madison recognized her as Carol Lockwood, who Klaus killed in retaliation because he thought Tyler had killed Madison. "To be normal with my killer?" Madison stood up immediately but the apparition had already vanished.
"What the hell was that?" Adam asked curiously.
"Dean?" Rebekah was asking him, breaking the silence that night. They had stopped some where in Virginia, working their way north towards the New England area to start working. Sam was with them, staying in the motel room next door. What they didn't know what he was out currently, meeting up with Ruby.
"Hm?" Dean asked, half asleep.
"I know what my brothers were teasing you about," she continued. "And what your sister meant about being careful."
"Still got that super hearing?" Dean joked, hoping to avoid the subject still.
"I've waited a thousand years for that," Rebekah said in regards to having a family. "We don't have to worry about it right away." She smiled. "I just want to enjoy being human again first."
"Awww," they heard a voice saying. They both bolted up right in bed to see a young woman standing there. "That's so sweet. Dean, you're so lucky," she said sarcastically.
"Meg?!" Dean snapped and just like Carol she disappeared.
"You know her?" Rebekah asked in confusion. Their conversation was broken when her phone started ringing. "Elijah, I can't right now, we-"
"Has it happened to you too?" Elijah asked. After spotting Carol, Madison called Klaus upstairs immediately, explaining what happened with Carol to him and Bobby. Klaus called his older brother, who had a similar encounter in New Orleans with Kol and Finn. Their apparition was a set of sisters murdered by Kol one of the times he was awakened while the family was in New Orleans. "The apparitions?"
"What's going on?" Rebekah asked. While they were no longer together as a group, they didn't realize that they were about to be working this case together, from miles apart.
"Come on," Dean insisted, bringing Rebekah with him to wake Sam. As they left their room though Sam was just pulling back in. "Where were you?"
"Out for a late bite," Sam lied easily. "What's wrong?"
"Meg just showed up here," Dean snapped while Rebekah stayed on the phone with her brothers.
"Meg?" Sam asked in confusion. "Possessed Meg?" Dean nodded.
"I mean, what the hell?" Dean continued. "She didn't die here, we don't have any of her stuff, there's nothing that would tie her to haunt us here."
"Madison called the others," Rebekah said after hanging up with her brothers. "Bobby has a theory, rising of the witnesses. People who died horrible deaths rising all at once, attacking the people they feel are responsible."
"But now? Why?" Dean asked and Sam looked at her curiously.
"It's one of those seals your angel friend warned us about," Rebekah pointed out, making Dean groan. "Bobby's working on a way to send them all back, but until then..." She stopped when Sam's phone started ringing.
"Cami," Sam said right away, his voice full of concern. "What's going on?"
"Where are you?" Cami asked quickly.
"Virginia, but I can get back there," Sam told her. He knew he was on a slippery slope with what he was doing, that what he did with Ruby was messing with his head and pushing him further away from his family. What he wasn't going to do though was let something happen to Cami. "What's wrong?"
"I was in the church," she said quietly as she walked back towards her place. "I saw..." She couldn't believe what happened. "I saw my brother there, Sam. Sean. He's back and he's angry no one knew he was hexed and-"
"I'm gonna send you Elijah's number," Sam said now. "Find him and stay with them until I can get there, all right?"
