This is basically the same interpretation of the character that I have: a deeply anxious and insecure kid who hides behind confidence to compensate for feelings of inadequacy. I've heard that a sequel to the film is up in the air. If it gets green-lit, I hope the filmmakers decide to go into the characters' backgrounds. Daniel strikes me as having a very interesting story. :)
