(The Next Day)

(At PPTH)

(Hailey's P.O.V.)

I keep my distance as I watch my father and step mother leave the front doors of the hospital.

I had said good bye to Amanda earlier but didn't say a word to my father.

As I watched them leave, I would have thought I would have been happy to see him go. However, I was having mixed feelings about it.

Once they were out of sight, I take a deep breath and walked over to the elevators, pressing the button to head up.

I walked inside the elevator when the doors opened and waited for them to close as I pressed the right floor number.

Before the doors completely closed though, a hand stopped them and the doors reopened, revealing Cameron.

"Hey, Dr. Jacobs." Cameron said as she entered.

"Hi, Cameron." I said. "How are you?"

"Good. Yourself?" Cameron asked.

"Good." I said, giving her a small smile as the elevator doors closed.

It was silent as the elevator began to pull itself up.

"So," Cameron began. "I heard you and House made up."

"Yeah." I said. "I'm sure he told you."

"He did." She said. She was silent for a moment before asking: "What about you and Wilson?"

"What about me and Wilson?" I asked, looking at her.

"Are you two ok?" Cameron asked, genuinely seeming concerned.

"Don't worry about me and Dr. Wilson." I said.

"Is that a yes?" She asked.

"It's a 'mind your business'." I said.

The elevator stopped and opened it's doors.

And when it did, I instantly saw Greg and Wilson standing by the elevator, clearly waiting for it.

"Well, hello there." Greg said with a smug smile.

"Hi." I said, looking from him to Wilson. "Hi."

"Hi." Wilson said, smiling at me. "Um, after you?"

I laughed a little and gave him a nod before exiting the elevator.

"Hailey," I heard Wilson say.

I turned to face him.

"See you in a couple minutes?" Wilson asked.

"Sure." I said. "See you in a couple minutes."

I turned back around and continued walking, wondering what Wilson wanted to talk about.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

(Wilson's P.O.V.)

I enter House's Office to see him seated at his desk and playing with a yo-yo.

I look around as I walk over to him.

"Where's Cuddy?" I asked, confused.

"Probably somewhere making someone's life miserable." House said. "Why?"

"She told me to meet her here." I said.

House stops playing with the yo-yo and looks at me questionably.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

"Positive." I said. "I'm assuming you got the email, too?"

"What email?" House asked.

"The email to meet her at your office in five minutes." I said.

"I didn't get an email." He said.

"Did you even check your email?" I asked.

"Do you know why she's called for this impromptu meeting?" House asked, ignoring my question.

"No." I said. "Like I said, she said to meet here in five minutes."

House looked at his watch, grabbed his cane, and stood up.

"Where are you going?" I asked as he began to walk to his door.

"Leaving." He said. "That way, I won't be-"

Cuddy suddenly appeared and enter his office.

"So close." House said, dropping his yo-yo on his table. "Cuddy, what brings you here?"

"You seem surprised to see me." Cuddy said. "Didn't you get my email?"

"What email?" House asked.

"The email that said to meet me here in five minutes." Cuddy said.

"Oh, that email." House said. "I didn't get that."

"You didn't even check your email, did you?" Cuddy asked.

"No, he didn't." I said, walking over to them.

"Thanks for the cover, Wilson." House said, giving me a look.

I smiled a little at him.

"Anyway," Cuddy began. "I asked for you two here because I need one of you to go to New York to represent the hospital for a week."

"Why one of us?" I asked.

"Because my boss wants either the Head of Diagnostics or the Head of Oncology to go." Cuddy said. House opens his mouth to speak but before he could she adds: "And yes, I do mean only one of you."

"What's it for?" I asked.

"It's a whole bunch of representatives from each hospital from across the country getting together to see what each hospital can learn form the others." Cuddy said.

"Are you just saying that as an excuse so we don't ruin something that might be happening while one of us is gone?" House asked, looking at her suspiciously.

"If that was the case, I would have just said you had to go and not give you an option." Cuddy said, smiling sarcastically at him.

House narrows his eyes at her.

"Now, who's going to go?" Cuddy asked, looking from House to me and back again.

I sighed.

"I'll-" I began.

"I'll go." House said.

I looked at House confused.

"Really?" Cuddy asked. "You're going to go?"

"You clearly don't want me to go in the first place which makes me want to go." House said. "And you know I like defying -" He pauses. "Wait..."

"I'll go tell the board to expect you." Cuddy said, smiling victoriously.

She turned around and left House's office, House watching her go.

"She played you pretty good." I said, impressed.

"I still say she's up to something." House said. "Come. We'll talk about it over lunch along with that other thing."

"What other thing?" I asked as I followed him out of his office.

"You and my cousin." House said.

I rolled my eyes.

"House, give it a rest, alright?" I said. "You don't need to worry about me and Hailey."

"Hailey's my cousin." He said. "I'll never give it a rest." We reach the elevator and he presses the button with his cane. "Especially not until I'm satisfied. And there's also that mystery coffee woman that you still refuse to tell me about."

"Ugh," I groaned.

The elevator doors opened and standing on the other side was Hailey and Cameron.

"Well, hello there." House said with a smug smile.

"Hi." Hailey said, looking from him to me. "Hi."

"Hi." I said, unable to stop the smile that came to my face. "Um, after you?"

Hailey laughed a little and gave me a nod before exiting the elevator.

I hesitate before saying:

"Hailey,"

She turned to face me.

"See you in a couple minutes?" I asked.

"Sure." Hailey said. "See you in a couple minutes."

She continued to walk away as I continued to smile.

"And here I thought you two didn't make up." I heard House say.

I looked at him and cleared my throat.

"Well, we did." I said, noticing Cameron once again who was looking at me with the same smile she's been giving me recently.

"What are you smiling at?" House asked her.

"Nothing." Cameron said. "Not a thing."

She walks by us and House studies her as she goes.

"So lunch, right?" I said.

I walked into the elevator and looked at him, waiting.

House was now studying me and continued to do so as he got in the elevator and pressed the floor number we needed.
